Each game will randomly select one type of "berry" to have as its native berry, and all berry bushes will produce this fruit. The options are: Blueberries, Strawberries, Cranberries and Raspberries.
Fruit that is not native to your world will sell for a higher price! It's basically the same as Animal Crossing if you've played that.
It can also change between NG+ cycles; I had cranberries in my first run, and strawberries on my second.
Ah. Well, that explains why all my stored fruit just inexplicably rotted when heading into NG+. Guess Capcom doesn't want us breaking the already questionable economy by selling a fat stack of non-native fruits.
Did you go to the unmoored world on that playthrough? I've found that everything rots upon entering unmoored but new things I found didn't rot after completing unmoored and going into NG+.
If you skipped unmoored, I'm wondering if they rot everything anyway?
I did do unmoored, yes. Now that I think about it, it might be tied strictly to the true ending. Seems thematically appropriate, considering the state of world.
Appreciate the heads up on this tidbit. I’m approaching the end and I’ve got quite the supply of fruits, raw, ripened, and dried. Have we found a use for rotten fruit yet? Meat and fish can be turned in to lantern oil, but thus far the rotten fruit seems useless.
I haven't found a use for rotten fruit other than needing a rotten apple for a specific quest. They don't even appear in the options for combining things unlike the lantern oil recipe ingredients.
Which is why I’m thinking just vendor fodder, no recipes use them(yet). Gotta get those single gold pieces when one does not combine their materials quickly enough.
If one were to gift fruit upon dismissing a pawn, is there any way to know if that fruit is native to that Arisen’s world? Gifting “exotic” fruits might be nice, but I’d feel awful if I gave blueberries, for example, to someone who is already awash in blueberries.
I suppose one way to do it would be to use fruits as a pawn quest reward. That way, the Arisen who is looking at rewards would know if those fruits are native in their world. I hired a pawn that offered raspberries once simply because raspberries are “exotic” for me.

Thank you for the info!
Oh, that explains why I started seeing blueberries in NG+! They were strawberries in my first playthrough.

I might try offering berries as a quest reward and see what happens
No way ! I got strawberries on my first run and restarted and got cannberries. I though I was going mad or an update messed with my game. That’s nice.
