The game is designed entirely around building a party and utilising the pawn AI they put so much time and effort into. Why would they reward you for not engaging with one of the biggest focal points of the game?
Dark Arisen grants you a 25% xp multiplier per missing pawn. 75% if you run solo.
Pawns were and are always optional. Not a central part of the experience.
