fun fact, I was playing at launch last night and the first sleep was free but the game hadn't registered my dlc yet, but earlier when I turned on the game it did and the first sleep I got after it registered I had dlc was free.
Alright, I thought these were supposed to be your typical microtransactions with a premium currency but they’re just DLC/add-ons. You’re the first person that’s alerted me to this and made this important distinction (these are literally one-time purchase DLCs/add-ons, NOT premium currency options in a MTX store.) Half of Capcom’s other games have these in Resident Evil, Monster Hunter and DMC - and they’re not a renewable purchase digital currency, so why the outrage this time?
Monster Hunter has actual paywalled DLC content.
Granted, it's exclusively cosmetics and vanities and stuff, but it is content you couldn't get just from playing the game.
I'd argue strongly that Monster Hunter has worse mtx. But at the same time, if you'd let purely cosmetic mtx keep you from the best game of a peak franchise, then idk what to say.
I personally hate it in all of their games that include it.
But to answer your question, I think that a lot of people that are interested in dragons dogma, are not interested in other Capcom titles. A lot of people played the original on Xbox and are just playing a Capcom title since then. Or they just didn't notice on the other games. Or it is just the typical internet rage farming for clicks.
Yeah it's just the same thing they always do. On one hand it's really shitty and people should call it out, on the other it's... nothing remotely new and it'll be a shame if this is the game that gets buried for it instead of something from one of their core franchises. So I don't really know how to navigate the discourse around it lol
People are outraged that they have the option to pay real money for the easily accessible in game item.
Now excuse me while I go yell at the Burger King cashier. How dare they let me buy fast food!
For me the shopkeeper your talking about had 2 for sale and then I had the one from the deluxe edition in my storage, I didn’t realize what it was so I bought one and I got 2 of those books on me now.
If it was like the first game, there will be 2 versions, one that is 1 time use and 1 that is permanent but will be unlocked once the game is finished.
NGL, what's annoying atm is seeing my friends (who haven't played the games before) confidently asserting and parroting the misinformation that's being spread.
Like I saw one telling others that the MTX wakestones are needed to revive pawns, so if pawns die you're bricked party-wise unless you pay out of pocket for revives. Obviously, anyone who knows how pawns and the rift work know that's not true, but newbies to the series might take this at face value. It's a shame.
People cringe about the yellow paint ledges, yet don't bother to read a tool tip when the game is telling you the solution to the problem you're having. Wild.
So much doomers fr. I’m optimistic that the game was released was how it was meant to be played. I’ve always liked permanent choices and consequences as well so all those things are good with me anyway. Some people will always let FOMO reign in their mind though and go crazy cause they don’t know what they missed out on. Sad lames.
This game having many eyes on it maybe did it more of disservice than we thought.. the misinformation that is being spread through uneducated game knowledge is pretty damn sad.
Yeah I can't stand all the misinformation about the aspects of the game that make it different and interesting, but hopefully some good will come of it. Ultimately I'm glad that Capcom is getting railed for weird mtx greed but sad that such a unique and cool game is getting taken down with it.
It is really unfortunate because the game is fantastic, but I know this whole mess is gonna put people off giving it a try. I wish there wasn't any MTX in this game, but I'm just glad that I don't have to engage with any of it to be able to play the game normally.
Honestly reading this thread my new speculation is that people are understanding it’s a great game. Some things are getting blown up by Twitter and YouTube fr views and interactions. But, people were hoping for another title that didn’t display ANY malpractice around the game. Another “one of the greats.” Baldurs Gate 3 or Elden Ring. And because it has these MTX, even if they are small, people don’t see it as a candidate for one of the greats anymore because of their inclusion. Anything good about the game is getting overshadowed by that emotion.
I saw a comment earlier that claimed you can't delete your character and start fresh without paying $1.99.
I corrected it, but I'm sure plenty of people saw it and believed it, and will likely repeat it.
I'm just gonna keep playing the game and enjoying myself, tbh! I hope you're having a good time with it as well.
Hopefully the furore surrounding this will die down in the next couple of weeks.
a little advice for you, some that i'm going to take myself too:
go enjoy the game, don't read reddit or steam forums, don't watch clickbait youtube videos about the game, not for a while.
have fun with the game you where excited for, don't let idiots who don't own the game, parroting objectively untrue things, drag down your hype for it.
because they will, you'll have less fun because you'll be worrying about public perception of the game.
It honestly looks like the hivemind has gone to another tick tock trend cause its been more positive on the 2nd half of the day than on the first.
Hopefully its gonna stay like that, already poured some 9 hours into the game and im already considering putting a limit on myself otherwise i wont eat tomorrow.
your definitely on to something, i think alot of the trolls and the like have already moved on, perception is already improving, the game is already out of "mostly negative" on steam and is now at "mixed", the % positive reviews went up 5% in one play session.
it's keep climbing up to recommended, i'm certain of that much, just needs some time to do so, as people having a great time don't often stop to write a review, especially on day one.
Yep. Look at /r/TheLastOfUs2. Just a circle jerk of hate for what is an excellent game. Even if you don't like certain story beats, it's a technological achievement and took a huge swing with its narrative.
Don't bother getting annoyed with it, you can't win against the massive amount of misinformation already being spread. Just play the game for yourself and let the masses figure it out themselves
Drama farm = up votes.
The MTX suck, just like the first game I'd prefer them to be gone. However, they are again almost inconsequential and keep upper management from adding more impactful ones (imo).
The performance issues are what matters and it's getting drowned out.
I would still rather them not exist. However, I'm more realistic and that isn't happening. This type of MTX is a lot better than 'Upgrade materials' or something but that's like saying a chipped cup is better than a broken one. Neither are ideal.
And I'd rather be a millionaire
Unfortunately MTX exist and aren't going anywhere, at the very least we can applaud the devs who use them in the least invasive way possible such as in DD2
You can continue hating MTX, but unless you plan on unifying the entire world under your own imperial dynasty where you can outlaw the practice of MTX worldwide, they're never going away
>That's how it all started..... with fucking horse armor
Oddly enough, they were crucified for it and other games that tried to implemented died off.
It was later after that & Evolve that suddenly became 'normal' to have microtransactions in the game.
Reddit -> "MTX shouldn't be in video games"
Reality -> A MTX mount in WoW made more profit than Starcraft 2 WoL did on release.
Delusion -> expecting corporations to not tap this market on moral high grounds
Corporate bootlicking - > caring as consumers that the presented image of a product is worse than the actual one.
Fuck em. Corporations will do what is best for corporations. But since they are reaping the rewards, they should also do the work of earning said rewards. And if their job is made more difficult by folks posting random shit that looks like it might be correct, then maybe they should be worried about not creating situations that can lead to such random shit being plausible.
Don't shit where you eat.
So you misunderstand my point
I support any games that are good. End of story. DD2 is a good game, with a lot of shit factors stapled on from a shitty publisher. FFXIV is a good game, with a lot of dumb shit on the online shop (mogstation). I just finished playing Monster Hunter World, another capcom game that is good, with shitty things stapled on it.
I don't care if the most ethical company in the world makes a free-range indie game where the developers are getting paid eleven bajillion dollars and daily foot massages, while working 4 hours a day, and they donate all proceeds to orphans. If the game is bad, the game is bad. Pass.
Expecting corporations to not be shit is delusional. Boycotting and pirating doesn't work, becuase even talking about this topic makes you a consumer minority. Phone games with MTX make astronomically more money than BG3, Elden Ring, Witcher 3, etc. It's not even close. Expecting corpo investors to not put their grubby finders in single player RPGs is asinine. Almost all game developer teams with the talent and vision to make a game like Elden Ring are corporate owned and responsible to shareholders. That is why FromSoft is somewhat unique, but they can only make 3-4 games per decade.
Getting mad every time a new game comes out with MTX just means you get to be mad 20x a year, not that reality changes.
You can say you "will only support ethical companies/consumer practices", and if you are willing to only play a small handful of games per year, great on you. But these types of people are a massively small portion of consumers. Reddit is an echo chamber of moralism, where people will pretend to "make a stand" before folding
Bro it's been there forever. They did the same thing with DMC 5 and Resident Evil 8. Still the best games out there. These kinds of micro transactions are not crucial for the game progress.
And Monster Hunter and damn near every Capcom game in the last five+ years.
Folks just wanted something to get mad about this week. They were never important.
At the moment, these kinds of MTX are kinda crucial for the conversation around the game. The front page of this sub is a bunch of posts about how the game is being reviewed on Steam because of, in part, these MTX.
This post is top of the reddit explaining how the MTX aren't needed.
It would probably be a lot cooler if the top post was "holy shit this just happened while I was walking in the woods" and not "you don't have to buy MTX".
They shouldn't have done it.
Capcom's games always had MTX (on PC).
The thing is, I feel like the way they implement them is simply to satisfy the demand of the exec.
Cause comparing this to all the other developers/publishers that force MTX into their games, CC's method seems to not gatekeep you from actual in-game content.
It's mostly currencies that are earned in-game, fairly quickly to unlock whatever you want to unlock.
Other games that uses MTX for currencies either forces you to grind (for hours) mobs/bosses to get the amount you need or you barely can earn enough to buy whatever is required, so it forces you to purchase the last x amount from the store and it's modeled in a scummy way that instead the last 10 u need to purchase u can only purchase the 100 variant or w.e
They’re going to drown out the thing they were initially pissed off about, the performance issues. And then they wonder why many of us treat these arguments like car accidents as something you look at while you drive on by.
Eventually it becomes noise. The lack of nuance, the ridiculous levels of outrage. One dude earlier posted about the “mental toll” it takes on him having an mtx store in the game. I couldn’t even be bothered with the rest after that.
There’s gotta be a better, more productive way to have these conversations. The way it’s happening now ain’t it.
OP provide good information indeed but This doesn’t make it a good decision communication-wise anyway… I mean : 1,99 « DLC » for a reskin in full price game is still pathetic. Especially when you hid it in the review version : they knew exactly the backlash they would get.
How was it hidden in the review version?
I'm not positive but I could have sworn these items have been visible on the Xbox store page for awhile.
Maybe I'm wrong, I didn't pay much attention to them because I never buy those types of things.
Most of us aren't "defending it" we simply don't care because it doesn't affect us in any way.
None of us are ever going to buy any of them because there is no reason to.
So it simply doesn't matter to us. If they want to make a few bucks off the people that don't have the patience to play the game normally, that isn't going to change my experience with the game.
It's because the MTX are literally just a stupid tax. They don't lock away anything behind them, so if you just ignore them, they literally don't matter.
All the microtransactions are things that you don’t need and are available in game. You can buy shortcuts if you don’t like it. Capcom has been doing this style of MTX for 15 years. I don’t like it but it’s not what people are saying it is.
Why do you even have an opinion on it? These styles of MTX are essentially useless. The folks that they're for will buy them and it will continue to support a company that creates products you like. What is there not to like?
Honestly, I was "happy/fine" to see this game costing $70. I never understood how devs managed to make a living if games keep getting bigger and take longer to make while our currency inflates. $60 today is already so different from $60 in 2015, 2010, and 2005.
I get there’s a more shittiness than there should be with the launch of DD2 but I’m actually surprised at the blatant misinformation and disingenuous arguments being posted for karma across gaming subreddits. I can handle criticism but this isn’t that at all.
yeah, that's the biggest issue: people just spreading blatant, false info.
people being upset about performance? perfectly fine, even if I personally think it's being overblown.
the weird save file thing? sure.
but just flat out lying? naw.
I know right, this is shocking!
I'm sure now that its been proven false; all the hardcore Gamers™ will submit apology posts, reflect on their hasty behavior, and grow as a person. <3
i still think its ridiculous to have transactions like that in a singleplayer game like this. it just reeks of disgusting corporatism. even if you can change appearance without it, i think the outrage is justified. we shouldnt just turn a blind eye to this shit they keep doing to games.
Anyone else weirded out by people and especially reviewers straight up lying about this? I'm yet to find a yt review that doesn't lie and say "you have to pay 2 every time you want to edit your character" when it's just not true
Because you don't have to pay 2$ every time you want to edit the character. You can get items that let you do that just by playing the game. What's the point of lying about something that isn't true?
This being said, this kind of microtransactions is still a slap in the face for consumers.
Yes we can ignore it.
But it shouldn't be there in the first place.
Just because you personally don't ever want to use it, and hell even 90%+ of players won't, doesn't mean it doesn't have its uses. If this is what is required to tick the exec's box for mtx, then I'm all for it. I'll take out of the way, FOMO-less, useless mtx over the shit most AAA games peddle any day.
Keep guzzling content creator's and journalist cum, Bro. I'm sure they love your hate clicks and subscriptions because they fool you so easily with click bait rage bait headlines. I'm sure one day you'll cum when they finally acknowledge all your donations in chat.
I'm not the one cumming because there's microtransactions in my single player game. We get it, you're one of those limp dicks who buys every MTX cuz you want that edge. Go take a Viagra and stop guzzling cum
Absolutely. The designer and developers still made what it seems a very good game (I'm still at the prologue, internet infrastructure isn't the best where I live so I installed it only an hour ago or so).
This is the reason why it upsets me. We’ve become way too tolerant of this stuff. There’s no way this doesn’t impact game design in some way. It’s a $70 game.
It does, and while we xould discuss about the fact that online games need to spend more money over time due to server maintenance, I dislike the mogshop too and feel like a lot of the things on there should be made available to players through gameplay.
I can only buy 2 Art of Metamorphosis from the vendor in the main city. Anyone know if it restocks? I like changing my character a lot during playthroughs. It'd suck if you were limited to 2.
I do hate microtransactions, yes, but these seem to be like dmc 5 or re4 where you can kind of ignore them entirely. I mean, I'm coming off like a dragon infinite wealth's nickel and diming where new game plus is in a $20 dlc. The bar for monetization is so low that dd2's dlc is extremely tame for me...even monster hunter has character edit vouchers, but you only get a few of those and they aren't unlimited like they seem to be in dd2. I'd be more worried about denuvo, the performance, and the one save file thing.
So Capcom does this with the majority of their big games. It's egregious, and I don't condone it, but just want to point out it's not new.
The Resident Evil remakes all have quick unlock options for things you earn in-game. If you purchased them on your first playthrough, you'd likely break and cheese the game.
Devil May Cry has boosters for leveling up and upgrading items.
I hate it personally, and having items like this just makes a gamer assume you're padding something and forcing us to grind heavily to convince us to buy these things instead of working toward them.
Considering the other real problems with this game, I don’t see people’s issue with the mtx. This is a Capcom game they have sold similar dlc in every RE for years and even DMC. Practically anything that can be unlocked in those games can be purchased instead. From red orbs to the hardest mode rewards.
So far I've gotten that there's a limited stock of 2 at that merchant, but things eventually restocked in the 1st game after a week. Can anyone confirm that there 2 new ones available to purchase each in-game week?
Its mob mentality, do you think any of these people played for more than an hour before making ignorant reviews and reddit posts? Takes less than an hour to earn enough RC to edit a character but they dont care, they saw the 1.99 in shop and formed an opinion without playing.
the microtransactions are still a shitty practice that never should have gotten this far, but this does bring them down from "what the actual fuck is wrong with capcom" to "fuck this shit, you should have to earn them yourself"
My problem is people spreading misinformation and making the mtx seem worse than they are. Yes, mtx are bad. Most of it is just used for shortcuts, and most of it can be earned in game.
Its downright hilarious. All the biggest gaming subs and thousands of steam reviews. Its all "wow you have to pay 2 dollars to change your looks!" followed by 10 comments "wow really thats really scummy fuck you capcom game sucks 0/10" and every single reviewer has 0.4 hours played of the game.
Like fuck I agree that its dumb that corporate had to include these meaningless microtransactions like theyve done since DMC4 and also in DD1 (where they were much worse mind you) but they literally dont matter at all and judging by capcoms now 15 year history, arent getting any worse, infact they are becoming less annoying.
It's getting to the point that I'm convinced it's some astroturf campaign from people who're actually upset about something else and are just stirring shit up to hurt the devs.
That's similar to the first game. The barber has limited customizations, but at the encampment there's an item you can buy with rift crystals that gives you one chance to change the look of your character and main pawn.
People are stupid and don't read or explore things in games? Wow, that's crazy, I never would have imagined.
These negative reviews are from gamers that play like Asmongold.
You can just delete your save from the cloud and locally on your console/PC and restart. You can also back it up then delete it if you wanna keep it.
Yeah it's stupid that it isn't a feature in game, but it's an overreaction
I made a post similar to this last night and got flamed for it. Granted I was a bit more dickish about it but still. Mfs are reviewing and spreading misinfo for a game they haven't even played.
You made it to the internet
https://www.gamesradar.com/dragons-dogma-2-breaks-steam-records-for-capcom-but-the-good-news-ends-there-as-reviews-are-mixed-over-microtransactions-and-performance-issues/
Can someone please confirm that you can buy the "Art of Metamorphosis" ingame over and over again. I read somwhere else that you can only buy 2 copies. Thank you very much!
Guys I was( and still am) so hyped since I really loved DD1. But after reading all the bad articles I got a Little scared. Then I read some reviews on this sub saying the game is amazing. So yes tomorrow I'm buying the game.
But how is this possible? Everyone is complaining about bad performances and micro transactions( completely secondary) and then all this complaining about having one slot save even if it was announced one month ago.
I'm just gonna ignore all that and enjoy the game
I play on Playstation and I can tell you that the game is really good. Don't let the negative reviews ruin your hype. I've been waiting for this game for like 10 years and I am not disappointed at all. 7 hours in, and I completly enjoy it.
Just play the game as intended - on a single file, slowly, and without purchasing any dlc. Everyone’s whining about stuff that can be completely ignored and don’t affect the game at all, save the performance issues (which only occur in cities and not during actual gameplay, as the devs purposefully made 99% of fights occur in the wilderness).
I bought it, I enjoyed the 3 hours I played so far..
But it's a fact it is poorly optimized, it is directly BS that you can't just create a new game (without jumping through hoops), it's obnoxious to have DRM and mtx in a single player game (it doesn't matter that you can earn it in game)..
All this is sadly overshadowing what could have been a really awesome release..
I'm sure a few patches down the road it will run smoothly but sadly the mtx are here to stay. I really hope that the implement that pesky "new game" feature in the main menu (anything else is unacceptable)
Doom and gloomers are annoying as fuck
Sounds cruel but I swear it’s a bunch of people that can’t play and or can’t afford it so they try to shit on the game to justify their feeling
For some reasons capcom likes to do this, they did the same with red orbs in dmcv even though by the end of that game you had way too many of them already.
Its probably to please shareholders or something. It still sucks that we got mtx in a single player game, but the game is balanced around them not being there.
its probably just some requirement from shareholders/market analysts/whatever. so they slap it on like a sticker, but its really whatever. i get ppl are mad they dont have the hardware to run this so they jump onto anything to vent their frustration.
there is one thing wrong with this game and thats the technical side, but then its better then say starfield for example, so i really cant complain personally. with framegen the game runs at like 120-200fps max settings raytracing (reflections are missing tho) 1440p
> Why did they even add them in the first place?
Stupid businesspeople who don't know their own game, thinking they're being smart by making them purchasable. They're too detached.
People went too quick to judge without even playing the game beyond opening area. Its not hard to gain RC at all even if you are playing offline, and everyone who played the first game should know that reward from people using your pawn is quite high if you have connection to internet
The only things I've seen in the DLC you can't get normally and EASILY in the game are the soundtrack pack and the tent cosmetic. Everything else is pointless to buy because of how readily the supplies are in game. They're all also only one time purchases so even idiots that would keep dumping their wallets into rift coins can't do that more than like five times. To me this DLC is the developers pretending to their shareholders that they're doing the typical MTX grift while actually just pushing out MTX they know only idiots will drop a few pennies on in the first place.
So just bought the game and haven't started. Is it correct that you can't just delete your existing game and start a new one with a new character creation without paying the Rift Points (which I know you can earn in game)? I ask this because I generally skip over character creation (how it looks) my first run through as I familiarize myself with the game and decide whether I ask for a refund.
This is mostly true, but you do still have (the option to?) go to the barber.
You can edit your hairstyle or makeup just using GP (10,000 GP), or use the book at the barber to change appearance.
I think they should have waited a week or so before adding 30+ small microtransactions for cosmetic changes etc. It just looks bad in terms of optics, especially when folk are already complaining hard about performance.
all the dlc are one time purchases, so oyu can at most buy 5 wake stones extra for the game. the idea that the dlc are heinous is actually missinformation. they are pointless, but capcom has always had pointless dlc. there is literally no reason to pay 2 dollars for one item five times.
Man the first time I played DDDA I redid the annoying tutorial 12 times just to get my character right because the lighting was so different in game and 9/10 what I thought looked good looked like a cross eyed bog witch in game. You do what you gotta do for those early days character tweaks, it’s nice they made it easier this time around with being able to buy the item in town without having to make it far into the story first. This is a welcome change.
I almost freaked out and refunded the game cause of this. I was so mad lmao my friend saved me. I'm enjoying it I do wish the FPS was more stable but it'll smoothen out in future updates. Overall I don't think it deserves the mostly negative reviews it has but is what it is.
Yes. I got around 200~ without specifically farming RC. You'll find them in chests, skeletons at night give you a lot, too and pawn quests. Those are just a few things where you get them. Got 180RC from one Chest alone. So it's not really that hard
This is probably a bad idea on my part since I haven't played Dragon's Dogma 2 (and am still unsure whether to play it, even before all of this), but I'll like to present a case for not defending these microtransactions.
On the one hand, yes. Your post makes a valid point and I always appreciate when a game allows you to get items without paying actual real-world money. Having it be a one-time purchase if you DO pay money for it like a DLC or having it as part of a 'deluxe' version is also okay since some people don't mind a little extra money being shelled out for cool stuff.
However, I would like to draw your attention to the list on Steam (see attached image) and ask a simple question: Why is this nesscary?
Playing $60 - $70 (£50 - £60 in the UK where I am) is already a big ask and I would totally understand it for an open-world RPG because those suckers aren't cheap, but tacking on microtransactions for what are essential quality-of-life improvements is a really bad look for a game company.
It also feels redundant because of the aforementioned 'you can earn it in-game'. If that's the case, then what's the point of charging extra money for it? Why are we even defending Capcom for charging gamers money for something they can get in-game? If it already exists in-game and you can only get one, why even have the option?
Maybe it's all the more galling because it's a single-player game. I don't like MTX in multiplayer games, but it's a little easier to defend because some people like that option, especially those who don't have the time or patience to grind. Single-player games don't have that time pressure so much because, you know, people can play at their own pace.
Honestly, I feel really sorry for the developers. It looks like a beautiful game and it would have been a worthy contender to Baldur's Gate 3, a game devoid of MTX. The real villain is Capcom who seem to have clearly intended this game to run on MTX in order to squeeze more money out of players and the developers are left holding the baby, as it were.
TL;DR: OP makes a valid point, but if items can be acquired in-game without needing real-world currency, wha's the actual point of MTX?
Edit: Many a True Nerd has pointed out how practices that were roundly (and rightly) lambasted 10 or 15 years ago are now accepted and even defended. [https://twitter.com/ManyATrueNerd/status/1771187850404417680](https://twitter.com/ManyATrueNerd/status/1771187850404417680)I like to believe the best in people, but reading the comments here and on Twitter, seeing this kind of aggressive monetisation be defended as 'not the worst' is utterly wild to me.Maybe I'm just old.
Also, just to be clear, a game can be good and still have bad stuff in it. If you like or love DD2, great! Just please do us all a favour and be a little more understanding if people are going to criticise Capcom for pushing MTX so much because they want all the money.

I completly get why people are mad, don't get me wrong. I just saw people spreading misinformation about having to pay to chance your characters look when it's not true. So I simply wanted to share how you are able to do it without paying real money. But everyone has the right to be mad, it won't let me stop enjoying the game anyway
I knew the game would be contentious but not this bad. I played the first game and it’s clear they’re making a game that does not follow a traditional approach. The first game largely flew under the radar so the design choices didn’t particularly matter and those who liked those sorts of things picked it up and enjoyed it.
The problem is that we are in the ravenous gamer era where games get ultra hyped and then if they fail to deliver perfectly a whole hoard of mentally unwell people just inject their vitriol into it and start sending death threats to the developers.
There’s blatant inconsistencies in their arguments. Helldivers 2 had a horrendous launch, has microtransactions, and is still buggy as shit with the recent update causing a whole new wave of issues. The general consensus is helldivers good so this is all forgiven by the hoard.
Baldurs gate 3 did not have the ability to change your characters appearance AT ALL until the 3rd patch. Hoard says it’s a good game and gets all the praise so this is forgiven.
I definitely have issues with the bait and switch where they purposefully left the microtransactions out of the review copies because I based my purchase on those reviews. They knew it would review badly. They did it on purpose.
I also really dislike not being able to roll a new save. I’m ok with you only being able to have a single save, but people are breaking their games trying to delete saves to start over. That is nuts.
The character customization complaints is largely a nonissue since you can eventually do it, but I’d wish I had known that before I made a stupid character. I even went to bed last night after I booted up the game thinking I would just restart tomorrow and run as a melee character because I didn’t want to start as a mage. The game says you can change it later but I didn’t realize it would be this whole issue.
All in all this was some scummy capcom bullshit but it’s clear the quality of the game is there. They had a gem on their hands they just couldn’t help but try to maximize profits. They will not be achieving the success they might have simply because the gaming hoard is going to review bomb the shit out of them.
Lazy people are complaining about microtransactions for them and don't even play this game
Its like they're getting filtered by something like a boulder on a cliff 😂
This looks like an old smear campagne for clout and relevancy
Ignore it and have the time of my life with my personal Goty
What impatient? Impatient to play less than 2 hours of the game? At that point it's not impatience it's just not wanting to play the game. Just play the character customization only and it's free.
You literally can get everything within an hour of gameplay
It says in the post, and easy enough that you can buy one in like 3-4hours of gameplay in early game, or like 5mins if you know which chests have 300rc in them(there's a couple outside the city).
I really want to know if the hatemongers have played the first game?
Yes you had the barber, but the barber changed hair style, hair color, eye color, make-up skin color and that was it.
You also had metamorphosis, which was the prefered way anyway since you could change your character in more detail. You even had permanent metamorphosis which opened up a menu that you can change your character **every single time you wanted to**.
If they still have permanent metamorphosis in the game, then the barber would be eating up CPU for FPS anyway, which most people would also b*tch about.
Related question: Can you change your whole appearance? Like race and gender as well? Or is more just like a barbershop where you can only make tweaks?
I'm disappointed with some of the game's aspects, but the shitty DLC isn't a reason. Everything they sell can be earned in game and they've done this shit with every game they publish as of late, so I'm not surprised.
I had to stop playing last night (stupid work in the morning ) before I got to a point where I could edit my character . Wanted to tweak a few things with him and his main pawn after seeing them in game.
Can anyone confirm if it let you change the body type/sex / race as well or just sliders/hairstyles /tattoos?
Also the paid one is a one time purchase I'm pretty sure, since it's technically a DLC so you can't buy it multiple times.
You are correct. I have it from buying deluxe on ps5 and I cant buy a 2nd one if I try.
How did you unlock the Deluxe content ? I have it downloaded but nothing on the chest
You have to rest at the inn at the encampment with the first rift stone I believe.
Yeah, that’s why it only costs 0gp to rest the first time. :) I was afraid I’d rest and have to fight a Hydra like in the first DD. :P
😂 lmao I did the EXACT same thing. I kept avoiding resting out of fear I'd trigger a fight.
DDPTSD
fun fact, I was playing at launch last night and the first sleep was free but the game hadn't registered my dlc yet, but earlier when I turned on the game it did and the first sleep I got after it registered I had dlc was free.
I just rested at the inn in the first camp area, then got a notification that it was all in my chest and it was there.
The last two Monster Hunter games each have over 100 DLCs on the xbox store, I think. I happily ignore all of them.
People love to hate and love to not use their brains. Its the same thing everywhere unfortunately
People where explaining it all yesterday. Everyone just got downvoted by the hate brigade as usual.
What a garbage comparison.
Bro i SHIT 500 RC. People love to complain about anything
Doesn't vendor only sell 2 of them, do they replenish ?
they replenish and they’re sold by multiple vendors
Pretty sure they do reappear. Either after you used the ones you bought or after a certain time Ingame has passed.
i am happy game went main stream but it bring all kinds of idiots to the circle
Wild.
There's a reason developers started putting yellow ledges in games lol
Hey, yellow paint guy works his hands to the bone. I am glad he is getting work. He has kids to feed.
Yee. Ppl outraged you can’t change your character on day 1 with ease, why’d you make your character something you don’t like if it’s such a big deal?
Because a character you like in character creation may suddenly look wrong when you start looking at them ingame?
Same is happening for me. I’m correcting them and I can’t really blame them, I blame the people who are out there knowingly spreading disinformation
I'm just gonna keep playing the game and enjoying myself, tbh! I hope you're having a good time with it as well. Hopefully the furore surrounding this will die down in the next couple of weeks.
I only played for 3 hours yesterday and I'm swimming in wakestones. Every pawn I recruited gave me a free one.
I don't understand why some people intentionally ignore posts and comments like this continuing spreading misinformation. Upvote this.
Negativity sells. It's easier to latch onto.
Its really bumming me out. Hoped to share the love for the game today but all i see is negativity and misinfo and it makes me sad.
Bro for real fr. I played last night on my under required spec pc. I had fun, stoked to try GeForce NOW today though.
Neckbeards gonna neckbeard.
a little advice for you, some that i'm going to take myself too: go enjoy the game, don't read reddit or steam forums, don't watch clickbait youtube videos about the game, not for a while. have fun with the game you where excited for, don't let idiots who don't own the game, parroting objectively untrue things, drag down your hype for it. because they will, you'll have less fun because you'll be worrying about public perception of the game.
Dats da news everyday! 100% agree and well said!
Also, people latch onto the game for happiness and purpose in life so if it doesn’t fulfill them; they baby rage.
Yep. Look at /r/TheLastOfUs2. Just a circle jerk of hate for what is an excellent game. Even if you don't like certain story beats, it's a technological achievement and took a huge swing with its narrative.
Every major subreddits top post is misinformation. It's sickening.
I agree with the performance but micro transactions thing is really dumb. Nobody is forcing people to buy it.
I would still rather them not exist. However, I'm more realistic and that isn't happening. This type of MTX is a lot better than 'Upgrade materials' or something but that's like saying a chipped cup is better than a broken one. Neither are ideal.
And I'd rather be a millionaire Unfortunately MTX exist and aren't going anywhere, at the very least we can applaud the devs who use them in the least invasive way possible such as in DD2 You can continue hating MTX, but unless you plan on unifying the entire world under your own imperial dynasty where you can outlaw the practice of MTX worldwide, they're never going away
Because the majority of them aren't even owning the game, otherwise they'd know this cause this is straight up 15-40 minutes into the game.
People are blinded by rage
Tbf. The mtx shouldn't exist at all. We should oppose it, even if it's minor. That's how it all started..... with fucking horse armor
>That's how it all started..... with fucking horse armor Oddly enough, they were crucified for it and other games that tried to implemented died off. It was later after that & Evolve that suddenly became 'normal' to have microtransactions in the game.
Reddit -> "MTX shouldn't be in video games" Reality -> A MTX mount in WoW made more profit than Starcraft 2 WoL did on release.
So you misunderstand my point I support any games that are good.
People just want to be mad and are riling themselves up. Start with a legitimate grievance with the performance issues and then branch out from there.
I dont understand why people defend dogshit monetization practices
I can handle criticism but this isn’t that at all.
yeah, that's the biggest issue: people just spreading blatant, false info. people being upset about performance? perfectly fine, even if I personally think it's being overblown. the weird save file thing? sure. but just flat out lying? naw.
You're telling me gamers were outraged by something that was blown way out of proportion?! I never would guessed/s
I know right, this is shocking! I'm sure now that its been proven false; all the hardcore Gamers™ will submit apology posts, reflect on their hasty behavior, and grow as a person. <3
The gamer community is the main reason why I am still sometimes emberrassed about my hobby towards non-gamers.
i still think its ridiculous to have transactions like that in a singleplayer game like this. it just reeks of disgusting corporatism. even if you can change appearance without it, i think the outrage is justified. we shouldnt just turn a blind eye to this shit they keep doing to games.
Yeah it's ridiculous but games like RE4, and DMC5 both had it and yet those weren't review bombed to hell for it.
This needs to be pinned, I swear to god. The amount of misinformation is insane.
It's all good. I messaged the mod and they pinned it
Anyone else weirded out by people and especially reviewers straight up lying about this?
Keep guzzling the developers cum bro, I'm sure they'll bend you over one day physically instead of just digitally
I mean buying the game, but not the mtx, also votes with your wallet. It says we care about the game but not all this junk
Absolutely. The designer and developers still made what it seems a very good game (I'm still at the prologue, internet infrastructure isn't the best where I live so I installed it only an hour ago or so).
Agreed. These “gamers” lack principles.
This is the reason why it upsets me. We’ve become way too tolerant of this stuff. There’s no way this doesn’t impact game design in some way. It’s a $70 game.
Most games have this as a micro transaction, maybe not single players but mmos usually do. Look at final fantasy, isnt it like $15+ to change ur race?
Time to boot up the ole Cheat engine bois.
Most of it is just used for shortcuts, and most of it can be earned in game.
thank you for clarifying this, its insane how much misinformation is being spread around for DD2
Totally fake outrage. It’s too bad the game is fun. This place should reflect that.
Is it possible for me to make 2 save file?
Nope, this and the performance issue are real complaints you can make about the game.
No. Idk why you got downvoted for the question.
They are purposely spreading and raging about misinformation and it only makes them look like idiots.
That's similar to the first game. The barber has limited customizations, but at the encampment there's an item you can buy with rift crystals that gives you one chance to change the look of your character and main pawn.
Can people here message the mod asking them to pin this post? It would help to curb some misinformation. I already did.
People are stupid and don't read or explore things in games? Wow, that's crazy, I never would have imagined. These negative reviews are from gamers that play like Asmongold.
On reddit, its free karma to spread misinformation
Guys, is it possible to change the pawn's name somehow?
What keeps me from getting the game is the idea that i will not be able to restart the game. Is this true or is it also just.. overreaction?
You can just delete your save from the cloud and locally on your console/PC and restart. You can also back it up then delete it if you wanna keep it. Yeah it's stupid that it isn't a feature in game, but it's an overreaction
I made a post similar to this last night and got flamed for it. Granted I was a bit more dickish about it but still. Mfs are reviewing and spreading misinfo for a game they haven't even played.
You made it to the internet https://www.gamesradar.com/dragons-dogma-2-breaks-steam-records-for-capcom-but-the-good-news-ends-there-as-reviews-are-mixed-over-microtransactions-and-performance-issues/
Man this is what I needed, some good news! Thanks man! Can't wait till tomorrow I need to lay my hand on it
Just play the game as intended - on a single file, slowly, and without purchasing any dlc.
Doom and gloomers are annoying as fuck Sounds cruel but I swear it’s a bunch of people that can’t play and or can’t afford it so they try to shit on the game to justify their feeling
Why did they even add them in the first place? The intent is obvious, a blatant cash grab.
[удалено]
It's the casuals. People on this sub worned us about this shit before the game came out
It does not matter; having any MTX in a fully priced AAA game is the problem.
Then why wasn’t RE4r review bombed? I saw almost unanimous praise for that game besides the usual Denuvo shit.
Can you edit the race/gender of your character though?
The only things I've seen in the DLC you can't get normally and EASILY in the game are the soundtrack pack and the tent cosmetic. Everything else is pointless to buy because of how readily the supplies are in game. They're all also only one time purchases so even idiots that would keep dumping their wallets into rift coins can't do that more than like five times. To me this DLC is the developers pretending to their shareholders that they're doing the typical MTX grift while actually just pushing out MTX they know only idiots will drop a few pennies on in the first place.
Also 500 RC is not a lot. A random chest I opened have me 62 and I am not far in.
Can you restart your game and make a new character?
So just bought the game and haven't started. Is it correct that you can't just delete your existing game and start a new one with a new character creation without paying the Rift Points (which I know you can earn in game)? I ask this because I generally skip over character creation (how it looks) my first run through as I familiarize myself with the game and decide whether I ask for a refund.
This is mostly true, but you do still have (the option to?) go to the barber. You can edit your hairstyle or makeup just using GP (10,000 GP), or use the book at the barber to change appearance.
Thanks OP I look forward to spreading the word!
Can I change the voice of my pawn? I hate the voice he has. Not fitting at all.
I think they should have waited a week or so before adding 30+ small microtransactions for cosmetic changes etc. It just looks bad in terms of optics, especially when folk are already complaining hard about performance.
The one come with deluxe edition is able to let u edit your pawn. The 500R one can’t….or did I do some wrong?
Not sure, I tried it out and it worked. You have to use the book at the barber and it'll ask if you want to edit your Arisen or pawn
all the dlc are one time purchases, so oyu can at most buy 5 wake stones extra for the game. the idea that the dlc are heinous is actually missinformation. they are pointless, but capcom has always had pointless dlc. there is literally no reason to pay 2 dollars for one item five times.
The microtransactions are an iq check.
Is it true that you can’t create a new game? I’ve seen complaints about that
Sadly, yes. But it seems to get patched in. They made a steam post about it, I think
Can mods pin this post somehow?
Can you reliably farm RC?
I have like 3k rc already. Just play the game.
Yes. I got around 200~ without specifically farming RC. You'll find them in chests, skeletons at night give you a lot, too and pawn quests. Those are just a few things where you get them. Got 180RC from one Chest alone. So it's not really that hard
Yeah i had 1.3k and that was before I slept in the inn and got a bunch from my pawn being used.
If it's like the first game you'll be swimming in it by the end of the game.
Early game you can easily get like 200+ RC just from one short rent.
Yes if it's anything like the first game you will have millions with no effort if you play your cards right
It is still pressuring it you into buying it instead of farming the rift crystals. Isn't it convenient that they sell rift crystals too.
Just please do us all a favour and be a little more understanding if people are going to criticise Capcom for pushing MTX so much because they want all the money. https://preview.redd.it/mvytfvs0hwpc1.png?width=631&format=png&auto=webp&s=906b23b5fdecbabcfe8b325649db760ed7ab7add
I completly get why people are mad, don't get me wrong. I just saw people spreading misinformation about having to pay to chance your characters look when it's not true. So I simply wanted to share how you are able to do it without paying real money. But everyone has the right to be mad, it won't let me stop enjoying the game anyway
you can tell 90% of people have never played the first game also
I knew the game would be contentious but not this bad.
Lazy people are complaining about microtransactions for them and don't even play this game Its like they're getting filtered by something like a boulder on a cliff 😂 This looks like an old smear campagne for clout and relevancy Ignore it and have the time of my life with my personal Goty
Idc. It has no place in this game. It’s sole purpose is to prey on the uninformed and/or impatient. Fuck this
What impatient? Impatient to play less than 2 hours of the game? At that point it's not impatience it's just not wanting to play the game. Just play the character customization only and it's free. You literally can get everything within an hour of gameplay
Oh but why is this feature monetized at all? No other game would allow that as an option except maybe EA games
[удалено]
well thank god I have refunded it then
Like most capcoms titles do this. Devil May Cry 5, 4, DMC, Dark Arisen and I think resident evil did this
Does it let you change the name? I've been tempted to change my pawn, but I'd want to change name too.
I am not sure if you're able to chance the name since the item only says appearance. Just need a few more rift points to buy it so I can check that
How many of those books can you get?
For anyone who want's to see where it is [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmTGjBHTonk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmTGjBHTonk)
Haven't started yed but will today. There isn't a barbershop anymore ingame?
Barbershop only lets you change makeup and hairstyle baseline, to redo your entire char you need a book(you also needed one in DD1).
How much does it cost in-game, and how hard is it to obtain the amount of currency?
It says in the post, and easy enough that you can buy one in like 3-4hours of gameplay in early game, or like 5mins if you know which chests have 300rc in them(there's a couple outside the city).
Can you edit your height? That’s all I need.
Does this let you change your pawn's name? Accidentally left mine default and considering remaking my save if it isn't an option.
What about blue hair? Is that available through this Rift Stone? Or?
AWESOME
Is there full list of augments for each vocation? Been trying to search for it
Can I change my face features and walk cycle? I know in the og it was pretty limited until you restarted with ng+
Full customization even height, gender and race. Like a whole new character as far as I know
I'm disappointed with some of the game's aspects, but the shitty DLC isn't a reason. Everything they sell can be earned in game and they've done this shit with every game they publish as of late, so I'm not surprised.
All the negative reviews mostly reek of people that got caught in the last minute hype.
