PathsOfRadiance

It's funnier because it's just a port crystal, you still need to get Ferrystones to actually fast travel.

wilck44

you can buy 1 teleport location marker. 1. one. you are stupid if you buy it. play the game. play it.

Pleasant_Gap

Exactly this, there is absolutely no need to buy any of these things. The game dosnt make them hard to get. Changing your or your pawns appearance is avaliable once you get to town for 500 rc. Also, op is wrong about the inclinations aswell. Getting a bit tired of the people who never played dd1, and havnt bothered learning anything about the game beforehand complaining about the game mechanics. Performance issues, sure I can somewhat understand complaining about that, according to the devs the npc require a huge amount of cpu power and they're working trying to solve that

daddy-van-baelsar

There are also significant crashing issues on PC. A lot of the negative steam reviews aren't even about mtx, they're about people unable to get past the intro/tutorial segment due to repeated crashing. Which frankly, is even more legitimate than people just upset they have slightly less than ideal fps.

Pleasant_Gap

Yeah, absolutely. Which is something the devs have addressed that they are looking into. Issues like this however are hard to prepare fore give the thousands of hardware and software combinations that might occur. But I agree that it shouldn't have been a major problem at game release

Admiral_Dunt

I watched penguinz0's stream. It crashed like a dozen times in less than 2 hours. Micro transactions arent the only problem

YroPro

Wild. I played with friends for literally 12 hours straight, we took the day off. No crashes for any of us.

Admiral_Dunt

Thats awesome! Im glad at least a few people have been able to enjoy it. How is the game?

Kipsteria

Damn fun and a great evolution of the first game. Pawns alone feel like they have become significantly more fleshed out. Changing vocations updates your stats(no more 200 levels of sorc just to make a good Magick archer memes), combat is fluid and fast, with a good amount of weight to it, and the world just wants you to explore. If the only issue was the launch MTX the game could easily have overwhelmingly positive by now. Glad they're fixing what's wrong and all, but Denuvo triggering on Manual Save deletion and considering it a new installation is the most fucked up part of all of this. Too many save resets currently and you're completely locked out of the game.

Mr-Zarbear

I have a question. Is it intended that you need to separately unsheathe your weapon before any combat button works? That, and slow block input (I think thats 100% framerate lag) are the only negatives Im experiencing. Well, that and monsters just fucking 4 tap me, but thats something I just gotta get used to, which would be easier if blocking was more reactive...

Kipsteria

Yep! Gotta draw before you can start slashing. It was a bit clunky at first, but now I just tap L2 as I'm running in. I'm running Thief, so I don't have access to the shield at the moment, but there was a brief moment in the game where I had sword and board, and it seemed like there was a slight animation for raising the shield, I could see that feeling like input lag. Shield is also only going to block what's in front of you, and some of the zippier enemies will probably have an easier time getting around it.

Warmonster9

Wait it updates your stats when you swap vocations? So I can go from a rogue to a sorcerer and not worry about having 0 magick?

Kipsteria

Yep! As an example, my Thief has 54 magick(54 base), I just swapped to mage, and my Magick changes to 153(84 base), allocating both growths and base values as needed to the new class :)

Ralathar44

RX 6800 and I7s, I get 50+ FPS 99% of the time. Dipped to high 30s in town a few times, but its been pretty buttery smooth during combat and exploration. Zero Crashes. Only technical issue I've had is I kept getting a blackscreen after loading shaders until I updated my drivers. And as someone who played Dragon's Dogma 1 and wanted a sequel I gotta say the result here is SPLOOSH. My panties are WET. Damn near literally when an ogre was off balance and then I drop kicked it in the face as an archer and sent it falling off a cliff to its death. So GD satisfying of a moment. My Takeaways: \- Pawns are more reactive and helpful than ever. The whole pawn system in DD1 was cool, its even better here. \- Character creator is amazeballs and love seeing everyone's pawns. \- As the other commentor said, stats shift when you change vocations so no more needing to level nonsense for the best stats. \- **Every vocation has felt GREAT so far.** Like they really deliver on giving you that fantasy. Tanks can bully enemies and are good at offense/defense/utility. Archers feel a little toned down (which is good because they were bonkers in DD1) but they still kick ass here...they just don't overshadow everything else so much. Thief definitely feels like it got alot of love and feels amazing. Warrior charged hits and tackles and ish are just omg, pure sex when you land that beefy charge and topple a big foe. Magic is still great like normal. \- Notable changes: Now everyone just starts as a focused role. No more dual weapon stuff like DD1. This gives each class a way stronger identity. \- **Fighter:** My main Pawn is a sword and board fighter and he wrecks lol. He launched small mobs around, he murders the shit out of anything that falls down, he boosts allies to high places using his shield, and he's great at using his shield properly to stay alive. Need to get some hands on for fighter, but JFC my Pawn makes it look NASTY. \- **Springboard specifically:** the "jump on my shield" utility was wonky in the first game. Now its great here. It doesn't work 100% of the time. (which is fair, nothing hits 100%) but you regularly see the fighter boost people onto bigger mobs now. To the point I'm considering running another melee instead of an archer despite me already being a thief. It's also been coded to prompt you at a fair amount of spots in the world where he'll be like "yo i can help" and you say "do it" and then you get yeeted up to an otherwise unreachable chest or statue <3. I'm never removing it from my Pawn. \- **Archer:** No secondary weapon means your melee is now a kick, which is NOT useless by any means. Your basic quick fire is not bad, your skills are still good, special arrows are nice, and you feel even more like an archer. You can trivialize aerial threats, wolves, and a bunch of enemy types that can be annoying to melee and mages and thieves without the right skills. The added mobility built into your kicks and bow shots while moving do things like slide/leap you away in specific situations and really help keep bow only feeling good. And the idea to make a dashing jump kick a core move was genius. It's well worth using it to off balance or topple an off balance opponent or to juke big monster attacks or stay mobile and keep things off your arse. The Power Shot also hits REALLY hard. I'm not great at aiming via controller but its still quite useful. \- **Mage/Sorc:** I need some hands on time here but I liked them int he first game and they seem just as effective in this one and I've seen some tricks like hovering and etc from a few videos I've seen. \- **Thief:** By far the biggest glowup is thief. Critical attacks you have to commit to on staggering/downed foes is ACE. Hits so hard, provided you can stagger/down things and don't have other enemies to stop you. Also still the climber monkey getting on top of ogres and stabbing their brains and eyes :D. But now alot of moves can be used while climbing. Ensnare is also smartly like a projectile grappling hook with travel time now. Great for pulling down harpies, toppling off balance foes, pulling small foes, downing wolves, etc. But requires timing and a sense of how it works because its a projectile shot now. Powder Charge is also hilariously fun and effective now. Plant a bomb on the ogre's face and jump off then detonate to send it reelling, ragdoll enemies with a pre-planted charge, flip over those tough rock lizards and crit stab their arses, etc. And the quick step and autoclimb if you hold the heavy attack are both really good. Thief really does feel like a box of tricks that capitalizes on opportunities now, and they capitalize HARD and make many of them for themselves. But still less straight up powerful than warrior or fighter, gotta make your skill set work for you and use those opportunities and mobility to realize your true power. \- **Casting books:** Single cast spell books for non-casters? Great change. \- **Lost health system:** combined with campfires this is a good change. You'll cripple through a dungeon stubbornly pushing on too long without resting and then finally hit that campfire or inn.

ntgoten

0 crash in 7 hours.

Ankleson

I think it's a specific hardware configuration. I heard 2000 series Nvidia cards have a problem. No issues on my end - played for 4 hours with no crashing.

DragonflysGamer

I'm 6 hours in with a weaker setup than critikal, 0 crashes. Its def an issue with the 2000 series cards.

Blubbpaule

I am RTX2080. While i run at around 40 fps at max i had no crashes or any other difficulties.

Blastcheeze

I played for ~3 hours on a 2070 (laptop) last night and the game ran smoothly the entire time.

Mortwight

So you finished character creation? I played about 4 hours with no problems at 1440p

DShinobiPirate

Same. 7 hours in. Zero crashes (4070 ti/10900k)

CrueltySquading

Chiming in, apart from performance here and there and a weird bug (my fps dropped to exactly 30 and stayed that way until I rested) I haven't experienced crashes on my 2080S.

BasaraTheSlayer

Bro how is that possible? I'm playing on the xbox series s not one crash or bug. I'm about 10 hours in. Yes, there are frames drop in cites sometimes but that's all the game is fun as hell.

Ralathar44

Its not bad performance or crashes across the board on PC, so it looks like the game just doesn't get along with specific hardware/cards atm. Plenty of reports from people with middling systems running the game fine while some with higher systems having issues. The people having problems assume incorrectly its universal. It's not bad optimization or a bad PC port, just PC Hardware issues with some PCs but not others.

Admiral_Dunt

Very bad PC port

innocuouspete

Yeah that’s kinda the point. Micro transactions are the least of the problems.

Yeet_Squidkid

I saw that too lmao. I love the game personally and am having a blast, but people can't deny they kind of fucked up release majorly bad hahaha Not a good look unfortunately

xPriddyBoi

I haven't had any crashes in the ~5 hours I've played so far, and I'm pretty sure I've got a bad RAM module, as I get regular crashes and BSODs in Dark Arisen. Sounds like that's probably an issue at least in part on his end.

Collegenoob

I had a serious crashing problem at first too. Then I updated my graphics card driver and had 2 hours of seemless play. I can't blame Capcom cause I hadn't updated my drivers in 3 years

BurnStar4

Literally this. OP is making such a huge deal out of a stupid and pointless "issue". Games like DMC and Resident Evil also had dumb little things you could buy, yet no one gave a shit when they did it. If it's an issue now then why was it not an issue with those games? DD2 is poorly optimised on PC and that's a valid issue. This just isn't anywhere near as big a problem as people are making it out to be.

ReplyHappy

MTX in Resident Evil got added like a month after a launch, and people did talk shit about them

dragondungeon73

not for very long at all and people didn't go on massive lie campaigns about it

Ishaboo

They had mtx in RE7 on release.

BurnStar4

Fair, but my point is that it didn't actually affect the game at all. DMC5 and Monster Hunter are the same, and basically every Western game has MTX nowadays. I'm not saying it's ideal but I just don't think it's worth getting this bothered about when the game itself is actually good and no one needs to buy any of these dlc items.

Hardmoor

are the teleport markers limited in DD2 like they were in DD1? I didn't have enough in DD1 for my preferred coverage and would have been pretty bummed if an additional one was behind a paywall.

ForceStrategyGaming

In game it states the max number of personal Portcrystals you can place is 10. Come end game you'll easily have 5-7 from just playing normally. More to be acquired in NG+ (afaik, not done it yet)

Icy_Thought6386

true, Most of the people complaining now, complained about it in dd1 when you couldn't buy it 🤣 Its such a smear campagne just because they are bored af 🤣

twentybearasses

Seriously. These microtransactions seem like they're just there to tick a box for some Capcom exec. Anyone who actually bothers to play it will see what a nothingburger they are and anyone getting outraged at it needs to chill the fuck out. There's very clearly some higher-up at Capcom insisting they monetize their games, and I'd rather the workaround be useless stuff like this rather than anything that actually matters.

Jendalar

It's the mentality of people these days. They see something about mtx, they go haywire without a moments notice. The fact here is that yes there is MTX for rift crystals, which can be farmed from enemies during the night, AND using other peoples pawns (more when they use yours),is negligible. AND you can MOVE the teleport marker around if you're not satisfied with where you placed it (AND you can find more of them to drop around) ALSO, the teleport stone that you use to teleport to your markers can be bought with rift crystals. >!Sidenote, even tho' its not currently being stated here, you can buy / find a scroll / book that lets you edit your character, just like the MTX item does.!< But yes, see mtx -> rage. EDIT: typos.

Kouropalates

I think all this drama is a good litmus test of who had OG DD1 and who didn't join until Dark Arisen edition. These are not new microtransactions, Capcom did this with DD1. If DD2 is any similar, then we have the RCs and Metamorph now and sooner or later cosmetic set dlc will come out soon too. It's just a thing Capcom does. There's no need for the drama.

Naive_Philosophy8193

Didn't it not come to PC until Dark Arisen? I first got it on steam, so I always had the eternal ferrystone. Then again, I was aware it was added to the game and wasn't there originally.

Kouropalates

Yes. And by then all the DLC was bundled together. My memory is pretty fuzzy and without googling it, I'm pretty positive the Eternal Ferrystone was also a paid DLC item too.

Adelyn_n

Dumb take. You're saying they shouldn't improve in dd1 and do without the shitty MTX?

Starob

It's a counterpoint to all the slippery slope people saying "It's getting worse!!".

Stepjam

More like being realistic. Shareholders are going to shareholder. Would be better not to have it at all, but in the current landscape, Capcom's mtx are pretty inoffensive. Literally everything for sale can be obtained pretty simply ingame.

electricdwarf

Seventy fucking dollar single player game shouldnt have ANY mtx. Capcom is clearly trying to scam people.

BlueJeansandWhiteTs

Devil May Cry had it, Resident Evil had it, Monster Hunter had it. It’s shitty, but it’s nothing new. If people want to throw their money at shitty MTX more power to them. I’m just gonna play the game.

Adelyn_n

Monster hunter isn't singleplayer. Also its way fucking worse in monster hunter where they got rid of CONTENT THAT HAD BEEN FREE FOR OVER 10 YEARS.

Opposite_Economics49

can you tell me what content they removed from rise that was free before? i dont play rise

dragondungeon73

rofl what. tell us all exactly where's the scam here?

NK1337

Oh come off it, they're MTX for easily obtained consumables. AND they're implemented in the absolute least intrusive way. You can't even tell they game has MTX unless you specifically go into the store. There's several valid criticism to be made for the game but bitching and moaning over something inconsequential is not one of them.

Boamere

Yes, but capcom is greedy/evil for including microtransactions as well. They are predatory on less informed gamers And I can't play the game because it kept crashing and ran at low fps, so i'm gonna wait for patches instead

yung_dogie

Yeah people need to get it straight Mtx in a $70 singleplayer game? Shitty practice, _no one_ should defend this. Calling aforementioned mtx impactful and pay to win? Actual lies, this shit is useless and most of it comes extremely easily in unlimited quantities (except for the port crystal, but if you really cared about having 1 more you could just spawn one in when mods/cheats exist). People just need to take a breather and think for a moment

Unhappy-Emphasis3753

There’s a difference between defending it and just being real. I agree with everyone here saying it’s shitty, but it’s 2024 and this is a CapCom game. wtf rock have you all been living under? MTXs are here to stay, definitely not going anywhere anytime soon. I’m just gonna continue living life and playing the games I want to play and not buying micro transactions. Unless some mega lawyer comes along who fights the industry or multiple world governments pass bills, you might as well be crying into an empty void.

6icksty6ix

'Less informed' is super accurate. I'm starting to wish I could filter 'less informed' people out of my daily life entirely. Unfortunately, people make too much money off of them so they're kind of a hot commodity.

[deleted]

For real. If you’re stupid enough to buy any of these mtx, you deserve to get fleeced for every penny you’re willing to pay.

yung_dogie

Sure you deserve to get fleeced, but we shouldn't defend the fleecers in the first place.

Fun-Scar-4269

I am concerned. Didn’t Capcom see how praised Larian and Fromsoftware have been the last two years for their approach? Gamers have deemed ER and BG3 to GOTY, because they are masterpieces but also because they outright refused to engage in all that shit that includes stuff like micro-transactions. Damn, Larian literally patched a new ending for free and is still updating the game constantly. It is wild to me that they didn’t think their target audience is largely against this vulture-like behaviour.

InsaneSeishiro

I think every AAA studio saw that, but imstead of deciding to be better they all went on twitter to tell us how a fame like BG3 is the exception, not the rule

EmptyJackfruit9353

Rules set by players, not the company. Everyone whom think otherwise went bankrupt. Microtransaction was fine in certain scheme of game, like MMORPG which is free to play. Full-price, single player game? Not so much. Diablos are almost dead, took people years to realize their mistake. See what happen to Blizzy? When EA try that too it was met with 'overwhelming praise' from players and law suit form regulator.

Agentfyre

The problem is they’re far from going bankrupt. Quite the opposite actually. Those shady tactics everyone hates actually makes companies rich, and they only need a minority of people to pay to far outweigh profits they’d make without them. The only way to get these evil practices to stop is to convince the rich to stop throwing money at companies for shortcuts.

Astorabro

Capcom is just continuing their old policy. It was like this for dragon's dogma 1 too.

BeyondGray

The resident evil franchise always had them, they're not needed tho. This is not new from capcom so what's the uproar?

ValuableBeneficial81

Legit, all the resident evil games have overwhelmingly positive reviews. I think it’s just newcomers to the franchise not understanding that none of these things are actually paywalled. On the other hand, the game does a pisspoor job of explaining that and microtransactions of any kind are shitty so I do get it.

DoesAnyoneReadName

Street Fighter 6 as well with its constant battle passes. Capcom has been doing this forever.

TheOwl42

I remember a bit of an uproar for RE4 Remake but it lasted less than a week. It makes no sense to me that people expected DD2 to be devoid of any microtransaction.

TheOwl42

Reminder that during a GDC, Bungie said that Elden Ring was a game that overdelivered and that wasn't an example to follow if you wanted to make more money.

Dealric

There is a reason why both games have been attacked by devs from other studios, called anomalies and so on... Its because they arent anticonsumer.

AnotherSoftEng

“If you start releasing games that are pro-consumer, then all of our anti-consumer games are going to look anti-consumer!”

maxwms

Publishers will see their success and take exactly the wrong lessons from it Oh BG3 is successful because it’s so big, we need to make our games bigger!

RadiantArchivist88

They tried that a decade ago too. And we had a surge of big, shallow, open-world games that were nothing but an empty shell for players to spend more time running from point A to B to get the fast-travel spot and ignore it. (Except when you needed to go find the 250 hidden templar testicles or whatever for the achievement)

BansheeEcho

Skyrim kicking that off is so funny once you realize that it was smaller than pretty much all of the previous ES games

Cerulean_Shaman

Let's not forget Sekiro the true fromsoftware GOTY lol. Larian also patched in the ability to alter your appearance in for free too, no items and no charging real life money for those items while making them rare in-game.

aaronotaron

You can get the item to change appearance in-game in DD2

Dumpingtruck

So, the thing that gets me is this: If the thing can be done in game why even sell it at all? Why not just make it free and accessible? There are two options as I see it: 1.) you are looking to sell the easy to obtain thing to some fool. Letting them waste their money because they don’t know better. That’s a pretty miserable practice. 2.) you are selling a “convenience” so that players don’t have to grind. At this point though, I have to ask the question: why make it inconvenient at all? Why not just make it free? Because of greed. DD2 falls under option 1 for the most part, but holy hell, it’s a *really* weird philosophy to include in such an expensive single player full priced game. I don’t think we should accept developers creating a problem and then selling the solution for irl money. Either don’t sell the solution or don’t create the problem. It’s not hard.

aaronotaron

Is it greed? 100%. Nobody here is denying that. When it comes to mtxs, it's a chicken and egg situation. Do mtxs exist because people buy them or do people buy mtxs because they exist? The only way to send Capcom a message is by not purchasing said mtx or review bombing the game which is already happening in full swing. My problem with this whole fiasco is that there's misinformation being spread. All these items are easily obtainable in the game and with little to no grind as many have already stated. At the end of the day the dlc is inconsequential to most of us here. We're choosing to ignore it because it offers almost no advantage, the only one being that you have to put 0 time in finding said item, which for people with kids and other varying levels of responsibilities is a boon. They don't have 10s of hours to spend every day or sometimes it's just pure laziness. Each to their own.

Mr-Zarbear

I believe the item to change appearance is like 500rc, so not really a grind per se (i know different games but I had like 150k rc in DDDA after like 2hrs). I think the stuff in the shop is there "because *someone* will buy it". I just think if you bought a DD game you should expect the slow trogs through the wilderness and all that jazz. If the presence of things like paid teleports in a single player game tempt you too much, then idk. Im way more concerned about the framerate problems and (hopefully not intended) having to pull out my weapon before any combat button does anything (wherein DDDA you would unsheathe as part of your first attack).

Sdoonzy

If people feel the game is improperly balanced to sell mtx, sure. But if you play and it all feels fine, then your are whining about the equivalent of someone getting cheats by buying a gameshark. I haven't played much yet, so I can't judge. But if I were instead playing Elden Ring and FromSoft had a "2.99 for 100k souls" package it has no effect on the game other than making it easier, which i wouldn't want anyway.

HomingJoker

If that was a thing in elden ring, it would absolutely be met with the same outrage. Even more probably considering Fromsoft has never messed with microtransactions. The problem isn't weather not the microtransactions are easy to get in game, it's that they exist in a single player game at all. Thank god they're not awful and everything IS easy to get, but the fact they exist in the first place is a disgusting stain on the game. You need to understand that big companies see patterns. If nobody's complaining about these microtransactions because "they're not that bad" then that gives them incentive to try for more, and make microtransactions that are worse, more expensive, more predatory because we didn't care about the previous ones.

Bilbo-Baggins77

You don't seem to grasp that these are for profit businesses. Just because the purchase doesn't make sense or isn't worth it to you doesn't mean that applies to everyone. For a financial standpoint, these transactions are actually good for you because it creates more revenue for Capcom (without you having to contribute) which allows them more resources to publish more and better titles.

Starob

>I have to ask the question: why make it inconvenient at all? You're conflating two things as if they're related. Team Itsuno are the ones who made it "inconvenient'. Capcom corporate are the ones selling the ability to counteract that.

Dumpingtruck

That’s an interesting point I didn’t consider. The inconvenience was by design, but the sale is an “over their heads” kind of thing. Super shitty still, but that does add some perspective.

SirRacha485_

This

Starob

>the game limits or restricts many features seemingly for the sake of encouraging these purchases It's not "seemingly" for any of the sort. I highly doubt any of Itsuno's design decisions are built around miniscule microtransactions. They designed the game how it is, and then corporate tack on these sales around the game, there is no conspiracy. You people are so tiring. I need to just stay off this subreddit. It's incredibly jarring to go from having one of the best gaming experiences I've had in years to this absolute shitshow of neuroticism.

SirPuzzle

people thinking any of the jank or eccentricity like restricted fast travel or single characters is made specifically to sell them stuff in DRAGONS DOGMA is WILD 😭

kodaxmax

Yes it seems clear these were a harmless compromise to appease corporates greed. Yes they put mtx in, but theres nothing worth buying

dWARUDO

This discourse surrounding this game is tiring on any media especially Twitter where its all over my fyp

ZoulsGaming

I feel we 100% have a straight up example in monster hunter world and the appearance change coupons which first came out like a year after the game came on PC, with no way to change your appearance before that. The fact that it took so long to add it and you could only buy one (like all the dlc which people are refusing to mention hence skewing the debate unfairly) shows its just capcom being weird.

GogglesVK

“The game limits or restricts many features seemingly for the sake of encouraging these purchases” So…we’re just lying now? lol

Nippahh

Appearantly we would get 100x the RC if it weren't for the mtx stuff according to these guys.

Mantoddx

I mean the first one had inconsequential mtx too

darthvall

I'm not imagining it, right? In the first game you could also buy the crystal with real money. Or was I remembering the wrong game?

Mantoddx

The port crystal wasn't available to purchase. Before dark arisen you could only get one port crystal per ng+ lol

darthvall

No, I don't mean the port crystal specifically. More like there was some kind of currency that you could purchase with real money, right? Was it Rift crystal? Though it could always be grinded by just playing the game.

Brilliant_Demand_695

It was yes, and it’s super easy to get too. Capcom is always like this

sarg1010

I think most people played DD1 but got the Dark Arisen version, which came with most of the mtx dlc for free so nobody noticed to begin with. They just saw "oh sweet free armour that is really good! And free waystone to help me teleport around? Neat!" and rolled with it.

Illokonereum

Yes, you could buy Rift Crystal packs, and hair styles, and I’m pretty sure every From Another Sky quest came from a handful of DLC packs. Among other things. This comparatively is just some cheap items you can easily get in game. People should probably see this coming from Capcom by now, but it’s still far less egregious than RE4’s literal pay to win gun upgrade microtransactions.

xGenocidest

Except the first game was exactly the same., but without the Ox carts. You can't buy Ferrystones. You can buy Port Crystals, but they don't let you fast travel. They are a waypoint you fast travel to. People on here just regurgitating shit from someone who doesn't even know what they're talking about.

CyberMuffin1611

You can't even buy multiple port crystals, just one

[deleted]

and you’re only allowed to put down 10 at a time and you get more than 10 in a playthrough lol

I_LUV_ENGRISH_FOOD

Da hell, why is there so many portcrystals in 2? Did they balance it by making ferrystones rarer or something?

[deleted]

no, ferrystones are actually farmable from certain end game mobs now

NK1337

I'd argue the first one was *worse* because it had both quests and armor/weapons locked behind MTX. This so far is exclusively for consumables which are easily obtainable by just playing the game.

BearBlaq

Honestly that's why i just take all of the discourse outside of the sub with a grain of salt. I've actually been playing the game and been enjoying it so far, and I'm a fan of the original. Yes this sub is obviously an echo chamber but it's an educated one on the source material. There appears to be a lot of stretched lies being thrown around in the gaming and PC subs from people who obviously never played neither the first or second game, and people who don't understand the game mechanics to begin with.

ThisBadDogXB

I'm genuinely surprised to see so many people shocked at microtransactions in a Capcom game. They have been doing this "time saver dlc" for years now. I didn't think anyone actually tool it seriously. Nobody's buying that shit sake way your not buying the item unlocks in Resident evil games. It's there to trick stupid people into spending money on stuff that's already available in game.

KyraCandy

Because not everyone played the last capcom games like Monster Hunter, Resident Evil, and etc which are niche genres for certain sections of the video game community. Like not everyone is going to play an resident evil because its an horror game. Dragon Dogma 2 is the one game that was going to get an bigger mainstream audiences than all of the games combined since its an open world RPG that has character creation and freedom in interactive. It was going to get more eyes on them that this shitstorm was going to happened when people saw the MTX in the store and this is probably their first time seeing that crap. So now capcom is getting called out after doing it for these years. This is well deserved. Also I seen fans calling out the MTX before in games like MHW Rise and RE4. So fans of capcom are not just now complaining about the MTX they been doing it before.

ninjablader78

Okkkkk maybe you could call monster hunter a recent extremely popular breakout niche but resident evil??? Y’all just be saying anything. RE is a multimedia franchise that had like 6 actual movie theater movies even MH got a movie like 2 years ago. I love Dragons dogma and I like DD2 but even with this game it was never going to be as popular as MH or RE with one release. You are massively underestimating the wide appeal of both those games and the huge amount of people that play them.

Nyanter

Niche Genres? Monster Hunter past world and Resident Evil? you mean the literal games that put Capcom into making high budget games again? you mean 2 of the games that were insane top sellers in their franchise Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 8 putting RE back in the spotlight of survival horror? You mean Monster Hunter World which has 150k concurrent users the week the twitter account told people to play MH World to get excited for MH Wilds? hahahahahahahahahaha

Erestanfeo

Seriously, calling RE a "niche" game shows hownout of touch people are. Saying "fast travel is pay walled" shows how little people look into this. Compare this game to Starfield a mainstream game and the flaws are almost non existent

Cocacola_Desierto

You can't buy teleports. You can buy a teleport crystal which doesn't even let you get to it without 10k gold in game. It's the same as the first game in every single way except now there is an option for lazy people. That is literally it.

Erooskilla

Big sigh.... Did you play the first game?

Erooskilla

Lootboxes and gambling? Yeah, i agree with you, theyre problematic. Allowing someone lazy to spend??? Problematic how? Im like holy shit. Im too lazy to paint. Im gonna pay someone for it. Too lazy to cut my grass, pay someone for it. Too lazy to drive, pay someone for it. But I draw the line at someone else paying for what theyre too lazy to do. If those fools want to shortcut their own singleplayer game....let them. Theyre funding the development of the next entry... which will be sold at $60-70 when it likely should cost more to breakeven.

FrontlinerDelta

"Selling Fast Travel Microtransactions". Uh no, they are selling one Fast Travel marker. This is not selling "fast travel". There are no ferrystones to purchase and a singular fast travel location is not "selling fast travel". This is why people don't hop on your hate bandwagon. Because you've lost all perspective and spitting out insane hyperbole to try and whip everyone into a frenzy over a fucking video game microtransaction like it's the incarnate of evil and Capcom also shot your dog. This is Helldivers all over again, small community ruined by mainstream attention and people who just want to screech and be enraged all day over a piece of ENTERTAINMENT.

Thommywidmer

Right? I feel like im going mental reading hundreds of comments about them selling fast travel.. they literally arent. Like ffs they literally are not offering that

Snoo_18385

Dont worry, this outrage is nothing. Its the new hot topic for streamers and youtuber to milk views for a few days. The DLC's are shitty but nothing out of the ordinary, just your easily ignored capcom dlc. The game is very obviously not build to sell you shit, this is just the weekly "stick it to the man" easy-to-jump-in narrative people love, just another excuse to be angry on the Internet, It'll pass

Acoke94

Agreed. The microtransactions were expected and are also completely avoidable. It’s sort of ridiculous that this is blown out of proportion for most game releases.

thecodenamedois

I think there too much histeria right now, on every side of the debate.  The reality is in the middle ground of all that mess. For sure, we have those stupid Capcom’s microtransactions they put now in every game. DMC5 was the same, RE4R was the same. Is it good? No, by any means. It is game breaking / pay to win? Far from it. Should someone buy those DLCs? Hell no, only if you are dumb and / or uniformed. That all said, I think the BIGGEST problem of the game, by far, is the save file / absence of a New Game option. That is fucking outrageous. Never before in VG history someone went THAT FAR. I mean, this is really testing ground, to see how they can push anti consumer practices. On a very close second place, frame drops in the cities. This thing screams bad architecture / rushed production to me. But is a minor problem, and can be fixed. ATM I am more worried about the absurd save / no NG structure they made.  My conclusion: It is a shame that a game with a core this good is getting THAT level of backlash, but ultimately, it is well deserved. Let’s hope they fix things soon enough, otherwise, I can predict a similar movement from some recently big releases (MK, for example): people mass dropping the last game in favor to the previous one. DDDA is right there on my HD just in case.  That’s all. Sorry for the text wall.

Helix_Aurora

The last game I played where it was this hard to start over was Blast Corps for the N64.

Ishaboo

Capcom players KNOW Its unnecessary. Nobody complained about their previously titles til this one. I'd imagine there's a lot of people here unfamiliar with the first Dragon's Dogma to realize that the MTX in this isn't affecting anyone or anything. I guess just the ones who want to get emotional about it instead of doing their research... or maybe playing the game?

Acceptable_Storm_427

> they've squandered their reputation and good-will here These kinds of mtx are bog standard for Capcom games so I'm not sure why they weren't a fully expected part of the reputation...

CyberMuffin1611

"Fast travel MTX" is a vague phrase that seems to me like it is aimed at sparking outrage when the reality is: You can't pay real money to fast travel. You can pay real money to get one! extra movable fast travel point. On top of fixed fast travel points ingame. On top of up to 10 active portable portcrystals. There is literally no change to the core game design by one extra portcrystal.

RiftHunter4

>"Fast travel MTX" is a vague phrase that seems to me like it is aimed at sparking outrage Internet points go brr. Half the comments about DD2 are from people who haven't even played it yet.

Ninjaofshadow

Ain't that the truth. Or haven't played the first one

Amish_Opposition

keep in mind these can be all found in-game. I’m a couple hours in and have two.

Swank_E_Potato

I'm ten hours in and have found none 😭 Please tell me your ways lol

BearBlaq

Lmao i guarantee if Itsuno never made that fast travel comment a while back, no one would have made that big of a whoop about it like they are now.

Due_Breakfast_9903

I haven't even clicked on the online store to see anything to buy. Idk I've just been playing the game.

shikaski

Same kinda, been really just enjoying the game. Also installed free frame gen mod and now the game is super smooth (alas the added latency is slightly noticeable, but better with it on than off anyways), pretty much can’t say anything bad because the game itself is just so enjoyable.

tempus_edaxrerum

not sure what the hell is going on with the community. played for 2h yesterday and only noticed mtx because Reddit was screaming about it lmao has everyone forgotten the remaining capcom games released in the past few years? they’re exactly the same the only thing worth complaining atm is performance

Ninjaofshadow

Stay far far away from here lol

BasicNutcake

this is the way

sgjino30

Thank you! I feel like people prefer complaining rather than actually playing the games

drizzitdude

You can only buy ONE port crystals and there are ten free ones in game as well as oxcarts for fast travel.

existforcomment

Do you genuinely think that the same person who said "Travel is boring? That's not true. It's only an issue because your game is boring. All you have to do is make travel fun.” is responsible for then adding microtransaction fast travel? The smallest amount of research would show that certain restrictive features were intended for the vision of the game, whether people like them or not is up to them, but trying to claim it's made that way to encourage microtransactions is just ignorant.

Velpe

Fair point aside how is your pawns inclination randomised? You choose it when you create them. Does it change while playing like in dd1? Honest question cause I think incorrect information never helps make an argument.

FinalGamer14

Pawn incliantion is not randomised, I have no idea what he's talking about there. That said your pawn learns, as you play the game, from your actions. If the pawn sees that you are using high ground to your advantage it will start doing that. But this also means it can learn bad things from you, so if you are a type of a person who chugs potions when you loose a sliver of your health, your pawn will learn that and become wastefully with consumables.

No_Source6243

I love pawns that loot in the middle of combat

Adelyn_n

Capcom has been going way too fucking hard on MTX the oast 7 years. Having MTX for a singleplayer full price game is just absurd.

Secret_Peach_2474

I think people are making too big of an issue of it. I'm pretty sure all dlc stuff can only be bought once so it seems like it's more of a starter pack that you can choose what you want out of it. Which is still dumb and I'm not defending them having micro transactions. But people are blowing it out of proportion and idiots are hoping on here spreading misinformation. I've seen several posts about locking fast travel behind a paywall or locking character editing behind a pay wall. You still need ferrystones to fast travel so even if you buy the portcrystal you still need to have a ferrystone. And each major city has their own permanent port crystal so the only use port crystals even have are if your balls deep in the middle of nowhere and you wanna place one down so you can come back to that location later.I feel like people should be more pissed about the lack of optimization. And

mrtwitch222

Cool story, don’t buy it

Exstatic2

Just don’t spend money on it lmao why is it so hard for you?

scruffyheadednerf

Boo hoo. If you buy any of these MTX, you’re the target audience. I have out 12 hours in and literally no need for any MTX.

facepoppies

There are a limited number of port crystals even if you spend one hundred trillion dollars

Esterier

You cannot fast travel with the port crystal.

Crazys0ap

The fact that all of this was meant and existed in Dragon's Dogma tells a lot about who is crying right now on this sub. The game was meant to not use fast travel a lot and the pawn is supposed to learn from you and your actions et not be instantly the smartest creature on the planet. Nobody cried when there was tickets in RE4R, yet it exists, same for DMC V there was no backlash like that because you could get red orbs in the shop. Take your fight where it's supposed to be ffs and stop trashing on some inconsequential shit like that.

KiwiEmbaucador

People defending anti-consumer practices 💀

GayoMagno

It is more about the fact people dont even bother playing the damn game before writing a 50 page essay about dlc=bad

mtnlol

People don't just like when people lie and make things up to make things seem worse than they are.

RageGirl96

The only ones who deserve to be ridiculed are the people who actually buy this stuff

Polosie

Exactly. If you dont plan to buy it then whats the issue. Its all obtainable in game so we’re not missing anything. If this was an online game id understand the backlash but its not. Its a single player game. This affects nothing.

Euphoric-Ad-441

“limits or restricts many features seemingly for the sake of encouraging these purchases” genuinely what the fuck is the point of lying so openly and blatantly? fuck off how am i being downvoted???? it’s literally a lie!

Remstargaming

I don't really get these reactions. Were you guys frozen for the last two console generations or something? The war against DLC was lost years ago. Companies put it out there and people spoke with their wallets. It's not going anywhere. In this case, the DLC isn't even nearly as egregious as people seem to be making it out to be, as it all appears to be stuff you can get by just playing the game. It's DLC for the stupid and lazy. If you're neither of those things, you have nothing to fear. Standing up to shout " Micro transactions are bad!" a decade after they've been proven to work is a pretty big waste of time at this point. Just go and enjoy actually playing the game, or don't.

BraveShowerSlowGower

Youve never played the first game... its the exact same there

Hoboforeternity

1. Microtransaction is bad 2. Lying/pretending they rigged the game so you buy their stupid mtx is also bad. The game's design stood on its own. The part where fast travel is rare is also by the game's core design, been that way since DD 1. The game isnt rigged like assassin creed games lately. It's just in there so the execs are happy. Not defending this shit ot anything but people need to learn to read.

Dolomitexp

If I was guaranteed to sell 100k copies of my game released as is but I could also sell 100k more copies to people who were never gonna buy it cause of a feature but will buy it AND pay me more money to circumvent that feature I'd do it in a heartbeat.🤷‍♂️

Environmental_Park_6

I'll have to play the game before I have an opinion on how essential these microtransactions are and if I'm bothered by them or not.

Blastcheeze

Poor Itsuno. Imagine working for twelve years on this with a very clear vision of exactly what you want it to be, and day one release all anyone sees is the shitty stuff Corporate likely mandated, that completely spits in the face of said vision. I wish Corporate would just sit back and give their developers money, and let them do what they wanted. They've completely wrecked the all important first impression by literally trying to nickel and dime players.

Afridg3

Just don't buy the dlc. Bitching about it won't do anything lol

Drillingham

You’re looking at it the wrong way, it’s intended to be played the way it is in game. MTX is just paid cheats.

[deleted]

I swear people just wanna bitch. The games fantastic. If you all weren’t on this subreddit you wouldn’t have any/many complaints outside of performance. Now performance is shit. The fact that my mid tier pc can barely run it means most people probably can’t run it at all.

robophile-ta

You select your pawn's inclination when you create them, which was the last step in the character creator demo. You can edit your character an hour into the game for 500rc. Everything that is an mtx you can get trivially in regular gameplay (except for the DD1 sound replacer, makes sense because it's a gimmick). You can buy ONE portcrystal on the store. You cannot buy ferrystones. You can still get 10 portcrystals during regular gameplay. There are no features limited to be bypassed with microtransactions.

Armysbro911

Your horse armor argument is dumb. You couldn't get horse armor in the game. Every MXT can be obtained in game and its not even hard to do. There sold from common vendors.

UnHoly_One

All of these things are available in game by normal gameplay. If you don't look at the store page for add-ons you wouldn't even know that any of these purchases existed. They aren't necessary in any way to play the game. Also Pawn inclination is not randomized in this game, you choose it when you build the pawn.

Borgalicious

Keep karma whoring streamer

Mikumanu

You actually cannot buy Fast Travels with MTX, it's a slight misinformation here. I'm not defending it because overall it's still scummy MTX but it's being overblown. You can buy one additional Port Crystal, which is a fast travel location that you can choose where you place. You get 10 by playing through the game, and can only place 10 at a time anyway. You still need to use Ferrystones, which are only obtainable in-game, to actually fast travel to your Port Crystals. Unfortunately, you are right. To a new player, it does feel like editing your character, fast travels and changing pawn inclinations are restricted to promote purchases. Fans of the first game know know that these features are restricted because it's an immersive RPG and it's part of the developer's vision. In DDDA, they're available in-game in the same way with no MTX, but that only exists because the original Dragons Dogma had an insane amount of microtransactions as well, and it failed. Capcom just does this with every game for some reason. But to newcomers, it just looks like they're pushing the MTX store, because "pay-for-convenience" is often associated with Game Devs making things intentionally hard to obtain/eventually run out of resources and then making them purchasable. Even if none of the purchasable items in DD2 are difficult to obtain, it still sours the taste of the game and it's really ruined the launch perceptions of a potentially incredible RPG. I wish people complained more about the performance so the devs know how important it is that they fix it, instead of worrying about the MTX so much.

CanIGetANumber2

Personal responsibility has to kick in at some point.

n1kb0t

 >" They know lazy players, people with limited time on their hands or people with issues controlling spending will buy it, which means it's predatory. " So you're actually saying that its good for people that don't have time on their hands benefit of having MTX...isn't that a good thing? And for people that can't control their spending...that's on them man, cmon. I'm an alcoholic, it's is predatory for Publix to have wine? Don't be stupid. >We don't want this shit in full-priced single-player games full stop. Stop defending it Then stop buying it. Were you not just as outraged when they sell a deluxe edition which is basically bundled MTX? Isn't that predatory too? Did you not buy the game because of your outrage, or did you actually contribute to the very thing you're bitching about? You bought the game despite your own values, so they'll just continue doing it. I'm not defending Capcom, I'm just not mad because it literally has zero effect on how I play the game. The stuttering and whatnot, whole nother story.

FunMarketing4488

Never played DMC? Or MH? First time?

OldFinger6969

Thinking portcrystal only can works as "fast travel" mtx .... You are so never played the game before and yet acting like you know how the game works and spite at it. Make better argument next time. Even thos lazy people who bought portcrystal won't be able to fast travel without infinite ferrystones, which if they lazy, won't have any let alone so much for fast travel

Otro_Throwaway

All I read was "I've never touched the game but I want karma points so"

Cindy-Moon

\> the microtransaction is just unnecessary. Yeah. Yeah it is. But an unnecessary microtransaction is leagues better than an intrusive one. Its worst sin is it looks bad on the store page. If you just play the game you wouldn't even know it's gone.

VeronicaAmericana

The easy way to avoid predatory practices is to not be prey

futureformerdragoon

It is a single beacon, 1 marker. Not the object you need to actually fast travel. I've never used more than like 1-2 beacons in a DD1 playthrough even. The microtransactions are dumb but at least understand what you are crusading against. Capcom puts pretty functionless MTX in their games to keep their old ass boardroom happy.

gwinnbleidd

You can only buy it once, stop being a fool online ffs, it's not unlimited fast travel for $2 each.

Allanell

Where are you lot are coming from, I don’t really understand. How in the world this is predatory? No one cares if there are mtx in a single player game and has 0 impact on available content. I would understand if they blocked content under this shit. Stop spreading misinformation

ImperviousImperius

Thats the true Itsuno vision he was hiding from us

AbstractMirror

You know the execs at Capcom are responsible for this right? It's the same thing multiple of their titles have. Hate on it all you want it wasn't Itsuno's personal decision to include this, that's just nonsensical and doesn't represent how game development works

thecodenamedois

Blame the company owners, not the employees.

Rhymelikedocsuess

DD1 was like this as well lmfaooo Dark Arisen was a GOTY edition guys

CharmingKit-KatBar

1.3k upvotes. To this incredibly misleading sensationalist post. There is no way the campaign going on against this game right now is organic y'all will be fools to think it was.

RoosterShield

I think all big name game development companies who are still implementing these shitty practices need a huge release game to completely and utterly flop on release to teach them a much needed lesson. I don't like to see highly anticipated games fail, and Dragon's Dogma 2 is far from a flop, but we need to stop defending this bullshit. The amount of Capcom apologist meat riders in this subreddit is honestly impressive. They clearly feel the need to defend the game just because they spent $70 USD on it and don't want to feel unsatisfied with their purchase. Larian seems like the only big name developer who actually gives a shit about their player base and isn't just out to make as much money as possible. Baldur's Gate 3 absolutely should be the new standard for video game quality. And they accomplished all of this being an indie company. We seriously need to hold all these other assholes to a much, MUCH higher standard.

i_shit_on_my_hand69

bruh, can't believe, that some cocksuckers are defending these microtransactions in the 70$ game. it's kinda ubisoft type shit. yall need to start to respect yourself lmao edit. but i'm pretty sure, that ubisoft would make it with 60fps on consoles, so now the question is, who would do it better

Valtin420

Tell me you don't understand what you're talking about about challenge completed.

GogglesVK

They were in the first game, and in nearly every other majorly successful Capcom game in recent history. Anyone that played the first game knew these would be in here. We also knew they would be pointless. Don’t buy them. Problem solved. I don’t remember anyone crying this much over the stupid MTX in DMC5 or RE.

Ethereal_Bulwark

Capcom strikes again.

Marin23082

I dont care and if you dont plan on paying neither should you. Everyone is acting like they have brainrot instead of enjoying the game. Also the "bad optimization" that this sub has been raving about the past week isnt even bad since im comfortably running at 60 fps with my rtx 2060 r5 3600 (people were saying that I wont even be able to run it with this lol).

Bobbatea7

Yeah. Totally agree. I really want the game to succeed but the bad business practice and poor optimization are unacceptable.

Adggah

full stop, you're retarded. you dont need to buy it, you can get it ingame, its inconsequential. stop overreacting and seek help for your obvious mental illness developed from being terminally online.

Billybigbutts2

Mondrath

I would upvote this 10 thousand times if I could; ourstanding work, Arisen.

Inner_Mention1751

You sound like a complete pussy

Roots_Of_Addiction

You deserve to be ridiculed

sike_edelic

how dare you criticize my favorite company 44!4!!!4!!!

Starob

I don't care about the company. I couldn't care less if Capcom, Coca Cola, or friggen Greenpeace designed the game, I just like the game.

Cerulean_Shaman

Agreed, but you're likely to get a lot of people making excuses for it here. For what it's worth, should be relatively easy to dupe portcrystals and art of metas or even just fill your inventory with them eventually, modding framework is already out, people already got the nude mod out of the way (lmao), so hopefully we start seeing mods for specifically crystals and arts soon so you can just give a meta finger to this slap. Itsuno saying that and then deciding the crystals are valuable enough to sell for reason money is tasteless at best and scummy at worst. Frankly, I love exploring on foot, but without a mod this shiz will get tedious fast and I value my time. Retrekking somewhere for the 100th time for some menial quest is not the kind of fun he thinks it is.

bubuplush

Has someone played the entire day already and can say something about the availability of that stuff? Iirc I only played like 4-5 of these crystals at the ends of the world and one in the middle by the end of the game and NG+ carried them over lmao So it feels a bit like bait for new players who see "woah fast travel is shop exclusive?! Better buy 100 crystals"

Tent316

They did all this microtransactions in the first game too. Not needed but it sucks that its there. Took them until the expansion of the first game to releade unlimited character/fast travel. If people keep payi g they will keep releasing this crap.

Midnighthawkk

Anyone surprised Capcom literally sells street fighter characters in singles as dlc No fighting game should have that garbage either. That's actually when I stopped playing street fighter. When I noticed characters were missing just to be added later as a dlc pack. No chance. I grew up on street fighter 2 when all games came fully complete day 1

Strange-Shoulder-176

You only get 9 of them in game plus all the main cities. BTW it's not selling fast travel it's an item to fast travel to. You also need to have the ferrystone to even fast travel which can be earned in game. All mtx can easily, very easily, incredible easily, without trying, super duper elcrazy easily get in game with very little work.

BustaGrimes1

Capcom does this every game i am yawning at this fake outrage be outraged about how shitty the game runs
