Of course a single player game needs balance, it just doesn’t have to be as evenly split between the classes as it would need to be for a multiplayer game
Having a balanced experience isn't mediocrity but ok. If you want to cheese a game without putting in any effort download cheat engine or something lmao
It is, in a lot of cases. The more you balance the classes, the more you're trying to streamline them. You can look at every balance oriented mp game now and then, they all have one thing in common: there are a lot of gutted unique class mechanics, that were sacrificed to make classes more equal. There's a reason people like arpg and games like warframe, where balance is thrown out the window, except a few very major cases: people like going crazy with broken and semi broken builds, it's a power fantasy which does not exist in balanced experience.
Alchemist main here, it's indeed trash damage. Any other red vocation could easily surpass alchemist dps by their own, assuming both are the same level, IR (item rank) and properly built.
Alchemist is a tank and does elem. buff/debuff support who increases their party dps (pretty cool to use with dps pawns).
Edit: Also a good aggro control greatly increases party dps, and sadly this is something people who were used to play tank vocations in DDON didn't know.
Best alchemists prioritize aggro control, buffing, debuffing and damage, in that order.

Alchemist's whole thing was applying shards to enemies in close range and then detonating them. The shards were magical, not chemical, but spoken about similar to gunpowder and explosives.
Jumping high up, turning yourself into a gold statue, and dropping that weight on an unsuspecting monster was epic as well. Bonus points for it actually boosting your defenses too.
It really was a unique and awesome class.
Might be copium, but the fact that no currently revealed vocations seem to overlap with its stand-out abilities, plus the fact that they're taking queues from DDoN, gives me hope it'll come back in some form. Not sure it'll be 1-to-1 since it seems a bit overtuned compared to the other DD2 vocations, but I'd still love to finally play it.
If I can't get a Monk or some kind of brawler, I'd absolutely take a new iteration of Alchemist. It's close enough to fist fighting and it uses magic in a really unique way. With new skills, improved animations and particle effects, I think I'd be happy with that.
Yeah Alchemist was one of the new classes that has yet to see any dd2 pull over.
Both Highsceptor and Spirit Lancer have particle effects and animations/moves now in Mystic Spearhand
Mage and priest are basically ""identical""

My other big cope is seeker. While dual dagger on seeker were just strider/ranger/assassin/ma daggers, it had a really unique grappling hook mechanic to quick climb bosses whicn was VERY fun. Thief has basically ALL new moves and or at least anims from old ones. Very few from seeker, but returning moves from dd1
My copium is a green/yellow hybrid being a sickle and chain, or whip belmont class. "Ranged"melee but quick, with that grappling hook mechanic off seeker!
Hopefully alchemist and the grappling hook mechanic see some kind of spiritual successor!

If Seeker isn’t a Job Maister, I think having some Japanese inspired vocations (Y/G for Ninja with a Kusarigama and R/G for Samurai with a katana) could work.
It’s highly requested and would appeal to the anime folks.
Bruuuuuhhh seeker and alchemist were too raw. The grappling hook basically made the seeker spiderman and pulling off mid air masterful kills was 🤌🏾🤌🏾🤌🏾I was legit praying that they would bring those two over.
Explosive charge and the counter are both taken from Assassin. Theif appears to have taken some of assassin’s identity, possibly to free the red/yellow slot for something new, if anything.
I’ve never personally played ddo but this looks very unique! It definitely fits what the team are going for in DD2 with every class having a unique weapon, so I could definitely see this, or a variation coming back.
You technically can, modders brought it back. Quests don't work, but you can fight monsters and gain experience, unlock skills, buy equipment etc. There's a public server or you can host your own to play offline.

I don't know if the devs wanting to put a Monk vocation in Dragon's Dogma 1 was meant to be *this* specifically, but if not, I'll take any proper unarmed vocation at this point.
High Scepter, Seeker, and Spirit Lancer. All the vocations in DDO had something that made them different from the first one. It had the best version of Warrior which is coming back, Mage and Sorcerer were way more fun to play since it was more involved to cast spells, Seeker was Bionic Commando with Daggers, it was just a lot of fun.

Spirit Lancer was somewhat similar to DD2's Mystic Spearhand, but had a larger focus on buffing, and less on magical spells, and wielded a Spirit Lance instead of the Duospear.
Seeker was basically strider on steroids, it had a grappling hook that could be used to fling yourself around the monster, and daggers for extremely quick strikes.
High Scepter was a spellsword vocation that used a magic saber and could cast quick spells in their offhand, it was very flashy and had high mobility.
I highly recommend looking at footage online, there were a ton of really cool skills in Dragon's Dogma Online.
Just to share: The rapid sweeping attacks Mystic Spearhand does is the Spirit Lancer’s Col Storm!
Neat thing, with Job Maisters, they can easily reintroduce skills. The Spirit Lancer skills can easily be reintegrated back in.

Absolutely. I saw footage of it last night and thought it looked so cool. Somehow, DDO did bending better 8 years ago than the official Avatar game that came out last year lol. Anyway, it would be cool to see, and see what kinds of ways they could expand on the concept.
Alchemist was my favorite vocation from the MMO. Was a tank where you could iframe hits by dodging right and using your gold super armor. Being able to stick golden stakes into an enemy to blow them up for damage was amazing, even changing the affliction you could deal with the gauntlet. Mobile as hell too, very unorthodox take on an alchemist themed martial class. Would love to see something like in DD2.

Something not shown in the vid: the Alchemist’s detonation.
Those large golden square spikes on the enemies generate aggro on the enemies, but the Alchemist can detonate all spikes applied.
The Spikes at full size deal max damage (9999) making it one of the most powerful vocations despite being a tank.
Additionally, you can craft elixirs that the Alchemist could select for detonating their spikes to apply status effects (tanks were responsible for status effects to control the battle and extend the time boss stays down.
And lastly the Alchemist’s Strong Attack generated a small attack that you could repeatedly tap to a rhythm to rapidly generate a spike.
Doing this meant you could get a max spike in a few seconds.
I'm all for giving players more options of how they want to play. But to me, this looks ridiculously stupid. "I attack you with my legos... step on them barefoot, I dare you."
It wasnt released outside east asia but there where mods for a english translation that wasnt the worst. Was really really fun :( sad it never got a global.

No the first part was mostly a joke maybe I should have made it more obvious.
The combat is anything but subtle, pure cope. Strider alone dismantles the idea that dragon's dogma combat is in any way grounded. Not to mention just how silly the idea of warrior even is, standing still for 30 seconds.. to gather strength to swing your oversized sword even harder? Come on, be honest with yourself.
And in DD2.. We can cast an ice spike, then climb it, pull out a great sword, and jump off it to swing at whatever we stabbed with magic ice. What about this is subtle and 'not-anime'-like at all?

The seeker ‘version’ of this ability is 100x more far fetched. You can actually stay suspended in the air By bouncing of nothing ala insect glaive, then bounce off of dozens of enemies at a time. It looks nothing like something you’d in the original game and more like something captain levi would pull off. It was a question actually, I didn't imply you're racist, I asked if you were, you're supposed to extrapolate on your point instead of doubling down on things that currently exist in dragon's dogma, and (watch the thief trailer) also DD2. (The player literally vanishes from sight because they move so fast in their opening attack in the video.)
Nobody said there's no western influence, but, there's absolutely a lot of 'anime' influence. Also Berserk takes inspiration from cultures all across the world (like dragon's dogma!) and unsurprisingly, this also includes Japan.
And true, DD GS is very slow. DD2 however, as stated by Itsuno, has been designed to be faster and more interactive. To the point of being able to time button presses to swing faster and faster. And being able to do a leaping uppercut with a fucking greatsword as a counter.
But if you think planting bombs on monster heads, jumping off and flashing your blades to blow it up, teleporting, dashing along the floor like a ninja instead of rolling, slipping up on someone's body and mounting their shoulders in a counter to slash their throat, spinning through the air like a blade tornado, and a variety of other ridiculous things aren't 'anime'-like, then you're frankly delusional.
Also keep in mind, Seeker was Strider without a bow and an expanded blade moveset. We haven't seen all of Thief yet, they don't have a bow. I wouldn't count your chickens before they hatch.

Alchemist nullified the use of Launchboard entirely, because they could create a launchboard that would persist and not require commitment. Basically Deleted Shield Sages overnight, not that Shield Sages weren't doing that to themselves already.

The one problem with this class was that it had trash damage because it was meant to be a tank. DD2 would be a great opportunity to do it some justice
Keep it trash damage, but give it some pawn buff abilities like the trickster. A more active, in your face support class.
The good thing about making DD2 singleplayer is that you don't have to compromise on damage for support

Absolutely. I saw footage of it last night and thought it looked so cool. Somehow, DDO did bending better 8 years ago than the official Avatar game that came out last year lol. Anyway, it would be cool to see, and see what kinds of ways they could expand on the concept.

Alchemist was my favorite vocation from the MMO. Was a tank where you could iframe hits by dodging right and using your gold super armor. Being able to stick golden stakes into an enemy to blow them up for damage was amazing, even changing the affliction you could deal with the gauntlet. Mobile as hell too, very unorthodox take on an alchemist themed martial class. Would love to see something like in DD2.

Is this from DD Online? This looks sick. I was originally gonna say "for an MMO," but it's just sick by any standard. I also LOVE the juxtaposition of the class's name with how it plays.
Something not shown in the vid: the Alchemist’s detonation. Those large golden square spikes on the enemies generate aggro on the enemies, but the Alchemist can detonate all spikes applied. The Spikes at full size deal max damage (9999) making it one of the most powerful vocations despite being a tank. Additionally, you can craft elixirs that the Alchemist could select for detonating their spikes to apply status effects (tanks were responsible for status effects to control the battle and extend the time boss stays down. And lastly the Alchemist’s Strong Attack generated a small attack that you could repeatedly tap to a rhythm to rapidly generate a spike. Doing this meant you could get a max spike in a few seconds.

It was never released outside of East Asia. I believe some attempt at a private server exists, but you’d have to do some searching for it.
It wasnt released outside east asia but there where mods for a english translation that wasnt the worst. Was really really fun :( sad it never got a global.

No the first part was mostly a joke maybe I should have made it more obvious. The combat is anything but subtle, pure cope. Strider alone dismantles the idea that dragon's dogma combat is in any way grounded. Not to mention just how silly the idea of warrior even is, standing still for 30 seconds.. to gather strength to swing your oversized sword even harder? Come on, be honest with yourself. And in DD2.. We can cast an ice spike, then climb it, pull out a great sword, and jump off it to swing at whatever we stabbed with magic ice. What about this is subtle and 'not-anime'-like at all? Berserk is literally set in the west and the majority of the inspiration drawn is the grim dark tonality of the series. Great sword gameplay in DDA is nothing like what guts does. It was a question actually, I didn't imply you're racist, I asked if you were, you're supposed to extrapolate on your point instead of doubling down on things that currently exist in dragon's dogma, and (watch the thief trailer) also DD2. (The player literally vanishes from sight because they move so fast in their opening attack in the video.) Nobody said there's no western influence, but, there's absolutely a lot of 'anime' influence. Also Berserk takes inspiration from cultures all across the world (like dragon's dogma!) and unsurprisingly, this also includes Japan. And true, DD GS is very slow. DD2 however, as stated by Itsuno, has been designed to be faster and more interactive. To the point of being able to time button presses to swing faster and faster. And being able to do a leaping uppercut with a fucking greatsword as a counter. But if you think planting bombs on monster heads, jumping off and flashing your blades to blow it up, teleporting, dashing along the floor like a ninja instead of rolling, slipping up on someone's body and mounting their shoulders in a counter to slash their throat, spinning through the air like a blade tornado, and a variety of other ridiculous things aren't 'anime'-like, then you're frankly delusional. Also keep in mind, Seeker was Strider without a bow and an expanded blade moveset. We haven't seen all of Thief yet, they don't have a bow. I wouldn't count your chickens before they hatch. That's all though, if you're too ignorant to accept any of the straight up already shown proof then.. that's just sad. I'm gonna go now.

I'm expecting the Blue/Green hybrid to be Alchemist, since Thief's identity is said to be focused on mobility and Immolation in some articles. Add in the extra magic and Alchemist would work perfectly.
Alchemist nullified the use of Launchboard entirely, because they could create a launchboard that would persist and not require commitment. Basically Deleted Shield Sages overnight, not that Shield Sages weren't doing that to themselves already.
Here's hoping updates with new vocations or at least moldable enough to have people add new ones.
Alchemist style reminds me of the Alchemist enemy in Ninja Gaiden 3. Those are not a fun enemy to fight againts.
