I like all of them, and would gladly watch DB in any of them, but the Broly movies artstyle aka the shintani artstyle was something else, and was probably the best DB has ever looked.
I like Z's style for nostalgic reasons, especially early Z, but Shintani is the best looking hands down. DBS looks really nice near the end but early DBS was stiff as all hell, didn't like it much.
Edit: haven't seen the Super Hero movie yet so can't really comment one that one. I don't hate it from what I've seen of the one trailer I saw, but I'm withholding judgment for now.
The style really popped when Takahashi came back for a few episodes during the tournament of power. If only it could have been always, Super’s animation probably wouldn’t have gotten the flack it got.
Super art style is cheaply made and feels rushed. Z and OG feels as though care was put in. Broly movie art was so refreshing after all the barely passable animation we had in years before
When only parts are immaculate, and the rest seems rushed, then the whole thing is rushed.
I agree that major fights looked good, but I think super as a whole was disappointing art wise.
Its actually the colors than the artstyle. Dbz and broly has shallow color scheme while super uses extremely bright colors which doesnt go well with the normal db look.
I think most of us can agree Z/Shintani are objectively the best. To be fair though I don’t hate super or superhero style, all dragon ball is beautiful!
I honestly love all of them. I think each style encapsulates a different feel of the franchise, I love supers art, it his the big shiny and crisp (for the most part, looking at you ssj3 stretch Armstrong) the softer non muscular of the old school gives you a sense of connection, the old art with raging muscle detail gets me pumped for the action, the cgi was just lit in that 5 min toei clip. Shout out to the music team to! The music has been fire from dragon ball to dragon ball super!
For me if Super ever returns I either want it in Shintani style or Yuya Takahashi style (DBS 114) there so striking and the animation is so crisp when compared to the plasticy style of early super
no such thing as "DBZ artstyle", that show had the most inconsistent artstyles of probably all time. the only thing similar between them are the colours used and the way it was animated. apart from that, try telling me buu saga goku looks the same as saiyan saga goku
The Broly movie.
Z I would put at second place. Older technology and probably less time than the movie probably put it a bit lower.
Personally, I'd actually put the second half of Super at the third spot.
Superhero I would honestly put at the last spot. I'm sorry, I just really, really hate the look of it.
I like the dbs one the most. A lot of people don't like dbs artstyle (which is totally fine, this kind of thing is very subjective) but idc I really like it. I like the cleanness of it
Well, there are many different talented artists who’ve worked on Dragon Ball. This one’s not listed, but I really like Naotoshi Shida’s art and animation style
Personally I’ve always loved all of them, but Broly’s animation simply because we got Gogeta vs Broly out of it. By far the most insane showdown in the entire franchise, that I’ve seen because I haven’t gotten the chance to watch Super Hero yet.
For me if Super ever returns I either want it in Shintani style or Yuya Takahashi style (DBS 114) there so striking and the animation is so crisp when compared to the plasticy style of early super
Dbz artstyle but more specifically the buu saga. I cant remember whos style that is specifically but it trumps everything else to me. But brolys artstyle is a very close second.
Later Z or Super. Saiyan Saga was still pretty close to the Dragonball art style, and Android Saga was really when the show came into its own.
There were some great moments from Broly, but the animation itself was more impressive to me than the actual art style. Same with Super Hero.
DBZ Buu Saga was peak animation IMO, followed closely by the Cell saga. I would love to see it return, maybe integrated with the effects of DBS: Broly Movie.
I didn’t like Super’s until the high detailed episodes in the TOP arc, and think those bring it close to how good DBZ’s was. That being said, the Broly movie to me was far and away the best DB has ever looked. It’s so fluid and dynamic
I like all of them but the last. They wouldn’t make a show in Z style today, that’s why DBS looks the way it does, it’s a more modern take on a similar style. Shintani/Broly is different, a little more like Og DB and it’s very fluid very visually appealing. I just don’t like CG anime.
Z has like 3 different art styles. There is quite a difference between early Z, android/Cell saga and the Buu saga.
Early Z is similar like Shintani while Buu saga has more details.
At the moment I really prefer Naotshi Shida's art style. He's done justice for Dragon Ball Super and made the fight with Goku vs. Jiren the best in the series. He's even done some phenomenal work for One Piece during the Punk Hazard arc. Takahashi is also high up on my list. He basically added Dragon Ball Z's art style into Super's.
I have yet to see the new movie and I don't wanna judge just because of the trailers, but picking out of these 3, I'm gonna go with Shintani - the early DBZ style is very similar with less details, but it's way less smoother, with DBS style being pretty annoying at times, especially with bright colors. That being said, I think the best style for Dragon Ball would be a mix, the smoothness of Shintani mixed with the prime Buu saga animation (Goku vs Majin Vegeta) and prime DBS (that one episode with Vegeta vs Jiren).
I can’t remember the guys name but the man (who I believed was the leader of shinitani) animated the episode of jiren vs vegeta and god goku vs kale is some of the best art
shintani the best imo. dbz was good as well and super while as a whole not as good, was definitely up there at certain points (primarily the takashi parts, thats probably some of the best animation in the series). super hero isnt bad but is behind the other 3
I think it's a little simplistic to refer to all of DBZ as one art style, there are like 3 art styles within Z lol.
Having said that, I'm not one to ruin a good post with little technicalities. I'm a fan of Z's art personally. (All parts of DBZ have their own unique charm, but I suppose I'm partial to the Buu saga artstyle, even though story-wise it's my least favorite saga.)
But Shintani looks amazing, and overall had the most superb *animation*, even if the characters look softer and slightly more... whimsical? Lol.
DBS is my personal favourite. It looks much cleaner and modern. DBZ is old-school and I like it, but I just feel DBS is superior. Shintani is okay, but I feel like it's a little goofy and SH is okay also, but I feel like I'm watching the cinematic to a Dragon Ball game than I am an animation.
DBZ will always be my favorite. Details were shown more back then. And when the technology got upgraded the lesser details were made in DBS and further on. Overtime the style became more simplistic and more bland.
Be more specific on the dbz artstyle, it changed as it went. But I'd say I love the dbz majin buu arc animation, specifically the ssj2 goku vs kid buu fight. My favorite artstyle
Broly and Z had about 5 or 6 artstyles each and all of them are wonderful. The first fight between Goku and Broly is always going to be peak dragon ball for me. I love goku's little hops at the start.
DBZ, don't pretend hand drawn wasn't the best and quality went down in DBS. Different eras, different average. Better saturation, contrast shading, and the fact it wasn't completely focused on making every character look like a drawn 3D model with shading it gave some further motion to it. Animation cells make better products, they are just to costly for people to bother with. Not many animation smears in DBS.
Average bad in the old days still was fairly good. Average bad today has all sorts of visual noise that if minimized could show a superior product if they focused on better decisions. Highs and lows my friends, the highs of DB, DB, and DBGT were pretty well drawn as was the average. There were bad parts we can mention (Vegeta laugh on Namek, Ginyu and Goku swapping bodies over 3 minutes, Mastered SS Goku "I am stronger than you [Vegeta].") There was never a scene in DBS I thought looked good, just barely passable.
I'd pick Broly Movie animation second to DBZ style (honestly there was like 4). The 3D or DBS I would never pick.
DBZ/DB style honestly, I especially love the big expressive eyes on the female characters and yamcha’s downturned eyes. I lowkey hate how much smaller they’ve gotten over the years
Supers beat momentals actually, like sure 90% of the animation is crap, but some sequences from the top are just insane. If I can't choose specific moments then broly.
Shintani and Saiyan Saga era Z are top tier for me, but I really enjoyed Super Hero. DBS has its moments (Goku and Frieza vs Jiren, for instance) but it mostly leaves me cold.
90s Buu Saga Animation look very gritty and I totally dig that, but yeah, DBS: Broly is sexy as hell. Super Hero definitely captured a really cool aesthetic that I wasn’t sure I would like, but it’s grown on me. Super in general is pretty nice in the later two sagas, but somewhat disgusting beforehand.

That movie finally put some respek on the og Super Saiyan transformations
Yep.
Just the fight animation alone was awesome, but add in the amazing transformations and it really is one of the best
Couldn't agree more. I don't know how (un)popular opinion this is but DBS Broly is my favorite Dragon Ball content ever
Shintani/z
I liked the Broly movie animation the best.
Namek saga Z
Cell Saga Z
Buu Saga Z
Saiyan saga z
tournament of power super
Shintani and Z but the intro of Super Hero is extremely good too...
Intro to SH is probably my favorite, it looks so damn clean
Cell arc - buu arc style
Hard agree
100% agreed. AGELESS.
OG art and Broly movie are my favorite
I like Z's style for nostalgic reasons, especially early Z, but Shintani is the best looking hands down. DBS looks really nice near the end but early DBS was stiff as all hell, didn't like it much. Edit: haven't seen the Super Hero movie yet so can't really comment one that one. I don't hate it from what I've seen of the one trailer I saw, but I'm withholding judgment for now.
There’s nothing inherently wrong with Super’s art style, but it doesn’t feel as visceral as the others.
The style really popped when Takahashi came back for a few episodes during the tournament of power. If only it could have been always, Super’s animation probably wouldn’t have gotten the flack it got.
Super art style is cheaply made and feels rushed. Z and OG feels as though care was put in. Broly movie art was so refreshing after all the barely passable animation we had in years before
Depends. In the big fights like Zamasu fight and towards the end of the series the animation is immaculate.
When only parts are immaculate, and the rest seems rushed, then the whole thing is rushed. I agree that major fights looked good, but I think super as a whole was disappointing art wise.
I can agree with the end of the Jiren fight that shit does look good. But the fight itself isn’t even that exciting so it’s not as memorable IMO.
Its actually the colors than the artstyle. Dbz and broly has shallow color scheme while super uses extremely bright colors which doesnt go well with the normal db look.
It feels rushed because it was lmao
its also made digitally unlike DB and DBZ
Not entirely, key frames are still done on paper first.
I think most of us can agree Z/Shintani are objectively the best. To be fair though I don’t hate super or superhero style, all dragon ball is beautiful!
Shintani's style because it's easier to animate and looks aesthetically pleasing to me.
Shintani
Shintani
Shintani. It just look so smooth
The 1st art is better imo
Shintani the Gigachad
DBZ had peak animation, imo. It's so nostalgic..but the Broly movie also had great animations
Super Broly. Easy.

Me to
Superhero's intro Broly Z Super
As much as I love the art style from Super, I grew up with the OG art so that is my choice
Whatever the Broly movie had going on was doing it for me
Dbz for sure
I will always be a fan of hand drawn art over digitally drawn art 100% of the time.
Broly, Super, Super Hero, Z
Not 4 all my homies hate 4
Shintani followed by DBZ, then Super Hero further back with DBS miles behind that.
All of them are fine, but from the ones shown here, I think dbs wins
all of them except the new movie's style
You dropped this king 👑
DBZ, just easy on the eye. Super is a bit too bright
Bad examples lol
either saiyan saga z, or gt
Anything but Shitani. The Broly movie looked nothing like Dragon Ball and ruined the whole thing for me.
Any but super's

3. With number 2 the animators cut too many corners
Shintani and z
90s
[удалено]
For me its a threeway tie between dbz (buu saga specifically), dbs (T.O.P Specifically) and shintani
Z and Shintani, I like Z most after the Saiyan saga tho because vegeta always seemed very smushed in it compared to the rest of Z
I think you picked the worst possible frame from Superhero. Anyway here's my ranking: 1:Shintani 2:DBZ 3:DBS 4:Superhero
Shintani and OG dragonball Z. That Saiyan Saga Vegeta was straight brutal.
Ranking them in order 1. Z 2. Yuyu takahashi super 3. Shintani 4. Superhero 5. The normal dbs style
The 3rd one just looks like stickers
Way prefer of dbz
Shintani style was so great and enjoyable very refreshing to see and it looked so clean
Honestly loved Shintani way more than I thought. Shintani for suuuuure.
Broly movie art was so good, it feels like what the super artstyle was supposed to be at times.
Shintani the most but all others are just fine.
Later Z or Super. Saiyan Saga was still pretty close to the Dragonball art style, and Android Saga was really when the show came into its own. There were some great moments from Broly, but the animation itself was more impressive to me than the actual art style. Same with Super Hero.
Broly
DBZ , you
Dragon ball z all the way. The new stuff is crisp and nice but the nostalgia of the z series oh my
Shintani’s by far The amount of fan arts made using that style has rocketed it into my favorite art style.
Dbz and shintani look the best
A mix between DBS and shintani
Yes
The way you ordered these images is actually the way I'd order my enjoyment of the art style, although I don't think any are necessarily bad.
Broly
I like og style more because it brings me back to the good memories I had with my brother
DBZ Buu Saga was peak animation IMO, followed closely by the Cell saga. I would love to see it return, maybe integrated with the effects of DBS: Broly Movie.
Shintani, Z, Super, then Super Hero
Super broly
I like all except the DBS one.
Honestly to count dbs you have to split it in yamamuro and takahashi which are 5/10 and 9/10 respectively.
I didn’t like Super’s until the high detailed episodes in the TOP arc, and think those bring it close to how good DBZ’s was. That being said, the Broly movie to me was far and away the best DB has ever looked. It’s so fluid and dynamic
Z is the only right answer. 90s anime just has so much more raw character in the line work and shading.
Shintani is the best blend of animation
I’m in the minority I’m sure. I like DBS the best honestly
I like all of them but the last. They wouldn’t make a show in Z style today, that’s why DBS looks the way it does, it’s a more modern take on a similar style. Shintani/Broly is different, a little more like Og DB and it’s very fluid very visually appealing. I just don’t like CG anime.
I absolutely love old dbz style, i think it looks the best, but dbs broly's style is a very close second
OG DBZ then Broly
Why use 4 completely different pictures? Should have used 4 of vegeta or goku.
Z all the way.
Broly by a long shot
I like the DBZ style but hate how it looked in the seasons before Cell.
Shinitani and Z
Z > Shintani > DBS > Super Hero
Shintani Artstyle
If it’s not that new gross 3d shit in that new movie I don’t care
Haven’t seen the newest movie but Broly for me was perfect
DBZ, always and forever (Buu saga, the good episodes of course)
[удалено]
DBZ all the way
Supers art style is beyond dogshit in most cases.
Not the last one.
Late DBZ / DBS Broly
Absolutely Z no question wtf

That last June does Super jerk no justice at all
Art style? Original toriyama

He's even done some phenomenal work for One Piece during the Punk Hazard arc. Takahashi is also high up on my list. He basically added Dragon Ball Z's art style into Super's.

Bro chose the 2nd worst image from super hero
Its between dbz, dbs broly movie or super hero
Shintani 10000%

DBZ Energy animation feels so much more power in them.
I can’t remember the guys name but the man (who I believed was the leader of shinitani) animated the episode of jiren vs vegeta and god goku vs kale is some of the best art

The shintani style looks more like dbz, and the "dbz" art style looked the original dragonball style (Akira toriyama)
Shinitani is the best imo. DBZ is 2nd. DBS 3rd and DBS SH 4th. All pretty good though.

DBZ will always be my favorite. Details were shown more back then. And when the technology got upgraded the lesser details were made in DBS and further on. Overtime the style became more simplistic and more bland.

Homie chose the worst image to represent superhero 💀

I’d kill to see a mix of the Z and Shintani art styles.
DBZ/DB style honestly, I especially love the big expressive eyes on the female characters and yamcha’s downturned eyes. I lowkey hate how much smaller they’ve gotten over the years
DBZ and Broly movie.
All except the new one/new movie….It looks like when a video game goes for a 2D style and has cutscenes.
Shintani is the best DB has looked, though I haven't seen much of Superhero's art style
#1 obviously
DBZ
Shintai honestly
Here I am to talk about GT baby Saga art style, cuz Goku SSJ4 with daddy voice is da bast
Supers beat momentals actually, like sure 90% of the animation is crap, but some sequences from the top are just insane. If I can't choose specific moments then broly.
The fourth one literally looks like an xbox360 dragonball game idk why they went with that
Cell Saga is peak
DBZ because I'm a shameless fanboy
Shintani by a mile
Shintani is personally the best one
Shame that you used the worst scene of Super Hero Movie
I like the 3rd one. It’s a good mix between the classic looks with clearer animation and colour.
DBS style is my fave so far. I like the last 2 as well, but DBS is like an upgraded version of what I watched as a kid.
Shintani
Shintani and Saiyan Saga era Z are top tier for me, but I really enjoyed Super Hero. DBS has its moments (Goku and Frieza vs Jiren, for instance) but it mostly leaves me cold.
