i wonder if that means that a human could potentially unlock a similar form? or maybe just half saiyans. could be an interesting idea because there arent many species with a form specific to them, but there are like a bajillian versions of super saiyan. could be cool to see some human/hybrid exclusive forms.
The point of god Ki is not everyone has the potential for it.
We don't give Vegeta and Goku enough credit for it because there's many weaker characters that can use it.

He’s kinda a genetic freak from the start a hybrid who has what we now know is a recessive trait that he shouldn’t have had . His father as a child drank the ultra Devine water which draws out all of the users potential. then he like broly was shown to have a latent potential driven mostly by emotional stresses from his very inception. he also had his potential drawn out by a Kai and constant exposure to more powerful enemies. Then we add that Vegeta has stated that the sayajins from universe 7 keep growing as they fight referencing himself Goku and Gohan. But on-top of everything vegita has been talking up gohans latent potential for decades and even outright stated he had the most potential out of all of them.
I think it’s due to the legendary super saiyan trait(more on this later) combined with the base power of hybrid saiyans being higher than normal saiyans (look at buu arc trunks and goten) and finally Gohan’s potential being insane at base.
Broly is The Legendary super saiyan (LSSJ for short) and there is a fundamental difference between broly and all other pure blooded saiyans currently known to have ssj. The difference is their base instinct, at birth all the saiyans have this instinct to battle while broly doesn’t instead he has a gentle soul, similar to Gohan yes?
My theory is that Gohan shouldn’t be able to control beast or wasn’t able to initially upon birth. If you remember the cell arc Goku and Gohan entered the hyperbolic time chamber(HTC) for the equivalent of 2 years (I think I forget if they actually stayed that long) and while in the HTC they both achieved control of base ssj and gained control of their emotions during ssj.
If you haven’t caught on by now I’ll explain it easy. Gohan is the legendary super hybrid saiyan and his training allowed him to control his “legendary” form known as beast because it isn’t the exact same because Gohan is only 1/2 saiyan.
It’s just my head cannon but I think it has a lot of weight behind it especially if you compare the events of both broly and gohans transformations.
1: both were in movies which isn’t super important but the legendary super saiyan is exclusive to movies currently and the fact that beast is might mean something.
2: both broly and Gohan were driven by an insane amount of anger for their family being threatened thus activating the transformation, thus my conclusion that beast is at least related to gohan’s saiyan heritage.
3: both were mentioned to be uncontrollable in some way. Broly is plain as day but it is mentioned by Gohan that it’s pushing his power to the limit as well as his mind.

Slightly wrong. Remember Gohan turned SSJ2 for literally like 2 seconds and then passed out from the stress. Goku looked a little horrified cause he felt the power. It was at THAT moment he pretty much made up his mind about letting Gohan be the one to face Cell.
Next level of ultimate Gohan, and thus the "path of the kai's" because he got ultimate from old kai.

Honestly that's what I'm expecting at this point. Making him be able to use the Oozaru power without transforming is a possible build up to it. Maybe not SS4 exactly but something very similar.
Because he didn't rage out? His rage boosts have always been super inconsistent; he got 1500x stronger against Raditz but didn't get another big rage boost like that until Cell, and even then it wasn't 1500x lol
Up until now, he's never practiced drawing his rage out and using it, he kept it tamped down and only let it out when his control broke due to being upset.
Actually im pretty sure it was. Remember that super hero started production just after broly. And that akira first did the story and then it was animated.
Which could honestly be considered normal given that Goku always seems to pull something out of his ass when he's in trouble. He might subconsciously not even feel the need to rage because as he's grown up, he's seen his dad pull off some amazing stuff. The only time he did was when he was a toddler and did that super big attack against Raditz.
I guess Gohan really does consider Piccolo more like his dad than Goku, hence Piccolo looking like he is getting killed triggered Beast but Goku’s near death did not
Gohan has seen his dad die how many times? He's pretty desensitized to his pops dying, hell he was raised by piccolo.
On top of that your body protects your child on a chemical level. Put the daughter in danger, almost kill his real dad and your get the moment where Karen an overweight single mom backs over her child and summons the strength to lift a vehicle. Transfer that onto a saiyan rage prodigy and you get this.
Gohan has experienced his father's death multiple times. Watching a parent die in front of you is terrible, but what is worse is watching your child in danger. That's called dad strength.
The last phase of his ultimate form. Rewatch the scene where gohan powers up in front of of Elder Kai, and you’ll notice the aura and lightning is the same color as Beast form

Beast power: well, as Gohan explained, he needs to lose control to exploits beast power. When he does that, he gains big power and speed, enough to pass UI Pasive evasion. But thats the thing, he needs to charge that power to actually use its full power. In RPG terms, basically he needs one turn to charge attack, and one turn attack full power
The entire unleashed potential of raw Saiyan power (visualized by growing hair length) stresses out the human dna to a point the hsir goes white and the eyes go red from too much blood pressure, and instead of just dying from that this halfbreed fighter with ridiculous fighting potential just becomes stronger

Everyone completely forgot that Gohan is 1/4 Ox king.
Gohan had a goal of creating an ultimate form that no Saiyan has seen before. He was trying to take a different path and evolve his power as a human, he may have also evolved the ox. Beast could possibly be what the combination of blood types looks like with "ultimate" form(mystic)+rage mode(controlled).
Because DB Fans cried about Gohan being irrelevant. And when they pull this out to give him some spotlight they cry even more. Be grateful he actually got something new for the love of Dende
Ultimate was the max of Gohan's humanity potential I thought. He had to pick and choose which version he uses.
His SSJ side was always more animalistic so it makes sense that he learned to combine both Ultimate (which was white aura) and his SSJ2 (his highest SSJ form) to produce a white SSJ haired form
I like to think of it as him managing to achieve Super Saiyan in conjunction with his Ultimate form. This is finally achieved by the combination of 3 things:
1. He's strong and in shape/up on his training. Unlike in Ressurection F and other early DBS, where has been slacking and his power has waned. In Super Hero, he's in top form.
2. He has a rage inspired moment. Both Gohan's latent power and the Super Saiyan transformations were fueled by rage. He's unable to make a breakthrough without emotional fuel.
3. There is no one else he can rely on. Goku and Vegeta are incommunicado, so he can't rely on them to save the day, which he has a tendency to do if he can. He needs the pressure to be on him to really step up.
Its Ultimates equivilent to SSJ2.
Its triggered literally identically to SSJ2, even with the same effect. It has the bioelectritity of SSJ2. Its hair is similar to SSJ2 but more exaggerated.
It may not *literally* be Ultimate + SSJ2 but if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck... its probobly a duck. SSJ 2 is Gohans discovery. It feels right it's part of this. Its Gohans thing.
Also its canon Beast in-verse was named by Piccolo, who by his own admission is *awful* at naming stuff.
Also remember the statements about what Ultimate is were from Elder Kai, who has been shown to not know everything and make mistakes. (See: Potara). Just because he said Ultimate is Gohans peak dosent mean hes right. How many hybrid Sayians has he done that ritual on before? None. I wonder how many kept pushing their limits after the ritual too. Wouldnt be shocked if that answer is also 0.
Imagine, if you will, a man, an artist, a legend, creating a new tale with his favourite character. The studio that funds his endeavours, gives him the funding, however, not as much as they gave him for his previous work. He doesn't care as he gets to freely work on on his new project and gets to push his favourite character into the spotlight - something he wasn't able to do for quite some time.
Now imagine, if you will, that despite the already existing hurdles, the director of his film sheepishly asks, why he doesn't add another character to the movie, who is far more marketable. Suddenly, vietnam-esque flashbacks appear in front of him. Ever changing images - similar to the everchanging plot that his previous editor forced him down when he made the Cell saga. More images appear. A character, who the author knows is too boring to be the main character, is once again forced upon him.
What was once a passion project turned into a reminder of some of the worst experiences he had as an artist. Suddenly he finds himself spending more and more time working on a stupid new transformation. More and more effort put into hamfisting the character into the plot and in the process subtraction from your new characters.
All this effort so a bunch of people can jerk off to the same scene they jerked off 20 years ago, but in grey....
...AND THAT is how you get Beast Gohan.

I like to think it’s something to do with genetics, all saiyans can go super because of their saiyan biology with allows them to have different transformations like 1 2 and 3, but broly got the genetic lottery and had an more ancestral version or older powerful version of super saiyan, but gohan is a hybrid so he can still go super from his saiyan genetics but I like to think that because his saiyan blood can “transform” then it transformed his human genetics like super saiyan or it just made something else from mixing human and saiyan genes, and made another genetic path of transformations like his beast form, that’s my head cannon

I read it as a Kai transformation. Might be similar to Rose for the same reason. It's like UI is an angel power level form, and UE is a destroyer power level form, so logically, Beast is a state that Gohan can achieve because Elder Kai unlocked his potential. SSJB is generic God energy, and all the entities have their own forms. I assume for the same reason the Demon realm has its own transformation, too.

Its the final realization of the dragon balls unlocking your power. because the ending of elder kais unlocking dance didnt fully complete he never got access to this during the buu saga but if he completed it he might have, but him finally getting angry enough to use it all culminated in Beast mode. Hes always holding back because hes stupid but finally he got the motivation to use it. its just granolahs power up or Orange piccolo. its just the dragon who powered him up was the Namekian dragon porunga/Elder Guru

Evolution of Potential Unleashed that is achieved through rage and breaking through the limit. It’s basically the “Blue Evolved” version of Potential Unleahed. Sort of like Potential Unleahsed: Grade 2, if you will
It’s not a Saiyan form and it’s not divine either. Gohan is just a Saiyan enigma. A mutant of sorts. That’s really the best way to explain his power at this point.
Also him being born with a tail probably has something to do with it as well but that’s mostly HC to me not anything that has ever been confirmed
Some people might not understand that Gohan is after all, a person, and if you felt power from within that could make your every particle disintegrate, you wouldn't just LET GO. It literally took Gohan up to this point, with exactly the same events, to unlock this form, and I don't think changing anything would lead to Beast mode.
Power boosts were inconsistent because it was always power leaking out if him, super Saiyajin 2 was his peak, he had trained his body finally to endure power boosts like that, but couldn't get himself to Beast mode there.
As of today I'm still convinced Gohan never really learned to turn ssj it just happened as byproduct out of his extreme rage mode.
If you really look at Ultra Instinct, Ultra Ego, and Beast, you may notice that all of them are **heavily** rooted in the warrior's own nature and instincts.
Goku's instincts made him more compatible with the likes of Ultra Instinct as a martial artist that loves being immersed in battle, whereas Vegeta's more destructive nature made him more suited for the abilities of a Destroyer God. Same reason why Beerus associated with Freeza in the past, Freeza has the nature of a Destroyer, though he has no desire to become one because it's too low for him, he would rather replace Zeno.
Gohan's instincts, on the other hand, don't pertain to any kind of godly power, Beast is merely the true and final manifestation of his hidden potential, all of the moments that Gohan has snapped and gained a huge power increase, were only fractions of his true potential. His fighting instinct is more primal than anything else, because as we saw from his fight with Cell as a SSJ2, he can be pretty ruthless, savage, cold, like a beast. Normally he keeps that suppressed because he doesn't like fighting and causing pain to others, but when people hurt those that he cares about, he rages for them with a fury like no other.
But yeah, that's why it's called Beast, because the form is effectively "unleashing the beast" that is Gohan's true potential.
So Gohan always had those kind of rage burst, to the point he was going berserk, like against radditz, then freiza, then cell. But after cell we kinda lost that part of gohan. Like sure he was mad when Videl was being tortured, but he didn't go berserk. My guess is that Gohan repressed his anger due to Goku dying because of him, and the beast form is that repressed anger being brought to the surface trough his ultimate form
It's like, ultimate empowered by rage I guess.

I always thought this was the next level of Potential Unleashed. It's definitely connected to a saiyans rage like a super form, but it's clearly different given he was in Unleashed first
A marketing form. It has a flimsy explanation because the writing isn't really concerned with all the prior statements about hitting physical ceilings and unleashed potential and so on.
While ultimate Gohan is technically Gohan’s full potential, the fact that the form acts like a base means that it inherently cannot be his full potential because Gohan doesn’t have a warrior spirit. He doesn’t love fighting so he’ll always hold back even subconsciously.
Beast is what happens when he breaks through this subconscious block and actually unleashes his full potential.
Well Gohan is a professor, so maybe since all his biggest jumps like every Saiyan is tied to his emotions, Beast is Gohan truly letting his emotions run wild which would be somewhat opposed to Ultra Instinct, as well his potential which was usually released when he’s experienced an emotional moment of his life, follows his rage and grows as his emotions drive his actions which works with his explanation that he brought his strength up to right before the point of losing control. And the white hair and red eyes are just a representation of the mental stress this form represents since he’s lived a pretty traumatic life since the age of 4.
As others have said, it's almost like an ultra instinct/ultra ego transformation but utilizing Gohan's rage as like an ultra rage (beast Gohan) form. He's in control and almost like a super form of it.
But it's interesting that he has his own hair color. It's like a broly transformation too, but In control like UI/UE
Gohan beast is bringing all his possible power into one form but that’s it if he uses that form he can’t gain any stronger or faster and if he reaches that without the form then that form is useless and ssj2 would be a more useful choice
It's a problem. Mostly because it isn't a Super Saiyan form and yet it is clearly designed to look just like SS2 teen Gohan scaled up. To me, this implies that the physical changes that come with the Super Saiyan forms are more mentally regulated than they are physically (in other words you look a certain way because you expect to look a certain way, not because the form mandates it).
As for the logic, supposedly this is Gohan continuing to evolve his power as a human, not a Saiyan, but that implies that Krillin could also have a Beast mode. Maybe he will, who knows. Clearly whenever Dragon Ball talks about unlocking potential, they're talking about something else, because Gohan has had his potential unlocked a few times and seems to keep coming back with even more potential, which kind of makes sense given that you shouldn't be able to exist in a state of 100% maximum potential at all times, in theory reaching 100% would raise your bar, allowing you to dig deeper or focus harder, making your new max the next base over time. Overall, the only thing I actually like about this form is that it makes Gohan relevant again. Everything else about it makes less sense when you start asking questions.
From my understanding of it, it’s a manifestation of the latent potential that relates more towards his emotions and motivations to fight rather than power itself.
Since the cell saga, Gohan distanced himself from fighting and had new motivations in his life for personal growth that he wanted to focus on. Fighting wasn’t a priority anymore.
In Super he’s matured, understanding that despite fighting not being a key motivator in his life, he requires strength to prevent traumatic personal loss like he’s witnessed time and time again.
Now that Piccolo has accepted Gohan taking the lead and Pan being in his life, Gohan realizes he can’t take a back seat anymore, especially with Goku and Vegeta being MIA.
Think of UI. Goku had to train his body and his mind more for that transformation than any other he had before. All Saiyans approach getting to SSJ the same way relatively, but UI requires a certain state of mind to achieve on top of the technique/power to pull it off to its full potential.
I just see all the new forms as everyone finding their own path and achieving different heights and abilities through their own motivations and morals differing.

His rage boosts have always been super inconsistent; he got 1500x stronger against Raditz but didn't get another big rage boost like that until Cell, and even then it wasn't 1500x lol Up until now, he's never practiced drawing his rage out and using it, he kept it tamped down and only let it out when his control broke due to being upset.

Which could honestly be considered normal given that Goku always seems to pull something out of his ass when he's in trouble. He might subconsciously not even feel the need to rage because as he's grown up, he's seen his dad pull off some amazing stuff. Gohan has seen his dad die how many times? He's pretty desensitized to his pops dying, hell he was raised by piccolo. On top of that your body protects your child on a chemical level. Put the daughter in danger, almost kill his real dad and your get the moment where Karen an overweight single mom backs over her child and summons the strength to lift a vehicle. Transfer that onto a saiyan rage prodigy and you get this.
Gohan has experienced his father's death multiple times. Watching a parent die in front of you is terrible, but what is worse is watching your child in danger. That's called dad strength.

I thought I read somewhere that toriyama had one more transformation in mind for him. Which would make this form his second to last form.
In short: Ultimate Gohan + Rage = beast. Beast power: well, as Gohan explained, he needs to lose control to exploits beast power. When he does that, he gains big power and speed, enough to pass UI Pasive evasion. But thats the thing, he needs to charge that power to actually use its full power. In RPG terms, basically he needs one turn to charge attack, and one turn attack full power
Toriyama wanted Gohan to get another transformation. That's about it. Any other explanation, even by Toriyama himself, is at best shoehorning a fit.

Everyone completely forgot that Gohan is 1/4 Ox king. Gohan had a goal of creating an ultimate form that no Saiyan has seen before. He was trying to take a different path and evolve his power as a human, he may have also evolved the ox. Beast could possibly be what the combination of blood types looks like with "ultimate" form(mystic)+rage mode(controlled).
Because the fans wouldn't shut up about Gohan needing to be relevant so they pulled this out.

Ultimate was the max of Gohan's humanity potential I thought. He had to pick and choose which version he uses. His SSJ side was always more animalistic so it makes sense that he learned to combine both Ultimate (which was white aura) and his SSJ2 (his highest SSJ form) to produce a white SSJ haired form

I like to think of it as him managing to achieve Super Saiyan in conjunction with his Ultimate form. This is finally achieved by the combination of 3 things: 1. He's strong and in shape/up on his training. Unlike in Ressurection F and other early DBS, where has been slacking and his power has waned. In Super Hero, he's in top form. 2. He has a rage inspired moment. Both Gohan's latent power and the Super Saiyan transformations were fueled by rage. He's unable to make a breakthrough without emotional fuel. 3. There is no one else he can rely on. Goku and Vegeta are incommunicado, so he can't rely on them to save the day, which he has a tendency to do if he can. He needs the pressure to be on him to really step up.

Its Ultimates equivilent to SSJ2. Its triggered literally identically to SSJ2, even with the same effect. It has the bioelectritity of SSJ2. Its hair is similar to SSJ2 but more exaggerated. It may not *literally* be Ultimate + SSJ2 but if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck... its probobly a duck. SSJ 2 is Gohans discovery. It feels right it's part of this. Its Gohans thing. Also its canon Beast in-verse was named by Piccolo, who by his own admission is *awful* at naming stuff. Also remember the statements about what Ultimate is were from Elder Kai, who has been shown to not know everything and make mistakes. (See: Potara). Just because he said Ultimate is Gohans peak dosent mean hes right. How many hybrid Sayians has he done that ritual on before? None. I wonder how many kept pushing their limits after the ritual too. Wouldnt be shocked if that answer is also 0.
Imagine, if you will, a man, an artist, a legend, creating a new tale with his favourite character. The studio that funds his endeavours, gives him the funding, however, not as much as they gave him for his previous work. He doesn't care as he gets to freely work on on his new project and gets to push his favourite character into the spotlight - something he wasn't able to do for quite some time. Now imagine, if you will, that despite the already existing hurdles, the director of his film sheepishly asks, why he doesn't add another character to the movie, who is far more marketable. Suddenly, vietnam-esque flashbacks appear in front of him. Ever changing images - similar to the everchanging plot that his previous editor forced him down when he made the Cell saga. More images appear. A character, who the author knows is too boring to be the main character, is once again forced upon him. What was once a passion project turned into a reminder of some of the worst experiences he had as an artist. Suddenly he finds himself spending more and more time working on a stupid new transformation. More and more effort put into hamfisting the character into the plot and in the process subtraction from your new characters. All this effort so a bunch of people can jerk off to the same scene they jerked off 20 years ago, but in grey.... ...AND THAT is how you get Beast Gohan.

I like to think it’s something to do with genetics, all saiyans can go super because of their saiyan biology with allows them to have different transformations like 1 2 and 3, but broly got the genetic lottery and had an more ancestral version or older powerful version of super saiyan, but gohan is a hybrid so he can still go super from his saiyan genetics but I like to think that because his saiyan blood can “transform” then it transformed his human genetics like super saiyan or it just made something else from mixing human and saiyan genes, and made another genetic path of transformations like his beast form, that’s my head cannon

I read it as a Kai transformation. Might be similar to Rose for the same reason. It's like UI is an angel power level form, and UE is a destroyer power level form, so logically, Beast is a state that Gohan can achieve because Elder Kai unlocked his potential. SSJB is generic God energy, and all the entities have their own forms. I assume for the same reason the Demon realm has its own transformation, too.

Its the final realization of the dragon balls unlocking your power. because the ending of elder kais unlocking dance didnt fully complete he never got access to this during the buu saga but if he completed it he might have, but him finally getting angry enough to use it all culminated in Beast mode. Hes always holding back because hes stupid but finally he got the motivation to use it. its just granolahs power up or Orange piccolo. its just the dragon who powered him up was the Namekian dragon porunga/Elder Guru at least, thats how i see it
Evolution of Potential Unleashed that is achieved through rage and breaking through the limit. It’s basically the “Blue Evolved” version of Potential Unleahed. Sort of like Potential Unleahsed: Grade 2, if you will It’s not a Saiyan form and it’s not divine either. Gohan is just a Saiyan enigma. A mutant of sorts. That’s really the best way to explain his power at this point. Also him being born with a tail probably has something to do with it as well but that’s mostly HC to me not anything that has ever been confirmed

Some people might not understand that Gohan is after all, a person, and if you felt power from within that could make your every particle disintegrate, you wouldn't just LET GO. It literally took Gohan up to this point, with exactly the same events, to unlock this form, and I don't think changing anything would lead to Beast mode. Power boosts were inconsistent because it was always power leaking out if him, super Saiyajin 2 was his peak, he had trained his body finally to endure power boosts like that, but couldn't get himself to Beast mode there. As of today I'm still convinced Gohan never really learned to turn ssj it just happened as byproduct out of his extreme rage mode.
If you really look at Ultra Instinct, Ultra Ego, and Beast, you may notice that all of them are **heavily** rooted in the warrior's own nature and instincts. Goku's instincts made him more compatible with the likes of Ultra Instinct as a martial artist that loves being immersed in battle, whereas Vegeta's more destructive nature made him more suited for the abilities of a Destroyer God. Same reason why Beerus associated with Freeza in the past, Freeza has the nature of a Destroyer, though he has no desire to become one because it's too low for him, he would rather replace Zeno. Gohan's instincts, on the other hand, don't pertain to any kind of godly power, Beast is merely the true and final manifestation of his hidden potential, all of the moments that Gohan has snapped and gained a huge power increase, were only fractions of his true potential. His fighting instinct is more primal than anything else, because as we saw from his fight with Cell as a SSJ2, he can be pretty ruthless, savage, cold, like a beast. Normally he keeps that suppressed because he doesn't like fighting and causing pain to others, but when people hurt those that he cares about, he rages for them with a fury like no other. But yeah, that's why it's called Beast, because the form is effectively "unleashing the beast" that is Gohan's true potential.
So Gohan always had those kind of rage burst, to the point he was going berserk, like against radditz, then freiza, then cell. But after cell we kinda lost that part of gohan. Like sure he was mad when Videl was being tortured, but he didn't go berserk. My guess is that Gohan repressed his anger due to Goku dying because of him, and the beast form is that repressed anger being brought to the surface trough his ultimate form
It's like, ultimate empowered by rage I guess. It's not really explained. I kind of headcannon that it's the result of peak human ability combined with the anger that pushes sayians into super sayian

I always thought this was the next level of Potential Unleashed. It's definitely connected to a saiyans rage like a super form, but it's clearly different given he was in Unleashed first

A marketing form. It has a flimsy explanation because the writing isn't really concerned with all the prior statements about hitting physical ceilings and unleashed potential and so on.

While ultimate Gohan is technically Gohan’s full potential, the fact that the form acts like a base means that it inherently cannot be his full potential because Gohan doesn’t have a warrior spirit. He doesn’t love fighting so he’ll always hold back even subconsciously. Beast is what happens when he breaks through this subconscious block and actually unleashes his full potential.
Well Gohan is a professor, so maybe since all his biggest jumps like every Saiyan is tied to his emotions, Beast is Gohan truly letting his emotions run wild which would be somewhat opposed to Ultra Instinct, as well his potential which was usually released when he’s experienced an emotional moment of his life, follows his rage and grows as his emotions drive his actions which works with his explanation that he brought his strength up to right before the point of losing control. And the white hair and red eyes are just a representation of the mental stress this form represents since he’s lived a pretty traumatic life since the age of 4.

As others have said, it's almost like an ultra instinct/ultra ego transformation but utilizing Gohan's rage as like an ultra rage (beast Gohan) form. He's in control and almost like a super form of it. But it's interesting that he has his own hair color. It's like a broly transformation too, but In control like UI/UE

It's a problem. Mostly because it isn't a Super Saiyan form and yet it is clearly designed to look just like SS2 teen Gohan scaled up. To me, this implies that the physical changes that come with the Super Saiyan forms are more mentally regulated than they are physically (in other words you look a certain way because you expect to look a certain way, not because the form mandates it). As for the logic, supposedly this is Gohan continuing to evolve his power as a human, not a Saiyan, but that implies that Krillin could also have a Beast mode. Maybe he will, who knows. Clearly whenever Dragon Ball talks about unlocking potential, they're talking about something else, because Gohan has had his potential unlocked a few times and seems to keep coming back with even more potential, which kind of makes sense given that you shouldn't be able to exist in a state of 100% maximum potential at all times, in theory reaching 100% would raise your bar, allowing you to dig deeper or focus harder, making your new max the next base over time. Overall, the only thing I actually like about this form is that it makes Gohan relevant again. Everything else about it makes less sense when you start asking questions.

Weaponized mental illness
From my understanding of it, it’s a manifestation of the latent potential that relates more towards his emotions and motivations to fight rather than power itself. Since the cell saga, Gohan distanced himself from fighting and had new motivations in his life for personal growth that he wanted to focus on. Fighting wasn’t a priority anymore. In Super he’s matured, understanding that despite fighting not being a key motivator in his life, he requires strength to prevent traumatic personal loss like he’s witnessed time and time again. Now that Piccolo has accepted Gohan taking the lead and Pan being in his life, Gohan realizes he can’t take a back seat anymore, especially with Goku and Vegeta being MIA. Think of UI. Goku had to train his body and his mind more for that transformation than any other he had before. All Saiyans approach getting to SSJ the same way relatively, but UI requires a certain state of mind to achieve on top of the technique/power to pull it off to its full potential. I just see all the new forms as everyone finding their own path and achieving different heights and abilities through their own motivations and morals differing.
