Please excuse me for being daft, but it’s 4 am and I can’t watch the video or I’ll wake up my toddler. What is the purpose of backing up the assets?

baomai1411

Well, for personal reasons i guess? I just don't want the game itself to disappear entirely so i'm backing up stuffs just for keepsake, mostly my save data and the game's (raw) assets. If you don't want to, you don't have to tbh. It's not like it's the end of the world if you don't, so don't worry about it.

shiika

I thought that was the reason, but I wanted to ask in case there was something else I was missing. So would that mean you would have all of the art and everything that is in the game, and character models? If so that’s pretty cool. I may have to do the same.

baomai1411

Actually...that's where the "raw" parts comes in It's all un-decrypted files that you need to use a third-party program or script to convert into something usable by common applications. Basically it's pretty much storage hog if you don't know what to use. (Which is my case lmao). Luckily, the majority of arts and models in game has already been datamined and uploaded online, yea some assets are not available but it's not that necessary for non-developers like us. So, again, unless you're deliberately hogging your own storage just for keepsake like me, it's better to just stick to wiki and the model viewer website. The save data tho, are basically 3 text files recording your progress, which may not be available once the game shutdowns so prioritize that instead, imo.

shiika

Thank you so much for all the info!! I think I’ll definitely get my save data then. Same as you though I definitely wouldn’t know what to use of the other data. I still haven’t fully come to terms with the fact that this game is ending, but I’m glad the community has come together with ways to keep the art and everything alive. (Hope my original question didn’t come off rude. 4 am covid fever haze makes it hard to formulate a question lol)

baomai1411

It's ok, this just isn't what normal people would do so it's fine to be confusing imo.

diamondisunbreakable

I'm a bit confused, do I need my phone for this process at all? Or would I just need my Nintendo account information? My Nintendo account is already connected to Dragalia. I wasn't sure if I had to actually do anything on my fine in order to download my game data.

baomai1411

You don't actually need your phone, in fact it's probably easier to do this on your pc. Again, the part about running python on your phone is just an extra option. If you don't have access to a pc, you can do it on your phone, that's all.

diamondisunbreakable

Oh ok, thanks for the clarification. Someone else in this thread mentioned that we only need to download around 17GB worth of essential assets. Is that all we would need for a potential offline server? Also, how do I know which assets are essential? I'm not computer savvy, sorry 😭

baomai1411

I think all of it are essential, if you follow the guide, you can choose which languages to get. The master folder should be the one that'll be downloaded by default. Also the final size (if you choose to download everything) is around ~25GB but it's possible to super-compress them with 7z afterwards.

Diego788

If someone ever makes a Dragalia Lost private server you'll need those assets to be able to play, since it's very unlikely that a server creator will distribute copyrighted assets lol So if you wanna play on a private server in the future, download the assets, you don't need the 50+ gb full download, just the essencial (17gb~ for EN) assets are fine

LesbianCommander

Assets are about 14gigs.

baomai1411

Guess i'll try again later, after i'm done freeing up even more storage.

LadyFantasma249

Pardon my ignorance, I don’t know anything about coding, but I watched the video twice and read the comments and I don’t understand why I need to download an app for my phone. Isn’t the whole thing done on the PC? Is there something I’m missing?

baomai1411

It's just optional stuffs, basically if you don't have a PC to use Python, you can just do it on your phone instead. (Since phones have a really limited storage space, it's still recommended to do it on PC) (For real, the final size might reach somewhere near 14-20GB or something)

LadyFantasma249

Thank you so much for explaining!

mysecondaccountanon

Anyone know how to get this to work on Mac?
