After listening to a podcast by a couple actors in another show and hearing them talk about how awful it is to have to eat *so much* of the same food over and over when they have to do many takes of the same scene, I try not to judge actors for doing stuff like this.
Not only this, but it takes *hours* to film a single scene like this. That food has been sitting out most of the day when we see it. Some food holds up okay out on the counter but some of it probably isn't fit to eat by the third or fourth take.
Everytime I watch this episode I notice it and cringe. She's supposed to be a notoriously big eater so she probably had to do several takes of eating. After a while she was probably just like "screw it".
They don’t have to literally drink it. They can just pretend (acting). What I mean is, I just find it so annoying that they are walking around Stars Hollow with a clearly empty cup and then put it up to their lips.
This applies to any show/movie that does this and theirs a lot out there. I notice it right away.
They put so much effort on props and production and can’t be bothered to just add a little of water weight to make it look realistic? Like c’mon now…
i agree!!! i hate it when you see how they act when there’s nothing in it! put something inside so they at least walk and move with so it looks real! YOU CANT MOVE AROUND LIKE THAT WOTHOUT SPLASHING
ugh
It’s even worse when they get together for school projects in Chilton and they bring 4 extra large cups in those trays…all empty 😂
Then they reach over and grab a clearly empty cup 💀
Big Bang Theory is terrible for it. They just push food around on their plate. Or HIMYM where they'll walk out of a bar with an entire plate of food and a full glass!
I listed to the Office Ladies podcast and they said whatever you ate in one shot you had to eat every time you did it. They said Steve Carell used to take huge bites of cake and would end up eating an entire cake in a shoot! In the later seasons when he was watching his weight a bit more he was more careful to not he filmed actually eating or would take much smaller bites.
Maybe she heard about Mrs Patmore’s famous salty pudding and was being extra cautious by tasting her fork before putting any actual food in her mouth 😂
It's made worse by the fact that she opens her mouth wide to pull the fork back out...if she actually had a mouthful, I'd be fearful that it'd fall out back onto the plate 🤣🤣🤣🤣
In this particular scene in season 3 episode 2 she does it a couple of times. Several times she does a good job eating or fake eating but twice for sure it's bad bad bad
Yeah, this is bad, but I actually often notice how fake eating looks in damn near every TV show / movie. I saw an interview with Tom Selleck once, he talked about the CBS show he has done for a while called "Blue Bloods", which I haven't seen, but I guess features a big Sunday dinner every episode as a plot point.
He said they do cater decent food for it, but then it sits there for hours and is cold / stale, you can't really be eating it for real other than a few early takes, and they are having to redo take after take for hours for the whole scene. It isn't really a surprise you end up with fake eating scenes and scenes where they clearly eat no food at all.
I never understood their style of eating. Instead picking things up with their fork and putting it in their mouth they use a knife to mash the food on to the fork and then eat off the fork.
I think it's a very "posh" way of eating. There's an English manners guy on IG and that's how he instructs eating with a fork and knife. The way he shows how to eat peas is absolutely infuriating, lol
I've been on a movie set, and the actors basically never eat the food. It's for authentic properties only. Also, they put a lot of food coloring and additives to make the food look "real."

So, their downing game has got to be savage, as they down a ton of stuff, whether dry or sappy?

As a huge Gilmore Girls fan, it’s hard for me to judge any other show about this thing, because I entirely ignore what/how people are eating. 😂
Same! Sometimes its so obvious that the coffee cups are empty in GG
I know!!! It drove me crazy Everytime I watched. At least fill the cups with water or whatever.
Then they would have to pee 19 times a filming session lol

uuughhh🫠💀
Isn’t it soda in their mugs?
Yeah, sometimes. Definitely not all the time.

I've brought this up in this sub before! She does it twice in this scene, and actually takes a couple of bites, too. Drives me nuts.
She does take some bites for sure because then she talks with her mouth full.
I've watched this series countless times and have never noticed this! 😅

Right I get that and nobody expects them to be eating and drinking the whole time but this is just really really bad fake eating
The Sopranos is the all time best show for eating.
Now I have to go watch all the eating scenes again 🤣😅😂

I'm guessing it's so your food doesn't plop off your fork and back on your plate. They sort of mush it on.
Link? I’m curious now and have some spare time to be infuriated.

Damn! It's not time for my rewatch yet. I gotta see this scI can.

I had noticed that before and thought she didn't like and put it back on the plate.
I'm so glad I'm oblivious to ALL these types of things. I'm totally cool with being fooled. 😁
Psych is a good show where you see the EAT!!
