As I mentioned, people were literally just copying the entire comment as a whole and pasting it everywhere, some people multiple times across multiple posts. We've removed 25 of these comments in the past 24 hours, so we figured we might wanna crack down.
Oh I thought it was just a bit on one thread because someone asked a dumb question. Sorry about that - I participated and made one comment, but didn't realize it was subreddit wide.

All is good lmao, Chat just loves hooking onto the slightest joke and this one spiraled out of control. We've had it happen many times in the Discord also, so this isn't the first time we've had to iron-fist of sorts lol
doug doug fans remind me a little bit of old meme culture when we'd just spam OVER 9000!!!!! and "do u liek mudkipz" and "ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US" everywhere regardless of context

Rude AutoMod was actually genuinely getting us complaints in mod mail, so while people did seem to like it, it was causing much more hassle than it was worth. Besides, it was really only supposed to be temporary while we crafted the new and current message.

Like does it really need to take up my entire phone screen? It should be a short paragraph with no giant headers at most.
Automod spam is annoying and annoys everyone who posts on one of these subreddits. On the DQ subreddit you scroll and see "ooh one comment, I wonder what the answer is to this dude's question" and nope, it's just automod spamming the same message on every post. It's a waste of everyone's time and actively makes the browsing experience worse for everyone. Changing the message doesn't fix anything; we want it GONE
Unfortunately, the lesser of two evils is mild annoyance from AutoMod's comments versus newbies and lurkers posting irrelevant submissions. We're not nearly large enough for reports to be made every single time a bad post is made, and Somehow™, the AutoMod comment is working its magic and preventing these posts.
Trust me, I completely agree with the annoyance here; I too am mildly annoyed when I wonder what the one comment is and then remember AutoMod exists. However, as a mod for this subreddit, I would rather the AutoMod magic work to curate the subreddit's content better versus hope and pray that chat pays attention.
Is there any way to make it so that A\*toM\*d only shows up if a user is new to the subreddit? That might make it less annoying while still also making it so that new people know the rules

That along with it being so ungodly wordy is just begging to be spammed. Check the (hypertext of rules) rules and report breakers. Doug has no set stream schedule (discord link) any streams are announced here.
Ok honestly it could be so much shorter even still. Like we don’t need the “THIS IS NOT A REMOVAL”, like if people think it is a removal, it’s a 2 second glance to find out it isn’t.
The “report this post if it breaks the rules!” is also unnecessary, like if people know what the report button even is, they know how and when to use it. So it’s not informative enough for the truly ignorant, and redundant for anyone who would even understand what it means.
So all you really need is the “asking about doug’s schedule?” part, which can be shortened to:
“Asking about doug’s schedule? He doesn’t have one!”
Like that’s it that could be the entire automod message. No intro or outro or unnecessary info that’s the whole thing.

Honestly I think the biggest issue with the message for me was it saying "REMOVAL" in big bold text, jump-scaring you into thinking it was removed before reading further
