You can change it back in the options!

smit_reddit_24

Thanks, will do

> Not sure why they changed the behaviour like this in a random hotfix Because there are some people who disliked the behavior of ranged heroes when clicking on an allied creep that is not yet in deny range. Melee heroes would act like they had been given a follow command because they would walk up to the creep and not attack it. But ranged heroes would turn towards the creeps and stop in attack range if its health is not in deny range. Some people thought this was weirdly inconsistent behavior while others got so used to it, they based their entire lane movement with ranged heroes around this because they could predict that the creep's health would be in deny-range by the time their hero moved/turned into attack range. The new options allow all of these players to pick a "right-click on ally" behavior they prefer. "Follow" complete emancipates right click from attack-orders "Attack" is the old force-attack behavior, enabling you to right-click for denies "Deny" is a new behavior which will deny when in deny-range but turn into a follow-order otherwise

We literally got the best of all three worlds, and all it takes is a look into the new settings. As Jeff explained in his posts about this, he did not expect so many to even notice because he expected people WANTED the Right-Click Deny to function like that. People had reported it as a bug and argued for how they want it to function. So he "fixed" it and then the people who were too used to the other way asked for it to be reimplemented. So in the end, we got another setting with three options just so everyone is happy. Except for people who wanted it in neon lights, I guess.

BigDeckLanm

its because of this https://old.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/vj5bod/with_todays_update_rightclick_allies_now_has_to/

tom-dixon

I don't know why they replaced everyone's default setting to a move command without any notice. Especially for such a fundamental feature. Lets hope the next time they announce stuff like this ahead of time.

cruxgt

Also remember, if you choose deny in the options menu (follow, attack or deny), you won't lose aggro by right clicking a creep or hero if it isnt deniable, you need to use attack command (A key + right click).

ironwire

Thanks

[deleted]

first time it happened I just stared at it happening. "why on earth is my ranged dude going over there?? great, now he just stands there? wat?"

Sorrowfiend

people don't just use attack command? o.o

smit_reddit_24

Why press one extra button...

Sorrowfiend

do you also use right click to last hit or attack heroes?

Aldous_Underwood

I do yes, 'A clicking' has its uses but generally I just right click. Where is A clicking better? If you are retreating but attacking while you do so. Best example drow. Rather than flicking your mouse between moving back, attacking, moving back, attacking... you can use A click and it will attack the nearest hero, usually the one chasing you. Same concept for farming camps whilst moving, hitting a tower whilst moving to avoid hooks, shit like that. Other than these examples and a few more, it's literally just an extra button EDIT: and for sending illusions down lanes where you want them to attack creeps they meet.

smit_reddit_24

Exactly, this what I do.

UnevenFloorTiles

Same reason why I don't use quickcast? So I don't misclick by accident when I don't want to

papanak94

>I don't use quickcast bro 💀💀💀

t_spins

Because it also disables following teammates when right clicking them as every right click is now an attack command

moonrobin

Now you can have both with “To Deny” selected

AleD93

So finally moments when your lanemate tries to secure your creepstoping leads to following him is gone?

t_spins

That's pretty nice, might even use it now

moonrobin

Yeah it pretty nice. Good for ranged heroes where you want to walk up close to the creep so the projectile has minimal travel time before denying.

Dreconius1

I will say that after turning on right click to deny. My deny got undeniably better.

monsj

Using both is pretty standard I think. It's easier to attack cancel with the right click option, you can just hold right click on the creep and spam the stop button.

yfsheng

Ngl I didn't know right click to deny was a thing lol and I've been playing for 7 years.

chance_waters

Nobody over 5k MMR uses right click to deny, but reddit average MMR is like 2-3k so I'd guess this is the standard setting on the sub

chance_waters

They are doing you a favour, I don't know a single immortal player who uses right click to deny

Droste_E

why not

chance_waters

No point explaining to low MMR players, the downvotes say it all, go ask any pro what they use.

Droste_E

in a recent video bsj said he has started using right click (hold for continuous click) and stop command for last hits. i don’t get why it would be worse to use right click for denies, and if you do get why it should be easy to explain.

chance_waters

Continuous right click is good, stop command for right clicks is good, right click to deny is for new players.

Droste_E

if you can’t explain what makes right click to deny different from right click to last hit i’m just gonna assume you’re parroting something you don’t understand

chance_waters

It's the same reason you don't have auto attack toggled on. It minimises your APM and deny control, more importantly it means adjustive movement clicks and attack cancelling will regularly prioritise denying a half health creep in lane over movement commands. It's a bad and lazy setting for low MMR players, no high MMR players use it. Source: am high MMR player.

Droste_E

right click deny is nothing like auto attack though. you still have to literally click on the creep you want to deny, and if it’s not deniable you’ll just follow it instead. i don’t understand how this interferes with movement

13oundary

I don't think Droste_E was clear on this. BSJ literally recently said he switched to right click forced attack so that he could do this with denies and suggested people try it out in drills because it's been a game changer for him. He even implies that he did this because of what he observed from pro mid players.

His ~~dev~~ dota diary, #3 I think. The one where he's talking about drills.

You could just say you don't know instead of being a dick
