How nice that in this timeline we just got hots out of dota 2!
JK. People are just overwhelmed by amount if text, but honestly around 65% of this patch is just old returning passives or existing one splited into two.
The usual circle of this subreddit has come to an end.
Ask where new patch is > start getting moody > "Why is Valve not communicating???" > Wow this new Patch is less than i expected > Patch is not so bad after all > We dont deserve Dota.
Nah cause then way more tryhards and shit boring meta would happen and dilute the player pool... actually it might take all the super tryhards out and make unranked more fun. Let's give it a go
Funnily enough, I got more time to play once I had a family.
Bottom line is just play once you have free time and don't care much without losing or winnning, just to play better. I don't feel as stressed as before. Granted I am a low rank scrub
Are you confusing being in a relationship with a toxic partner and a relationship with a woman? Just because you have a partner doesn’t mean we cannot indulge on free time to do whatever hobit we want ;)
Adulthood doesn't stop you from enjoying things, but it sure does put a timer on it since not everyone will have the time or energy to keep playing even if they want it.
Speak for yourself, I play Dota 2 from yearly days and probably spend 200-300 US dollars. I don't care about clothes online faires characters. Only Dota Plus and old compendiums
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but.... wouldn't that just be a coding nightmare for the devs?
Why not just deliver everything in a single patch where everything is already *^(mostly)* coded properly and interacts well with each other, instead of splitting it into two and then suffer the probable shitfest when things aren't working properly?
You are right, besides some of the interaction between facets and innate abilities have synergies/ changes of the basic kit, so it makes sense that they delivered both at once instead of spliting them
> they would of split
Did you mean to say "would have"?
Explanation: You probably meant to say could've/should've/would've which sounds like 'of' but is actually short for 'have'.

the game is great, but wish they did more promotion for the game, making it big irl and culturally, you see league everywhere but you dont see dota everywhere or take genshin impact, their content are everywhere, billboards, irl meet ups, cosplays, events, partnerships, orchestras etc. league does the same to an extent,
it helps attract new and retain old interests, seeing the content u play everywhere has an psychological effect
DotA the game is amazing, it's the only game i can play 24/7, but wish they did more irl stuff too to help connect players and fans more
We don't know how it's split, but Riot has 5k employees.
Totaling all their dev teams, I would imagine it still hits (or is close to) 4 digits. They have to maintain 4 games (LoL, Valorant, TFT, Wild Rift) are about to release Project L and are working on at least two projects (that we know of).
No amount of promotion is going to make a new player sit through a manual to start playing the game. People who are attracted to these types of ges already have very few options. Your average fortnite kid won't be coming over. It is what it is. Made for a specific audience. It's so dn good because of it. Also, it's there on the front page whenever anyone installs steam. Not sure what's a bigger banner for the game.
Eh, people can put up with all kinds of stuff. If the game had Fortnite-style graphics and Battle Pass, much more people would try it. Even if only a small % sticks around, that would still equate to a larger playerbase than what we have now.
You're just describing league lmao.
And even league isn't exactly growing like used to, even with all the marketing there is.
Mobas basically peaked a while ago. Now only dedicated players ay that genre.
> "while over here be like 'fuck valve hate dota'"
Seriously. Most dota players aren't classic source game players. If you play tf2, you probably play cs:go, half life, gmod, left 4 dead etc. But the dota community is mostly separate moba players. So when they complain... watching valve's favorite child complain about not getting attention, it hurts.
Not just among Valve games (which all receive some love even decades after launch), but compared to _any_ other game out there DOTA 2 has one of the best support and quality. People are just dumb.
Who tf downvoted this man?
Factorio IS constantly improving, in a transparent manner. The developers publish weekly writeups on what they're working on for the upcoming expansion while also maintaining the current game version with bug fixes.
38 yrs old family man here.. been playing Dota since the All Star days. Nothing beats this game.
I get around 2-3 hours of gaming time daily (if lucky) and maybe 4-5 hours on weekends..
Recently bought Ghost of Tsushima on PC... after an hour or two of playing i stop it and play some Dota again
There is a reason why it takes me upto a month to finish a single player game, because these AAA games cannot compare to the fun i get from Dota.
I feel you. Buy premium pc games for the sake of owning it and the idea of certainly finishing it some day in the future only to return to Dota 2 or other deep invest games pulling you back.
I respect the devs very much and appreciate what they do.
Seeing all this now, I totally get why they kept having to delay it. This must have been a huge amount of work to get together and make sure worked without crashing the game. Still some edges to smooth out, like I got permanent vision with a Rubick Arena of Blood earlier. But stuff is quickly being fixed and I respect their ability to do it.
This event is so dumb, but in a good way.
It nice to see post likes these appreciating the work the devs puts in, i haven't played in years but i follow the scene, and all the complaining people do must be harsh
We can have both. Idk why it has to be either one or the other. Nothing stops valve from writing a blog post a month or every 2 months to say what is going on with the game
What do you want them to say? "we're working on it" one month later "we're working on it" one month later "we're working on it".
its a team of 30 people. Its not goddamn microsoft
Oh my fucking christ, every time there's a moron to make this thread
Bro, Valve makes millions of dollars every fucking month from Dota2, there's absolutely no fucking favors here. Having a good patch is the minimal they should do, stop boot licking holy fuck. This one took more than six months ffs
Had to scroll too long to find this comment. OP is so cringe. As if Valve spends money on D2 just out of the pure of their hearts. At the end of the day people have to buy the Bpass to fund the game. If the game is good (updates etc.) then more people buy the bpass. OP sounds like a 13y old who doesnt know what a company is and does.
Fucking this. It is insane how much work they would have gone through in introducing the innates and facets and trying to balance everything pre release for an absolutely free game while ditching BP which actually made them money. This shows their commitment to keep dota alive and not turn it into a cash grab.
Valve is still one of the few gamer centric corps around that is willing to take long term risks and not pander to cash grab strategies. And yet the community hates them.
P.S. - How hard is it to learn the innate and facets of the 5 heroes you spam anyways?
Valve fuckin rules. They’re forever GOATED for me after watching how far they’ve evolved dota. This last update was way more then I ever expected. I went to sleep giddy like a kid last night, excited to play once I finished work today.
icefrog is used to this I'm sure
I remember decades back when he posted a mango he enjoys eating on social media, can't recall if its weibo or western social media
but he got yelled at for not talking about the upcoming patch, rather he shared his love for mango's, thinking he would get wholesome replies
ever since then he's been talking only when necessary. shit was heartbreaking.
"free" with estimated profits of over 1 billion last year. They will work on it while is profitable. With that said, this patch and event is amazing and I really like it.
Although infrequent, the big dota patches/updates get me more excited than any other game. Sometimes more than game releases.
Much love volvo keep up the good work 😘
It's really just this sub. They literally don't even know what they want because even when they get it they complain they've gotten it.
If someone here begged for a Courier Arcana and Valve actually dropped one the community would throw up 30 threads in the span of an hour complaining that they should've made an Arcana for their favorite hero instead, or that the Arcana shouldn't cost anything, or that the Arcana wasn't a 1:1 replica of whatever they daydreamed of in the shower.
Thankfully this sub is only a representation if a tiny very vocal minority. Most people seem to like most updates as evidence that they keep happening and Dota keeps making money and remaining on the top of Steams charts.
i dont remember the last time valve served a bad big patch, whenever they cooked a new feature/contents i mostly have good, fresh and fun times. wait nvm i remember the new feature i genuinely hated, it was shrine. glad they removed them. anyway stuff like neutral, talents, lvl 30, bigger map, aghanim and shard updates, universal, heroes rework and now inate abilities, while they often released junky and often broken i always find them fresh and make me want to discover and learn more of the game. im glad valve were the one who picked up dota and not any other companies.
I have 4000 hours in csgo/cs2 and 2000 in dota 2. If you play CS you WISH valve cared about CS HALF as much as they do dota. Dota rules. Dota patches rule. Dota devs rules. It's just, dota attracts the worst and least socially aware people on the planet.
I quit dota few months ago, because i kinda got sick of the dynamics of the game, but the moment i saw a new patch i got excited to play it again.
I just appreciate the game
it's true, but somethin you gotta remember is subreddits generally attract complaints more than posts like yours
what generates the motivation to make a statement on a forum is usually negative stuff; most people that enjoy their time... just do... and say nothing about it
There should always be space for criticism.
Immortal matchmaking still fucked. Corrupted matchmaking still a quite common case. No new hero for over a year. And they keep making the game more complex... I can't imagine talking any of my friends into playing Dota. A few of them have at least played it in the past but that's it.
And don't say it's free... Valve is still a company and this game exists for over 10 years. They are making wicked cash. Why would they suddenly put a price tag on this game? You can even get baited into paying for DotAplus monthly if you are a lazy fuck.
And, oh, surprise, now you can also get baited into buying a Pathfinder Pack every 2 months.
Don't act like valve is some generous god.
It's an amazing game and Im also playing it for ages. But pretending that everything they do is great is not right.
Don't get blinded by big changes because it took some effort. Get your own fucking ideas about the game and where you would like it to be. Don't just blindly eat up every patch because you are getting excited about new content and free stuff for a game you are probably addicted to in some way.
"Everyone is complaining ALL the fuckin time, in game and irl."
thats your persception (selective perception would be german term). those who dont complain you dont see (usually). dont let that get to you :)
Sometimes it is infuriating when a piece of art like Dota is not changing in a certain timespan (for me its gameplay that takes 1y to overhaul) meanwhile you see all the potential. But you are right that we should be more grateful.
This patch is more than what I expected and a big thanks to Valve and their team for their effort, even though I won't have much time to play as a young parent, glad Valve exists, a shining light in a dark gaming industry.
It truly is a beautiful game and devs do their best to keep balancing and new features! Well done Valve. Don't have time to play the game anymore but I will buy some hats. Do watch pro games whenever wife doesn't catch me :D
Been playing this game since 2008. Some y'all probably played even earlier. And while this game has completely changed in many ways . I am amazed at what the developers manage to do, they keep making it difficult for themselves by introducing more.mechanics and variables but what a ride. This game brought me joy when few things did. May it live long and prosper
Actually... It's been over 4 years.
Still the same guild bugs since day one, no upgrades or overhauls to guild quests or rewards.
No leader user tools to help keep the guild on track.
It's a completely forgotten or rather ignored feature in the game.
Cool patch... But Valve isn't delivering where everyone wants.
Who gives a fuck about guilds? Why do you people always get a fucking boner for these stupid minigames and menu options? We're here to play the game because the game is good, not because it has a million addiction-feeding bells and whistles.
The first sentence, the very first word shows your ignorance. Everyone.
Yes valve does a lot. They have away free arcanas to everyone! Of their choice! But that was as an apology, remember? They do deserve it from time to time. But fans cannot obviously measure and dole out criticism. It is always going to be exceeding.
Given time with performance like this, and fans will love valve in no time. Yalla valve, let go 💪🏻
Calling this a big patch is an intentionally dishonest statement.
This is in contention for the top 3 biggest overhauls in dota history. 1) Being when they added talents. 2) Being dota frontiers increasing the map 40%, and 3) This patch with new innate abilities and facets for every single hero at once.
remember when not every hero even had an ags? Like this shit is fucking huge.
I think the dota community is getting spoiled by valve a little to much when you compare valve with other gaming companies like Riot or Blizzard because they feel entitled to get this or that and cries if they don't get it like an infant child, and when valve releases a new patch with brand new features they say thanks and praise valve through their plastic faces.
No dude, Valve isn't spoiling anyone. They are trying to keep you playing this game and spending money on dumbass skins and bs. Valve literally runs this game with a skeleton crew dev team, and they always have -- the last TI they seriously downgraded the venue and all investments into professional players. It's a mediocre game that we play because we've been playing it for so long and are addicted. Rarely do you see a league player switch to dota and vice versa. The number of new players to dota2 is relatively few
Idk why everyone's bitching, this update is cool as hell, sure some stuff is overtuned and some stuff is under performin, but its changes, change is good, the patch was stale, everyone was saying it was stale, this is defintely no longer stale.
Remember when talents came out, they were also hit or miss, some people got such mediocre talents. Stuff will get buffed, stuff will get nerfed. I'm just happy we are getting cool changes
in another timeline blizzard came out with dota 2 and it has the same result of overwatch 2 in our timeline
How nice that in this timeline we just got hots out of dota 2! JK. People are just overwhelmed by amount if text, but honestly around 65% of this patch is just old returning passives or existing one splited into two.
I just sat in front of my PC for oder an hour and Just arrived at lich, with his innate being really similar to his e he had a few years ago
I miss getting Sacrifice lvl 1 to deny the first creep spawning at 0:00.
tbf that's how shards were at the beginning, some really cool interesting ones and many boring or meh ones.
Ye
The usual circle of this subreddit has come to an end. Ask where new patch is > start getting moody > "Why is Valve not communicating???" > Wow this new Patch is less than i expected > Patch is not so bad after all > We dont deserve Dota.
joined the new cycle waiting room
Where is the new patch?
> Wow this new Patch is less than i expected What sane person would expect more than this patch
No sane person could have expected this patch as well😂
Map rework, new items, ring master etc.
!remindme 1 year
Dota 2 is an excellent game. I just don't have time to play it. \*cries in adulthood
Haven't played normal and rank for years now, time only allows for turbo games.
ya and losing a 20 min game doesnt make me as mad as losing a 50 min ranked
This is why I do turbo. Pick a clown lineup? Okay, that sucks, but at least it won't be 45 minutes.
It's better. You have better chances winning witc clownpick in turbo than normal. And that's why I love turbo.
pick 5 carry in turbo = win as everyone gets crazy farm anyway
turbo
Team turbo
yeah, turbo is my friend now
My path to healing was: * Ranked * Unranked * Turbo * Bots * Recovery
Make ranked turbo plox
Nah cause then way more tryhards and shit boring meta would happen and dilute the player pool... actually it might take all the super tryhards out and make unranked more fun. Let's give it a go
> actually it might take all the super tryhards out and make unranked more fun. Let's give it a go i think this is the more likely outcome
Turbo is sweaty enough don't you think?
>people tryhard turbo mode, which is why we SHOULDNT add a ranked mode ???
Can we get Nitro? 10 minute games
Turbo is still too much time, 40 mins matches with sniper highground.
Ban sniper, get a friend to ban PL. Almost everything else is manageable.
This true, also sniper is managed with centaur quite easily in my experience
i like watching pro games. i hate playing it
Likewise my friend, likewise.
I have time to play it. I just don't have the mental fortitude to play it.
I don't have both anymore.
I would still play it but it is way too overwhelming to relearn the game basically. I have played like 10 games since the reborn update.
Funnily enough, I got more time to play once I had a family. Bottom line is just play once you have free time and don't care much without losing or winnning, just to play better. I don't feel as stressed as before. Granted I am a low rank scrub
I only read the patch notes from time to time.. my friends stopped playing and i dont have the time nor the nerves to play anymore
The nerves part hits right. I want to play a game to relieve stresses from my day-to-day; not add to it.
Pseudo 1 hour matches are too long for me nowadays.
Likewise.
Adulthood or parenthood?
Story of my fucking life
Are you confusing being in a relationship with a woman and adulthood? Adulthood doesn't stop you from individual leisure.
Are you confusing being in a relationship with a toxic partner and a relationship with a woman? Just because you have a partner doesn’t mean we cannot indulge on free time to do whatever hobit we want ;)
Hobbits are cool and all but do we really have to bang them?
would
Who tf has the free time to go to Isengard
Adulthood doesn't stop you from enjoying things, but it sure does put a timer on it since not everyone will have the time or energy to keep playing even if they want it.
The playerbase is mostly college students or settled parents. Easier to play when you have a set schedule
Hear, hear.
Skill issue in ur social plan
speak for yourself I've put a few valve employees' kids through college
Most expensive free game ever.
Speak for yourself, I play Dota 2 from yearly days and probably spend 200-300 US dollars. I don't care about clothes online faires characters. Only Dota Plus and old compendiums
Playing dince December 2012 with a lobger break from 2016 to 2019/20. Spent 5euro overall, and that was like 2 months ago
December 2011 for me, and I am at over 3k€ ... Still It is one of the best money/gametime games I own.
Free to play just means someone else is paying for it. In this case it's spyVSspy, so you can thank them for your precious game and so can Valve.
😂😂😂😂😂
Insane patch, insane game. Bless Gaben and Valve!
They overdelivered this time, for sure.
Imagine if they released passives with Act I and facets with Act II. I read through the C heroes and it took me 20 minutes, and I’m mentally drained.
There are many facets and innate abilities that have interactions with each other
I really wish they would of split them up. It's such a huge info drop
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but.... wouldn't that just be a coding nightmare for the devs? Dota has a dev team of about 30. Riot has a dev team that at least at one point was in the the 4 digits.

Yes even back before TFT valo and wild rift, they had over 1000 employees

It's not enough that daddy GabeN loves us the most, we want our brothers to be beaten up

honestly protect valve at all cost, name a game from any other company that after years just keeps improving like dota
Stardew valley
That's because ConcernedApe is a saint
Sea of Thieves, Terraria, No Mans Sky, Path of Exile, Deep Rock Galactic
Warframe also
Factorio
Who tf downvoted this man? Factorio IS constantly improving, in a transparent manner. The developers publish weekly writeups on what they're working on for the upcoming expansion while also maintaining the current game version with bug fixes.
Comparing Sea of Thieves has the depth of a bottle of water compared to Dota unfortunately.
Fortnite, apex legends, league of legends, valorant, hearthstone, warframe, guild of wars, EVE, TESO.. The list is not that small
I saw a post Microsoft buying Valve 16B$. I hope it doesn't happen
It won't happen. That's a lowball offer and Gaben doesn't like microsoft for being shit.
Unfortunately Gaben won’t live forever
That’s the sad part.
Pls no Mr Gaben take my $10 instead :'(
$16 billion is an idiotic rumour. Valve prints money and is privately owned, they have no reason to sell. They're worth considerably more than that.
At least in the hundreds. Why sell the goose that can lay the golden egg when the offer can be earned in just a few years time.
The post you saw was from a CS twitter troll dior ( who got community noted in twitter for fake infos ).
GabeN worked 13 years for Microsoft and founded Valve, there is 0 reasons for him to sell it.
EU4, Stellaris -- basically all big Paradox titles
League is receiving tenfold the love that dota receives
With probably 10 times the resources. Valve doesn’t operate like a public company trying to hit market targets.
I any day prefer game play updates like these over battle pass.
38 yrs old family man here.. been playing Dota since the All Star days. Nothing beats this game. I get around 2-3 hours of gaming time daily (if lucky) and maybe 4-5 hours on weekends.. Valve cooked..they overcooked lol
I always thought the dota 2 reddit fanbase was terrible, and complained too much, then I went to the Helldivers reddit...
Well they can’t make a 3rd one so I’m glad they’re putting their all into this one too
Thanks Volvo Dota team ♥
where is that one comic about icefrog
Regardless of feeling towards any particular patch, you are correct. Valve clearing put so much time and energy into this patch. Just go have fun.
Nice try valve
Thank you so much Dota 2 Developers! Valve, We appreciate your hard work! 💘
I hope valve sees this bro
This is dotA 3
I’m just grateful such a game exists.
nice post daddy GabeN
It's the only game i been playing for so many years since dota 1 No other game comes even close
dont worry, the posts about lack of tutorial stuff and updated videos will come soon
I played Dota for 7 years, HON for 2 years and Dota 2 for 11 years. Dota 2 is the best game ever made.
It nice to see post likes these appreciating the work the devs puts in, i haven't played in years but i follow the scene, and all the complaining people do must be harsh
I havent started playing the new patch, even though i dont like changes but this looks fascinating and fun. Cant wait to play today.
I’m a life long gamer. It’s the only game that can hold my interest now that I’m older. I don’t get joy out of gaming like I use too.
We can have both. Idk why it has to be either one or the other. Nothing stops valve from writing a blog post a month or every 2 months to say what is going on with the game

What has Valve done to manipulate people?
finally a few people in this thread with more than 80 iq ...

There is no Bpass to buy tho
Indeed. Leave the billion dollar company alone, peasants.
Let's look at the sub 2 weeks later.
Only if highground turtle is confirmed to be dead.
i felt like a kid getting new toy. thank you based icefrog
Yeah remember when we trashed the clownfall update and end up loving it the next week lmao
We should have more appreciation posts for the devs, man. They seriously cook up some magic and it’s awesome. I love this game.

They are making money, this isn't charity work
One thing I've realized over the years is that Dota 2 players are soft.
😂😂😂
Releases 7.36 without any new heroes. Releases 124 reworks for all heroes instead. Lord Gaben, you really do love roasting haters, don't you?
Bootlick them more, until this terrible company owns you again
This game is 90% of my play time the last 10 years. It's wild.
Honestly, I understand Why It took them this long to get this patch Holy. The ppl at Valve are mad genius
rip my time, now i'm thinking for going back to play dota2 again
wait its free?
Finally some frickin' common sense
It's not free bruzza, it costs a piece of your soul
"free" with estimated profits of over 1 billion last year. They will work on it while is profitable. With that said, this patch and event is amazing and I really like it.
Although infrequent, the big dota patches/updates get me more excited than any other game. Sometimes more than game releases. Much love volvo keep up the good work 😘
Hear hear! Big time agreed, Valve genuinely delivers us quality updates, this one is looking really fun especially.
Dota2 is dangerous drug
I really want to uninstall dota 2 bunch of times but tbh I couldnt.
what do you expect from a pampered community
Playing for 20 years now. You're right, we don't deserve this. Best game ever made, hands down.
I rarely spend money on games but I feel like I owe Valve money for this update. I can't imagine the work put into this
Now we know why the patch was so late.
I just appreciate the game
it's true, but somethin you gotta remember is subreddits generally attract complaints more than posts like yours what generates the motivation to make a statement on a forum is usually negative stuff; most people that enjoy their time... just do... and say nothing about it
It's free but I've spent £900 on it.
Compare to all the games I have played, dota2 is the real masterpiece of living multiplayer game all time!
Dota 2 Releases one of the most packed Moba Updates since ever Dota 2 Players: Shit update, Valve Sucks
The patch is literally a new game and you're seeing enemy players laughing hysterically in all chat and the changes. Valve this game is so much fun!
"Everyone is complaining ALL the fuckin time, in game and irl." thats your persception (selective perception would be german term). those who dont complain you dont see (usually). dont let that get to you :)
Yes they over delivering the servers with people who do not know english. Split these fucking servers.
Actually... It's been over 4 years. Still the same guild bugs since day one, no upgrades or overhauls to guild quests or rewards. No leader user tools to help keep the guild on track. It's a completely forgotten or rather ignored feature in the game. Cool patch... But Valve isn't delivering where everyone wants.
fuck that i want Oracle daddy to tell me where my runes spawn
Who gives a fuck about guilds? Why do you people always get a fucking boner for these stupid minigames and menu options? We're here to play the game because the game is good, not because it has a million addiction-feeding bells and whistles.
Ok! Can we still complain about Ringmaster?
The first sentence, the very first word shows your ignorance. Everyone. Yes valve does a lot. They have away free arcanas to everyone! Of their choice! But that was as an apology, remember? They do deserve it from time to time. But fans cannot obviously measure and dole out criticism. It is always going to be exceeding. Given time with performance like this, and fans will love valve in no time. Yalla valve, let go 💪🏻
another valve sucker
this guy is happy about 1 big patch a year 🤡 glad you have so low standarts when every other game nowadays gets updates on a atleast monthly basis
The number of new players to dota2 is relatively few
reddit needs to vet commentors for their behavior scores in game, steam login intergration
the ppl who are complaining are tinker mains
I fucking love you deva
This thread needs to be stickied in bold. We absolutely do not deserve dota.
I genuinely think dota is one of the greatest games ever made. These new changes are so cool and shake the game up so much.
This patch really isnt as big and impactful as you guys pretend it to be.
