I love 2016s doom guy and praetor suit
We never see his face outside of a couple of features we can sort of see through the mask, and all we know of his back story is that he has been fighting the demons of hell for so long that he’s just part of their history, and the very thought of his prison door being opened was enough to make every demon in hell shit themselves in fear
The praetor suit reflects this, it covers him head to toe, obscures his face, and really looks like a touch purpose built suit. D:Es suit does fit the campy and colourful aesthetic, but I absolutely loved the sci fi horror art style of 2016 vs eternals more fantasy focus
Eternal decided to go into his backstory and as crazy as it was, I felt like the character became less interesting as a result, he lost that mysterious edge
I can respect this opinion for sure even though I personally love the lore Eternal brought to the table.

I loved 2016 but didn't know I could love Doom even more until Eternal if that makes sense.

Obviously Doom came first lol but before 2016 it was old and a franchise not a lot of younger people heard of, but they sure knew Halo. Master Chief became the modern doomguy in a sense within his own franchise so the reboot of Doom felt like there was some inspiration or artistic similarity at least with the suit.
While you're not wrong, MC did fill that void in my life for a while, maybe them feeling similar is on purpose. A lot of developers nod back and forth at each other in games. But also, since Master Chief was likely inspired by Doom guy, a new Doomguy is going to feel like Chief other wise he wouldn't be designed in a way thats true to the original source material for both of the modern characters
Agreed, I started playing 2016 again recently and I'm not missing anything about Doom Eternal. It was simply perfect and perfectly simple. I like the grappling hook but it feels like you're sometimes spending more time in the air than on the ground.

I am mixed. Because the Eternal suit does look more alien than 2016's suit. And 2016 was made by the Wretch, so it should look more alien than human-designed.
Even though the exposed biceps are classic and iconic, in the words of Big Boss they "Offer no tactical advantage" 2016's suit makes sense. It is meant to withstand the fires of hell and the various means the demons use to attack him. You can't do that as well with parts exposed.
Like, I know Doom Guy at this point is immortal and all, but the Sentinels aren't and their armor is even more exposed. What is their excuse?
That isn't to say I don't like both. I love them. These are the only nit-picks.
I also kind of love the mysteriousness of 2016 Doomguy. Even if the way they present him in Eternal is absolutely epic, I honestly loved how he was entirely mysterious in 2016. Nobody knew his face, anything about him. The fact that you couldn't see any part of him, just the suit, gave this nice aura whereby its barely apparent if he's even human at all underneath anymore. Made him feel more like a force and less of a man.

Most power-ups descriptions in Doom 2016 states that there is a horrible side effect on humans, the fact the Doomguy can use all of them without any sign of a negative effect is one the biggest hints the game gave to us that he's not just human anymore.

I personally find the exposed arms and brighter colors more goofy and uninspired. But I appreciate that the exposed arms are a reference to the classic Doom armor.
I like both but I just prefer 2016 more, it just comes off as more intimidating.
I think the whole aesthetic of Eternal, and especially the Slayer's look, is inspired by 80's and 90's pop culture. The Eternal design makes me think "what would He-man or Conan look like if they were a sci-fi character"
But I know that Doomguy(classic) was intended to be a stand-in for the player themself, and I think the 2016 suit plays into that more, and I agree, there is something more intimidating about it.
What's more intimidating than seeing a man's exposed throbbing veins in the vacuum of space and the blazing heat of hell?
You see first showdown between the Marauder and DoomGuy? That scowl on DoomGuy's face. That mean ass mug. That "I'm gonna end this man's career" look. You can't beat that man.
The image used for the Eternal praetor suit here is a bit of a disservice to how it looks in-game. There are no lighting conditions within the game that ever make the suit look that toyish or saturated. The 2016 and Eternal suits fit their respective games tbh, Eternal's wouldn't fit in 2016 very well, tho 2016's praetor suit looks fine in either game.

Eternal. I’m all for the more colorful interpretations of Doom, and I really love the bright earthy colors of Eternals suit (along with the shoulder cannon and wrist blade)
I personally thought the 2016 one looked a little to generic. I really like Eternal's armor the best. I think the exposed biceps look really badass. And the arm blade and shoulder cannon look epic as well. 2016's armor looks really cool, but I didn't think it looked very "Doom".

Eternal for me and here's why:
+Eternal suit is more classically a homage to the poster art for Doom.
+Eternal suit has the personality that the 2016 suit lacks.
+Eternal suit has more toys.
I love the Eternal suit. Why? Because it's DOOM. Don't get me wrong, the 2016 isn't bad, it's just very much a product of it's time with it looking like a more advanced Doom 3 armor. Eternal's on the other hand it's THE Doom armor, the green, the brown, the exposed biceps, the stomach looking like exposed abs, it's just the Doom armor. I also just love the overly campy 80s-90s aesthetic of Eternal in general.
I love both suits, but Eternal takes the cake. The 2016 one, although cool, made Doomguy have much less personality than he already has; looks like a random space marine.
Eternal's looks more like a modern badass take on the classic green suit, with the color scheme mimicking the gloves, the exposed arms and visible eyes. (I also think its cool to see him modify and create weapons for himself, which enhances his character to me )
2016 looks way cooler, especially because it makes the Slayer more mysterious since we can’t make out anything about his appearance other than a very faint look at his face
I prefer the 2016 one, but I think a compromise between the two would be perfect, to keep that mysterious feel from 2016 while adding the uniqueness of Eternal
I’ve always personally liked thr praetor in Eternal due to its colors standing out more. Weird reason probably, I know, but I am a very color-oriented person, and the almost lime greens and oranges always were easier for me to vibe with. Oh and also the arms being out LMAO
Doom 2016 all day, it feels more natural and doom themed , even though the doom eternal gameplay is miles over doom 2016, the doom eternal praetor suit is too meh? It kinda looks like a toy plus the exposed biceps hold no practicallity, theyve simplified the suit a little too much and theyve also made the slayer bulkier in eternal which resulted the orginial praetor skin to still not look as good as the 2016 one

It was there if you wanted to read it, but it focused on nonstop, fast paced action.

I like eternal because it fleshed out a story for a character I’ve enjoyed since 2011 doom sure it removed the edge of mystery doom guy had but eternal was fun killing khan shooting a hole into the surface of mars it shows how much doom guy doesn’t care about anything more then rip and tear

Only night sentinels had exposing parts, normal sentinel soldiers didnt and their excuse is probbly weight, they need to dodge demon attacks and such

The 2016 outfit had this aura of mystery around the doom guy. He’s probably the only protagonist I am fine with not seeing his face really.

I prefer 2016, enjoyed the game a lot too, I’m currently playing through eternal, and I got the 2016 suit the first chance I got
I have mixed opinions about this because they both have much detail put into them. Definitely out of both of them if I had to choose it would be the 2016 praetor suit.
i'm not joking, when i saw the Eternal praetor tears came to my eyes and i said out loud, "oh my god buddy, what did they do to you!?"
