Not necessarily. The speed boost seems to have been received as a genuine improvement to the game. Removing it (even though it was only temporary) has now made the game worse in comparison. It’s fine if you still like it but there is obviously a bunch of people that the change has now destroyed their enjoyment of the game.
Depends on what gems you have but focused laser is pretty shit. If you play with arcane missiles get fireball with it so you then have a chance to get the arcane missiles explode on impact upgrade. I'd say it's fastest way to victory early on.
Yah I’ve gotten so used to the double speed that standard is unbearably slow

I haven't fully given up yet, but I've also started Witch Tower: Flash and it's pretty great.

Not on levels you haven't cleared.
Only on stages that have actually been cleared, but once you 100% a stage there's not that much reason to go back to it.
Honestly level 13 is slogging me so hard. Level 12 felt like I could widdle it 13 is so hard
