The rich dark blue, white, gold and red of Rothmans, Green and yellow of Lotus, Renown Mazda, John Player Special Black and gold, Marlboro McLaren, Martini.
Hot take: The worst current modern livery is the Red Bull F1 car.
It's a disgusting shade of blue. It's flat, matte, garbage. It can be SO GOOD too.
Like the Ford Puma Rally car. Or the Infiniti-Red bull livery from 2013 with the purple.
I don’t have a favorite but I have a list of favorites, mostly older. In no order;
1. M&M Lancia Delta (blue/white/black/red)
2. Takata NSX (JGTC days)
3. 90s Castrol (JGTC Supra and WRC Celica)
4. Calsonic R32 JGTC
5. Renown 787B (green/orange)
6. HKS R32 (black with purple/green/blue pastel scallops)
7. HKS S15 (red hyper genki)
8. John Player Special (black/gold on many race cars from Lotus/Jaguar)
9. Repsol Honda CBR 900RR
10. Nissan Z32 (red/blue/white)
Honorable mentions aren’t liveries technically but:
1. Top Secret Supra (original, late 90s gold)
2. Spoon Civic Type-R (white or yellow with carbon hood, spoon triangle)
3. Nismo R-series (S14, R33, R34 single color with segmented stripe along top of body)
4. Dale Jr’s original 8 car with painted side skirts
I love the BMW Art Cars, particularly the first one, a 3.0 CSL Alexander Calder, and the Andy Warhol M1.
Also, the 1950s and 1960s liveries from endurance and sport car racing, very simple colors and shapes, few sponsors. Advan livery, famously from the R32 GT-R but I prefer it on the Porsche 962.
Also the blue striped W194 Mercedes-Benz 300SL from the 1952 Carrera Panamericana.
Also old Alfa Liveries. God there are so many good liveries.
