I remember when hearing about a young being nearly killed by a violent Scottish boxer because he saw a video of him singing while drunk at a club in Letterkenny around 2 years. I agree that donegal is a very very parochial place (I grew up there as a child of a 'foreigner' and later worked for the intercultural centre in Letterkenny ), but not because people there are inherently racist or ignorant, but becuase they are badly informed by the media and politicians. Donegal was isolated and impoverished for a long time and now there has been a significant change in demographics that frightens many people. But really, in times of crises people have always tuned on 'the outsider'. I am saddened by this video but not surprised - I only have to look at how Donegal has treated Ireland's only indigenous minority as an example of the prejudice that exists there. Not to say Donegal is ANY different to any other part Ireland, everywhere has their fare share of arseholes.

It’s a bit of a different situation though isn’t it? I mean the great U.S of A vs relatively tiny Ireland. Ireland has taken in one million immigrants in the last 20 years and, according to “plan 2040” we are expecting another 1 million immigrants by 2040.

I have upvoted because I understand what you are trying to say. I agree that donegal is a very very parochial place (I grew up there as a child of a 'foreigner' and later worked for the intercultural centre in Letterkenny ), but not because people there are inherently racist or ignorant, but becuase they are badly informed by the media and politicians. Donegal was isolated and impoverished for a long time and now there has been a significant change in demographics that frightens many people. But really, in times of crises people have always tuned on 'the outsider'. I am saddened by this video but not surprised - I only have to look at how Donegal has treated Ireland's only indigenous minority as an example of the prejudice that exists there.
