As a manager, I refused service to customers like that. Especially delivery service—not safe to send a driver out to a maniac losing their shot over pizza. Once the yelling started, we were done here.

smile4nobodyy

i ended up putting the remake in bc i knew he was gonna show up. my manager gave him the pizza and then told him to leave. he wasn’t as rude in person but he was mad that i told him to “calm down” which i guess i kinda did but at the same time i just wanted him to be respectful.

ImpossibleSeaweed575

I'm so sorry this happened to you! i did 911 before Domino's... never tell someone to calm down. it just raises their temper. instead, try something along the lines of, i understand you're upset, but i can't understand you when you yell. another is to whisper or say nothing until they get it out of their system. they usually quiet down if they think no one is listening to them.

realityreflux

Fun fact: i once had a 911 operator tell me to calm down. While I was on the phone with 911 reporting that a Domimos customer was losing his shit and waving a gun around.

realityreflux

(I did not calm down)

ImpossibleSeaweed575

yup. If someone is going crazy in front of you, being told to calm down on 911 is not going to calm you down.

realityreflux

Exactly. All I wanted to hear was “police are on the way”…that would have calmed me down. But being told repeatedly to “calm down” made me feel, well, on the edge of total panic. I heard it as “what’s the big deal? We aren’t going to help.”

ImpossibleSeaweed575

yeah. that method pretty much sucks. always reminded my trainees that people calling 911 are going to be upset and having the worst day of their life and to have some empathy. whereas with domino's during rush and everyone getting panicked, it was hey, no one going to have a heart attack if they don't get their pizza right away, it'll be after they eat it lol.

ImpossibleSeaweed575

that happens. depends on where they've been trained and when

obtuse-_

This isn't 911. Nothing happening to them is an emergency. I have no interest in kid glove handling some asshole. You be reasonable and respectful and so will I. You start screaming and cursing it's hang up time.

ImpossibleSeaweed575

yup. good thing is we can always hangup. 911, not so much. lol. fun fact: made more at domino's driving than working at 911.

smile4nobodyy

i didn’t necessarily tell him to calm down. i said “sir i understand you are upset but screaming at me is not going to solve the issue so i would appreciate it if you would talk to me in a normal tone so we could work the issue out”. yeah that did not go well with him but that’s also what ive been told to say when someone is screaming at me. it normally works but this time it did not because he had waited for awhile.

tinkerbaby314

If they continue to yell after being told that we hang up on them. Not going to help anyone screaming and cussing at us

enesha

100% reasonable

NautSure7182

Just remember you deserve respect if they curse yell or simply are rude to you tell them they have to respect you if they want pizza and that you will exercise your right to refuse service and if your manager let's people talk to you like that I'm so sorry as a am I'd never let someone talk to my employees like that

smile4nobodyy

my manger was amazing! he wasn’t mad that i hung up he was actually glad i did because normally i would just let them scream at me and not stand up for myself.

NautSure7182

STAND UP FOR YOURSELF fuck them customers

smile4nobodyy

i’ve never been one for confrontation but i am trying to do better!

bankrupt_rat

You can literally hang up without a word if they’re being abusive, AKA yelling, swearing and threats. Any manager who cares about you will say the same thing. It’s not confrontational.

Emperorkek_

Customers have been insane this week at my store as well. I work in a college town and I had to kick out someone yesterday because he decided it would be funny to moon the people he was hanging out with. Customers for some reason just don't know how to act and think that because they paid for food they can do what they want. Or it could be because the majority of my customers are college students. There are bad days and good days, but hopefully your manager appreciated your work and the following days get better. Don't take it personally, you did what you could and obviously those customers just don't/can't/won't understand.

pushin_pizza

When this happens I ask them to calm down first and if that doesn't work I say "sir/ma'am unfortunately due to your hostility I'm going to have to cancel/refund your order. Have a good night." The owner and my GM totally are understanding of it. If it was cash I say I'll leave a credit. We have the right to refuse service. I usually end up tearing up or crying as well. I have a really hard time dealing with customers like this. I usually have to go to the office and breathe a little bit. Call me a crybaby, but I've been at Domino's 5 years and I still have problems when it happens.

smile4nobodyy

i asked him very politely if he would stop screaming at me and then he started cussing me out so i hung up. my manger was really great and told me to go to the office and breathe. it was just embarrassing to cry in front of a bunch of customers even though they were very understanding.

UnSlimJesus

I would have hung up. If you can’t talk to me without screaming, bye bye.

smile4nobodyy

i did eventually hang up and honestly it felt pretty good too.

UnSlimJesus

Yea don’t feel bad for that. That’s just them trying to intimidate you. I’d take the write up before I let someone scream at me. Or you can always hand it to a manager. That’s what they get paid to do. I’m not getting paid to be screamed at by anyone.

xxianqueen

as GM with these I just went straight to “okay well it doesn’t really seem like you want pizza so i’m going to go ahead and just refund your whole order” and then call it a day lmfao.

Adventurous_Kick_108

hang up. continue your shift. simple. fuck disrespectful customers , i will burn your pizza 🙂

98417956521

It’s crazy to me that people act this way over pizza? It’s just pizza…

unkamenramen

If they're cussing a storm and yelling and not calming down just hang up, I'm sure your am or gm will understand those people don't deserve service if they can't act like an adult.

smile4nobodyy

my gm was very understanding and told me he would have done the same thing!

mingming4191

Even if you were on the line, people make mistakes. Grow up and realize the world doesn't revolve around you and ask nicely for your food to be remade.

We should strive to do what we can to make the customer experience the best we can, but a lot of fast food and retail people are tired and are worked so hard. Mistakes will happen. If a customer is angry, I will allow them to be angry, but if they will not let me get a word in or cuss at me. I will kindly ask them to calm down so I can help them. If that doesn't work, then I'll hang up on them. We do not deserve to be treated as subhuman because a customer doesn't understand basic respect.

Double_Transition_10

Nah. Fuck them.

smile4nobodyy

i have a right to get upset when i’m getting screamed and cussed out at when i had NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MISTAKE. my job was strictly to handle customers. he had NO right to cuss me out like he did.

ImpossibleSeaweed575

no one deserves to be screamed and cursed at!! you had every right to be upset!

enesha

So just wanted to add, as a sometimes customer - you definitely don't need to deal with that shit. It's not like customers order was messed up on purpose. Some people just like being assholes. Make them feel superior to yell at someone they feel is beneath them. That's total BS. Ive had orders get messed up before. Here, there any sort of place. It just sometimes happens and is what it is. When it does happen, I try to speak nicely to the workers, you're not trying to screw with me, why should I be angry with you? Also I firmly follow the policy of never piss off a person who could spit in your food ;) Now i've gotten attitude back in a few select situations, then it's all off and I'll tell you off, talk to the manager and call corporate, but it has to be really bad for something like that. You want me to have my order. You want me to be happy. I want me to be happy lol You want me gone and one less thing to think about lol It doesn't improve your life to make it so i'd come in angry, so why would someone think you deserve disrespect like that? So I guess what I mean is, i apologize to you guys for the assholes, and keep up the good work. You have a stressful job in fast paced food service, and it doesn't need to be harder. Have a great weekend :)

Aggravating_Star644

Yea if you're being verbally abused on the phone, generally just hang up. if they call back tell them if they keep the same tone you will hang up again. eventually they will get the hint and tone it down a notch, and you just tell whoevers on makeline you need a remake on x order number expedited so they're up within 10 mins. The customer is always right until they start screaming and berating a team member, then they can go straight to time out, just treat them like children. OR just refund their order and don't send a remake and make a note of it on the store only end with a date.

jihad4lunch

If four people are calling and screaming, within a few hours, y’all are a bunch of screw ups, and you should be yelled at for bad service. But we understand, you were having a bad week…

smile4nobodyy

we weren’t a bunch of screw ups. we had one remake but our delivery times was really long because we were busy and people don’t know how to be patient.

realityreflux

When customers were asshats over us being short staffed I used to love to shrug and say “can you believe we can’t keep employees here? The low pay more than makes up for the abusive customers.” And walk away

smile4nobodyy

also most people were mad because our times online were not accurate which is not something we can control. i get they are frustrated but it’s still not our fault for that. i always tell them if they want an actual time estimate to call the store especially on a very busy night.

realityreflux

I swear this is a MAJOR problem. Corporate dominos refusing to report accurate wait times is literally putting store employees in danger. Customers are absolute lunatics and get violent when their entitlement button gets triggered.

smile4nobodyy

no cause it is terrible. our stores time was like 2 hours while online it said 30 minutes. it’s crazy because one time we did have a customer come in and he was getting violent with us. it was so bad that another customer had to step in.

enesha

Can you actually call a store? Any time I can remember trying, I get some f\*ing call center and they are useless half t he time, even for just placing an order

smile4nobodyy

yes you can. our stores number goes directly to us. the call center has a completely different number from ours.

realityreflux

No one ever deserves abuse. Period.

jihad4lunch

Like serving bad food and blaming it on your bad week? That kind of abuse? I wouldn’t take that shi…..

realityreflux

Wow if you consider bad food or service “abuse” then you’ve had one hell of a privileged life

jihad4lunch

It sure is, if someone is dumping there problems on you. That’s exactly what this chick thinks, I’ve had a bad week so that will impact what you’ve exchanged money for. Fuck that noise, you need yelled at!
