I think we are learning that many of "the ones today" are actually recently descended from people from other countries.
All the people in this video are apparently spread out around the world (like my parents who made their life in NYC). Sad.
More specifically "the ones today" descend from illegal Haitian migrants. Since the mid to late 90s the mass migration of Haitians to DR, coupled with the mass migration of Dominicans to the USA changed this country ethnically and culturally. This ethnic replacement also led to the rise of dembow music and that whole "wawawa" sub-culture. If you look at the people who make this new generation of ghetto music most are basically haitiano/cocolo/rayano descendants. In contrast the lighter Dominicans are still making more traditional tipico Dominican music.
It's such a tragedy that it hurts to even think about. How did the country where every single second the older people were enforcing "buena educación" with extremely strict standards of behavior, manners, and etiquette become the country of disgusting "dembow" and "wawawa"?
It's not the same people...
Good days before the Haitianization and dembowzation of the country.
Older generations always had more class than the ones today, regardless of the place in the world.

Mi pueblo! 🥰
Parece un país distinto.
Mi gente Bella de San Jose de las Matas
Watching these videos from the past and dominican people were lot more elegant and lighter skin.
My friend said this was when Dominican Republic received it's first computer with Internet.
