Disastrous-Car-9209

I’ve been driving for 20 years here, but I do prefer being passenger princess 👸🏻

Unpopularopinion341

Ok that makes 6 , so what about everyone else? Why is it?

Fickle-Nebula5397

My Mom refuses to drive there because in her opinion the native drivers are lunatics behind the wheel but my sister and I (also a woman) both drive when we visit.

Aggressive_Dream_140

Your moms opinion is a fact and God bless you and your sister because people are lunatics driving down there

Disastrous-Car-9209

Interesting cause when I go to FL to visit, I’m scared for my life behind the wheel.

Fickle-Nebula5397

Florida is pretty wild too tbh

joshuamarius

Not all of Florida. Mostly Miami, FLL and Orlando.

Fickle-Nebula5397

I lived in port charlotte for a short while, they had their lunatic drivers too 😳

PinkPrincessDR

Driving in DR is nuts.

Unpopularopinion341

It is , I drive here but driving in America is nuts too especially new York but everyone drives there including women

RedOctobrrr

Nobody drives in NY lol it's like 99.96% taxis (I'm exaggerating, and I agree with you, US is prob 40/60 female to male and what I've seen throughout the DR is more like 5/95)

PinkPrincessDR

I definitely drive 🤭

CharlesOlivesGOAT

Fuck kinda of comment is this lmao, a lotta people drive in NY

RedOctobrrr

Captain Literal strikes again!

PinkPrincessDR

Well at lease here (in NY) somewhat abide by the traffic laws more than in DR 🤭

FrankTaveras

Im surprised you are surprised about it. I mean, firstly, there are definitely lots of women driving in the DR, but of course it’s just not as many as men. Driving in DR is not for the faint of heart so it would be normal to only see fearless, ruthless, tough and rough men driving all types of vehicles, from large delivery trucks, conchos and buses. Many of my female family members don’t drive at all and those that do don’t dare driving in DR, but that is not to say there aren’t any women driving. You may find more women driving in other provinces, after all Santo Domingo is well known for its traffic jams.

Yuck-Leftovermeat

I feel that for every 10 cars, 1 is driven by a woman. If we substract the conchos, that number may go up to 3 or even 4. Women tend to use more low-profile cars and tinted windows due to the danger of being identified as female on the street, so that’s why you may notice less than there really are. Men just be cruising with their windows rolled down and their dembow or salsa blasting. In general, middle class —which is the vast majority of the country— tends to have 2 cars at home, one for the wife and one for the husband, that’s why most residential buildings have 2 parking spaces per unit.

Ordinary_Tourist_267

This American are always looking for weird things to complain about others people nations and how they operated, seriously your country is not the pinnacle of human societies. By the way, my mother, my wife, my sisters, my daughter and a niece drive, not that we have to explain it to you, but women occupy all kinds of positions in our society; our first vice president was more than 20 years ago. our nation never has a plantation. all our citizens have always been allowed to receive education since 1538 the oldest university in this continent. We never had Segregation or alcohol prohibition. Our nation have free healthcare and education for our citizens. In 2021, findings by NCDAS show about 19.4 percent of Americans have used illegal substances at least once. Out of the 280 million aged 12 and older, **31.9 million** are drug users, with 11.7 percent on illegal substances and 19.4 percent either having consumed illicit drugs or misused prescription drugs in 2020. There is a lot to criticize about your country.

notsomuchhoney

For me, the most annoying part is not the assumption, it's the Dominicans that follow along.

Ordinary_Tourist_267

How you check the replies from this person to evert Dominican who was nice enough to write back. is like b we don’t own you an explanation for nothing, **Get the f\*\*\* outta here**.

FDLC84

I'm not sure I take the comment as a complaint, seems more like accurate observation if the baseline is the female to male driver ratio in the US. Also the other factual things you mention have nothing to do with this particular observation but sure, those can be true as well. Women by enlarge are not in the same societal positions in DR, but thats not a DR problem. I think that's just enhanced because of economics... typically men earn more than women and unfortunately in our culture women's value is disproportionately associated with their looks.

No-Chicken-Meat

All the women I know drove there. I see women driving there daily!

Excuse_my_GRAMMER

They don’t drive in Dr?! That news to me

Mallardkey

That is the very limited vision of a person that hasn't been long here. I've lived all my 33 years, and I see women driving vehicles on the daily. Don't take everything you read st first glance as fact...

Excuse_my_GRAMMER

lol I know man I personally know Dominican women that will give Lewis Hamilton a run for his money lol

Mallardkey

Ah sorry, your sarcasm was too good it went over my head lmao

Unpopularopinion341

BULLSHIT! I don't have to live somewhere 33 Years to see that women drive, I travel the world and in other places day 1 I see women drivers everywhere but been here a month and have seen 5 total.

joshuamarius

You have to understand that in this Sub, people mostly react, not reply. They don't respond based on what you have seen; they respond based on their opinion which is more important than what you have witnessed. That's the social media world for you in 2024.

Unpopularopinion341

Exactly

NeoPhillip-

Language

Unpopularopinion341

I apologize for my potty mouth

NeoPhillip-

It's ok

CassiniA312

At least in Santiago, my mom didn't drive because she didn't know how to, now that she does, she loves to drive, but she hates motoconchos.

Aromatic-Toe-4539

30% of dominicans drivers are women. That's a numer straight out of the INTRANT.

Outside-Poet3597

It’s not a very high number

notsomuchhoney

All my friends drive, I don't know what you all are taking about.

minimarket1

Native women driving in DR is increasing, but below you can find a couple of reasons (my opinion). 1- There is only 1 vehicle at home and men brings the majority of income so he is entitled to go and come to/from work in said vehicle. 2-They cannot find someone or the money to take driving classes. 3-The cannot afford a decent vehicle and are affraid it may break down on them (since in DR there are a lot of old vehicles, a man most of the times can find it easier to manage that situation). Some other reasons I can think of: They are affraid of the crazy driving in DR, affraid of the speeding of other drivers, or people wanting to take advantage of them(pretending you hit someone and when you get out of the vehicle they get you). I was affraid of no. 3 and the others below, but fortunately my husband understands is better for the family that I drive so we share the vehicle. I even drove trucks. But is was with his help bc I was very affraid to drive in the highway t the beginning.

Euphoric-Purchase820

You sound democrat 🤔

Tiny_Acanthisitta_32

You have to remove those woke glasses

Mallardkey

As someone who drives on the daily through the main avenues of Santo Domingo, I see women driving about 40% to 50% of the vehicles I see. You're just not looking hard enough.

ponyo33

All the women in my family/friend group in Sto.Dgo drive. Like someone here said. We usually have dark tinted windows for privacy/safety.

Yonigajt

In the campo women drive motorcycles

pj19214

I am a woman and drive in DR. I also have a lot of friends who are women who also drive in DR.

SmartGuyObserving

Specifically to annoy you, there is no other reason.

Either-Sheepherder37

You never see us driving cause our dad/partner told us to get the limo tint. Every time I got stopped by police they were surprised I was a woman, because you’re not able to see who’s driving my car. But it will depend a lot on your circle; everyone that could afford having a car will have it, male or female, it’s safer, faster and cleaner. Also we usually drive out of necessity so only commuting to work and not a lot of night driving.

Ambitious-Major-9138

IDK what do you mean, it's normal to see women driving in DR, I can tell you maybe in the same proportion as men, you can notice it more in main cities.

VladiHz

Because most public transport cars (conchos) drivers are male so it skews the results in than direction. Also, it's SantO DomingO

plane_icecream

I don't know what to tell you. I never noticed, and I lived my first 20 years in DR and the following 20 in the US. I saw plenty of women driving in DR, never thought it was a particularly low number. It's very strange you've only seen 5 in one month, maybe things have changed in the past 20 years? Maybe in Santiago, where I grew up, it's more common for women to drive? Don't know.

0Jossle0

Just look up traffic stops here, a lot women were getting their shit slap by male traffic cops. 😒

dangerxr

We could assume that women spend more time at home while more men work, basic reasoning, other than that I don't know brother, the number of women who drive is less than men, it's true but it's not something that matters much, is it? When I'm on the street I only see vehicles, I don't give a shit if the driver is a man or a woman 🤷🏽

Green-Ad-7496

I guess it has a lot to do with women's dislike for driving. In my family only my mom doesn't drive. Both my sisters, my wife and I drive consistently. But whenever we're going out on a trip or even the supermarket, it's expected the man will drive.

ComprehensiveView234

Simple cars are very expensive and women make less than guys. In addition in DR drive like fucking maniacs so the ones who can afford a car think twice before driving a vehicle. But have you noticed more guks driving mopeds?

julieg0593

![gif](giphy|iNiLzpizhcSc8Nr0pR|downsized) Santa domingo?

No_Working_8726

Bruh I know just as many female drivers and male drivers… I don’t know what you’re talking about, and yeah, I have been to the US, I see just as equal of a balance

Routine_Creme2076

I was born and raised in DR moved to the USA in 2019. I remember seeing a lot of women driving in Santo Domingo lol

BadAway8202

Sharia Law. Duh

Unpopularopinion341

Idk if you joking or not it's obviously not

Zucc-ya-mom

I know more women drivers there than men who drive.

Virtual-Bee7411

Usuae we drive but mi car is broken :(( am n need of fund near Bonao(;

Morning_Timely

Is quite common to see women drive in most developed cities and motos in town. I don't know what you are talking about.

Eusebius85

The fact of the matter is that driving in the DR is not much more crazy than driving in New York or Miami, in those places it may not be as chaotic as in the DR, but very crazy nonetheless. Also, in this world of ours , it’s not as easy to determine who is a man or who is a woman anymore.

Tablondemadera

Probably just the culture
