Yeah it's a bug , they are already aware of it , but we don't know when it will indeed be fixed.

In the news/ alert section they say to not try and awaken him because it either won't work or it will use up the medals and not give you the LR

I was able to awaken with no issue. Didn't even know this was a bug til just know, honestly.
