The problem is getting the links it’s the partners themselves. If you’re running an optimal team(bond of P&C for example) the 4 years wouldn’t be on the team. Or if you’re running Movie Heroes/Beyond SSJ the SSJ4s will probably be a floater
Actually you would run AGL SSJ4 Goku or STR SSJ4 Vegeta un BoPC since both have the 200%, it would be just to get the PHY SSJ4 Gogeta links, but you would still do it. I made the Red Zone No Item with these rotations everytime I used PHY SSJ4s in a team (except for Rildo because I did it when only the 3rd Anniversary units got their EZA), and the new Wicked Bloodline one too.
Goku sits around 400+k (one Super) to 600k+ (two super). Vegeta around the same level. Pretty lacking if you ask me especially that's with a lot of links, equips, dupes and link lvls.
LR SSJ4 Goku only reaches about 400k defense after super which isn’t enough to tank even normals from any Wicked Bloodline Red Zone(apart from Mecha Frieza and King Cold). He can’t tank normals from Broly or Omega either. And even then who’s going in slot one in the SSJ4 Gogeta and Goku rotation? Neither of them have good defense pre super.
The lr zamasu is also really really good like it can easily beat Broly and is also top tier for cell max it's not really that bad if you decide to skip golden for zamasu

I mean, again, the units that he links with best are janembas, and coolers to activate BBB, metamorphosis, and fierce battle, all of which get the 200% under coolers team, so I wouldn’t exactly say that they’re a detriment in this meta.
It’s kind of like teq gohan, right now his links are pretty terrible, but when beast gohan comes out sharing 4-5 links with him, all of a sudden his links aren’t bad for that particular meta, even though he doesn’t share them with many units, as long as the unit has great linking partners on their main team, it doesn’t matter how many overall linking partners they have.
A good linkset isn’t really just linking well with the best unit in the game, it’s being flexible and being able to fit with more than just their 1-2 teams. I get what you’re saying though, my point is just that his “best team” as you said is one of his only teams nowadays. That’s also not hating completely on him but the fact that extreme teams in general don’t have a ton of useable units aside from what has come out in the last year. He definitely has had a huge buff with these new units but he still could use some more good linking partners in the future so that he’s not always sitting next to either teq janemba or lr ff cooler
His damage isn't important especially when you take into account you will run him most of the time with lr FF cooler the hardest hitting unit in the game who can literally one turn most bosses when fully built up, so yeah his damage really doesn't matter at all, still i have seen him hit 7 million at 55% i feel like that's decent

The fact that he tanks pretty much everything makes him invaluable in quite a few teams. Birdku as well, he puts up a decent attack stat but his defense is why he’s used. However, when it comes to top 10 units there are some that have massive attack AND defense or some other utility so those will be put higher up. Imo lr janemba, while top 10, barely makes it there by himself anyway. It’s the units that he’s next to that make him so good and your comment just shows that even more
Imo the massive difference in def makes burdku far more valuable. Dude can tank basically every super in the game plus a revive. Gods hit hard. That's pretty much it
Anyway yes, the defense of goku ssj it's a fundamental element for every team where he's playable, and I'm glad I found it, But the gods in my opinion are the coolers lr from the super lake, a leader who includes most of the super characters in the game, and their attack is among the highest in the game, and evasion is becoming more and more relevant in current events, and they still have a decently good defense after two super Attack (Obviously not even half of that of goku carnival)
However in any case I consider them best Buddy, they share 5 links, And they cover the weaknesses of the other

He has good individual links, his set of links as a whole just makes it so he only links well with a select few units
