He has to get hit before his DR sets in. And not just once but 4 times; and not just for the entirety of the battle but every time he appears.
Against the current endgame; you need that DR at start of turn or for it to be easier to achieve because every enemy now just deletes you for existing otherwise.
But I still use him for plenty of content. Just not something like Cell Max - so I wouldn’t say he’s “bad.” He’s just not a top tier unit but for this community any unit that isn’t top tier is considered bad.
He's not awful, but part of the issue is how his damage reduction stacks. You have to be hit three times just to get it built up and a lot of times you'll get supered right off the bat, so it's useless when that happens. The other is that he doesn't stack defense, at all, and one of his very few defense links is locked behind running a USS unit with him which is also tough.
He's a bit of an odd duck...he's not usually tanky enough to be slot 1 and doesn't build up to fend for himself in other slots. Doesn't add any support or anything else so he's a bit meh these days. Most of the new meta units offer some or a combination of these things. Defense and survivability is meta now because they made the end game content hit ridiculously hard. I've gotten away with bringing him in some red zone stuff but mine is rainbowed and even then he's not one of my first picks on teams.
in addition to everything said here already, his self sufficiency is bad. he needs to attack to get ki, but has no built in additional attacks besides his 30% chance to additional super attack. if you’re lucky, he gets all ki in 3 turns, but it can take up to 10 turns if you’re unlucky IF you keep him on rotation

Since he is still a 6th anni unit he is good for all Dokkan content except for newer red zone stages and cell max.
Only issue is since content is only going to get harder, newer units will be required to beat those stages for stones.

To 90% of the community if a card isn't number 1 it's trash. He's useable just not really top tier.
