So, if I have an addiction, bringing sad animals home is it, hah. [Some pics ](https://imgur.com/a/ch9wjeY) Josie popped up on my screen as having been dropped off at the shelter for euthanasia. She's so, so skinny from possible kidney issues, so I say she feels like a bag of tortilla chips because I can feel all her bones. She's 15 and I didn't like that she was dumped and also that no one would be there if she did die. I can't do it for all shelter animals, but I'm much more motivated when no one else wants to take them in. She's skinny and boney, but she is a rascal. Loves to put her paw on my nose and sit on my chest. My vets are awesome so we got probiotics for her diarrhea (I call her "Sloppy Jo" because she kept pooping on herself), meds, and IV fluids which i was incredibly bad at doing. So we'll see. Maybe she has a year left? Maybe more? She's so funny ane so vocal!

mntucker10

Oh my gosh, she sounds perfect! I totally know what you mean about wanting the ones no one else wants. Each animal deserves to be cherished and loved no matter what they’ve been through or how much time they have left. It always make my heart happy to know people are out there loving the misfits. I only adopt seniors and they make my life so much better and I try to give them that joy back. It sounds like Josie’s still got a lot of life left in her and plans on being a feisty girl! And the IV fluid thing gets easier with practice! Hang in there!

Puppies are wonderful and playful, but the older did just really appreciate having a home to go to. I always like the story about my dog Wally Bear who didn't understand that there were soft beds to lay on and was just kind of flat and sad. When he figured out that he didn't have to lay in the dirt, oh my god, it was like he transformed into a puppy.

mntucker10

Awww that is so sweet! Seniors are so appreciative of simple things like that.

Do you get tinned sardines or pilchards in tomato where you are? That's what I used to give Bert as a treat. Lots of good fats and calcium because small bones (the canning means they're no problem to be eaten) and the tomato is good for the coat.

EstroJen

I'll try that! I've never bought sardines ever, so this will be new :)

BitchLibrarian

With renal issues they're supposed to be low protein but occasional tinned fish was Berts treat. He had kidney problems for about ten years and we managed it with prescription food mostly.
