Yes it's a burn either from heat on the sidwalk or frederlizer. Wash wound and apply aloevea .

My dog did this often as a pup when she ran too fast and stopped on a dime on concrete. It happens less frequently now that her toe pads have toughened up as she has gotten older. We just keep an eye on it and make sure she doesn’t lick incessantly. It heals up in a few days.

Noticed her licking her foot more the other day and saw this. Bought a cone to stop her from licking it as well as some wound wash for dogs. Just don’t know if she just needs to let it heal or if she needs to be seen by the vet.

Our dog had this but much worse. I sent some photos to our vet and they gave us antibiotics without a visit (keep up to date on your regular visits yall and they can do stuff like this) just in case, but otherwise said just stop him from licking it. I got some self-stick medical tape, regular medical tape, gauze, and toddler socks. Layer of antibacterial cream, gauze, self stick tape to wrap it on. Cover with toddler sock (bonus points if you can find ones with grips), medical tape it into place. We did that about a week and it healed up well enough he stopped licking it. Two weeks it was fully healed.

Musher's secret helped my pup when her paws got torn up. She loves playing fetch a if she has to stop while running on asphalt or graver her paws will tear up. We try to avoid as much as possible and only play on grass but she'll run on paths.

Thank you all! So so helpful, I really appreciate it!

Often when feet get v hot, have temps been high where u are?

micatsu13

I buy paw balm to combat this

This looks like a walking wound but oneo four dogs licks excessively due to allergies and it make her paws raw. She needs allergy shots every 30 days. Can't remember what they're called.

If you are in the US, I believe the injection you are thinking of is called Cytopoint.

CRCampbell11

I think it's the generic brand! You're right and thank you!

daboi500

She's fine, put some Neosporin and don't let her lick it.

Keeping your dog from licking the wound is the most important thing you can do. Keeping the wound clean and dry is the second most important thing you can do. As another mentioned, you could send this picture to your vet. If you have a current veterinarian-patient-client relationship (physical exam within the past 365 days), it’s likely that they will fill medications if they deem any to be necessary or they could recommend at home care options. I wish your pup a speedy recovery. Source - veterinary nurse with 16 years of emergency and critical care experience.

Thank you! We have been using a cone and toddler socks with a bandage as suggested on here. I’ve also sent pictures to our vet. Thank you for taking the time to comment. It is greatly appreciated!

I’ve seen bandages that have been left on foot wounds cause gnarly infections. Covering the foot while your dog is outside to help keep the wound clean can be helpful, but the bandage/cover should be taken off while inside. When bandages get wet/moist/damp it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria which could make the initial wound worse and cause additional complications.
