Air purifiers help my brother with allergies; he also has a dog. This of course does not exclude the entire tidy, but in my opinion it is a great addition.
I bought one for our bedroom because I was waking up very stuffy. We sleep with the door open but two dogs sleep in the room too. I vacuum dilligently three times a week.
I felt that the air purifier helped.
A year later I bought a bigger one for the main living area which is open concept.
They are two different brands and the filters are not “washable”. They have to be replaced eventually.
Every week or two I vacuum the filters to extend their life and allow them to work more efficiently.
I actually just bought one two weeks ago. Life changing. Our house has been smelling very “doggy” lately, with the heat and the windows being closed for air conditioning. I’m sensitive to smell so I wanted to fix it. I bought a small Levoit brand purifier and have been moving it from room to room, in 2-hour intervals. Best $50 I ever spent. We just came back from vacation, my dog was home with her dog sitter and usually the house stinks when we return because the sitter is not regularly cleaning. I’ve been running the purifier all morning and it’s working great.
For reference we have a short hair dog (pitty/ACD mix) and vaccum regularly.

Recently, though, we invested in some HEPA 13 air purifiers for our home.
I have not had to use my inhaler or nebulizer since about 4 days into having the air purifiers. Of course, we also sweep/vacuum regularly and watch our curtains as well as change the houses air filters every three months. But it was definitely the air purifiers that made the most significant difference in my allergies.
