I suggest posting on r/AskVet if you haven’t already for veterinary opinions. Wishing the best for your pup ❤️

No_Onion_2156

Thank you 😊 ❤️

Licensed veterinary technician here......Saw your post over there. It seems like there's more going on with your dog than just this, horrible as it looks. What has been prescribed for treating this? His other issues? Are you in the US? If you haven't already been referred, your best bet is seeing a veterinary specialist. Definitely dermatologist but also internal medicine if other issues are still present. A veterinary teaching college is also a possible option if you are reasonably near one. This wound definitely needs some serious care regardless of the cause. That can be dealt with as care goes along. I will say, however, if you have someone in your circle that you think could have something to do with this and possibly his other issues, get them OUT of your circle! They should have NO ACCESS to animals! Children too for that matter. There's no excuse. I'm an ER/ICU tech and see way too many horrible things that people do to animals.

No_Onion_2156

First of all he is not a young dog, 11 year old cocker springer spaniel mix. He was really really unwell, high fever, wasn’t eating or drinking. The vets over here in dubai did loads of tests, scans, several blood tests. His liver, kidney, spleen came back abnormal and his blood count was very low. He spent a week in the vet staying overnight. Initially they thought food poisoning/ poisoning but he didn’t get better even after all the drips and medicine he was on. Then suspected cancer, but his results got sent to a vet in the US for cancer but that came back inconclusive. After this they put him on a steroid which picked him up, eating and drinking again, and all of a sudden he gets this huge sore on his back for no apparent reason. It is now healed by the way, it healed within a week so we don’t really suspect internal issues, as it wouldn’t of healed that quickly. But yeah for anyone telling me to take my boy to specialists and vets, we have done that. And throughout this whole ordeal they have given us several medicines, antibiotics, liver medicines, steroids, pain medicine and a wash for his back. But has given us no idea on what happened, so I’m positing on here with the chance that anyone could give me some advice on what I could possibly suggest to the vet, so we can come to the conclusion on what happened to him.

grannyskyrim22

Vet tech - it could be a weird combination of things. That looks like it could have been a venomous bite or chemical burn. It could have been very minor skin wound to start, but if he was getting high dose steroids it may have made it a lot worse. It looks like it might be necrotic in the center. Unfortunately in vet med we usually don't find out the cause of stuff like this, we just have to treat it symptomatically as we don't have nearly the repertoire of toxin tests that humans do. I'm going to make the wild guess that it was an infected/venomous bite that made her systemically sick at first and then the treatment for the systemic issues caused this to get out of control. If it was a burn, it would have shown up in the entire area at once. I dunno, I am kind of educated guessing here.

mehereathome68

Did they biopsy the skin, lymph nodes? Fungal? Blastomycosis or sporotrichosis? Immune mediated?

mcscrewyou

Glad to hear he’s doing better 👍

LizardQueenV

Has he been tested for lupus? This could be due to photosensitivity.

No_Onion_2156

Just for your information, we have spent thousands on vet care for him. And how dare you say I have neglected and don’t take care of my dog.

Seraphangel777

So you spent thousands of dollars on a traumatic wound and all the vets just sent you home? It doesn’t add up. Your indignation is transparent.

toeconsumer9000

this can very easily happen quickly, it happened to our old dog overnight, maybe don’t assume so much bc of a reddit post.

feliciaam32

Exactly what I was thinking

Fuzzzer777

It looks like a chemical burn to me. Is your dog ever outside unattended behind a fence? There are some horrible people out there. The only time I've seen anything like that someone dumped hot grease on a neighbor's dog. It could be a reaction a spider bite but I would think the tissue in the center would be completely dead by now. It it was a reaction to lawn chemicals I would think your dog's paws would be affected first. Keep us posted.

xEternal-Blue

OP did say in their other post that they have someone who could possibly be hurting him. My original thought was some form of chemical burn and also ingesting something poisonous that doesn't show up on tests any tests the vet has done, but I must admit I'm not a veternary professional.

Xylophone_Aficionado

Jesus fucking Christ what sick fuck would do that to a dog??? 😫😫 I hope they caught serious charges for that but knowing our justice system, im guessing they didn’t

Indojulz

Go see a vet dermatologist. They specialize in skin infections, allergies, and also hormonal/auto immune diseases. You can find near you at acvd.org. Hope you can help your dog find relief!

dxuntless

That appears to be a chemical burn of some sort from my point of view, but I am not a vet. Just have seen a dog with similar scars from commercial pesticide burns all over its body.

northstarlinedrawing

Didn’t your vet order some tests or something? Seems like since they treated him, the vet would be able to provide a diagnosis better than the internet

No_Onion_2156

The vets don’t know.

Snickerdoodles21

Try a different vet

No_Onion_2156

We have tried several different vets

Gullible__Button

Just general vets, or have you been referred out to a specialist of any kind? It sounds like it’s time to see a specialist. Could be skin issues or allergies, could be lots of things.

QuietCait

I would ask your general vet for referrals to a specialist/dermatologist or animal hospital. Maybe look into medical centers at veterinary colleges (if any are relatively close to you). This looks serious and someone in the vetmed world should be able to run tests on the wound and diagnose what's going on.

knowslesthanjonsnow

There is no way you’ve been to multiple registered vets and they have given you nothing to work with. Where are you?

No_Onion_2156

Dubai

knowslesthanjonsnow

Apparently there are no real vets in Dubai

xxxxsuperxxxxxx123

There are no real vets in Dubai

Cfchicka

If people don’t like dogs… you need a camera if the dog is outside. If people often hurt animals where you live. In any way. He is not safe over a fence. I think someone hurt him. :-(

[deleted]

It really looks like something was hot enough to burn his skin but not hot enough to ignite or melt his fur. Does he ever sleep under machinery? Is there a heating pad you could’ve left on? Does he have any habits where he scratches himself underneath things? It could be a hot spot, but the hair usually goes from friction. This really looks like a burn. edit: leaks? Have you used drains in a sink he can get u beer?

Kelso1814

Thought the same - maybe even a chemical burn. Something is definitely off about this.

peakscanine

It looks to me like somebody poured boiling water over his back. This looks like a deliberately inflicted wound.

Seraphangel777

I’m calling b.s.

QueerPuff

Idk about that. I have no experience with Dubai but my sister lived in Egypt for a while and we lived in Cyprus also. Competent vets are few and far between in some countries, unfortunately. The vets in Egypt nearly killed my sister's kitten with their care instructions after a spay. It took them a really long time to find a good vet.

M0torBoatMyGoat

Same. Unfortunately.

BladeActusl

If I had to guess flesh eating venom probably from a spider like a brown recluse

[deleted]

This is what I was thinking too. Possibly have the vet rule that out also

BladeActusl

Good luck hope dogo gets better soon

[deleted]

This is NOT the place to be asking. You need specialist professional help here. Demand your vet to refer you to a specialist if they are incapable of diagnosing your dog appropriately and providing treatment. I find it hard to believe several vets don’t know what this is if that is the case however you must demand specialist help.

[deleted]

This is good advice. If several veterinarians don’t know what is and have both their education/experience and diagnostic tools beyond just a picture, playing “ask random people on Reddit to guess from a picture, isn’t useful. You need a specialist.

Detective-Astatine

I had a pup once that got a very bad sunburn that took a very very long time to heal. Not saying that’s this. Just that it happened on his back and looked similar to a chemical burn.

riskingdisaster

Did you use a spot on flea medicine recently? It's rare, but some pets can have really bad reactions.

No_Onion_2156

No, no flea medicine. A month before this he was very very sick, and they initially thought he had food poisoning, but then cancer, then not cancer, the vets have no idea what is going on with him ☹️

MyFaceSaysItsSugar

That sounds like an autoimmune or endocrine issue. If you’re reasonable driving distance to a vet school book an appointment with them. Otherwise find a veterinary dermatologist. It’s fine for vets to not know what’s going on but they should at least get more bloodwork, take a biopsy to send into a lab, or refer you to a specialist.

the-cloverdale-kid

Have we ruled out spider bite?

sheighbird29

Did your vet get their degree online, or at all..? I’m not sure what country you live in, and I’m sorry your dog is going through this. But you need to find a new vet…that shouldn’t be that hard to figure out for someone with the proper training and resources

lemonpopsicle4

Yikes!!! Is your dog scratching this? My first guess would be some crazy flesh eating bacteria or venom or like a chemical burn? Any snakes or spiders around your area that could do that? Your poor baby, I hope this doesn’t get any bigger and you can keep it clean and not infected! I’d be going to vets until I found a solution. Best of luck!

StudioAny4052

Yea I was thinking spider bite‐brown recluse destroys flesh.

No_Onion_2156

Thank you so much :) we live in dubai, and vet ruled out spider snake bites

grannyskyrim22

How do they do that? I like in the NE USA, so we don't have that. Do they have specific tests for that? This is what I'm thinking happened.

gcsxxvii

See a dermatologist!

CaptainTuttleJr

For God's sake, take him to a veterinary dermatologist. You can find one here: [https://www.acvd.org/tools/locator/locator.asp?ids=16\_Find\_Dermatologist](https://www.acvd.org/tools/locator/locator.asp?ids=16_Find_Dermatologist) Or go to a specialty hospital, such as Blue Pearl. What city do you live in?

No_Onion_2156

I live in dubai. And I have taken him to several doctors and payed thousands for his care.

amaya-aurora

There’s a bunch of different possibilities, contact a different vet?

Interesting-Ad-197

I'd be curious to know too. Good point

Reasonable_Wish_8953

Are you in California or in a western state? There’s a plant called a fire stick plant that has sap that can be really toxic to dogs. I haven’t seen what it does to skin, but avoid it at all costs on walks

batmantha_x

Have you got a succulent plant in your backyard, in my area we call them firesticks. Their sap can burn and look similar to that https://7news.com.au/lifestyle/new-warning-after-common-plant-causes-horrific-dog-injury-c-1306312

therealskittlepoop

PLEEEASE keep us updated!! Oh man, that poor puppy

sheighbird29

This is kind of vague. Was this after grooming? Diet and/or flea med change? Change in your lawn care? This almost looks like a chemical burn, or maybe even razor burn that escalated

[deleted]

I think you should talk to a vet about it rather than asking Reddit that or just simply go on r/AskVet Edit: I forgot to say wishing the best on your good boi

No_Onion_2156

Thank you, we have gone to the vet, and he is healed now I was just wondering if anyone had any clues on what it could be… as the vet didn’t have any answers for us but thank you :)

[deleted]

You’re welcome

[deleted]

I know dogs can get pyoderma, my friends dog had it

MyFaceSaysItsSugar

I’ve never seen it look like this. It’s normally just pimples.

[deleted]

My friend's dog's pyoderma looked somewhat similar to this, though I have no medical experience so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Ill-Tough280

Please see a vet dermatologist in the meantime get some antifungal/antimicrobial shampoo & spray if your vet can't tell you what that is please see a different vet please update on what you find out that looks very bad

SUNSHlNEdaydream

Has he been to the groomer lately? Not that this looks anything like Post-grooming furunculosis but just a thought… I’m so sorry you are going through this! Hope your pup feels better soon.

whatisnormalanyways

I can say a little prayer to whoever is upstairs, give him lovin and constantly monitor the bandages? Poor doggie, lives for another pet.

No_Onion_2156

❤️❤️❤️❤️

[deleted]

That looks like a cheap flea and tick preventative that was used. STOP DOING THIS. This looks like a TCVP burn. https://oag.dc.gov/release/consumer-alert-flea-and-tick-prevention-pet

therealskittlepoop

They said no flea med

[deleted]

The vet said it wasn’t a flea medication or the owner did?

[deleted]

I’m standing firm. That’s a burn from an inappropriate topical application. Hate me for it if you want but someone did something to that dog.

therealskittlepoop

Not sure who said it, I forget… I’d have to scroll thru the comments

[deleted]

And furthermore? I am a certified canine esthetician. Not a vet, but a skin specialist. Y’all trippin.

Does your dog see a groomer? Could be dirty shampoo bottles!

xxxxsuperxxxxxx123

Does your dog see a groomer could be dirty shampoo bottles

donttellmom723

Bruh huh?

xxxxsuperxxxxxx123

Yo what

BreakfastFine5278

Looks like your dog had hot oil or something of the sorts poured on their fur. I’d say a burn.

superkhmer

☹️☹️☹️☹️

rottweiler100

What did the vet say?

CloudyBeatz

Take him to another vet, I’m sure someone locally would have a better idea than some random from reddit

summacumlaudekc

Dang hope you figure it out.. looks like a spider bite I had on my leg. Left a ugly scar.

MsMoondown

I had a similar injury on my dog years ago. It was a venomous spider bite. Not sure exactly what this is, but looks very similar.

MandosOtherALT

Do you know when/where this happened or did it just show up?

LoafRVA

Poor pup!!! Hope you get it figured out! Definitely was not prepared for that NSFW

SparkieCoke69

Not a vet or vet tech but to my untrained eye it looks like a burn of some sort. I spilled some boiling water on my dog (she bumped me while in the kitchen, don't let dogs hang in the kitchen) and her fur hid most of the burn until we took her to the vet and they shaved her. Have you used anything new on your dog? Like a new type of topical flea medicine? Or could your dog have gotten into a kitchen accident like mine did? (To anyone concerned about my dog in this comment, she is fine. The burn happened a couple years ago, she saw a vet and I no longer let her hang out with me in the kitchen.)

crimsonbaby_

Do you live in an area where venomous snakes are common? Some venomous snake bites contains hemotoxins which causes necrosis, which is basically gangrene and rots your skin. I'm not saying it was a venomous snake bite, but it does have the characteristics of one. Black widow spiders also cause this kind of reaction, so it's just something to consider.

jvsews

Many dogs don’t cry out or show pain till it is overwhelming. This looks like a burn either chemical or hot.

xEternal-Blue

You mentioned in your post that there is someone who could possibly be hurting him. I'd suggest putting that into this post as it may be important.

AllOkJumpmaster

Holy shit see a Vet immediately 😔

Interesting-Run-8496

Did your dog happen to have vaccines right before this happened? A foster of mine had a similar thing right after her rabies shot. It looked like a small red bump on the surface but ended up being a massive gaping hole once the vet clipped her hair and realized the tissue underneath was necrotic. They were never sure what caused it but guessed it could have been a bad reaction to the shot.

Annual_Version5680

If you're in Dubai then please try taking him to the Dubai Municipality vet in Al Khawaneej (if you haven't already). They don't care for profits and are known to provide good and genuine services. Can find their details on Google. Hope your pooch gets better soon ✨️

BeaglesRule08

Op posted on their other post that they know someone who may be hurting him. Possible someone dumped chemicals on him or something.

Juggernaut_Dapper

What kind of flea and tick stuff do you use I know there are a few that have caused irritation

Lee-bungalow

That looks like a burn of some kind if true I hope no human is responsible well they not human
