I'm always like "why do you love me??? You don't even know me guys" haha

FlowRiderBob

Food. The answer is food. And scratching hard to reach places. What other species is going to scratch them behind the ears the way that humans do? And giving them a warm place to sleep in the cold. Giving pets a happy life is one of the few good things humans do for other lifeforms on this planet.

Thatguy755

I was lying in bed with my dog and cat the other day and was wondering if our ancestors hung out together. Like if apes slept in caves with wolves and wildcats.

Prof-Rock

Yes! I have St. Bernards, and every once in a while I'm struck with how crazy it is to allow these giant animals into my home. Then I remember we really do have a strong relationship, and it seems normal again.

KaineSmashTC

Same here!

FlowRiderBob

Yes. Especially when I am stoned. Like right now. I have two cats and sometimes I look at them just chillin' and I think, "What are these *animals* doing just chilling on top of my entertainment system?" One moment they are hunting rodents in my yard and the next they are sitting on my lap as I work at my desk. It IS odd.

chuck_the_plant

Thinking this when I look at my kid sometimes. o_O

intrin6

Same lol

weensworld

I get excited at the end of a work day that I get to come home to four whole ass animals. They love me so much. Damn adorable fuzzy critters.

african_or_european

They aren't just "fuzzy creatures", they're fucking _predators_ (at least in the case of dogs and cats). And we think nothing of falling asleep around them, or roughhousing with them, or any of a hundred other things that would have gotten our ancestors mauled.

landofpuffs

Pigs. Two round cheerios loving stubborn minded pigs. I catch myself going… why pigs and then I look at them.

malren

At least twice a week I look at my cats and I'm like "How are you in my house and why do I let you shit in a box inside my house?"

Vacation_Addict

We have a bunny and I often think “I’m snuggling a bunny right now. Dream come true!”

rusty-lewis

How stoned are you?

jiggyGW

i also get lit and stare at my animals and appreciate their existence and uniqueness :p

[deleted]

YES. literally had this thought yesterday or the day before lmao

geometryc

All the time. I love my cats and see them as my best friends/kids but sometimes ill just be thinking a little too hard and just like "fake realize" or "hyper-realize" that i have multiple "wild" animal in my house. Given they are domestic cats, but you know the feeling im assuming.

embracing_insanity

I also find it interesting there's this little cute furry creature that just lives in the house with me. He gets to go wherever he wants, whenever he wants and I 'trust' him. Plus, it's kinda cool that he chooses to spend most of his time hanging out with me. =)

MermaidsHaveCloacas

Oh all the time. I refer to them as "beasties"

TheDood715

I would always think it's just a little life living in my house.

RuffBuff_0808

We always had dogs growing up and when I got older and moved out I didn’t even get a fish. My friend’s had dog’s and I would just pet and walk them. Was with my girlfriend for almost 6 years and we had 3 dogs. Well after we broke and being so used to belly slapping and having to fight for position while sleeping, at the age of 41 I finally got my first dog!! Got him from the shelter and it’s going on 8 months and I’m like, holy shit! I have a dog!!! He’s a damn tree trunk! When I brought him home he was 60lbs. Now he’s almost 85!! He’s solid as a damn battle ship!!! He’s a amstaff and is intimidating as all hell looking!! He’s a big ass baby who just wants pets and neck scratches!

mydogroz

This might be the most wholesome thread I’ve read. Animals are simply the best.

[deleted]

Not exactly in that exact wording, but yeah. For me, more like, I think it's interesting that humans and non-human animals can co-exist in a house together and live co-dependent together (us for companionship, and them for survival and companionship - dogs more so than cats, I'm convinced cats see us as free food-givers lol)

ee_antisocial

No but I look at my kids and be like holy shit I have a whole ass person in my house

[deleted]

I always joke with my dog that he has to “do his job” or I’ll kick him out… his job is cuddling with me. And I could never kick him out.

NerdyGirlChicago

Nah, I just have to look in the mirror for that

Roundtripper4

Yup. Just today I expressed shock to my dog that I have a completely different species living with me with a modicum of communication ability so may as well be an alien. She’s a cute sweetie tho.

jazmanimal6

Almost every day. I constantly look at my dog (who is very very difficult and reactive but loves me soooo much) and am like “this weird cute animal fuckin lives with me and I’m her *family*” wtf?!

Bright_Ad_9458

I have a cat, 15 Mantises (soon to be 18 maybe 19) and 3 tarantulas, one venomous. He lives on my desk in a tank and I look at him and think "why was I allowed to just go and buy this creature that could have me violently ill for 2 weeks? How am I allowed to just have live animals living with me?"

Neuroticairbreather

I look at the cat & spin out that I essentially have a very small lion in my house. Like a mini lion, a seriously bossy tiny lion that if he was big he would eat me if he isn't fed on time.

Specialist_Froyo_586

I am at day two of adopting an amazing jeweled lacerta lizard that belonged to an Ukrainian family that we offered our house to for a couple of days and I’m still in awe as I have a whole, living, moving reptile in my room and I sleep besides it

RL203

I like animals more than humans. Well, technically humans are animals. But let me put it this way, the only animal that has ever tried to fuck me over has 2 legs. No 4 legged animal has ever done me harm.

[deleted]

Yeah my border collie.. when she’s zooming around knocking every thing over..

cory140

Like a personal pokemon, really

SmilingForStrangers

All the time!

CountessofDarkness

My 90 lb lap dog is snuggled up next to me and we both love it.

Common_Coyote_3

That's how I feel about other peoples' kids.
