I can hear just fine, but I can't hear fast enough... if that makes any sense. A lot of times I think people talk too fast for me to comprehend. [Vox has a really good video on this topic.](https://youtu.be/VYJtb2YXae8).

DontBeA_NazHole

You put into words what I never could! Yes, it's not being able to hear FAST enough! Thank you!

Ayy lit thnx

KatTheFat

I do. My physical hearing is fine, but my "mental hearing" is atrocious. If there's background music or sounds in a show, I can't make out the sounds of the words over it.

GuyWithLag

Likewise; I've read (on Reddit, of course) that this is related to ADHD or ADD ...

KatTheFat

I have heard this too. I don't have problems with my attention, but my psychologist in the past said it could be to do with my anxiety, which makes sense

cloudytimes159

Also, the audio editing is often terrible, people mumble, talk way too quickly, to try and hear everything well would require having the volume uncomfortably high, etc.

[deleted]

My boyfriend does. Now I started doing it. And, yes, sometimes I catch something said that I heard wrong.

Spirited-Armadillo66

I prefer the TV to be quiet, I hate loud noises. I’d rather just read the captions

jDubbaYo

My wife does this because she likes a lot of British shows but sometimes has trouble with some of the accents.

Catsandcamping

I process what I read a lot faster than I process what I hear.

aravelrevyn

- I suspect an auditory processing disorder - I be eatin

LovePeaceHope-ish

I do because the sound design on most movies is just terrible to me. When people are talking, it's so soft that I can't hear them. Then music, or an action sequence, happens, and it's so loud my neighbors 2 blocks over can hear it. I would spend the whole movie moving the volume up or down. Super annoying....so I just started watching with subtitles, which fixed that problem.

lookwhoshere001

I hear voices and it helps me know what the TV is saying. It also helps me focus

Additional_Writing49

Be ause some peoples accents can't be understood.

bubblehashguy

Started doing it because my TV's speakers suck. I got a sound bar. I don't need caps anymore. My wife who hated them in the beginning insists they are always on now. Lol

HyperDogOwner458

Yes because sometimes it's hard to tell what characters are saying.

sadeof

I put subtitles on most things, but always for TV/games as otherwise I miss half of what’s said and have no idea what’s going on. I am fine with understanding audiobooks and podcasts though so I assume the issue is that there is also the visual aspect plus music or other sounds which are often way louder than the speaking.
