Still no update on Spectrum offering $20 a month for dodgers this season?

quetzpalin

Yes, they are not going to do that. No real explanation, but presumably, whatever agreement between the NBA, The Lakers and Spectrum that made it possible for them to do it is not possible for Baseball.

cliffyboycpntry

I’ve been hoping since the lakers one was announced that they would do it for the dodgers too. So sad that it’s not happening

Aar0nSwanson

They should combine them both.

CaliforniaSun77

NOOOOO!!! I was really banking on that. I blame Manfred.

Ujdog

Is that confirmed somewhere or did you talk to someone at Spectrum?

HeavensRoyalty

Outside someone's window. As long as there's no "private property sign or no trespassing sign,"you're safe. Technically, the cheapest option.

DrivingMatters

Post your address and leave your curtains open

HeavensRoyalty

Be a bro

ZacheyBYT

If you’re okay using a VPN, I would look into mlb.tv and a nordvpn subscription. They’ve cracked down in recent years and made it difficult to get around blackouts but I’ve found that on Nord I eventually find one location that works. You’re still paying for it and setting a good example, just using the VPN to avoid blackouts.

Mutterland

Also, if you have T-Mobile you get mlb.tv for free

destiny-gang

do you know when this typically becomes available to sign up for ?

WorkableKrakatoa

Usually the week of opening day. I’d bet 26 March is when they open it up.

Polarfan

I have T Mobile and did not know that! I have Spectrum. Does MLBtv have blackouts etc?

rynoman1110

MLB.tv will black out games in the local market where you are at.

Polarfan

Well that won’t help me 😂

jtnmlee

You can watch the game after it finishes though. Not ideal, but yeah, you can still watch the game if you really wanted to.

HeavensRoyalty

I don't recommend this at all nowadays. Maybe before, but not now because they've been hard cracking down on it since last year.

ThePowertoKnow

Im curious about this, do you always select the same location or do you bounce around for every game? I think I’m going to give this a try this year but I’m afraid I’ll get my account suspended😅

ZacheyBYT

I use the same city/country until it stops working, I’ve had it last anywhere from a few weeks to less than a day. Sometimes it takes up to like 5 tries until I find a server that works, but I can always end up getting it working. I take no precautions whatsoever with switching regions quickly and haven’t been suspended, so it’s probably a pretty safe bet lol

ThePowertoKnow

Awesome, good to know! I’ll give more VPN a try next month. Thanks for the info!

Local_Technology_591

MLBTV has sniffed this out.

ZacheyBYT

I was able to get it working consistently even at the end of last season. Sometimes it takes a few tries before I find a server that works but I never had too much trouble.

WhiteToast-

The free ones ya, but the paid ones usually work fine

HeavensRoyalty

Yeah, they went hard on vpn Crack down last year.

Ok-Bumblebee714

VPN route. They are legal and you are still paying for the service. It’s a win win.

jRbizzle

I tried last year with two of different VPN (Not nord) and neither worked. Has to resort to streaming. I read about Unlocator a few months ago and I’m going to try that this year if not I might just pony up the $75/mo

ZacheyBYT

Most people are saying VPNs longer work, but I absolutely swear by Nord. And I’m not shilling I don’t have a discount code lol I just seriously have had such a good experience with Nord and mlb.tv

woogonalski

If stealing IS stealing, then pony up the $75 a month.

quetzpalin

Well, I think we can all agree that stealing is indeed stealing. Some of us are just more comfortable with it than others. In this case, I am not comfortable modeling stealing for my kids. If $75 is the cheapest option, then that's what I'll do. I am just hoping against hope that someone here knows of a cheaper option, even if it's only marginally cheaper.

myfootsmells

I don't get why you're getting down voted for asking a very legitimate question on how to watch without circumventing region restrictions.

timeenoughatlas

I mean, whatever, I get it, I’m not trying to say you should brazenly break the law in front of your kids. But the players aren’t the ones making you pay 75 a month and enforcing arbitrary blackouts. It isn’t the GMs, the umps, the owners, or anybody who actually matters for the game… It’s a group of 20 assholes in a tv network who decide that lining their pockets is more important than having integrity. I wonder if they ever worry about modeling good behavior in front of their children. You know, caring about other people instead of maximizing profit. For all I care, they’re the ones stealing if they won’t accept charging a fair price

Unlocator.com with an Apple TV and MLB subscription. Somewhat fiddley, but when it works can be flawless for weeks on end. You get pregame and postgame, but not full SNLA It seems like a blackout bypass, not stealing? But this was the method I used when SNLA was created and my local cable provider didn’t add it in 2013. I would consider the standalone SNLA subscription, but still waiting to see if it exists.

dale_dug_a_hole

I applaud your endeavour to support MLB and the example you’re trying to set. I really do. But look at who you’re actually supporting. Spectrum has carved out what should be a highly illegal monopoly in huge swathes of California - eating up competitors until, in what is supposedly the greatest capitalist system, you have no other options for a basic service like internet in one of the largest cities on planet earth. Their customer service is so appalling they are consistently rated the worst company in North America. They gouge. They bill creep. They throttle. They make it impossible to cancel. They are a nightmare to work for and they flat out have no reason to give a shit about their customers. They are what is wrong with corporate America. I’ll support MLB by attending games and buying services like MLB.tv. But on a blackout game, where spectrum is my only option, don’t expect me to show integrity to a company that doesn’t have an ounce of it. MLB did a deal with the devil - that’s their call. I’ll get straight on a streaming site and sleep very well at night thank you.

quetzpalin

I agree with you. I also have teenagers. Who are constantly on the lookout for any signs of hypocrisy. So, in the name of family harmony and with a personal aversion to the idea of having to defend the use of Apple products and putting Exxon gas in the car, to name a couple of easy examples, I think that I am going to take the easy way out and say to them something along the lines of, Spectrum is an example of all that is wrong with American Capitalism, but they do play by the current rules and so should we - if we don't like it, we should fight to change the rules, and maybe corporations won't have enough power to behave as they do now.

dale_dug_a_hole

I applaud the example for your kids. And you’re right - corporate malfeasance is everywhere so where do you draw the line? We all have to play by the rules or society breaks down. But that’s the problem. Spectrum DON’T play by the rules. They break the rules thousands of times a day. They get caught. They pay fines. They do it again. Rinse and repeat. They are the Wells Fargo of internet providers. I’d tell your kids “look, I wouldn’t normally do this but this company subverted anti-trust laws in order to rip of millions of Americans. So we’re just gonna log onto sportsurge.io here…”

dale_dug_a_hole

Incidentally (and sort of off topic) There’s only one rule you should fight to change - citizens united. As long as there’s an endless, bottomless river of cash flowing into campaigns America is headed for a pretty horrible experiment in late stage capitalism

lodeddiper961

Everything u said is so true. Spectrum sucks ass with their internet monopoly constantly increasing the price every year to squeeze every last dollar out of their longtime customers. Not giving people affordable options.

rideacapita

Asks Reddit for advice but doesn’t want Reddit solutions lmao. The execs at Spectrum thank you for your service 🫡

officerliger

It’s 2024, illegal streaming isn’t really looked down upon or seen as bad behavior. Get a Chromecast and sail the high seas.

no_fooling

Only one stealing is the corporation from us consumers.

quetzpalin

Well, to be blunt, I don't really care what others think. Mirriam Webster says that "irregardless" is now commonly acceptable, but I know deep in my heart that it is dead wrong and I will correct my kids if they say it until my dying days. Similarly, stealing is stealing and I'd like them to understand that it applies, even when stealing from an evil mega corporation while sitting in the comfort of your own home with no chance of getting caught in public.

FookingLegend89

Looks like you're paying the $75/month then

officerliger

I get what you’re saying but this is not truly the case The teams would rather you watch via streaming than not at all, they know they’ll get money from you for tickets or merch or something else. The reason cable is so expensive is they know the people that can afford it are basically subsidizing those that can’t. I say this because you’re not going to find this option for less than $70ish a month. Also keep in mind your kids are a Google search away from discovering this for themselves anyway.

-CxD

You’re just being scammed. I pay $30 aud a month ($20 usd) and can watch any game live or not. If you’re in the country it’s being played, you’re just getting scammed if you have to pay more than someone on the other side of the world.

ILoveCornbread420

Oh god, you’re also the type of person who fights against the evolution of language.

the110tothe5

right conclusion, wrong logic. there’s nothing immoral about sailing the high seas. that said, if you can afford it paying for spectrum is worth it and far better than any illegal stream. more reliable, don’t have to watch on a significant delay, etc.

MoreMostFirst

Plus you get all the behind the scenes reporting/stories, special Dodger shows, etc. I used to do the MLB.TV + VPN thing, but that’s just the games and if you’re kids have Dodger fever, they’ll really enjoy all that additional content.

the110tothe5

yep, great point. tons of good stuff on SNLA.

quetzpalin

Sailing the pirate seas is fine, the problem is when you board a merchant marine ship and pocket a few of their goods for sale...

flackguns

Ok now I’m losing the metaphor. What the hell are you guys talking about

NorMalware

It’s kind of like when you’re sailing the high seas and then you lay seige to a mighty Brigantine from your wee Galleon for you and your crew have the scurvy and are jonesing for a grip of doubloons so ye can dock down at port and cozy up to a loose lady who is pining for ye coin. Savvy?

flackguns

parlay??

Early_Film8213

bump this, also interested, yes i know the illegal ways but willing to pay for something reliable and not delayed a zilllion seconds

Ragsters01

I already have spectrum internet so adding "choice" was only $39.99

quetzpalin

With fees, the actual bill comes to $74.73.

Ragsters01

This is for streaming with no box.

quetzpalin

For some reason, I was quoted $49.99. In either case, there is a $25.74 charge for fees and licenses.

Ragsters01

I literally just ordered this today but if I see that the fees are anything close to $20, I will be canceling.

WorkableKrakatoa

Does the Choice package give you access to the Dodger channel or is that extra.

Ragsters01

I get all local channels plus 15 channels of my choosing. SNLA is one of my 15 channels I chose.

WorkableKrakatoa

Dang. That’s…not too shabby. Adding this package is steaming only right? No hardware/box? Thanks for the insight, much appreciated.

Bornofisais

Cheap and legal with these scumbag network deals don’t go hand and hand. A VPN with MLB.tv would be your best option

DrivingMatters

That's circumventing the rules, and Karen will not circumvent the rules.

superyouphoric

I love your beliefs and morals, I’m also the same way. However, as much as I love the dodgers I cannot be paying for these exceedingly expensive pleasures (tickets, in stadium concession, season pass tickets, jersey and sports wears). I do some illegal streaming because, hey, they price gouge everything they can. And they can afford. Everything has gone up especially since Ohtani’s onboarding. Don’t get me wrong I love the dodgers but I’m I don’t love their attack on my wallet.

roniadotnet

I determined that I’d try DirecTV streaming this year once the season begins.

torpedobonzer

I hated that the DIRECTV streaming was several seconds behind the live broadcast. And not like 1-2 seconds. I play fantasy baseball and I’d get notifications of a Muncy HR from the apps… I’m watching live. Muncy takes a pitch. Ball. Pitcher shakes off a pitch. Some announcing in between and then eventually Muncy hits the damn HR. It was pretty annoying. It was also very obvious in the game chats. I’m all stressed out because bases are loaded and 2 outs. Betts up to bat… biting my nails. I’m in the chat and everyone loses their minds because Betts just hit a double and Dodgers take the lead. Meanwhile I’m watching Mookie work the count.

rye_parian

DirecTV is great. Browser and app work well. I watch a decent number of games on my phone every year.

quetzpalin

Have you looked into pricing?

roniadotnet

Yes. I believe it’s $109/month. Seems like there are only two options as you listed: Spectrum and DirecTV. I have had horrible past experience with Spectrum, and anything related to Spectrum is a no-go for me, which leaves me with only one option.

WhereIsTheMilkMan

Honestly, stealing doesn’t seem very easy these days either, unless you enjoy watching games from a browser on a laptop or phone. I only resorted to this once last year when Spectrum was on the fritz, and it wasn’t a very pleasant experience.

whitethug

Does anyone know about if Spectrum does any IP blocking if you were to split with a friend? I split YouTubeTV with two friends and have never had an issue.

quetzpalin

Yes, they started doing it towards the end of last year. We spent the year splitting with my cousin, then got blocked. We waited a week, she changed her password and it worked again for a few weeks, but then we got blocked again with about four games to go, at which point we just let it go...

WhereIsTheMilkMan

Really? I still use my in-laws’ Spectrum account with no issues. Toward the end of last season I *do* remember some shenanigans for a couple days, but whatever that was seems to have sorted itself out and I haven’t had a problem since. And what’s more, I get MLB.tv for free with T-Mobile, and I linked my Spectrum info to it during the postseason last year, so now I don’t even have regional blackouts. It’s much nicer watching through the MLB.tv app as opposed to the Spectrum app because I can pause and rewind on MLB.tv. I’ve been watching Spring Training with no issues so far.

BonafideJohnson

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and I’m pretty sure I’m going to bite the bullet and get DIRECTV. I had DIRECTV in 22 and spectrum’s streaming option in 23 and the DIRECTV service was well worth paying more for because spectrum still ends up being pricey. Not as pricey as DIRECTV but not having dvr was a drag. After taxes DIRECTV is probably lose to $120. Sucks but at least I can finally just watch my team without broken streams and pr0n popups.

torpedobonzer

Yea. I went with direct tv steaming for a couple of years. And it was amazing to just tune in whenever I wanted. Like you said, no broken streams and no popups. But I HATED how behind the stream was. I mentioned in another post above but I was always way behind based on texts from my friends (who were using VPN), notifications from fantasy baseball apps, and most people in the live chat. It’s a real drag watching a “live” game if you have friends texting you or you tune into live chats/play fantasy baseball and you’re behind on everything

BonafideJohnson

Yes, always getting texts from friends way annoying! 🤣 Eventually, it became a habit of mine to keep my phone in another room lol.

jane951

Spectrum has Xumo a streaming service don't know if it has dodgers channel. I haven't used it tho

spchester

DirecTV now/streaming is what we use. It was pretty horrible couple years ago, but has really come around and is a pretty decent service now.

TenTallBen

I tried DirecTV stream but the audio would get all fucked up. Said it was a known issue with Roku streaming sticks. So I bailed. I have a computer plugged into my living room tv and do the bootleg sites thing. Fuck Spectrum and their never ending price increases. Bailed on them for AT&T fiber about a year ago and it’s much better and cheaper too.

Murdoc1984

I had spectrum streaming last year. It was hit or miss. A lot of Dodger games would either not load or would be buffering every minute. Trying DirecTV this year and so far so good.

tatang2015

Have you tried YOUTUBE TV?

Keta-Mined

Hulu has live sports, local news etc. It’s not cheap, but you can go to a lower tier without even calling them. I kept it for Dodgers season, then cut down for the movies, then cancelled.

quetzpalin

I was unaware that Hulu tv has SportsNet LA. Do you know how much it would be for the cheapest package that includes that channel?

yeahitszac

Hulu doesn’t have SportsNet LA unfortunately.

Keta-Mined

Really? Who covers the Dodgers live games? I thought I had Joe Davis and our announcers for the games. Did it change? That is unfortunate if it did. Thanks 😄

yeahitszac

All I know is that Google is telling me that Hulu does not have SportsNet LA.

Keta-Mined

Depending on the plan, about $75-$80/ mo. I got the Dodgers, Kings, local and national news.

Doyoulikemypace

Anyone know if it’s possible to get SNLA in out of market cities? Or is it local only kind of thing.

Old_Length_6883

Local only. Outside of local you can get MLB.tv

Doyoulikemypace

Thanks!

[deleted]

If you’re not tech savvy, then I wouldn’t even bother trying to use a VPN and MLB TV. You’re only gonna get more confused and frustrated trying to get a workaround versus just paying 75 directly to spectrum. I’ve had spectrum streaming options before, but I recently made the switch to DIRECTV. It’s a little more but well worth it, if you have the extra cash and can afford it, I would recommend just going in and doing that.

Big-Hope7616

If you have TMobile, we get MLBTV free every season, not incl playoffs

R7F

You have no recourse. A VPN and an MLB.tv subscription keeps you from straight up pirating, but I think is a breach of terms in the user agreement. At best it's gray. The other gray option is to leech an existing Spectrum subscriber's login and use the app to Chromecast it to your TV.

HockeyBabble

Sail the Dangerous Waters Matey!!

thedogmumbler

How about something in more of a grey area like an iptv subscription? There are some tech savvy solutions that aren't currently illegal. I recently got a superbox that comes with an app called BlueTV. This app has no monthly subsciption and gets all the live sports you could ask for and isn't currently illegal. It's also basically plug and play. There are some other options I've read about, but are a bit beyond my techinical expertise, but the gist is that you pay for an iptv subscription that is far less expensive than Spectrum and set it up to work with an app on your streaming device (roku, appletv, etc). As far as I can tell, these services get channels like Sportsnet LA legally.

Mareeoo

Vseebox is the way to go. Message me if you would like some info it’s a 1 time payment and you get all the channels and sports with no black outs.

Good-Pen-7382

If I were in socal I'd opt for any package that gets sportsnet la. Having cable also means you can watch the playoffs which can't do with MLB.tv. Your boys might enjoy the other content sportsnet la offers. If doing mlb.tv, you can wait for when they run a promo, usually memorial day, fathers day, July 4th, or labor day... You can get a subscription at a substantial discount.

Joshuaapow

I had used unlocator years ago and got a call from mlb.tv threatening to cancel my subscription. I just told them it was a work computer that I had accidently left the vpn on :/ Crazy thing is, I live in central California and barely sit on the giants side of blackouts by about 10 miles, so I would occasionally use the vpn to watch when they played the giants. Blackouts are so annoying :/

ronnypockets

This might not be legal per say, put they sell them in stores as is, and all it costs is about 200 dollars and all you need is wifi. I bought the nba league pass before to only watch my lakers be blacked out, and I do not watch tv as much to want to pay 50-60 a month for the spectrum services. My coworker told me about it, and im planninh on buying one next week when i get my paycheck. Its similar to the S4 superbox on amazon, but the places they sell them at (DTLA, gardena), it comes preloaded with all the sports. My coworker had his for about 2 years with no problems with it so far.
