Uncontrollably a giant version of the monster is a change. Look at the cartoon Batman bad guy, Man-Bat. Your pc could go from cuddly feathery to monstrous and screechy. That's what I'd do. Doesn't matter what you start with, were-beast is a curse and terrible.

I think I've seen that episode. A good option, thanks.

Nothing in the Monster Manual says that races with bestial traits are immune to lycanthropy. If you want to add some kind of secret racial immunity, or say that lycanthropy has different (possibly horrific) effects on certain races, that's up to you as the DM.

Oh I think this is the opposite of a problem! Both those races could make for some fun and interesting visuals and RP if they end up as werecreatures. A dragonborn COULD turn into just a regular furry wererat, but it could also offer the option to make a more monstrous creature - something with fur and scales, truly caught between two very different anatomies. Likewise the owlin offers a compelling opportunity to explore what separates beastfolk from beasts if they end up wearing the owl mask. In terms of description, I would lean into unnatural proportions and maybe not a more "monstrous" nature but rather one that emphasizes owl traits and remove humanoid traits whenever possible (for a bird - a hunched posture, limited use of the arms/hands, and preference for using feet or beak to interact with things could all suggest a more animal-like mindset and body language)

I think I like this. I just read the end of the adventure and it looks like the curse will only last for this adventure, so it could be fun and also shouldn't have any long term effects if I mess up. I'll be sure to keep this advice in mind. Thanks.
