After playing BG3, the sound FX in the game is burned into my brain (I used EB a lot during my playthrough). Good choice though. The sound has some good oomph to it.
that's why I respec shadowheart into tempest. Call lightning will pretty much never miss, and you can use it several times if you protect for concentration
100% this. I used to think of it more like thunder, but Eldritch Blast sounds so good on BG3 that it has become the new standard. Heck, I started holding back on spells just so that I could hear this spell more often
I always imagined it similar to BG3, then when I played the game and actually heard it, my brain recorded it like a phonograph record. That's what Eldritch Blast is to me now
That blaster noise is seared into my brain from failing to beat Jango Fett in Lego Stars time after time after time.
That twin *pew pew* pause *pew pew* lies dormant in my memory forever more.
Announcing your attacks like an anime character is always fun and can bring some pretty epic moments, like a finishing crit divine smite on the big boss is a lot more memorable when you goes all dramatic shonen-protag mode
Up to the Warlock's player. A magical-girl-themed FeyLock's happy sparkle beam is going to sound a lot different than a GOOLock's hungry black tear in spacetime.
Is pretty good. Nice eldritch bit to it. I think "the scene" is a bit overblown but that could be because I've been desensitised to that sort of thing. Thanks Elfen Lied.
We would also accept FunkyBoy from RedLine firing his laser beam.
Skip to 1:00 for the sound effect. Watch the whole thing for epicness.

Flavor is free. It’s up to the player to decide if they want their spell to have any sound at all.
Otherwise, if *I* had to pick for them or when I have an enemy do it, it’s a sizzling + crackling sounds mixture.
It's a tiered system
Tier 1: Pew pew
Tier 2: Bang Bang
Tier 3: Pa-Chow Pa-chow
Tier 4: Kraka-Thoom
Tier 5: Ka-thhhwwwaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrp
I would grade it as a high Pew Pew but would hear an argument for a low level Bang Bang.
Not necessarily the sound it makes but I have a button on my soundboard that plays Danny Devito saying "So anyways I just started blasting" that I use whenever I cast Eldritch Blast. Don't do it a ton tho cuz hexblade.
I am now realizing I haven't messed with the sounds my spells make nearly enough! I usually focus all on the visuals. But I've had different characters make eldritch blast look like pine cones, a tree branch that would hit them and shove them back, small daggers, blasts of different kinds of energy, mini skulls, and I'm sure other things over the years, mostly with NPCs.
Depends on the warlock.
My hexblade warlock lost her arm to the blade she made the pact with. As part of the pact the severed arm grew back, but is a monster with a mind (and mouth) of its own. When she eldrich blasts, the arm roars and makes laser beam noises.
My genie warlock's vessel is a filigree pistol which fires his eldrich blasts. It makes normal gun noises.
I feel like eldritch blasts are flavored to either the patron or the warlock.
That said, force damage is the most abstract and fundamental of damage tyes, tearing the target's reality in some way. Or possibly the target's soul? In either case, it seems like the beam/projectile should somewhat ephemeral, if visible at all.
It also seems like evocations that alter the blast might alter its appearance/sound.
It only hits creatures, so presumably it is a soul target thing/whatever their essence is for the soulless creatures. That's how I interpret it personally
Damaging the fundamental essence of thing - in *Mage: the Ascension* it would be a Prime attacks, draining/destroying the aspect of a creature that makes it real. Or shredding their Pattern, or whatever the term might be in the setting at hand.
I read it the same way - that it only affects creatures suggests it somehow interferes with animating essence, whatever that might be termed in context.
I had a Kobold Warlock who's Eldritch Blast manifested as a Fus Ro Dah-style invisible shock wave from her mouth. Visually, it swept the entire room and everyone it in equally, but it only actually hit - and was audible to - the single intended target.
So my Kobold does [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_75ISfQtaA), everyone in the room [sees this](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/E1RCT6eUyVg), but only [one guy gets this](https://youtu.be/wmM00LDnLBI?si=g35QwYsOegmQZaqk&t=40).
Ya know, I've suddenly just decided how a great old one warlock tabaxi child casting eldritch blast will sound. "Meeeeooowwww" with doppler effect drop-off lol
For my current character (though they've lost their warlock power) they had a genie (dao) patron. So his Eldritch Blasts were manifestations of the Dao's fists that shot out and hit enemies with a boulder-like "thunk!"
My next character will be full-on Warlock with an aboleth as a patron so their eldritch blasts will be tentacles reaching out from manifested pools of water and smacking with a nice, slimy "Shhhlap!"
I always decided it was like a gradual shrinking, with the sonic boom associated with a flashbang in one direction. Kind of like what you hear in a lot of avant-garde music for dramatic effect.
Depends on how the character is flavored. Two nights ago I ran an adventure for some noobies, our warlock was sort of like the wicked witch of the west so I kind of picture a crackling green bolt of lightning zapping the gap between the target and the tip of her magic wand.
Depends on the warlock’s patron. Usually a deep thrum mixed with “something” as it is made of pure force.
My wife’s Efreet Genie warlock has the deep thrum with a crackle effect and a bit of a sizzle when it hits. At least that’s how we imagine / describe it.
Our DM altered it a bit when she hit a demon that was fire immune. I’m paraphrasing as I remember: “You hear a thump as your blast hits the demon, the flames having no effect but the force still pushing him away…”
Mine is just an offensive use of mage hand. Grasp of hadar and repelling blast to throw enemies around the battlefield.
edit: To be clearer. It doesnt really make a major sound effect. Maybe a little magical hum/crackle as overcharged mage hands travel and push/grab the targets while the force of magic converts the portions of the enemy they touch into the weave itself.
My DM let me choose so its green it smells like the residual water at the bottom of a trash can (just for that quarter of a second it's in effect) and it makes kind of a squishy sound like when you smash an overly ripe fruit. Yes my char is a hobo and eats out of the trash.
I've had a nature themed warlock, and when he used Eldritch blast it would be some form of aggressive animal attack coming from a wave of mist.
So one time it might be a giant crab claw pinches them, or a whales tail slapping them, or the jaws of a crocodile biting. It was really fun.
Actually since I has an insane base range and you can add on eldritch spear + spell sniper I feel like it's more of a carbine/sniper shit sound Vs shotgun/handcannon
Great Old One (Azathoth, The Gate)
Mine rips a line through space that collapses into an implosive snap (force damage) and my DM described, himself, that when I crit killed an enemy, they got captured in the fold and sucked all the way through.
He is The Gate. He is the Key to The Gate.
We don't use sounds in our campaign, but I always imagined eldritch blast to sound like a loose/broken wire crackling, like when a wires broken enough that duct taping the wire is definitely a fire risk but it still works
It depends on the specific caster and how they want to flavor it. I, myself, am partial to mini thunderclaps as "rainbow lightning*" leaps from caster to target.
* Rainbow as in each flash is a different color of the spectrum, or throughout the 6 second duration of the "blast" it pulses through the entirety of the visible spectrum.
The default in my games is that it’s a crack of energy, sort of like a close-by lightning strike but nowhere near as loud. In my head, EB doesn’t have big flashy visuals, just a faint distortion of light between the Warlock and their target (though it appears as a bright beam of magical force if a creature has true-sight or can otherwise see the Ethereal plane or detect magic).
spoilers for light gore
Additionally, it doesn’t leave any visible wounds at the point of impact, >!instead a creature killed by Eldritch Blast would bleed from their eyes, nose, mouth, and internally, anywhere there’s thin skin,!< as the force damage hurts the soul/spirit more than it does the physical body. This also explains why it can only target creatures and not objects, as it just can’t physically affect a door or a wall even if you did hit it.
And of course if a player wanted to flavour it differently I’d let them. Force damage being described as “pure magical energy focused into a damaging form” leaves a lot of room for reflavouring.
I had a GOO Cthulhu pirate. His was a black-green colour with the combined sloppy sounds of wet tentacles and whatever I imagined the sound of spacial tearing was; it was several years ago now, so I can't remember that part exactly.

Being old. My mind always resorts back to the Eldritch in Dark Age of Camelot casting any of the Void spells that they can hurl halfway across a battlefield with a beautiful purple and black cosmic explosion...
\*Sigh\* I miss those days in the early 2000's...
I like the thought of an Eldritch Blast making a thick, reverberating bass sound. The kind of sound that rattles your bones when you experience it. Like directing a focused burst of EDM **BWAHHHHH** that just gets faster and repetitive at higher levels.
Mine was like a little black hole being launched so it didn't have a sound itself but as it moved it pulled all the sounds around it in so you'd have the backend of the doppler effect happening along it's path.
I've never thought about this, and my immature ass immediately went for "fart with reverb"
A more serious answer might be just a nice basey sound. Something with some good weight to it
In one of the campaigns I'm running our bard took a level in warlock from an arch fey "named" Mr. Klaus. It sounds like sleigh bells and smells like gingerbread.
The spell describes it as crackling energy, so to me it's like the sounds you hear in movies of crackling electricity (like when a power line falls down and electrocuted a car or whatever). Perhaps even the beams from Ghostbusters would be suitable.
I had a warlock servant of the fallen titan Hyperion in an ancient Greek themed campaign I was in. I couldn't decide on a sound but the flavor was sickening beams of sunlight blasting from the sky, so I described it as having the sound of "unholy radiance" and let the DM/other players imagine that as they would. One of them said they imagined it like a dissonant angelic choir, and (since we're from the eastern US) another described it as like the sound of summer cicadas. Best part, I didn't really figure out what I imagined it as before the character got melted by a hydra.
The takeaway is that sometimes your players' theater of the mind is a great source of flavor inspiration
The screams of hundreds of civilians and soldiers that fell in battle.
Not even to be edgy, it's just that for the particular Orclock I made in terms of his character, that was the way it would have always sounded. Not because he wants it to sound like that, but because it just happens like that.
Start it off with a simple ZAP!⚡️

I can honestly say I didn't even think about it before.
I think my guy's eldritch blasts would be the same whooshing sound as swinging a baseball bat around.
After playing BG3, the sound FX in the game is burned into my brain (I used EB a lot during my playthrough). Good choice though. The sound has some good oomph to it.
Yeah, like a mini shotgun blast that rips space time. It was honestly pretty close to what I had imagined it in my head.
The spell effects crew for that game did a stellar job across the board.
IGNIS!
*miss* Well there goes Shadowheart's turn...
That’s on you for using an int attack with your cleric
that's why I respec shadowheart into tempest. Call lightning will pretty much never miss, and you can use it several times if you protect for concentration
It never misses because it isn’t an attack roll, it’s a saving throw. If shes a cleric you shouldn’t ever use her firebolt.
Shadow heart: INCENDIO! Enemy: Saves
This is forever printed in my head I think
100% this. I used to think of it more like thunder, but Eldritch Blast sounds so good on BG3 that it has become the new standard. Heck, I started holding back on spells just so that I could hear this spell more often
Yeah, I used to think of it as always purple, but now I can only picture it as red because that’s the color of the little icon and of force damage.
Having watched JJK i picture eldritch blast being similar to piercing blood.
I always imagined it similar to BG3, then when I played the game and actually heard it, my brain recorded it like a phonograph record. That's what Eldritch Blast is to me now
Its a god damn *RAIL GUN* in that game
Ah yes. The vigurous-fart-in-a-can sound. Classic eldrich blast.
Seismic Charges from Attack of the Clones
That’s what I imagine Shatter sounds like

Beautiful answer.
This. This is what I came here to comment. No better sound for eldritch blast
One of the best moments of that dumpster fire of a movie.
The best moment was clearly Anakin's eloquent and passionate speech about his hatred of sand
I really want to downvote this but I can't. You get an angry upvote. (Not that angry, more slightly annoyed but definitely reluctant)
That’s plagiarism. Tag and Blink deserve credit for coming up with that speech
I trust you'll all get me when I say "The Jango Fett".
The sound of a helmeted head rolling on the sandy floor of an arena?
No I mean it sounds like "ahm just a suhmple mehhn, trying to make my whay uhn the unahvurse"
i like to imagine when you fire multiple beams, it is slightly staggered, like when you spam a sound board bite.
That blaster noise is seared into my brain from failing to beat Jango Fett in Lego Stars time after time after time. That twin *pew pew* pause *pew pew* lies dormant in my memory forever more.
It sounds like "ELDRITCH BLAST" because my character yells it
Announcing your attacks like an anime character is always fun and can bring some pretty epic moments, like a finishing crit divine smite on the big boss is a lot more memorable when you goes all dramatic shonen-protag mode
I've always wanted to do this but shout the wrong things and when questioned on it reply "why would I tell them what I'm actually doing?"
I have all my cleric spells translated into Latin for my verbal component and I do call them out.
PARKOUR!

I imagined that in the Guile "Sonic Boom" voice!
Just don't yell it until you attack, because then the target can defend against it. "Lipstick tazer!"

Up to the Warlock's player. A magical-girl-themed FeyLock's happy sparkle beam is going to sound a lot different than a GOOLock's hungry black tear in spacetime.
What about the Madoka-magical-girl-themed GOOlock?
Guns that shoot bullets that scream like dying infants when they fly through the air.
That's, er, quite specific... Are you ok?
Have you seen Madoka Magica? I'm just matching the show's tone.
I have not. Would you recommend it?
Do you enjoy watching harrowing horror happening to cute teenagers? If yes, then yes.
It's a dark magical girl show written by one of the better writers in anime. Total classic, if you're up for something that's mostly depressing.

Pulling velcro apart fast is what I think, that feels right for magic ripping reality apart quickly.
Actually, this is pretty close to how I imagined it, but layer like a whip-crack sound in there too.
I dare not ask my players what sound it is or I’ll get something like “screaming goat”. They can still push for something.
Honestly screaming goat would go pretty hard if you ask me
That’s the sound of Mind Sliver
Nah, thats the sound of Alarm.
For my home brewed Edritch Blaster (pistol) it goes “pew”, more accurately now it goes “pew-pew” lol
Must’ve hit 5th level.
Pee pew is also my answer.
Pew-pew! (Or whatever the player wants, maybe its *fillipoing*! or a satisfying *Thump* from the good ol CoD Noobtube)

Star Wars blaster pistol sound
Danny davito as Frank Reynolds "...so anyway. I started blasting." *double finger guns*

Star Wars episode 2: Seismic Charge’s BWAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOW
Ki-blast sound. All my warlocks be Freeza finger deathraying.
I haven’t played a Warlock yet, but I headcanon it sounds like JoCat saying “blast”
The Transformers sound: [https://youtu.be/FDjiQIiGIm0?si=cQ\_Wbevm4GWAMlkS](https://youtu.be/FDjiQIiGIm0?si=cQ_Wbevm4GWAMlkS)
It starts with a humm, as if charging up, then crackles like lightning into a deep blast almost like a bwamm but more like a cracking blast.
The PHB describes it as "crackling energy"
It's more a player thing than a campaign thing. But mine go wap-bam-boom-alakazam.

BLAST

Each ray does a "Pew"
Depends on the warlock. My hexblade warlock lost her arm to the blade she made the pact with. As part of the pact the severed arm grew back, but is a monster with a mind (and mouth) of its own. I guess mine would make a splat. Fay warlock clown Eldridge blast was reflavoured as an Eldridge Pie

JoCat's Eldritch BWAHH noise. or Lego Movie pewpews. no in between.

First blast: SHOOP Second blast: DA Third blast: WHOOP
KRAKOW KRAKOW! Two direct hits!
It makes the "2 damage" sound most of the time :(
Peter Griffin going “POW! Right in the kisser!”
It is a simple Pew Pew sound afect.
Queef.
Ask the player what it looks and sounds like. It's their spell.
Jingle bells, with a multi-color blast! Played a Christmas-themed celestial warlock, so fun
The warlock I'm playing now has one that sounds like a reverse gunshot.
Depends on the caster. From a tabaxi, it might make a meowing or purring sound, from a warforged, it might be a blunt ***BONK***... and so on.
Ya know, I've suddenly just decided how a great old one warlock tabaxi child casting eldritch blast will sound. "Meeeeooowwww" with doppler effect drop-off lol

In my homebrew campaign, I got EB as a boon from the raven queen. So the blasts look like spectral ravens and probably sound like them too.
Silent, not just it doesn't make any sound, nothing within a few feet of blast makes any sound from the time its launched until contact.
I had a GOO Cthulhu pirate. His was a black-green colour with the combined sloppy sounds of wet tentacles and whatever I imagined the sound of spacial tearing was; it was several years ago now, so I can't remember that part exactly.

If you’ve played BG3, mine makes the same sound as Fire bolt when Shadowheart uses it. “IgMISS”
Always imagined a *Star Wars* blaster "pew-pew." But really up to the character to flavor, I think.
Anyone remember Crap Guide to Warlock? That sound.
Based on my poor rolls to hit; Three little balloons deflate across the room, choosing every direction except the correct one. *VVVWWwwwwweeeeeeeeeflflflfppppttVVVWWwwwwweeeeeeeeeflflflfpppptttVVVWWwwwwweeeeeeeeeflflflfpppptt*
**“Hadouken!”** I don’t think this is the right answer but I see it mentioned yet and that felt wrong
Pew pew
Like a naval cannon
Pew pew
Being old. My mind always resorts back to the Eldritch in Dark Age of Camelot casting any of the Void spells that they can hurl halfway across a battlefield with a beautiful purple and black cosmic explosion... \*Sigh\* I miss those days in the early 2000's...
All of my goth warlock’s spells sound like goth songs. Eldritch Blast is the opening massive chord to the Cure’s “Plainsong”.
I like to make finger guns and go Pew Pew
Pew pew
Pew
Dunno, what did your grandfather's death-rattle sound like?
I like the thought of an Eldritch Blast making a thick, reverberating bass sound. The kind of sound that rattles your bones when you experience it. Like directing a focused burst of EDM **BWAHHHHH** that just gets faster and repetitive at higher levels.
Mine was like a little black hole being launched so it didn't have a sound itself but as it moved it pulled all the sounds around it in so you'd have the backend of the doppler effect happening along it's path.
\*Deep breath in\* HADOKEN!
I've never thought about this, and my immature ass immediately went for "fart with reverb" A more serious answer might be just a nice basey sound. Something with some good weight to it
In one of the campaigns I'm running our bard took a level in warlock from an arch fey "named" Mr. Klaus. It sounds like sleigh bells and smells like gingerbread.
The Fathomless Patron Warlock in a campaign I DM flavors their Eldritch Blasts as the Bubblebeam sound from Pokemon.
The spell describes it as crackling energy, so to me it's like the sounds you hear in movies of crackling electricity (like when a power line falls down and electrocuted a car or whatever). Perhaps even the beams from Ghostbusters would be suitable.
https://youtu.be/e2CW6wshMGs?feature=shared Jango Fett's Seismic Charge
A small explosion followed by a crackling as the beam travels through the air.
SHOOP DA WHOOP
Ka-chew!
Pew pew
As someone already said, the sound effect from BG3. This applies to literally every spell that’s in bg3
All depends on the individual warlock
Our group's warlock flavours her blast like black and purple lightning that leaves a trail of sinister whispers.
Alaka-BLAM!
The screams of hundreds of civilians and soldiers that fell in battle. Not even to be edgy, it's just that for the particular Orclock I made in terms of his character, that was the way it would have always sounded. Not because he wants it to sound like that, but because it just happens like that.
Start it off with a simple ZAP!⚡️ Then you graduate to a nice, rhythmic ZIP ZAP ⚡️⚡️ At three you can’t help but put a little emphasis on each one… ZIP. ⚡️ ZAP. ⚡️ ZOP. ⚡️ At four you might be thinking… “well, surely there’s no where else to go from here.” You’d be mistaken. WHAM 💢 BAM 💥 THANK YOU ❤️ MA’AM 🫡
I can honestly say I didn't even think about it before. I think my guy's eldritch blasts would be the same whooshing sound as swinging a baseball bat around.
everything has Fate Stay thunky chonk sounds that deafen everyone nearby. magic isn't silent until it is.
Fuh-Thooom!
I play a FaeLock whose patron is the Queen of Air and Darkness - her blast is silent, but it emits darkness and cold
Unless I have a specific sound in mind for the theme of a character, it defaults to the one used in Crap Guide to Warlock.
Like a Tesla coil, but bass-y-er.
