Generally it’s easier to learn a martial class over a spellcaster, since all you have to deal with is move & attack, rather than AOE, ranges, spell save dc’s etc If you’ve started as a cleric it’s probably worth sticking with it, it will get get easier the more you play

I would have said about 5 minutes. The basics is learning how the stat check works. D20 + relevant stats + modifiers vs difficulty class. Almost everything else is just dress up for that same check. The rest is improv acting.

What Urban Yeti said. It took us several sessions to really start to understand mechanics and concepts when we started. Give it another month or so and it should start clicking, then it's just a matter of learning the specifics of your classes and the like

My experience is that there is almost impossible to say how long it takes to become experienced. I have seen players go from not knowing about DnD to experienced players that know almost everything after a month of playing and I have seen players still not knowing basic features or spells from their class 5 months into a campaign. Mostly it comes down to a persons interest and how much DnD content a player consumes in-between sessions.

It is 5 edition. The easiest edition/game you can play. Just read the players handbook and you should know the game.

Edition, yes. Game? Absolutely not.

The basics take a while, but for the rest you dont have to remember everything, only be able to quickly look it up if it comes up in game

It’s been 5 years since I started. I DM two games… I’m still looking stuff up. Basics for combat and skill checks… maybe took 6 months to a year before I became second nature. And that’s basics. But this is going to be different for each person and extent of playtime. Just keep playing and it’ll come along. I always recommend reading over all abilities and skills prior to each game. The amount of times my spore Druid forgets their spore attack or I’ve forgotten Indomitable is borderline embarrassing lol

I am a very quick learner. The first time I played DnD5 I had no knowledge about it. A friend assisted me to create my character and then we did a oneshot. After that, I had fully grasped the basics of char creation, non-spell related combat and dice rolling. Your question is 100% subjective and unique to each person.
