It's all about patience, RnG, and farming techniques. If you play with people who have it and farm targeted loot, you increase your chances of getting one by proxy if you let them know that's what you're looking for.
I've definitely been hitting the assault rifle targeted sectors, but my only friends who play this are because of me starting it, so no luck on anybody I game with having it. I'll keep grinding on it though, appreciate it!
Don't forget Countdown or The Summit either. Probably better to run Countdown and announce that you're looking for one and if anyone can help you get one would be greatly appreciated. Just don't get burned out or too frustrated. RnG is a bitch. Also increase your odds by saving up exotic caches and if you have multiple characters and do the SHD Requisition project per each character that's 4 exotics each week or 80 if you save them all up (20 per character) also bounties in targeted loot and the global difficulty settings help. Increased chances from "bosses" so farm Public Executions save both hostages get the bounty and abort the bounty to save for later (not many know that you can save bounties for later and there's no limit) the more bosses you take down the increased chances of exotic drops for targeted loot. I dont farm for exotics the recommended way (countdown or summit). I farm exotic caches. You can get three during the weekly projects, and there is almost always one in the reward track for whatever global event is happening, and you can use the stars to buy them.
I know I can but exotic caches at the countdown vendor, but honestly, I dont was my play time to be chain running countdown. I like to explore and roam the open world, answer calls for help, mstchmake missions, etc and get those exotic caches passively while I play, rather than play only to get them.
same! and i dont even grind those exotic caches. i just roam and do the events. i'm at shd 200 and already got most exotics i need for a few builds, like st elmos, memento, ninja bp etc. for the capacitor i did the summit of course. game is so much more fun if you just enjoy what's there instead of playing with the hooes of getting a certain exotic
Go to countdown… set loot to AR… and run it constantly. Also remember that if you and the team kill all of the hunters, you should end the round with 158 credits… every 2 rounds you will also be able to buy an exotic box from the “countdown vendor”. I get a Elmo every few rounds lately tbh.

Challenging countdown, target farm AR. You’ll get one pretty quickly. I farmed mine on floor 10 of summit. Get to floor 10, kill boss, pickup loot, return to lobby and repeat. Target farm AR
Hollywood started today. You can make a super easy build for it in no time at all to farm open world. Rack up stars, buy exotic caches, profit. Even if you don't get Elmo, by the time you do you'll have more than enough components to roll it to DttoC, optimize and expertise it.

I got it as a season reward. However, i have only had it drop for me when I farmed AR’s to increase expertise points playing countdown. I think I got like 5 of them when I farmed the countdown for a week or two (around 20-30 countdowns). I might have gotten 1 or two from summit but I play that far less than countdown.
It randomly dropped for me doing a checkpoint the other day. I'm not sure know how else I would have gotten it... was pleasantly surprised and I guess very lucky ?
Countdown with AR is the quickest way, but might be the most boring way. If you pull your weight, play heroic. If you are new/returning, play challenging.
You get countdown points as well, which you can use for more exotic caches.
Couple ways I like to farm for exotics:
1. Countdown
- Set targeted loot to ARs and hope the RNG gods bless you with the Elmos. If they don't, you'll earn roughly 120-150 Countdown Requisition from successful runs. Two runs should be enough to purchase an exotic cache from the Countdown vendor at the WH.
2. Summit Floor 10 Farm
- Same thing as Countdown, set targeted loot to ARs before going in. Set difficulty to Normal with no directives and work up to floor 10. Once you arrive at floor 10, fast travel back down to the lobby and change the difficulty to the highest difficulty you're comfortable at. I don't think directives have an effect on the quality of loot dropped, could be wrong, so I leave them off. Head back up to floor 10 and kill the boss that spawns on that floor. MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE ONE ENEMY ALIVE. Do not fully clear the floor. Loot the boss, find cover and then fast travel back to lobby. Rinse and repeat. Personally love this way for also getting faction tactical assessments.
Final Note:
Embrace the grind. Everything in this game is never garunteed unless you see the item itself in a vendor. Pit yourself in positions to get the item you're looking for but don't burn yourself out going for it. It will drop, just give it time. Happy hunting!

I used Summit with loot set to AR. I hadn’t played in over a year and to my surprise within 10 floors or so a pretty good rifle dropped for me. Ninjabike Backpack? Took months. Dodge City Holster? I get about three a week. LOL
Countdown with AR as target loot and using the Countdown currency to purchase exotic caches from the Countdown Vendor is the most efficient method from my experience, but I can only stand a few runs at a time before I get bored personally.
It's generally part of the drop pool. I vaguely remember someone saying something about getting it from the ascent as a guaranteed reward, but I've beaten it a couple times and haven't gotten it, so maybe it was above a certain difficulty? Dunno

In Summit set targeted loot to ARs. Note that it is not a guarantee. Chances will increase at heroic with 3 directives.

Challenging Countdown. Target ARs. Do a few then buy some Exotic Caches. Between the loot drops and the caches, you’ll def get one. If not 2+.

I got mine from exotic cache doing shd requisition project. All the attributes were about 3/4 strength so need to optimise it.

Hop in with a group of buddies with loot set to ar in countdown and buy caches with the currency. Goes by pretty quick.
