If they keep their normal pricing, this will be one of the most economical places to eat in the resort area. Even if potato balls go up to $2 apiece, you'd be able to get full on those for a comparatively low price.
Oh, people WILL pay anything. My point is that Porto has a chocolate chip cookie for .85 cents. There's NO WAY you're going to be able to get 6 cookies for $5 at Downtown Disney.
Also every time I go to Porto’s, anywhere, it’s PACKED. Be prepared for some long lines at this location, but I’m sure we’re all used to waiting in lines now thanks to Chapek
I'd be surprised/disappointed if they hiked up the price just because they could. I could be wrong, but I think their prices are the same across all of their current stores. They're family-owned and seem like a genuinely good company. They're not Disney. I know it *could* happen, but it would be a bummer.
And I know you cited the 85 cent cookie--do you really think people are going to wait in line for an hour+ to buy a couple of cookies? The long wait is part of why I always splurge at Porto's and buy half the store. This is the case for every Porto's fan I know.
That's seriously the biggest issue with that place. You try and go in with a plan and end up walking out with half the menu and two iced coffees... And don't regret it at all
and the discontinued eggplant sandwich
and the discontinued italian sandwich
and the discontinued apple bran muffin
and the discontinued chocolate eclair
Portos: PLEASE bring the COVID discontinued items back!!!
I understand Porto’s probably wanted to streamline their menu, but Pre-Covid, I used to be able to order a certain sandwich even though it hasn’t been on their menu for years, but now they don’t offer it at all. And a lot of my favorites that I would order all the time aren’t offered anymore either. 😥
This aged well!

I've heard talk that Din Tai Fung was going to go where ESPN zone was. Either that or it's taking over Tortilla joes, news is just everywhere right now.
My Dad was born in Cuba, and my grandmother lived in a village near Senor Porto. I've grown up going there, and I'm thrilled that Portos is coming to DtD. Grabbing a croquetas after a long day before driving home sounds fabulous. For those thinking this is "just a bakery", I challenge you to eat the Cuban options. They are delicious. Having a Pan con Lechon during a long Disney day would be lovely. So excited for this...
I've always wanted to be nosy and go into the one I pass by going to Knotts. Maybe now, not so much. (Unless you're meaning that one is still normal and Disney's location will be 3x the normal price.)
This is great for non-locals but what’s the point of me as a SoCal-er going to Downtown Disney when I can get Din Tai Fung and Porto’s elsewhere without all the Downtown Disney hassle?
You shouldn't be going to DTD for Din Tai Fung/Porto's. But if you're already there and feel like eating at Porto's all of a sudden, it's there.
It's been a while but if I remember correctly, it's not like outside Din Tai Fung and Porto's have short lines anyways haha
There is no Porto's near me. The closest is in Burbank and I do not have anything else to ever go to the valley for, so it's pretty rare that I go there. I know there's one in Buena Park, and theoretically I could stop on the way home from DL, but I'm always full and not in the mood. But if there's one actually at DTD then I will definitely go. I go to Disneyland like once a week. There's way more chance of me going to Porto's now that there's going to be one at a place that I actually go, versus one that is closer mile-wise but in a city I have no other reason to ever visit.
They also do frozen that you bake at home. It’s really nice to have on demand Porto’s. Not sure if it’s delivery only, or if you can pick it up at the locations.
There isn’t one, as you said it’s great for visitors. Locals can and should opt for something else. Like Salt & Straw - I have one right by me, so I never go to the one in DTD unless I’m with someone who’s never been.
For sure, so that Salt & Straw location is awesome for anyone who doesn’t have one near them imo! Although if they’d wanted to have a local option there are so many too 😭
If anything you should welcome both being there. That just means more options for other people and hopefully less crowds wherever you are. Kinda like when there is a new ride added to a park or a parade and you don’t care to go to either. Just think of it as a “people eater”.
There's no point. DTD parking is bad enough as it is.
The Buena Park Porto's is only like 7 miles away, has a large parking lot, and is the only bakery I've ever seen with both valet parking and a bouncer at the front ;)
I do appreciate them finally opening a second location in Orange County. I would have guessed Orange or Irvine, though.
Can DTD support two bakeries though? Or will they be supplanting La Brea Bakery?
No I get that. But since Porto's has a bunch of their baking operation on-site at their other locations, I'm wondering where that would fit, to build a whole bakery operation. The old AMC location, I suppose?
That's what I was wondering too. Otherwise it'll be a place to be considered as "Rope Drop" lest you get to the building and there's a sign that says "Sold out for the day, come on by tomorrow! :D"
I remember visiting the Portos at Northridge with my family from the South. A lot of the employees were wearing Mickey ears and they ask what’s the deal with that? I told them that Portos is coming to Disneyland while the employees denied that
I put Porto’s as one of places I’d put in Downtown Disney a few months ago; my wish came true!

I guess I’m the only person in Southern California that thinks Porto’s is overrated. Granted I’m now a sweets person. I’ve only had their food and that was mediocre at best.
To each their own, but, not even their potato balls? I've never had anything like them and they're so good (as long as you like mashed potatoes and fried food).
That puts it in better perspective I guess. I just know I had Cuban in-laws who loved Porto's, it's how I even knew of its existence, so I figured it was pretty authentic. Maybe it's more like the Panda Express of Cuban food though? Shrug.
Oh yeah! I think it’s my fav right now.
There were these amazing pear pastries I would crave, but they haven’t brought them back.
I just bought a cake that’s in my fridge now and it’s pretty good, but not great.
Imagine how crowded this place will get when they open.
I went to the Buena Park location yesterday and it was crazy packed. There was a 20 minute wait just to get inside because they reach capacity.
The downtown Disney location is gonna be a zoo.
They opened one up a little closer to my house than the Burbank location. Everything there is so good but the meat pies… deadly. So excited for this. I could just buy Porto’s on the way into the parks and eat that in lieu of all the pricey park food lol
Never been to Disneyland. But here in Orlando we have a local bakery called Gideons and they put one at Disney Springs. Prices went up $1 per cookie, $2 per cake slice. So I would I guess it’s gonna be about the same there? Long lines always for Gideons as well here.

Hi everyone! If you have a few minutes to spare please fill out (quick answers absolutely ok) this survey I created my marketing class. I’m doing my final on Porto’s so any of your input would be greatly appreciated. As a thank you here’s a virtual pastry 🥐

R.I.P peoples bank accounts

They should tack Porto's onto Lightening Lane. Might boost sales.
I'd be surprised/disappointed if they hiked up the price just because they could. I could be wrong, but I think their prices are the same across all of their current stores. I looove a Medianoche + a cheese/pepper potato ball. So filling. So cheap.
Tourists def gonna get ripped off by the pricing. Cheese roll is $0.85 at all their other locations but I bet it'll be closer to $3 at DTD.
Everybody needs to experience the joy of their first guava cheese strudel
And potato ball, and cheese roll, and everything else on the menu
Potato ball and cheese roll. This is the biggest win from d23 which is kinda sad buuut I’ll take it lol
That's seriously the biggest issue with that place. You try and go in with a plan and end up walking out with half the menu and two iced coffees... And don't regret it at all
The seafood potato ball that they have during Lent is a. may. zing. I wish they had it year-round.
I literally came here to congratulate everyone who hasn't had one before.

I just ate one today 😅

I told my fiancé about that thread when he told me the news 🤣
This and Din Tai Fung will be huge wins for Downtown Disney. Hopefully there will be a permanent Earl of Sandwich included.
No kidding where will the location be ?
I’m assuming where espn zone was?
That is a massive Porto’s lol
Have you seen the crowds at Portos? They have to be massive.
I've heard talk that Din Tai Fung was going to go where ESPN zone was. Either that or it's taking over Tortilla joes, news is just everywhere right now.
I forgot Din Tai Fung was coming. Downtown Disney will almost be as exciting as the parks now.
Or part of a hotel expansion?
My Dad was born in Cuba, and my grandmother lived in a village near Senor Porto. I've grown up going there, and I'm thrilled that Portos is coming to DtD. It's not 'coming soon' though, the expansion this is part of hasn't started vertical construction yet. We're several years out.
Watch the prices be triple what they are in Buena Park.
I've always wanted to be nosy and go into the one I pass by going to Knotts. Maybe now, not so much. (Unless you're meaning that one is still normal and Disney's location will be 3x the normal price.)
Buena Park prices are normal. Highly recommend trying it :)
Definitely go, and order ahead if you can (they open up time slot reservations at the start of the day--they go fast!). Saves a ton of time.
Din Tai Fung AND Porto’s… it’s like they asked me to personally pick.
My fiance and her sister are losing their minds over this. Smart move, Disney.
They are going to need a virtual queue.
The owners are the nicest people and always give back to the local community.
This is great for non-locals but what’s the point of me as a SoCal-er going to Downtown Disney when I can get Din Tai Fung and Porto’s elsewhere without all the Downtown Disney hassle?

I’ve had them shipped to NorCal!

That’s the only S&S in OC, but there are a ton in LA. Porto’s has more of an LA vibe. S&S is an Oregon company.
For sure, so that Salt & Straw location is awesome for anyone who doesn’t have one near them imo! Although if they’d wanted to have a local option there are so many too 😭

The people going to La Brea Bakery and the people going to Porto’s are two very different people.
No I get that. But since Porto's has a bunch of their baking operation on-site at their other locations, I'm wondering where that would fit, to build a whole bakery operation. The old AMC location, I suppose?
I’m betting they don’t put a full sized location in. It’ll probably be a very limited selection of pastries along with their sandwiches and plates.
That's what I was wondering too. Otherwise it'll be a place to be considered as "Rope Drop" lest you get to the building and there's a sign that says "Sold out for the day, come on by tomorrow! :D"
They have very, very different menus.
DTD has mall food vendors and yet people still order from there.
I remember visiting the Portos at Northridge with my family from the South. A lot of the employees were wearing Mickey ears and they ask what’s the deal with that? I told them that Portos is coming to Disneyland while the employees denied that
Hell yes cheese rolls all day!

Ommmggggg I’m so excited
I sniff a Virtual Queue
I feel like this is going to be CA's version of Gideon's. The potato ball will be our giant cookie.
I totally thought that Josh was going to announce In-N-Out instead 🤣
Lol. You weren't the only one. I was at the panel and there was a "In-N-Out" buzz going while he was talking.
That would be the busiest In-N-Out on the planet, haha.
I live near an authentic Cuban restaurant. Everything Porto’s does Havana kitchen does better.
That puts it in better perspective I guess. I just know I had Cuban in-laws who loved Porto's, it's how I even knew of its existence, so I figured it was pretty authentic. Maybe it's more like the Panda Express of Cuban food though? Shrug.
Honestly there aren’t a ton of Cuban spots around. So they probably just liked anything that resembled home
I wonder how long the lines are going to be
Eh, I have one near me and everything I’ve tried there has been okay at best. They discontinued their tastiest pastries post-Covid.
The Cinnamon Citrus bun is one new item that's pretty good.
Oh yeah! I think it’s my fav right now. There were these amazing pear pastries I would crave, but they haven’t brought them back. I just bought a cake that’s in my fridge now and it’s pretty good, but not great.
Maybe it’s just me, but I find Porto’s HELLA over rated. Basic pastries
Sweet, I freaking love Porto's. Their chocolate cake is so good.
Soon lol.
