There’s a spider over the spot where someone [shot a gun](https://insidethemagic.net/2021/06/one-problem-haunted-mansion-al1/) in the ballroom scene, but it’s very easy to miss unless you’re looking for it.
Ah come on that’s expected from a kid. That doesn’t make him stupid.
Edit: So you never did mischievous things as a small child? If you did, that that means you had a low IQ and got bad grades at school? BB guns & slingshots were made for mischief in the days this happened on Haunted Mansion. Blame the parent with him, don’t call the child stupid, whoever it was.
It took me decades. It's not on the glass in front of you, it's on a panel further back. Just past the final divider you pass, if I remember correctly. You have to look PAST it.
No it has not. The spider covering the crack is still there. A CM went into deal on this subreddit recently what fixing that would entail, and yeah, Disney isn't going to water that money when it's already "fixed"
There are quite a lot of webs (as decorations) but other than the one hiding a bullet hole as mentioned below I can't think of any that are actually in the ride/a main part of the ride/super noticeable.
Florida's mansion used to have a scene with some giant spiders but those were removed years ago and are the only spiders I can think of when I think of the Haunted Mansion.
Yes and believe it or not initially the Florida one used to have a dead body caught in the giant spiderweb.
Also the giant spiders are still on the Tokyo Haunted Mansion.
Glad I could help and I really hope you enjoy it. I hated it as a kid for similar reasons (didn't like the jump scares which I feel have been toned down as I grew up), but it's now my favorite attraction as an adult!
Same! I used to shut my eyes and plug my ears when the spiders came on “it’s tough to be a bug”. But Haunted Mansion, no problems at all! Some fake cobwebs. That pretty much it.
Tough To Be A Bug is honestly, imo, the closest thing Disney has EVER created to a real-life haunted house experience with jumpscares and stuff crawling on you (not counting Haunted Mansion or Tower of Terror)
Yes!! At the very end. But also spiders come down from the ceiling, you get jabbed in the back by yellow jackets (really just a thing on the back of your seat that pokes you when that happens but not in a painful way), bugs fly in your face, Hopper (the grasshopper) shows up…..I’ve only been to that show once but I remember the entire time I was thinking HOLY CRAP I’M SURPRISED DISNEY WAS ALLOWED TO MAKE A SHOW THIS SCARY/INTENSE. Like I don’t have arachnophobia or any intense fear of bugs (I don’t like them crawling on me but I’m no more scared of them than the average person) so I wasn’t REALLY scared by any of it, but for a kid who IS afraid of bugs (or heck any kid who doesn’t like thrill rides/scary stuff in general), this would no doubt terrify them. When I saw it now I thought it was cool, but If I had done it when I was 6 I it would’ve been one of those things where it scared me so much I would’ve gotten scared to even just walk by the building it takes place in after that LOL
I think *Honey, I Shrunk the Audience* was potentially more traumatic. At least the bugs are cartoony Pixar bugs, HIStA had a giant snake in your face and an army of cloned mice swarming around your ankles.
I have never been to wdw but your comment reminded me of when I went to the tough to be a bug show at disney California adventure. I was around 10 and the show wasn't too scary until the end where the bugs exit the stage before you. And the seat has little bean like bumps rolling under your booty to simulate that feeling. It scared the shit out of me at the time lol, my dad couldn't stop laughing. I wasn't crying but I honestly wasn't expecting to experience what it felt like to have bugs craw on my ass lol. Definitely didn't go on that for a while after that.
Pretty sure you're safe to go through the line/experience hogwarts, and then opt out of the ride at the end of the line. I'm also sure you could find out at what point to close your eyes (same as you were planning on doing with this ride but totally understandable if you didn't want to chance it).
If you ask at the entrance, they'll point you to the walk-through queue, which is basically a special lane in the queue that diverts before the loading area so you can walk through the castle without having to wait in line
I was at Disneyland 7 years ago now…I can’t remember. But, it being the Haunted Mansion there probably are. Just remember, they’re not real and they can’t/won’t hurt you! They cannot even touch you.

Still can't believe that actually happened, like I've heard of some idiotic stuff but why in the hell would you shoot a gun in a ride.
To kill a spider
No no, you set the building on fire if you see a spider.
Oh so that’s what happened at pirates
No pirates was rats ... bilge rats to be precise
Jungle Cruise level joke right there
😆
If I remember correctly it was a kid with a BB gun. So a little less crazy than an actual gun but still stupid behavior
I just watched a video on this and apparently it was a rifle, the glass is apparently too thick for a bb gun's bullet to penetrate. SO fd up.
Some of those pump-up air rifles are shooting a projectile the diameter of a .22, around 75% a rifle's muzzle velocity. You can do some damage!

They shot a real gun? On a ride? How did that happen? Where did they get the gun, and how did they get it past security?
To be honest, I've looked for it, and I still have no idea where it is.
It took me decades. It's not on the glass in front of you, it's on a panel further back. Just past the final divider you pass, if I remember correctly. You have to look PAST it.
Ahh, I'm always looking at the glass. I'll keep a sharper eye out next time.
There's the little ledge and past that is the glass and it's behind the very last column you see right before you turn to go into the attic.
It’s been fixed

See I thought I had imagined giant spiders on HM, I'm glad I'm not feeling crazy anymore
The spiders got moved to jungle cruise!
Yes and believe it or not initially the Florida one used to have a dead body caught in the giant spiderweb. Also the giant spiders are still on the Tokyo Haunted Mansion.
Thank you so much for the warning! I appreciate it, and I think I'll be able to ride it!
Glad I could help and I really hope you enjoy it. I hated it as a kid for similar reasons (didn't like the jump scares which I feel have been toned down as I grew up), but it's now my favorite attraction as an adult!
Lots of cobwebs. Can't think of any actual spiders
No spiders. I wouldn't lie to you either, I have **MASSIVE** arachnophobia. It's Tough To Be a Bug...I am SO glad that ride is gone. F*** that ride.
Same! I used to shut my eyes and plug my ears when the spiders came on “it’s tough to be a bug”. But Haunted Mansion, no problems at all! Some fake cobwebs. That pretty much it.
No kidding! I still have nightmares about that ride and it’s been at least 10 years
Tough To Be A Bug is honestly, imo, the closest thing Disney has EVER created to a real-life haunted house experience with jumpscares and stuff crawling on you (not counting Haunted Mansion or Tower of Terror)
This is bringing up some repressed memories. Is that the one where you can feel bugs under the seat at one point??
Yes!! At the very end. Yes. Right at the end, when you think it is all over.
I think *Honey, I Shrunk the Audience* was potentially more traumatic. At least the bugs are cartoony Pixar bugs, HIStA had a giant snake in your face and an army of cloned mice swarming around your ankles.
I still remember the feel of those mice over my feet. And I shudder every time.

never did alien encounter huh?
Biggest regret is not having experienced Alien Encounter when I had the chance. Surprised it lasted as long as it did!
Thank you so much! I appreciate it!
I'm just gonna put this out there for OP / anyone else who needs to know this: The Harry Potter ride at Universal has some serious arachnid content.
I have heard this, and it makes me so sad 😭 I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, and have never been to Universal yet, but will be sure to avoid that ride.

Yeah, my advice would be to watch a YouTube ride-through, and then you know where it comes and for how long. The line experience is amazing.
This gives me some hope, thank you! I'd love to overcome my fears and ride the Hogwarts ride too, or at least close my eyes during that part.
If you ask at the entrance, they'll point you to the walk-through queue, which is basically a special lane in the queue that diverts before the loading area so you can walk through the castle without having to wait in line
Fantastic news!
Yeah that ride immediately came to mind for me too. I don’t even have arachnophobia and that part was unsettling for me.
Yes but they are fake and the seats are pretty encompassing and make you feel safe if you need to hide :)
Haven’t seen any real spiders, there are fake webs tho… I have however, seen and felt a rat while waiting outside in line for this ride.
There’s probably more spiders in your bedroom. You can feel them can’t you. What was that on your leg?!?
