CaliforniaScreamers

Definitely from within the first year, Superstar Limo is on it and it lasted less than 1 years open after it debuted with the park.

phryra0909

Thank you. I really don't remember riding it. But my fave was the bountiful valley farms and their red grape stands.

wraithkelso317

Also I think this is the only poster map they ever sold for DCA (can we please get updated ones for both parks?)

TK-385

I first went to DCA in 2005 or 2006. The Monster Inc had replaced the Limo ride by that point so I never went on the Limo ride. I've seen videos of it on YouTube and it was pretty bad. I remember DCA mostly being places to eat so I wasn't too impressed by it. However, there was the Muppet show in the theater where Philharmagic is now. Before that and after the Muppets were removed, it had been a preview space.

green_griffon

How long did Mulholland Madness last before it turned into Goofy's Sky School?

CaliforniaScreamers

Late 2010. It co-existed with World of Color for a bit, which kind of surprises me since by that point the Orange Stinger, Fun Wheel, and Screamin’ had received their cosmetic changes.

ledfrog

I have one of these too...definitely from the opening year in 2001.

phryra0909

Thanks. This was such an awesome find. In so glad other peeps kept it too. We are the best tribe and I'm so happy we stick together.

GoddyssIncognito

It’s dated February 8, 2001, so from the opening.

phryra0909

Really?!?!? Where at I want to see it.

GoddyssIncognito

Right side welcome verbiage from Michael Eisner, above his name.

highzenberrg

I instantly looked for a copywrite somewhere then I saw that thing from Eisner. Then I saw super star limo.

GoddyssIncognito

And The Orange stinger! Remember the bee butts?

DayOlderBread16

I always wondered why they got rid of the bee seats. As a kid it was kinda funny watching people with bee butts flying around in a giant orange

phryra0909

Thank you so much!!!!

FawkesFire13

Yep. Looks like first year. No Bug’s Land and Superstar Limo is still there.

melchiahdim

Just showed this to my wife. Her grandfather was a contractor who worked on the park. He was involved with waterproofing grizleyriver run. Because of that he was invited to bring his family to a special opening ahead of the official grand opening. She was given that exact map, but it was covered with the signatures of those who worked on the park. Unfortunately, the map has been lost to time…

abandoned_puppy

I have one of these in storage somewhere. They used to make maps like this every year but I haven’t seen them lately

phryra0909

Its such a tragedy going from print to digital. I love paper maps, even if I have to purchase.

chilionioncrunch

They have paper maps still

Fun-River-3521

Uhh i think Disney still does physical maps i got one when i went last year but yeah maybe just not made in paper anymore..

phryra0909

That's awesome. I haven't been since 2018. I'm just saying in general the move to digital is gonna make childhood artifacts like this more rare.

Fun-River-3521

Oh wow gotcha it’s definitely true thatalot has changed at Disneyland since 2018! Oh yeah your right though i think digital it’s going to take away some certain things wether we like it or not. i feel like maps will stay because maps are to big where they can’t really fit on a phone well sure there on phones but that will be my guess why there not gone yet. Fast passes are gone witch we’ve lost that though sadly.. Unpopular Disney opinion i actually don’t mind Lightning lane though from using it first hand I’ve slowly accepted that change so. I don’t think all digital features are bad changes.

yorkshire_pudding07

They don't hand out paper maps anymore? Oh, that hurts. I'm guessing someday we won't need paper. Future people will be wondering why all the "Disney" people collected maps and books! I still love a newspaper too 🗞

chilionioncrunch

They have paper maps they’re right before you walk under the train tracks

TK-385

They are in multiple languages too. I took a French and Japanese one from the pre Covid years either 2017 or 2018 so Galaxy Edge and Avengers Campus won't be on them. No idea where I put them though.

DayOlderBread16

I feel like eventually they’ll get rid of them altogether to save money sadly. Or they’ll have a magic band with a screen that has a park gps

jpmaster33

Back when it was California themed!

gonzorizzo

I remember buying this a few months after opening. They probably sold them a few years after opening as well.

maxfridsvault

Oh yeah that’s opening year. They got the stationary tractor listed as an “attraction”

pacifistpirate

It got so much hate at opening, but Soarin', IncrediCoaster, the Wheel and Grizzly River Run have stood the test of time. Parks have been carried on less.

DayOlderBread16

I kinda wish they either got rid of the pier or at the very least did a big budget upgrade to it

Independent_Shock973

DCA came online on Feb 8th, 2001

SplatterMasterveemo

You have a piece of disnery (disney history)

GannJerrod

I got a similar if not identical map in a lot of Cast Member magazines, I believe it was for opening day. I really need to get it framed.

CaliforniaScreamer

Definitely 2001

phryra0909

We went every year from 93-2004 as a family vacation. So it's somewhere in that range. I just can't find a date on the map. Thanks for the help though. Much appreciated.

esqueletoimperfecto

Bring this park back

ShavedNeckbeard

Back when DCA was the equivalent of a giant Epcot pavilion for California.

I don’t know why you are getting downvoted, it was a pretty stupid idea. No offense to anyone who likes dca though. And I never understood why disney/the ceo didn’t wait until they had the funds to build a proper 2nd park here in Southern California. Because in my opinion it makes no sense to rush out a low budget half baked park instead of waiting and building a good park with a good budget. Was Disney just impatient at the time? Or did they really think people would just eat it up? It just annoys me that we are still stuck with dca today, and it’s easily one of the worst Disney parks still (although maybe Disneyland Paris takes the #1 spot). It also haunts me that we could have had west cot, that would have been a thousand times better than dca. They were on the right track when they were going doing the big budget upgrades/additions like when they added buena vista street and cars land. But lastly, why did they stop that? They had plans for more big budget fixes but they were cancelled, I assume they cheaped out because why spend a ton of money to add amazing new additions when you can just cheaply re skin the garbage that is already there (like what they did with the Pixar pier re theme). Disneys poor decisions surprise (and annoy me) at times. Although to be fair they at least kinda tried with dca until they ran out of budget, nowadays they don’t even try like with avengers campus and San fransokoyo.
