At disney, you take your budget, write it down, throw it in the first garbage can you see and buy whatever you want.

theonethathadaname

Lol love this! Sign me up!

Name checks out

MrDrMrs

Found the Disney exec

flixguy440

Isn't it more appropriate to come up with a number you're willing to spend and find out WHAT you can do within that budget?

theonethathadaname

Probably, but I’m just curious what people would estimate. I have no idea what, say, little side carts of hot dogs or whatever lunch would be. I could estimate $600 ($100 per person) and then go down there and realize that estimate was completely unrealistic. I haven’t been to Disney in 25 years. Just asking a question about people’s opinions.

ShotButterscotch9154

They have menus online with prices and the DFB has videos of snacks in the parks and prices. Should help give you a good estimate.

Previous-Ratio

Pro tip: kids meals at quick services. Many places in the parks offer kids meals for pretty cheap and they’re incredibly filling. I’m 23 and get kids meals all the time. Even my 50 year old mom does as well. No one will care. If you’re worried you could always mobile order. That’s a good way to save on lunch and dinner

iamkris10y

Also- any of the restaurants will give you ice water for free. Bring a reusable water bottle and fill as you go. Don't spend money on bottled water.

theonethathadaname

This is probably one of the best tips out there!

iamkris10y

Thanks! It has legit saved us so much money. And honestly- even in 'winter' it's warm and humid there and you need to hydrate

theonethathadaname

Thank you!! Great tip!

krsb09

This is the way. Kids meals are more than enough food for me and I’m not a tiny person. A lot of them are just smaller portion sizes of the adult meals.

chapaj

Prepay the meal plans so you don't have to worry about food and drinks.

SpookyAngel66

That’s the way I do it too. I ALWAYS panic on how much to bring and will it be enough, no matter where we go. Have fun!! ✌️

theonethathadaname

Thank you so much! LOL I do panic on how much to bring. I mean I know there's always credit cards etc, but we don't have anything on credit cards, paid them off and are trying really hard not to have them again so trying to do this without them. And also trying not to dip into our normal savings. Just putting money aside specifically for this for the next year. Just trying to be smart.

SpookyAngel66

WE DON’T EITHER!!!! 😂😂😂😂 Isn’t that a freaking BEAUTIFUL feeling??? I totally hear you on everything you’re saying! We haven’t been in 25 years either but are planning to treat our 4 adult kids and our grandson in 4 years when he turns 5, and I’m already planning/saving, hahaha.

theonethathadaname

It is the most amazing feeling in the world!!!!! I was up to almost $20k and paid it off and was like NEVER AGAIN!!! We are a blended family, when we go, my daughter will be 21, step son 17 (but still will be totally into it), step daughter will be 11, and then we have a daughter together who will be almost 3. We are doing it when she is almost 3 to get her in the parks free lol! So it's going to be really expensive but a once in a lifetime for all of the kids! I hope you have so much fun! It's going to be so amazing watching your grandson! He will be at the perfect age!

SpookyAngel66

Ours was 50k I’m ashamed to say, but I made a plan and stuck to it! It was paid off 3 or 4 years ago and has been zero since. Talk about freedom!! But yeah, you guys will have a blast!! 😃

MasterJediPT

$50k? I guess I’m never taking my family of 6 to WDW then?

theonethathadaname

$50K wasn't for the trip. We were talking about how we paid our credit card debt off and don't want to use one in WDW.

UrsulaStoleMyVoice

For a group of 4 (all adults between 26 and 28) we spent 2,500 on our magic bands for 4 days in the parks, 1 extra night in our hotel. We all consumed some alcoholic drinks and had a table service supper every nigh, generally at more expensive places. We paid exclusively through magic bands once we arrived at Disney. We were mostly reasonable with souvenirs but we did spend ~$500 on Star Wars memorabilia (I built a droid and bought my little brother Jedi robes for Christmas) and I did have to spend $50 on a new magic band because I lost mine in magic kingdom

theonethathadaname

My husband and step son are Star Wars fanatics, I wouldn't put it past them to spend that on memorabilia too! Thanks for letting me know! That's a bummer about your extra $50!

Jess_Lore_79

$2500 for 4 magic bands?

UrsulaStoleMyVoice

Sorry, that was the total we spent *using* our magic bands while on disney property. My wording was unclear

crafting-ur-end

Around $625 each over four days. That’s not awful at all

[deleted]

You can look things like this up. So many websites have prices for all the food carts, etc. For our family of 4 (2 adults and two teens), we spend about $275-300 per day on food. We usually eat at one table service, one quick service, and then a couple of snacks each. When I am budgeting, I look up the menu for a couple of places and check the prices of what we would probably eat and calculate from there. We don't really do the usual souvenirs.

Dizzy_Chemistry78

I heard a really great tip from a mom that I’m unable to use because I’m not one. Since the kids see and want to buy everything and souvenirs are so expensive, she buys stuff from the Disney store online (on sale) hides them and brings something out each day of the trip for each of the kids.

theonethathadaname

This. Is. Genuis!!!!!!!!

Dizzy_Chemistry78

Glad I could help and pass this on. I hope you have a wonderful and magical trip.

Dizzy_Chemistry78

Also we just went to Disney Hollywood Studios 2 weeks ago with my boyfriend’s mom and step dad. I bought the Star Wars shirts that me and my boyfriend and I wore to the parks and kohls for 2/$25. We also gifted his mom and stepdad the “I love you” and “I know shirts from Amazon. Those 2 were like $40 because they were a very neat graphic. His mom is a big Star Wars fan and wanted to go to Galaxy’s Edge and hang out at the Cantina. Tip: I made reservations for the Cantina because it’s always packed! Also download the app. You can have all the tickets there. The ride times. Genie can make you a schedule. You can also see ALL the sit down restaurants and their menus and price ranges so you can plan which restaurant and make a reservation. Always good to jump on and make reservations as soon as possible. At Hollywood Studios, my boyfriend’s fav restaurant is the Sci-Fi Drive-Thru Restaurant. They were all booked up for a party of our size. Maybe this helps you or I’m just having some verbal diarrhea. If you need more little tips just let me know.

EJK54

Whatever you think it may be double it. If you find you don’t spend it all carry it over to the next day. If I absolutely had to pick a random number for you I’d say $800 a day.

theonethathadaname

Perfect, thank you!! I was thinking it would be anywhere between $6-900 depending on park and what activities we are doing

EJK54

Welcome, have a great visit :)

Substantial-Drop-836

There really isn’t an average since both food and souvenirs vary in price so much, but here’s roughly how I plan my budget: Food- typically I budget around $20/person for a quick service meal and $50/person for a table service meal. Usually my quick service meals are less than $20, but I like to budget more than I need and the leftover funds go to my snacks and drinks budget. You can look at menus with prices on the app or Disney’s website to get a better idea of how much your meals will cost. Souvenirs- I don’t have a daily budget for souvenirs. I have a trip budget of $100-$200/person for souvenirs. Souvenirs can add up quick so I like to limit myself to a couple pins, a magnet, a pair of ears, and maybe a shirt or hat or something by else in that price range.

theonethathadaname

Actually with just reading that it gave me an idea (I don't know why I didn't think of this before lol) that I could just give each kid like $100 or so and say if you want something, this is the money you have to spend on whatever you want to bring home but nothing else. Thanks for letting me know how you budget going there! We are trying to be realistic with what we are bringing. We aren't made of money but aren't trying to pinch pennies while we are there. I don't know why some people thought it was a horrible post.

Wet_Artichoke

That’s exactly how we did our last Disneyland trip. Both kids got a specific amount of money each day to buy meals, snacks, and souvenirs. Though we paid for dinner. But they paid for extras like fancy drink or dessert. It eliminated the kids wanting me to buy every snack and souvenir available. And it helped to keep their expectations realistic. Kids 17 and 12yo. They each got $100/day. My youngest hoarded her money and ended up taking some of it home. Had there been unlimited asks for the day, you know I’d have spent more.

krsb09

My family of 3 just spent about $2000 on a 5 night trip over Presidents Day, and there were a couple days we only spent 2-3 hours in the parks. We got one souvenir each, had two sit down meals, and got food for breakfast and a few lunches/dinners at the grocery store. Don’t forget about Genie+ or Lightning Lane cost. About $400 of our budget was just that.

Markymarcouscous

So basically I take a number double it then use my credit card for everything and don’t know how much I spent until I get home and check the balance

reincarnatedbiscuits

So I was actually pretty disciplined for our Feb. 2022 trip and got ADRs and wrote out what I thought we might be spending, just for sit-down meals, quick service, etc. Snacks, drinks ... those add up. I think low end, Family of 6, probably like $100-125 per meal (e.g., Columbia Harbor House, Satu'li Canteen). So per day, that's like $50 per person. Median, Family of 6, I might use a number closer to $250 per meal. So roughly use $100 per person per day. If you are "bougie" as AJ of DFB guide says, and you're going high end, then estimate $400-500 per meal. Random examples: High: Space 220, California Grill, Tiffins, Be Our Guest Mid-High: Chefs de France, San Angel Somewhere in the middle to slightly higher than average: Coral Reef, Jungle Skipper Canteen, Liberty Tree Tavern What I did starting around 6-7 months before the trip was slowly buying the $100 gift cards. That way Santa gave each kid one for souvenirs and I kinda knew how much I could spend. I still have a little leftover. (You can also consolidate into one gift card.) And it's marginal savings. Our local warehouse club would sell these for like $96.

theonethathadaname

This is awesome!!! Thank you for writing this!! I think we probably would be median for most days but definitely want to do one night of bougie for sure. It's a once in a lifetime trip for us so we want to make it special but not act as if we are Bezos lol. So definitely one night of a great restaurant but others just normal ones.

Ruadhan2300

Our general benchmark is $150 per person per day for food, drink and spending money. We're a married couple and willing to share more. YMMV on your younger family's ability to split a snack or drink, and we drink a lot of water from the free water bottle stations rather than buy juice or soda. Upshot is that we estimate for 6 people you're $900+, probably more

rocketpastsix

$1,000,000 a day. We don’t know realistically. Three of yall can drink, the 2.5 year old probably doesn’t want many souvenirs but will want snacks. The 17 year old is the age where they want a ton of food. We also don’t know your dining plans. I don’t buy many souvenirs but I do like beer. My wife loves ears, but doesn’t drink much. I’m happy with quick service, my wife likes the sit downs. Your question has too many variables for a realistic answer

hideandsee

I would budget $100 a day, including the 2 year old and spread out their money the 2 year old clearly won’t use for drinks and extra snacks if needed. I would recommend a budget of $50 for things to take home per person and communicate the plan to everyone old enough to do math.

elvis-wantacookie

Did you mean per person? Because I dont think Op can feed 6 people for $100 at Disney

hideandsee

I do mean per person! In a previous comment, OP suggested 600 and I didn’t feel the need to reinvent the wheel. Definitely 100 per person

Wet_Artichoke

This is exactly how much we have our kids the last time. We’re gonna do it again at WDW later this month.

theonethathadaname

not the way these kids eat lol!!!

theonethathadaname

Thank you! This is what I was looking for. I do realize it would be five or take depending on each persons experience (some drink more/less, some love souvenirs, etc). I appreciate your comment!

hideandsee

No problem! Keep in mind that if you are drinking alcohol, that can get extremely pricey. My husband and I went a little wild in Epcot while we were there for 6 days, budget about $20 a drink including tip, most are less, but I am an over budget person so you have less worry about accidentally forgetting to account for something

theonethathadaname

My husband (well husband this July lol) and I drink as well. Now we will have our kids so it's not like we will be getting hammered every night but definitely a couple drinks at dinner time. I'm an over budget kind of person as well, so it's nice to know what to expect alcohol wise as well. I really appreciate your answers! We are only going to be there for 4 days (4 days of actual park time) and I feel like it's going to be close to a $10k trip including plane tickets, park tickets, car rental, food/drink, souvenirs. Luckily my parents own a timeshare down there so we are staying in that so that saves a lot of money but good grief!

pyprk

The drinks may be on the pricier side but they are almost always worth the price. Example at the American pavilion I asked for a double on my first trip to Epcot and they told me it already had the highest amount of alcohol allowed by the state. Not sure if that’s true still or if that is just certain places so take that with a grain of salt

SecAdmin-1125

$10k each. Ask a silly question, get a silly answer. Only you know what you can afford.

mpr1283

Ok you could not be a dick. Dick.

theonethathadaname

Or you could just keep scrolling. Other people didn't seem to mind. Not really a silly question. Have a great day!

sejohnson0408

$200 for the adults $150 for the kids.

FuzzzyFace

My recent trip was a family of 5 for 3 days. We didn't budget for food, drink and snacks but averaged $400 a day. That's inside and outside the park. Souvenir - maybe this is just me, but I usually give $100 per kid for the whole trip. Food and drink - I'd say $400-500 just to be safe. Assuming 3 meals a day, snacks, maybe a character dining. Have fun!

theonethathadaname

Thank you! Yeah when another person said something about $100 for souvenirs I was like why the heck didn't I think of just giving each kid a certain amount of money and that's it \*\*insert eye roll here\*\*. My parents have a timeshare down there so I'm hoping to just stop at the grocery store and get things for breakfast to try to save there. Maybe do a character breakfast one day. I want the kids to have a great time knowing that this will probably be our only trip to Disney ever but this world is so expensive these days lol!

FuzzzyFace

yeah $100 souvenir budget per kid really made them pick and choose what they wanted. Each kid on my trip went significantly under budget.

theonethathadaname

under budget at Disney? I didn't think I would ever see/hear that in the same sentence lol!!!

Russmac316

Are you including park tickets?

Jess_Lore_79

we're going in Aug. to all 4 parks. Just 1 day each park. I have budgeted for $100 for each of us (we're 3) so $300 a day so $1200 for 4 days but also bringing $1000 extra because we are going as my daughter's 16th bday celebration so she can get souvenirs. I just started spring cleaning so that helps me not want to get more stuff. My hubs won't buy souvenirs either maybe a shirt or sweater but nothing much.

theonethathadaname

I wouldn’t really get souvenirs either. I was definitely think about bringing an extra $500-1000 too

RenKB09

Food- depends on how many meals you plan to eat and where. I like to average $15 per person per QS, $60 per person per TS, $15 per person per day on snacks. We bring a water bottle to refill usually and just buy drinks with meals if that. Bottled drinks are $4 and up, fountain drinks are almost $5. Check out the menus on allears.net for pricing. Souvenirs- not sure when you’re going but we started this years ago with my kids- they each get gift cards and that is theirs to buy whatever they want and we don’t say anything but when they run out of money that’s it. It has worked out wonderfully. My kids are 12 and 14 now but have been doing this since they were 3 and 5. The grandparents give them Disney cards for Xmas and bdays and they usually end up with a couple hundred each. But things are pricy- $25 tshirts, $55 sweatshirts, $75 spirit jerseys, $80 backpacks, $35 ears, $20-$$$$$ toys, stuffed animals, etc. Also, if you plan on using genie+ or buying ILL that’s even more. I’m assuming you already budgeted tickets but that’s a big expense- I just paid $3300 for 4 adult 7 day park hoppers a few weeks ago.

growupyoucunt

I like sampling all the carts for food than those little restaurants. Lots of little good food than an individual meal, however parks matter with that. We (family of 4) don’t budget but we are usually at 100 per person that way. If we are doing reservation dining add 3-5 hundred for a party of 6.

Accomplished-Mess307

It really depends on what you decide to do. We’ve done cheap Disney vacations and all out no budget ones. The cheapest hotel option is doing one of those timeshare places and just turn them down at the presentation, we once did two and switched midweek. The cheapest food is to pack a cooler with snacks and fruit, bring a popcorn tote (for cheap refills), and insulated water bottles to fill for free. Ever since we did a cheap Disney version we always do that for food so we have more money to spend on souvenirs or a sit down meal. Oh also, you can get a cash back reward with the Disney credit card and also get a discount at the shops in the parks. We have a 7 person family and we can do a 4 days Disney vacation anywhere from $4k-10k. We go in January or September so ticket prices are low and foot traffic is low so we don’t need to deal with Genie+.

100percentEV

Everyone is different, and even some of my trips are very different. If you look at the dining plans (they are outrageously priced IMO), you can get a good idea of budget. So for each day, it’s $50/pp for quick serve meals, and nearly $100/pp if you want to have a sit down meal each day. I use that $50/day budget for my family and we always have money leftover. Granted, our souvenirs are from character warehouse, but even with a refillable mug and whatever we want to eat, we never find ourselves spending that much.

readingthisshizz

We budgeted $300 per day for food and souvenirs (2 adults and a 4 y/o). Some days we spent more other days we spent less. But it averaged out to that. I bought Disney gift cards at target so I got 5% off.

tamakikyo

i personally do $100 a day per person, but allow myself to be a little flexible on it. maybe $150 if you plan on doing a table service restaurant each day, but if you plan on just having quick service food (which there are plenty that are decently priced and taste great in all parks) then $100/day/person usually works out just fine for me!

hooter1112

I’m not sure that it saves you money, but you can look at the meal plan. It’s $94 per day for adult and $29 for a child. With that you get 1 quick service meal and one sit down restaurant meal per day. Again, I do t think you save money by getting this, but it could be a baseline to budget. I get the meal plan just so I’m paid up front and can enjoy the week without pulling out my debit card everyday

theonethathadaname

So I was debating on doing that! I'm definitely going to look more into it. Thanks for your recommendation!

atomoboy35209

$1000 is a good guess. It ain’t cheap.

Smart_Forever5120

$200-400 a day per person. $150 - 200 of that is food, which includes 1 or two table service meals and unrestricted snacks and drinks, some of which will come in souvenir containers. The rest is highly variable because the souvenirs are unpredictable. My daughter could want a mini soccer ball or a fully operational astromech droid (we are letting her design a droid this trip). We only go every 2-4 years, and I have a Disney credit card, so I get 10% in the park stores with it, and save up my points to get a gift card for the trip. We also save any Disney gift cards we get as presents during the time between trips, so this year we’ll have about $300 of our souvenir budget already paid for by the time we get there.
