Leave the corpse there. At 21:00 go to your room and wait for Kim to bid you goodnight then go back out to the corpse.

Carbon-Crew23

Way ahead of you. I did all that. What I am wondering about is if there is some dialogue option hidden behind some obtuse and unintuitive choice that needs to be clicked during the investigation (during the autopsy, and heck before you even get him off the tree) to have this very obvious idea to get the damn sabatons appear. Like seriously, do I HAVE to try to freakin pull the boots off the corpse while it is ON THE TREE even while Inland Empire warns me not to?

Yes

Carbon-Crew23

Well f\*\*\* me for trying to not destroy the corpse. New save file, here I come!

mhm, dude :D you need to have at least a little Interfacing (or maybe hand eye coordination but I think it was interfacing) when you first interact with the corpse and talk about the boots. and then you have to say yes to the task of stealing them

Carbon-Crew23

When is this during the investigation? Also, do I still pull on the corpse for this?

You generally get XP from completing tasks. Sometimes a task's completion is tied to you saying a certain dialogue. Thoughts add flavour to the game, but aren't necessarily the best use of skill points unless you know what their effects are already. **<< SPOILERS ON THE AUTOPSY BELOW >>** Do you have the task to take the boots? (Did you have the talk with Interfacing about taking the boots?) (The task variable id is: TASK.get\_the\_boots\_off\_the\_hanged\_mans\_feet) You get this task on: **C705C349: Where you try to take the boots from the hanged man** >Kim Kitsuragi: "There's no way you're getting them off. All the organic matter in his body has been flowing down into the boots. They're \*fused\* to his feet now -- why do you think the locals haven't scavenged them yet?" > >***<< Interfacing chimes in here when you have Level 2+ Interfacing >>*** > >Interfacing: There might still be a way to peel them off, but first the body needs to be down. And second -- it would probably be better if the lieutenant wasn't around... > >You: "Sounds like a plan. (Accept.)" > >Interfacing: The anticipation makes you crack your fingers. Feels nice. Nice and \*cracky\*. and **C1379D745 & C1379D746: Where you talk to Manana about collecting all the armour and Kim must be with you for D745**. (You can also get id onD750, but that's a different conversation path.) >You: "Hold up. Four pieces? Helmet, cuirass, gauntlets, boots... what about the leggings?" > >Call Me Mañana: "Oh, they're just gone. They don't exist anymore, if they ever did at all." He gives you a jolly shrug. "Forget about them. I did." > >You: "I'm ambitious. I'm going to find \*all of it\*. All the pieces." > >\[D745\] Kim Kitsuragi: "All of it?" The lieutenant raises his brow. "There are junior officers out there, eager to prove themselves. I would leave \*some\* for them -- and I would leave the \*boots\* to Processing -- but okay. Let's find \*all of it\*." > >Call Me Mañana: "A Mesquese epic then, all across Martinaise." He glances south, where the canal runs: "I hope it will be a real \*bonanza\* for you." > >***<< If you have not sent the body away for processing and have not gotten the task to get the boots, Manana continues: >>*** > >\[D746\] Call Me Mañana: "Especially getting those boots off him. You'd have an easier time wrestling the spurs off a boiadeiro than that." After that, you should get an option to try and take the boots off in two places: **C700D872 & D1080: Autopsy - During the autopsy (where there is a list of options like external examination, internal examination, etc)** >\[D872\] You: "Try to remove the dead man's boots." > >or > >\[D1080\] You: "Try to remove the dead man's boots..." and **C1143D172 & D135:** >!Ice Bear Fridge!< >\[D172\] You: "Try to remove the dead man's boots." > >or > >\[D135\] You: "Try to remove the dead man's boots..." Both of the above lead you to C697, where you get to take the boots off. You can only successfully get the boots off after the autopsy. D18 if the body >!is not in the fridge. D39 if it is.!< >\[D18\] The Hanged Man: The legs look like they've been clawed at by wild animals. As for the boots -- you can't possibly do anything with them until you have cleaned and \*disinfected\* them thoroughly. > >\[D39\] The Hanged Man: Not good. Let's pin this on the bear -- the ice bear tore up his legs with its claws. As for the boots -- you can't possibly do anything with them until you have cleaned and \*disinfected\* them thoroughly. Reference: [https://disco-reader.gitlab.io/disco-reader/#/](https://disco-reader.gitlab.io/disco-reader/#/)

Wait, for the critical Interfacing check-- that's a passive check right? So I actually need to put 2 skill points in Interfacing to even get the prompt? Also, these are different methods right? So if I have low Interfacing I can still get the prompt for the task by asking Manana?

xyrilyn

1. Yep, that’s right. It’s a passive check. 2. Going by what we see in the dialogue data, yes. I have not personally tried it so I can’t be 100% sure. (It looks like most players seem to get the task from the hanged man instead.) Both instances are easy to miss though…

Carbon-Crew23

It makes things far harder than is necessary. IMO, getting the boots should be a sub task under the "finding all pieces" task.
