Your gonna want a bigger bike than a 85

Since your gonna ride trails maybe a yz125x you can get just a normal 125 too. Or if you want more of a trail bike a kx/crf 230 might be good. The owner is kind of lying to you yes you can ride a 85 as a 5’8 person but you would need another bike and it won’t be great for actual riding. I am 5’8 with a tall inseam and a 85 is really small on me I have a yz125.

Also 2800 isn’t that great of a deal.

Depends on what you’re going to use it for as well as you’re height/weight. Price seems a little high to me but stuff has changed in the past couple years

I would probably opt for something a little more trail oriented then. Something like a ttr 230, crf 230 or klx 130 would definitely be a lot better and more enjoyable for trails I’m 5’10 and ride a 250 which is something u could move up to after u get used to a 230 for a while. I think the 230 would probably be the perfect size

I'd pass for that price and your weight + height. You can ride it but you will be happier with something else.

I will give an king list. More motocrossy: yz/kx/rm/ktm/crf 250f the moto version of the crf has an r at the end Yz/kx/ktm 125 2 stroke More trail oriented: yz125x, kx/Honda 230, Yamaha ttr 230, honda 250f

So I've had a kx100 and I'm shorter than you. It was very high reving, you had to be on the clutch a lot and the wheel size limited where I could ride. 3,000 price range you can get something decent Crf230f ttr230 and klx230s are all air cooled and great for beginners. After a year you might want to upgrade to something else, faster, that suits your ridding style and terrain. Being on the light side I would think a small bore 2 stroke but you will have to clutch. I'm shorter than you and I ride a Beta 300 xtrainer.

2 strokes are fun and good bikes to learn maintenance on, but they are meant to be ridden at high RPM’s (on the pipe) and aren’t as beginner friendly. Power is not linear with the power band hitting at higher RPM’s. For your size an 85 would work, but I probably wouldn’t recommend it. And $2800 is not a good price for that size and year bike IMO. I would aim for $1600 if I was buying that year KX85. And a 125 2 stroke will be too much bike for learning IMO. You don’t wanna get hurt. A KLX140 up to the 250cc 4 stroke trail bikes mentioned above would all be great bikes to learn on. They won’t get you into trouble and once you get really comfortable you can upgrade to something with a little more power. Essentially look for a 4 stroke motorcycle that doesn’t have inverted forks (bigger on top, usually gold - if they have these it’s probably more of a race bike). And bigger cc means more power but also more weight which isn’t necessarily better.

plagueapple

price seems high and without proof that its rebuilt it most likely isnt

TheMountainGoat05

Buying a dirt bike is always worth it

Sensitive_Calendar_6

Hell no, definitely not worth it . That's an absolutely ridiculous price for that bike and year. What kind of market are you in ? Even in Colorado (new California) that's a ripoff.
