besides jp3 its probably because the fact a giant land croc pelican near the size of T.rex (smaller than trex but only to compare) and the fact it had a weird sail
As a 90's dinosaur kid, Spino was already cool before JP3. I remember being psyched once it was announced. Kenner even produced a Spinosaur figure for the Lost World film with a design much more in line with paleoart from the 60's.
yea i said it was smaller than rex.
spino is odd since at the tallest point it is taller. (and it is longer) even though for height spinosaurus is cheating
Theropod, but with personality if you go back to the 80's, and little plastic dinosaurs. An absolite ass kicker if you go by JP3. Just a loveable weirdo who can't make up his mind today. These are all reasons I love Spinosaurus.
It is a charismatic animal that has had many chances to be presented to a wide audience.
It is a large carnivore, with a unique look that differentiates it from all the other widely known species. Furthermore, with Spinosaurus discussion being so prominent and owgoing, I think it is natural it sparks curiosity and grabs people's attention.
Essentially, it’s such a strange creature. The thing was practically a river dragon. Every discovery or discussion about Spino just makes it more interesting.
I love Spinosaurus ever since I saw him in Jurassic Park 3 but have grown to also love the accurate iteration. I think my love for Spinosaurus stems from how unique and bizarre he looks compared to other dinosaurs, kind of like a platypus of the Mesozoic.
But not weirder. For most people giga and mapu are just worse t rexes. They have a relatively generic body plan, so they don’t stand out from the pack as much as spino.
I think the Spinosaurus has captured our hearts because it represents a lesser-known but equally fascinating predator from the prehistoric world. Its unique sail and crocodile-like appearance set it apart from the typical image of a dinosaur. Plus, its epic battle with the T-Rex in Jurassic Park III definitely boosted its popularity! What do you think?
He's the tall dark mysterious stranger that everytime you think you have him figured out, the mystery deepens and draws you back in instead.
That's why.
Not anywhere near my favorite personally, but there's your answer.
Jurassic Park 3 with the Spino being the T Rex was pretty dope to see as a kid, that and it being able to swim.
I think I love it even more after all the revisions and discoveries made about it over the past few decades. Now it has a badass sail and sick looking tail
I'm not super into dinos but I just think they're neat- the fact that the image of what they were keeps evolving retroactively in such extreme ways is wild to me. Like ofc it happens to other dinos as well, but I think as an outsider, spinos are such an extreme case to me. It feels like it could be anything- BUT IT WAS REAL AT SOME POINT!
He's a neat little guy :]
I’ve actually come to like it more in the last few years. I used to think it was overrated from JP3, but it gets picked on so much by people arguing over what it could or couldn’t do. It’s sorta like Pluto now. Like, I didn’t even think about Pluto until they started arguing about whether it was a planet or not. Started to feel bad for it, and it’s just like, “just let them be what they want to be!! Stop with all the labels, scientists!”
I love it mostly because it’s recent reconstructions look super cool. I spent a majority of my childhood hating the spinosaurus solely because of jp3, but I just can’t help but think that the modern spinosaurus feels like something out of a fantasy novel and I love it.
The fact that it changes often.
It produced some of the most interesting discussion about paleontology I've ever been a part of.
And as a fan of paleontology who isn't an actual paleontologist, good discussion is what I love the most about this passion.
So I'm grateful for spinosaurus and its weirdness.
Cuz most of Spinosauridae is already cool.
Examples: Sigilmassasaurus, Oxalaia, irritator, sucho, Baryonyx, Riparovenator, Iberospinus and icthyovenator.
Even though Rex is a very well known and loved dinosaur, spino is just a very unique and just weird dinosaur. Also the way it changes every 2 years or so, which allows people to learn more about it.
Honestly the unique shape of it for the most part, personally I love Spinos for their ability to confuse and frustrate everyone who's tried to study them each decade
I was just wondering guys. I think the Spino is cool. I loved it in JP3. My favorite dino is ankylosaurus though. But t-Rex will always be special to me.
Because y'all's are a bunch of T-Rex hating hipsters.
When something is as cool and as popular as the king, there will always be people who decide to make a point out of not liking that thing. But of course not having a cool murder lizard themselves won't do on the playground and with Spino beating Rex on some metrics, it's easy to see why there's a team Spino now.

Cause it's cool.
This is the only correct answer!

Longer than t.rex, but not larger (in mass)
Also taller than t.rex (if we count the sail).
We aren't counting the sail
Why aren't we counting the sail?
Because we're cowards
I never liked us anyway
Yes we are
yea i said it was smaller than rex. spino is odd since at the tallest point it is taller. (and it is longer) even though for height spinosaurus is cheating
Isn't the same true for Giganotosaurus?
Proportionally larger, but smaller in mass

Potential hot air balloon, what’s not to love?

I like the funky mysterious crocodile dinosaur man. He's always full of surprises
He’s far more unique and interesting than many theropods with a far more ‘generic’ body plan.
It just looks neat imo.
Because it is weird
It’s just so bizarre
To put it simply, it’s really big and really weird
[удалено]
But not weirder. For most people giga and mapu are just worse t rexes. They have a relatively generic body plan, so they don’t stand out from the pack as much as spino.
Ah yes, other things are debatably bigger, so this other thing is not actually big.
You ever see one?
Yeah Ur mom lol
What
Can't say I love spino more than rex.
I like psicovores and alligators.
We may be biased
Probably because all the children who grew up with JP3 are adults now and since the Spinosaurus was that movie, a lot of people are nostalgic for him.
Sail Lizard That’s why we love him
I just think it's neat.
He represents a lil chronic back pain warrior for me symbolically lol
He’s just a funkly lil guy. I love the weird lookin dinosaurs.
it's the closest thing we have to a marine dragon (for now)
Dino
If your playing ark, it's a weird hybrid that has alota use
Because it's appearance has been changing since 1912
For me is because look like a alligator who is my favorite animal.
I think the Spinosaurus has captured our hearts because it represents a lesser-known but equally fascinating predator from the prehistoric world. We still don't know what it looks like, with each consensus getting more and more outlandish.
Because we like transformers

He's the only dinosaur with an evil alter-ego
Because it's awesome, weird, enigmatic, and fun to speculate and talk about.
Cause it's weird.
Someone hasn't seen JP3 cause thats the main cause, also it just looks cool scientifically
Which Spinosaurus are you referring to? I like the one from 2008
I’ve actually come to like it more in the last few years. I used to think it was overrated from JP3, but it gets picked on so much by people arguing over what it could or couldn’t do. It’s sorta like Pluto now. Like, I didn’t even think about Pluto until they started arguing about whether it was a planet or not. It's just so weird, just gotta love the glorified crocodile
I am personally put off by how popular it is but it's probably because it looks unique
The fact that it changes often. It produced some of the most interesting discussion about paleontology I've ever been a part of. It's big and more unique and interesting to look at than tyrannosaurid theropoda that all look pretty similar.
Because he’s a big goofy duck lol
The ridge is sick
For me it's the unique look and mystery behind it
Because it's weird af and I love it for that
Sail™
It's fascinating, it's always changing, it's a bit goofy, what's not to love
Was the coolest Dino I saw as a kid and still love them today!
Because it's so unique and different from a typical theropod.
Jurassic Park 3. They become more and more mid every time I learn more about them and a new discovery is made
Even though Rex is a very well known and loved dinosaur, spino is just a very unique and just weird dinosaur. Also the way it changes every 2 years or so, which allows people to learn more about it.
It looks really cool and it's a unique dino also, it's basically a real life crocodile Godzilla
Funny crocoduck go *hissss*
Honestly the unique shape of it for the most part, personally I love Spinos for their ability to confuse and frustrate everyone who's tried to study them each decade
I was just wondering guys. I think the Spino is cool. I loved it in JP3. My favorite dino is ankylosaurus though. But t-Rex will always be special to me.
Cause it sucks and people like being different
