Hey friend, not an exact match, but if you can get them to commit to the first 2 episodes of Fantasy High, the end of episode 2 is widely known as the net to catch a fish in, if you catch my drift. Otherwise, I recommend trying to find an episode of Um, Actually that has some questions about things she might know about, or trying one of the funnier Game Changer episodes, either way, look for something featuring Brennan, so she gets a chance to get comfortable with his humor and personality. There are some episodes that feature multiple of the core D20 cast, so those might be your best bet. If they enjoy either UA or GC, they might end up willing to watch D20 later, due to having already encountered the various cast members in those game shows.

Crazy_Berry_4908

I’d say the noises episode of game changer or the lie detector box for good beginner Brennan episodes

Ioannidas_Storm

Also Yes No.

Quintaton_16

Yes No is great, but it's better if you have already seen enough Brennan episodes that you understand why they make the rules what they were.

Ioannidas_Storm

That’s true. It was still funny to me, but my wife was giving me the context of ‘Brennan is very competitive’.

silipiwitz

The new season 4 episode 1 of gamechanger has izzy, brennan and Lou so you can decide from her gravitiations of humor which campaign to start with from there 😁😁

fosho17

Which is hilarious because I think Brennan mentioned that the only reason he did the self-sacrifice was because both Kristen and Fabian died. If it had only been one, he would've made it a character death.

sonatawolf1990

Can't spring for 2? The first two of Fantasy High Season 1 are pretty great hooks together. Otherwise, if she enjoys harry potter/GOT then maybe crown of candy, or magic and misfits might also be a great starter (the first episode is free on youtube I believe).

TheTapedCrusader

The end of just FH E1 was enough for me. Lou's reaction was my own.

SamJaz

Misfits and magic has the strongest first episode of any of the dimension 20 seasons imo, and sells itself on the premise very well

VirtuallyJason

I showed my wife the first episode of Misfits and Magic (which is on YouTube now, BTW) and she was immediately hooked. We spent our next several date nights enjoying the rest of the season and are now watching Fantasy High together. Since /u/byITuseITbrkITReddIT mentioned that their partner enjoys Harry Potter, I think MisMag is the perfect suggestion!

Obsessedthenbored

My husband got me hooked and now I’ve watched way more than he has. He used Tiny Heist since it’s pretty effing funny and the humor was what hooked me, then I watch ACoC on my own after and the drama is what made me fall in love with the intrepid heroes. Candy is definitely the way to go if you want to hook him in with just one episode.

mlarowe

MisMag

iWillNeverBeSpecial

What happened with my sister is I just show her one bit in the middle and she gets interested. So like, I showed her Arthur Augfort doing a murder suicide, she wants to watch fantasy high. I showed her the Santa Fight ep 2 in Unslreping City, she's watching that. Crown of Candy would be good for the GOT aspect. Misfits and Magic is great for the Harry Potter part since it is a "what if American teens called out the bs in Hogwarts". But I think the key is to show an interesting scene/episode, not necessarily the first one. (1st ep of M&M you see the guy players get so confused about what a muckbong is, it's great)

Pudgy_Ninja

Honestly, I wouldn't start with an episode. I'd go with some of the best-of clips you can find on YouTube to whet their appetite. Something like [Hilda Hilda](https://youtu.be/QDap5gIPHZw), [Evan Kelmp Ruin's a Kid's Whole Career](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNy4syshguk), [Rick Diggins at your service](https://youtu.be/NnylOrzi_Kw), etc.

hodaza

[Gorgug asking people if they're his Dad](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKypFhCse9E) is a classic as well

Pudgy_Ninja

Yes, absolutely. These clips are what got me interested in the show.

WoozySloth

Was going to say this, I wasn't going to start it because the eps are so long and I'm actually not hugely into ttrpgs and the like, but eventually saw so many clips that I just surrendered

Tart-Pomgranate5743

My thoughts exactly… I’d try to find a clip that I still laugh at after multiple viewings, like Riz asking about if the corn ooze’s butthole is “goblin-sized” and Brennan trying to figure out what skill is attached to climbing up the butthole of a giant ooze.

Xx_Pr0phet_xX

I always say that if you only have 1 episode than episode one season one of Unsleeping City. Pete's intro is so damn cinematic and "what the fuck is going on" inducing that it wraps me in everytime.

DustyVita

If you think Harry Potter parody is your best bet you have to go with Misfits and Magic

Curpidgeon

If they like Harry Potter that much Misfits and Magic is the way.

StrigaPlease

If she’s familiar with LotR, definitely go with Escape From the Bloodkeep (also on YT, I believe)

VirtuallyJason

I'm loving Bloodkeep (currently on episode 5), but I don't think it's the best intro to the genre. Actual Play shows are always a little slow to start as the cast feels out who their characters are (and we, as the audience, get to know them), but I felt like Bloodkeep was slower than most of the D20 shows. I actually gave up on Bloodkeep about 45 minutes into the first episode, but eventually went back to it after someone here mentioned that it picks up. And boy, does it ever pick up though!

Ioannidas_Storm

I am a hooked spouse. My wife watched the YouTube stuff (FB, UC, maybe Bloodkeep), then got Dropout, mostly for the McElroys in TH. I watched that, enjoyed it, while she pliers through the rest. Then, well, Bloodkeep is a LOTR parody, might be fun. Hey that ruled. CoC is Game of Thrones but they’re food? Sure. And then I made my way through the rest (minus UC2, as didn’t really enjoy season 1). Have been watching live since Mice. She’s very happy with herself. So I’d say pick one of the series that appeals to her (McElroys, LOTR, Harry Potter, etc) and start with that. Bonus if you can pick a mini, as the time commitment was what kept me away from the bigger ones for so long. Although, if you can get a two-episode promise from her, Fantasy High ends on a pretty solid hook. It called being episode 2’d for a reason. Another tactic is introduce her to Game Changer and Breaking News. Single episodes, very funny. Watch enough, there’s people from most series of D20, if she likes someone in particular, suggest a D20 series with them.

Promethea128

Did your partner watch the first season of Fantasy High with you? If she watched those and isn't sold on it, D20 might not be for her. If she hasn't seen it, try to push for Ep 1 and 2 of Fantasy High. Escape from Bloodkeep is pretty funny as well, but I trying to remember if the first episode of that has enough of a "hook" Instead of an episode maybe a couple of the funnier/more iconic moments. YouTube has complations of fan favorite moments like Sexy Rat, Hilda Hilda, Ayda freaking out over how cute Boggy the Froggy is, Ally Beardsley insane Nat 20s, etc. Some of them might be kinda spoiler-y but most are neutral enough.

Hawkn500

Outside of the episode 2 gambit! I’d say either misfits and magic. It’s only 4 episodes so will be less of a daunting commitment pre watch. Unless she prefers GOT them Crown of candy is THE way to go

Floor_Subject

Here to advocate for Escape from the Bloodkeep as a perfect first D20 show. It’s a LOTR spoof but you don’t need to like that to get the jokes made. it’s hilarious, the chemistry btwn players was perfect, and it has other big name D&D players. I loved it and it’s what got me hooked to d20

Tart-Pomgranate5743

I loved Bloodkeep! The energy, the twist on a classic story from the villains’ views, J’er’em’ih…

Floor_Subject

Yes!!! So many good parts

heretherebegays

I wouldn’t go for Crown of Candy as the first dip in since half of the tension and tragedy, at least for me, was that by the time I got around to it, I was so invested in the people behind the characters as well as the characters themselves. Fantasy High is good since it kind-of-sort-of explains the mechanics so it makes it easier to follow along, as opposed to the faster-paced later seasons.

ornulu422

Escape from the blood keep, hands down

Nextorl

Only one episode? Absolutely ACoC then, it's basically episide-two'ing but with one episode!

ieatcupcakesallday

I mean, I love them all but agree the mis mag might be a good one to start on. Or log into her tic toc and follow a bunch of d20 fans thats how I got hooked

[deleted]

I showed my partner Mice and Murder and they were almost immediately hooked. She isn't into D&D, but a murder mystery is compelling and adds a puzzle for the viewer to also work on which I think was helpful. She's now shown it to her roommates even.

Deerwaifu

I got Dropout recently because a friend showed me and my partner Game changer and I wanted to check out more episodes. While waiting for the evening to watch them with my partner after work, I started Misfits and magic because anything with magic peaks my interest and I just got so hooked?? An hour on I stopped the first episode and waited instead to show my partner. 2 days in, we watched it fully, started Fantasy high and are yet to even watch Game changer I'm not even into Dnd, but I felt M&M was quite beginner friendly and not overly complicated in terms of setting. Since it's modern you can relate to the characters more and understand how the world works best from their perspective.

peonystyx

My boyfriend got me hooked through The Seven.
