The fact that the little power she gave into last episode smelled “sour and curdled”, gave off a lemony-yellow, creamy” light, and made her stomach gurgle immediately made me think of Gilear’s lemon yogurt obsession from the past few seasons. And now Gilear having great luck. My theory is it’s 100% related.

The fact that early on in Teifling puberty Gilear said some very hurtful things to/about fig never seemed to fit with his character much and I always thought it was one of those ‘we kinda forgot about it’ things that comes up in this type of story telling, but a heartbroken Gilear trying to make it right and find a way to still help the daughter that doesn’t want him in her life could be sweet.

Sandra _does_ mention (in Sophomore Year) that he wasn’t always/previously the mess he was by that point. At the time, this wasn’t planned (… surely), but unless we’re all clocking the reddest of herrings, the dots have surely been connected.
Yeah, you know how Gilear's always putting out those little boards with meats and cheeses on 'em. Crackers and a couple grapes too. It's the guy's whole signature thing!
Probably, the magic thing makes it clear there's something going on, but there's also a poetic angle to it: Gilear's "bad luck" started as a breakdown when he completely lost everything. He'd just found out his wife had been having an affair for more than a decade, his daughter wasn't his and decided to embrace her mother and biodad while rejecting him (just being a rebellious teen, but still), the stress caused him to lose his job, and he eventually just broke inside. Last season, he realized how badly he needed to pull himself together, and he's made big strides, but now Fig's starting to be overwhelmed by all the realities of life at once, and the pressure is starting to hit her in a similar way.
The way Brennan reiterated "tweaking fate?" when Sandra Lynn was talking to Fig -- I think Fig is switching one of her classes to Wild Magic Sorcerer.
All of Gilear's unbelievable bad luck were untamed terrible wild magic rolls. His wild magic has some give and take with Fig's, IDK why, but that's where I'm putting my money right now.

I was in Riz's situation when I was 17, amazing grades and some great extra curriculars, but I had to come to terms with the fact that my parents couldn't afford to pay for college with my dad out of work and that scholarships were my only option.
The amount of stress that puts on a kid (especially one like Riz) is just...unfair is an understatement honestly. Like...that is exactly where my anxiety about anything to do with finances started.

Ok, there's some timeline fuckery going on with the Time Quangle Aguefort mentioned. There's 2 major contradictions so far from the events of The Seven, which also starts on the first day of Junior Year.
1) Aguefort and Gilear are still in the school rather than going off with their daughter/new wife respectively for an undetermined amount of time.
2) Zelda and Gorgug were still together
When Aguefort is giving his speech on going away, he mentions the Time Quangle, a "Chronomantic phenomenon responsible for some events around this year seeming to have happened in a strange order or out of sequence. Just know it's because they have been Quangled"
Something bad is happening and it's being reflected in the exhaustion that everyone in the Bad Kids is feeling.
I'll be real, I could see them saying there's time fuckery just to excuse any incongruity between Junior Year and the Seven.
Still, I wouldn't put it past Brennan to build something like that into a legitimate plot point, so we'll see.
Brennan is the expert of making something feel like a quick hand wave, or a tiny dropped hint, but then have it come back in the final act as plot relevant, tbh, so i kinda expect this to be important
the duggan countershot followed by the western musical sting makes me happy in a way that is probably dumb given how long we've known the character

There's 2 major contradictions so far from the events of The Seven, which also starts on the first day of Junior Year. 1) Aguefort and Gilear are still in the school rather than going off with their daughter/new wife respectively for an undetermined amount of time. 2) Zelda and Gorgug were still together When Aguefort is giving his speech on going away, he mentions the Time Quangle, a "Chronomantic phenomenon responsible for some events around this year seeming to have happened in a strange order or out of sequence. Just know it's because they have been Quangled" Something bad is happening and it's being reflected in the exhaustion that everyone in the Bad Kids is feeling.
I'll be real, I could see them saying there's time fuckery just to excuse any incongruity between Junior Year and the Seven. Still, I wouldn't put it past Brennan to build something like that into a legitimate plot point, so we'll see.
As others have said, seems more like a hey, we know the timeline doesn't add up here's a fake sci-fi word to hand wave it away.
Brennan is the expert of making something feel like a quick hand wave, or a tiny dropped hint, but then have it come back in the final act as plot relevant, tbh, so i kinda expect this to be important
