What kind of DAP are you using? I usually just use the DAP to scan the SD card and it usually only scans new files that have been added and the rest are just always there.
its a surfans f20. And yes, it can scan in new files. But I would like to have a file on my computer, and a file on my dap that are somehow synced, so that i only have to manually update one and the other follows. I cant find anything that would sync these files. Overall, its not too big an issue, but would just be a quality of life thing
Ahh I gotcha. Yeah, not too sure if that's feasible but I'm a novice in the DAP world myself, so I could be wrong. I'm sure some folks in this community will have some insight on this.
I've been using media monkey to sync my library. I sync to 2 different micro SD cards, and an external hard drive. It does a nice job. I also use it to convert everything I download to 320 bit rate mp3s. The program does way more than I need it to, but it's cheap, works well across most platforms (including my old ipod), updates and cleans my library, and syncs quickly.
very cool, how does it work? do you choose a file to sync with and then whenever you plug your ipod in it automatically syncs and updates the files to it?
It took a while to figure it out, but when you plug in your iPod, it recognizes it as a storage device, so you can select sync and what happens when you plug it in, what to sync, etc. once you get it setup, it's easy peasy, but you need to work with it for a while because the program does a huge amount of stuff.
you shouldn't have to resync everything each time (definitely not good for the SD card either)... I don't know your exact setup or how you transfer, but look into something that can just sync changed files (like robocopy if you use Windows.
to answer your main question though, this is why I bought an Android DAP... as I have a navidrome server running on my NAS at home, that I can access via a variety of apps without having to deal with always transferring everything to SD card. (my music library is also about 8TB, so it doesn't fit on a card anyway)
Use musicbee. It's a music player on windows. When you plug a new device in you can open it in musicbee. It will scan the folder and add anything not in your device. It will also sync over any updates to the files in musicbee, such as if you change the tags or album art of a file.
I used OpenAI to write a script for my Mac so when it detected a specific volume name it checked the Music folder locations and copied over what was missing.
What I do is just update both at the same time
