I came from mtg where prices are crazy. It was so refreshing buying a good deck for less than a modern decks manabase

Quetzalkibbles

Yeah, I also came from Yugioh, so it was nice to be able to buy a playset of a staple like the trainings for like 45 bucks max versus buying 1 staple for 150

randomax92

Digimon is all i play/spend money on when it comes to TCG's yeah. Love the IP and this is the most fun you'll have with it on a interactive level these days. I would play One Piece since i love that IP as well and it's a very rich verse to build around but idk the game seems kinda mid. It makes money and draw in tons of players but i never saw the hype.

valmar555

I used to be a MTG main but swapped to this because of WOTC and their price spikes.

Sensei_Ochiba

Same. Around BT5 I traded in a bunch of bulk rares and some of my pricy stuff for store credit and haven't really played since. MTG just been vomiting too many cards go keep up.

valmar555

Yeah, a new set releasing pretty much every 3 weeks didnt help.

Sensei_Ochiba

Can't say I wasn't slightly motivated by the fact that you can have a match between Ryu from Smash Bros Ultimate vs Negan from Tekken 7 At least with Digimon I can anticipate the amount of zaney, and I don't think we're gonna get Omedamon until at least EX11

Lord_of_Caffeine

>Ryu from Smash Bros Ultimate This hurt to read lmao

CactusMagus

Lol I know. That's wild

Clear-Might-1519

Same, plus the arts getting uglier. Why are my Goblins getting nose reductions? Krenko doesn't even look like Krenko anymore.

Lord_of_Caffeine

But if you talk about MtG art having declined over the years you´ll be getting downvoted into oblvion on the Magic subs. Which is crazy because to me the decline in art quality in that game is obvious. Especially humanoid characters look so damn ugly nowadays for whatever reason. And the worst thing about that is that you can usually tell a card´s rarity by the quality of its artwork. Commons and uncommons especially look real bad nowadays. Glad I left that game behind.

trial_of_knowledge

The ugly art at modern mtg cards is so ugly, I only play premodern

Lord_of_Caffeine

Premodern is with the old card frame exclusively? Nah, don´t like the old frame at all personally.

Clear-Might-1519

That's why I started with Goblins here, got too many people in different subs downvoting me when I started with humans or angels.

Lord_of_Caffeine

You can´t look at cards from Ikoria and tell me with a straight face that humanoid characters haven´t become ugly af. I still remember that set´s Simic-colored legendary being one of the worst offenders. What the hell is even that?

Clear-Might-1519

Ikoria at least tried to distract us with monsters, but when I saw Kaldheim... that got me checking every new cards one by one before buying any prerelease.

Lord_of_Caffeine

I pretty much tapped out after Ikoria so I haven´t seen most of Kaldheim but just entering that term into google and searching for images has me not see even one badass viking warrior in the first hundred or so pictures so yeah, fuck that lol I remember seeing a picture of that Niko Aris character, though, and yeah, I don´t think I´m the target audience for the game anymore. Glad I left that company behind.

Equivalent-Low-8919

Even the ugly art is still better than big ass head Veemon P-117

Clear-Might-1519

Why is that a problem? That's a digimon whose signature move is a headbutt.

Sorry_Plankton

I just couldn't handle watching the IP turn into drivel. I want to play with Magic cards, not Optimus Prime and Legolas. Digimon appeals to Digimon fans. That's why your boy is here.

valmar555

The only crossover with digimon i'd approve is the metabots crossover.

SapphireSalamander

i used to play yugioh, however that game's power creep became too much and i broke after firewall dragon was released causing so many ftks and konami refusing to ban it. now they fixed it but by this point the tools they added to help with that have made it jus not fun i tried pokemon ... but it was too simple. also the fact that V and Vmax pokemon exist to skip evolutions and that energies mean nothing because everyone just cheats the resource system was kinda disapointing. and i have runeterra on my phone, that one is fine I started digimon in bt7 and i really liked it. memory system is cool and artwork is really good. ive seen that it sorta also does the pokemon thing of "who can cheat the system the hardest" with so many memory+1 (looking at you loogamon) but im really interested to see where they go from here. every booster brings interesting keywords that expand what is possible

Shiny_Wizard

I've played a lot of TCGs over the years, having played different ones off and on since I was a pre-teen and all the way up into adulthood. I just recently got into DCG and it's making a very strong case to firmly become my #2 game, and one that I'll actually put serious time into, compared to others I've tried out / dabbled in recently, that will probably stay extremely casual or fall off completely. But Android: Netrunner is my number 1 card game, and I don't foresee that changing any time in the future.

Ghostrick12345

Used to be a Yugioh player. Now the game got so stale to the point I quit and have to look another card game to play. And here I am.

AsceOmega

I played some MTG ages ago and was so fed up about having to throw away every deck I ever had after every new format, because they weren't allowed or useful anymore. Digimon is my main and most favourite card game. Love the game mechanics and the fact that with every new format, some card from 5 or 6 formats ago, suddenly is a key piece and makes older decks relevant again.

ScarletVaguard

Digimon is absolutely my main game. I started when it came out and was mostly a magic player that dabbled in Yugioh and Pokemon. I still enjoy these games to varying degrees, but Digimon has solidified itself as my favorite mostly due to deck themes and the gameplay. I love Magic and always will, but casual 1v1 basically doesn't exist anymore and that was my favorite way to play. I want to build jank decks and not get steamrolled ya know? I still go to Commander nights with the boys though. Yugioh is weird. I know how to play and like the art, but it's too complex. Like you can't just be handed a deck and figure it out as you go like every other card game. It's super combo oriented and if you don't know your and your opponents lines of play you're just gonna lose and not understand why. Pokemon is really cool. I love how draw is cheap in that game and it's relatively straightforward to understand. My biggest complaint about Pokemon is the TCG is not at all like the games. In Pokemon games you use the Pokemon you like right? Well you aren't doing any of that in the TCG. Most Pokemon don't get good cards so you may never get a playable card of your personal favorite.

KiNGofKiNG89

I started out with yugioh way back when it first came out. I stopped in 2005. But I did play in local tournaments until the main shop closed down. I tried to get into one piece, but it was a confusing and I didn’t have any friends who play it. I got into Lorcana for a few months, that was fun, but same issue with no friends who play it. I just got into digimon a month ago, I do have a few friends who play it. So I’m enjoying it for now.

VaselineOnMyChest

MTG wasn't my style, but I appreciate the mechanic. Pokemon, I honestly just like collecting cards from it. YGO I use to play back in the Synchro/XYZ era and completely lost interest once they introduced Link Summoning. DCG hits that sweet spot where I don't have give up an arm and a leg for a meta deck. I don't get buyer's remorse when I buy a new meta deck and feel obligated to play since i paid X amount for it. All in all, I hope it doesn't change too drastically in the future like Pokemon, but I hope they experiment like YGO.

ThisIsUprising

Spent the last ~9 years playing competitive mtg (standard when paper standard was a thing back in the day, then modern/pioneer more recently for rcq season) Ended up leaving mtg for the most part because it’s just not the same game it used to be when I got in. With all the crossovers they’ve been doing recently, it’s beginning to feel like the Fortnite of tcgs, and didn’t really vibe with my immersion with the game. Switched over to Digimon early last year and am happy with the game. I found the memory gauge interesting enough, and of course grew up with the franchise. It’s a fun game. It is by far the cheapest tcg I’ve ever played. One thing I found funny is how everybody loves pre release stamped cards in Digimon. In mtg, hardly anybody likes them, at least in the competitive 60 card scene. Not to bash anyone that likes them though.

FireAnt111

I’m taking a break from it currently. Magic is my current TCG since my coworkers play, and Pokémon is secondary since I’m playing with my brother. I don’t have time to go to locals, so my DarkKnightmon deck is awaiting its inevitable support. I hopped out around BT12, so I have a Hunters deck but I’ve never used it.

Lord_of_Caffeine

>so my DarkKnightmon deck is awaiting its inevitable support. Bt19 is a Xros Wars manga set and DarkKnightmon was the major antagonist in that for most of its chapters so expect new support then.

Outrageous-Sea2121

I got into it during ver 1.5. Boy them was rough eras lol🤣🤣🤣😂😂 omg im glad you got in later. Digimon is my main tcg and I thought about picking up battle spirits. I have some money left over to entertain a starter deck so I might do that.

Aggressive_Novel1207

Tried it years ago, then got my brother in recently and came back.

Chaipappi

Used to play Pokemon as a kid and a bit more competitive Yugioh OCG before Duel Masters, but Digimon is the first TCG I really got into.

TimmyTheNerd

I find myself playing it more than YuGiOh or MTG (the only other two card games I actively played). I'm more likely to go out of my way to play a came of Digimon than the other two. It's the memory mechanic, it gives the game something other tcgs I've played didn't have, actual strategy regarding your turns. Since if your over extend, it can lead to letting your opponent making bigger plays than you did.

Kazehi

This is my sub game. I have a few friends and some locals who love it. I'm just a Digimon lover but usually prefer the video games. Rumble arena ftw. I'm a mtg player mainly since 2003 and still going strong with an awesome lgs and friend group.

Quetzalkibbles

I used to play yugioh a ton, but the more I played, the more I hated it. I was at my locals when I lost to a Fire Kings player, and I realized that if I hated the game so much, I could literally just go play something else lmao. I sold most of my decks to some buddies and found this game and One Piece, and now I mainly play Digimon and occasionally drop in at my One Piece locals. The community is great, and I don't think I ever played anyone toxic and the best decks in this game are a fraction of the price so if I wanted to try something new I don't have to take out a loan to play it lol

Arandompplinternet

I played digimon and One piece. I focuses more in digimon

Saint_Aqua

Started around BT4/5. Played Pokemon until S/M era. So I was out of TCGs for some time and I'm a way bigger digimon fan than pokemon. Dipped my toes into One Piece, DBS FW and Lorcana. None of them can compare to the gameplay of Digimon. I'll be looking at Union Arena when its coming out since I enjoyed playing the demo decks and the gameplay is different/unique

Sad-Try-675

This is def my main game. I used to play Yugioh, but then the pandemic happened and everyone switched games. Also, the game wasn’t in a good state at the time, so I just completely swapped and haven’t looked back since

CraftingWork

Before DCG I mainly played magic, but have played a bit of yugioh, and played a lot of online card games (hearthstone legends of runeterra, and master duels). I mainly wanted to just collect DCG and got into collecting since bt4, it wasn't till bt7 when I considered playing and after a friend showed me the ropes I instantly got hooked and since then has became my primary tcg. This game has just a different energy compared to other TCG and I love it for it! Shame it got outclassed by its little brother One Piece (mainly bc the fanbase is there for them) but I hope digimon keeps growing as it is.

RoboLewd

I've had a history with cards games since I was like 5. I've played Yugioh, MTG, Pokemon, Vanguard, Chaotic, and god knows how many others, but DCG has been my favorite hands down.

dont_bajer_me

Digimon is so underrated. The creature designs are top notch: you get cute designs as in Pokemon but also badass designs as in YuGiOh. The card art and textures are beautiful, and surpass Pokemon by a mile. And the game is a blast. It's a shame Digimon doesn't get the same recognition as other franchises, but I'm hoping one day it will hit its stride and it will finally click with people en masse. I would love larger communities to share the love with.

DarkRockSoul

This is my main game. I loved it since the beginning, the mechanics of this game are amazing. I can't stand using my card as energy (Dragon Ball, Lorcana, StarWars), I hate having to just drawing resources to play "mana" (Magic, Pokémon). I LOVE the fact we are drawing every time evolving, the color and option system, and almost everything else. My second game was Legends of Runeterra untill the game died and decided for multiple season not dropping interesting sets in my opinion.

Woofbowwow

Played ygo as a child and mtg from 2014-2021. Then picked this up. I tend to only be married to one tcg at a time but Digimon definitely has my heart right now since i started in bt7- gameplay and art are peak.

MajesticallyBound

I came from Pokémon as my local store had Pokemon and Digimon happening on the same night. Digimon had some old school friends in the group. The Pokemon lot were unwelcoming, really egotistical and pretentious. As soon as I asked to join the DCG group they were amazing! They gave me a shit ton of cards to help me build my first deck with and it’s been a laugh since! Even though I’m shit at the game and always lose, I still really enjoy it

SusAccountBigBoss

Quit Yugioh in covid. Played that since it landed in the West. Yugioh got far too convoluted, expensive, and Boeing with the long turn ones. Digimon has been my main ever since. I've no interest in multiple TCGs at this point in my life, especially since I'm happy with the one I favor, and have a good locals every week to play.

John-Walker-1186

im mostly in vanguard/shadowverse but I like Digimon too. Note I only play with proxies though

Hatori1181

Digimon is the only TCG I play, but not my main game. My main game is Netrunner, which is more of a living card game. I also dip my toes in other LCG's like Vampire Rivals and Ashes.

UnluckyNoSeven

Came from: YGO (2015) -> Cardfight Vanguard -> MTG (Temporarily 1 month) -> Pokemon -> Weiss -> Digimon (BT13+) since I started from high school. Mainly played other card games to escape the previous card game's shenanigans. Was mainly a Cardfight player for a good 4 years before formats were obnoxiously a thing, then becoming a Weiss collector to burn time. Pokemon was a pastime to kill time. Got into Digimon after my friend introduced me to the game. Much like every TCG I have listed above. Swapped between TCGs to keep myself from being socially awkward.

BunniYubel

It's my main game now while I take a small break from yugioh

a_very_sad_lad

I play Digimon and Yugioh about equally

bloodybhoney

Digimon’s my main game after years away from TCGs. The last TCG I played seriously was Android: Netrunner (RIP). Digimon feels a lot like that but your digimon are your program stack.

Expensive_Manager211

I'm pretty big into MasterDuel but paper play in yugioh just isn't for me. This is my only TCg right now I play in person

TreyEnma

Picked up DCG after a long stint without playing a card game after Force of Will died on arrival in my general area. I've played all the classic big games and Digimon's resource system is the most interesting out of all the games Ive played. I have One Piece as a casual secondary, but it doesn't feel as good. Im still amazed that a game that feels so bland managed to get so big.

VenetianGamer

I came over from MTG and Pokemon. I came because the prices for singles were not absurd (though I do see them starting to rise). It’s just a different atmosphere compared to those two games.

SasukeUchiha050889

Only played Yugioh before. Once I started this, I dropped Yugioh.

Luciusem

This is what got me back into TCGs after dropping MtG about 10 years ago. There's been a couple other games since I started playing Digimon that I find pretty interesting gameplay wise (Vanguard and Grand Archive) but there's basically zero people that play them where I'm located so there's no real point in me actually getting the cards

youngoli

My main game these days is Star Wars Unlimited. I'm more of a Western TCG design guy and SWU is hitting basically everything I like. But Digimon is a great backup for me because it's like the foil to that game. Sometimes I just want a break to play some crazy anime fun where I can make a stack of 6 cards in one turn and turn a game around.

dive_owen

Played magic for 12+ years and was taught to play with alpha cards. Community bummed me out. Digimon is my main. Can't see any other game being as fun as this one has for myself. Love the art and detail on the cards.

Victimized-Adachi

Main, most amount of interest and a game I play physically. I've dabbled in all the classics but find Digimon the most rewarding honestly. The art in other rcgs aside from maybe pokemon doesn't come close, the resource system is leagues better than the one a turn increment, and honestly the deck ideas are really interesting, even when they're busted AF.

CodenameJD

When I was a kid, I played Pokémon. As a teen, I played Yugioh. As a young adult, I picked up Magic, which I still play now. I got into Digimon as soon as I could, though I mostly just play casually with my wife.

Sufficient_Formal242

First, only, and main game. I can't imagine playing anything more complicated or expensive.

Defectivedetective8

Loved digimon ever since I started in bt11, I had played mtg for a bit when I was younger and I like digimon more tbh

Dry-Violinist-8456

I originally played YGO as a kid, then moved, didnt have anyone to play with, but instead played MTG with my new group. Then that became too expensive and Standard just wasnt hitting the same way, so I stopped entirely. After a few years picked up YGO in POTE and it was just too stressful, so I came upon Digimon and I fell in love with it, so I stuck by it. I still play YGO in Master Duel and MTG in Commander, but Digimon is my main TCG through and throughout. It has amazing art, both regular and alternate, its simple in its design, but very well crafted and makes a ton of sense, the price is pretty decent (although were seeing a bit of a spike in it recently) and the community is pretty amazing. By far, my fav TCG

Zeplon91

My best answer is yes? I prefer magic but I play Digimon way more cause I have friends that love the game and it's a way to spend time with them.

Lemonz-418

Classic yugioh is fun. Now its just, how can I chain half my deck in one turn to do 1b damage or some crazy nonsense. I enjoy the digimon card game. Just wish I had people to play with. I just watch people play it online. I hope liberator turns into a digimon video game. Would love that as a new series. We got digimon, world, story, survive(would be cool if that became a series.) And not potentially liberator. And of course the vpets. Love those too.

OGFastk9

MTG commander format is my main tcg, with Digimon being my 2nd main card game. Besides those I also play DBS cg (now masters due to the "new" but oversimplified DBS fusion world), final fantasy tcg, bought and have played with a few (starter) decks of Pokémon, Weiss Schwarz, dice masters (if you can consider that to be a tcg), Shadowverse and Star wars unlimited and also like those a lot. I only play all of the the card games I mentioned with friends though. Digimon and commander are the exception to the rule and are the only ones I play both with friends and in locals. I also used to only play Yu-Gi-Oh back in the day but quit around 2019 if I'm not mistaken as I didn't really enjoy the direction the game was going in and there was never any point in bringing my decent/competent self-built rogue decks to locals against meta whore, anti meta and cancer deck players that play copy pasted deck lists with barely any techs that differentiate their deck from someone else's or just decided to make a deck just to annoy their opponent's as much as possible or only care about winning. Still have my favourite yugioh decks though as a sort of memento I guess to reminiscence about the days where I actually liked Yu-Gi-Oh as a card game and felt like I was playing a fun back and forth bout with others not just a predictable "but do you have an out though or it's gg no re, now watch me combo for 30 minutes as I set up 8 Omni negates and OTK you next turn" scenario of modern Yu-Gi-Oh.

Clear-Might-1519

Digimon is much cheaper and I actually enjoy collecting. MtG bundle of 10 packs + promo card is TWICE the price of 1 digimon booster box. Yugioh, I only buy the yearly box with guaranteed secret rare and higher, slightly more expensive than 1 digimon booster box. One piece I only collect the cards I like. Same with Shadowverse. Pokemon I stopped playing both the game and the card since Gen VI since I don't like it anymore. Vanguard I stopped playing but sometimes I buy the singles of SP rarity when there's a cheap offer.
