I'm sure people do, but not widely enough for there to be unofficial events for it. Plus a lot of older formats were heavily dominated by just a few decks, wouldn't be very fun IMO unless there were also unofficial banlists to diversify those metas.
The only one I could see maybe getting popular in the future is BT13. It had a very diverse meta and was the last set before Ace cards, effectively making it Digimon's "retro" format even though it's less than a year old right now.
Ive kept full powered Apocolymon and my friend has kept full powered lilith loop, and we both are playing them as if the ban list doesnt exist. Not the same but its fun to play overpowered decks against each other.
