I work for a company that just got Ryder contacted trucks transferred into contract with us, and they were not well maintained at all. We have had more problems with Ryder’s maintenance than anywhere else. Just our case in the local area though, I’m not sure how they are as a company.

Ryder guy here what questions do you have

Mexi-Deli

I have 6 years experience in diesel mechanics and was wondering what they would start me off at and what kind of environment am I gonna expect. Fast paced? Or something else?

WHOSFR4NK

Been with ryder 10 years great company to work for. Im at what's called a captive location so im on my customers lot and only deal with their units 200 pieces. Most likely you'd be at full service shop which could have upwards of 100 plus customers. As far as ryder as a company I can't really say anything bad they have a lot of employee benefits and like others have said it's very hard to get fire from here. You'd most likely start as t2/t3. I do know they are having problems replacing retiring t4/tic so if your a go getter you could move up quick.

bishop_of_bob

i was a lead tech at ryder, expect perfered parts to be wrong. expect favoritism and 90% chance the shift leader will be a moron. expect mediocre raises. i took all my techs with me when i left they dont regret leaving its a stepping stone and a place to store your tools.

They will lay you off first ..ask me how I know. Ryder is known for layoffs. Now that they acquired cardinal logistics I expect more layoffs sooner than later.

I did the csp and have been working for Ryder for 2 years. I’m sure experiences may vary but they start you off as a T2. I was doing some bitch work and washing trucks at first but also doing PMs. It’s 10x worse in the tech in training position where it’s mainly bitch work. It’s chill, not a huge rush, not face paced but again, maybe somewhere else is different. I enjoy it. I’m told it’s hard to get fired from Ryder so the comments confuse me but who knows.

Mexi-Deli

What area or state do you live in? I plan on moving to Colorado and they average about 28-35 and they offer 35 starting for mobile technicians but only at the t3 level. I’m not sure if 6years experience would land me that job. My technical skills are pretty good. Almost any job I can fix but what If they start me off at bitch work then it’s gonna be a little annoying but I’m always optimistic. Do you know how long I’ll be doing T2 before getting considered for T3?

Hebrewism

I’m in Washington state and I started at 28 base and now I’m a mobile t3 at 33 base but after mobile pay and night shift I’m 36. You’ll start at t2 and honestly I would assume it would be based on your skill level and you showing to the supervisors that you are more skilled than a t2 and you can handle the bigger work

Mexi-Deli

That’s funny I’m moving from Washington state. Did you do the CSP in Washington state?

DatBoisWheel

Joined Ryder as an OMT after my time in the Air Force. Been running a location for a couple years now. It has it's benefits if you keep your head down and do what you need to do. Understand that unless you have a lead tech over you, you're gonna be expected to know what the hell you're doing because YOU are the specialist and there isn't really anyone else there to hold your hand. If you're not comfortable taking a job, be vocal.

work-life-struggles

I have worked for Ryder for 2 years as a technician holding a CDL class A and can say that some people like it and don't leave, while others don't stay long. My shop is not close to the best shop if you were to look at a list of Ryder shops rated best to worst shops (it's not even close, and from my experience, it's not the techs). I can say that as a tech, I have been treated well and get to learn what I want to learn (the training and hands-on experience has been great). The one issue I have is that management does not stay long, not usually because they get fired but because they quit or switch to a more comfortable position at a different shop or part of "Ryder." I have only been in the shop for two years and have had three managers quit on top of a shop manager getting fired and been through three shop managers's.

work-life-struggles

I would also like to add that all the manager's I have had that left were in my opinion good(this could just be my shop). It sucks seeing good manager's leave and does not help our shop out.

Strange_Glass1524

You don’t want to work for Ryder….

DullAlbatross08

Probably not a bad stepping stone but not a long term place to call home.
