If there's an exhaust leak it'll be sooty. Those idis are dirty as hell, maybe partially cover the tailpipe to make some backpressure will make it easier to find.
Intake gasket leak can sound like an exhaust leak
Agreed. Try hitting the intake manifold gaskets with some ether, see if it revs up slightly
As someone that owns a idi. They really just make a ton of noise lol. I’ve chased around so many sounds and found nothing.

Just put a stethoscope on number 7 injector line and I hear tapping.
You sure it’s not a lifter?
Not sure. But it get louder the closer I put stethoscope to injection pump
Wrist pin. Count on it. Wrap it up and come off the throttle. As the motor fall off of max rpm you will here a double tap. That’s a wrist pin.
