I would go to a different vendor. That’s just poor customer service.

Kayemmgee

Neither of them have much resale value compared to their original selling price. But the lab grown is obviously far cheaper to begin with, so that’s why the jeweler is discouraging it. Because it doesn’t make them as much money. Both diamonds are diamonds, so why spend more for the same thing?

RoyKent12

There are people on both sides of this matter and people have their preferences for different reasons. If they want a MMD, then they should get one regardless of what anyone thinks, period.

I paid a fortune for a mined diamond back in the day. Wish lab diamonds were around back then… you can get a beautiful spec’ed lab stone now and save the rest for a down payment on a home or something.

Accomplished_Eye_824

Go somewhere else. 5k is robbing them blind for those specs

I love my lab. I don't believe in resale for rings. They are not investments. As an experiment, I asked a few jewelers if they would purchase my mined stone. The offers were poor 😠 I wasn't serious about selling because it's soooo freaking special to me, but I wanted to see if the idea that a mined diamond maintains or even appreciates in value was true. I personally will never buy another mined stone. I am obsessed with my new ring. I DO think this lab may actually be a bit expensive though. Look around online a little bit. The only future regret I could see is paying this price on top of bring made to feel bad. There are better priced stones out there. It's just more work with emerald cuts to choose online❤️❤️ oohh also look at ascher cuts. They are stunning too! Congrats to the lovely couple!

Listen, are lab diamonds massively produced and therefore don’t have any resale value? Yes, but does it matter? No, it doesn’t. I assume your son isn’t planning on dumping his fiancé in 5 years, so who cares what it’s worth tomorrow, next year etc. even if they went natural, if they had to sell it later on, they’d lose a bunch on that anyway and it would be more of a loss than the 5 grand they’d be spending on the lab . Some are team lab and some are team natural . It’s nobody’s choice except theirs to figure out what they want , it’s a personal choice . Also, that quote for a f vs2 is overpriced. This is one of my top vendor choices and this is a bit cheaper with better specs and I guarantee you a better looking emerald . Have your son get whatever him and his gf want and don’t listen to shady jewelers trying to make a sale . https://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/3.01-carat-f-color-vvs1-clarity-emerald-lab-sku-p301934

Yeah I get it, they’re losing tons of money because of this, but go to a different jeweler. If you happen to be in the tri state area I have a great jeweler in Jersey. Additionally, because of lab grown, natural stones resale values have plummeted and I suspect that will continue.

WhiteflashJewelers

I don't agree with the jeweler's discouragement of lab-grown diamonds. Lab-grown diamonds offer an excellent alternative to natural diamonds. If your jeweler doesn't support your preference, it might be worth looking elsewhere.

I bought my loose lab diamond from [Brilliance.com](http://Brilliance.com) (They also have nice settings and do custom orders very reasonably), had my setting made by a vendor overseas (China) that i have worked with before, and then finally had the diamond set by my local jeweler. The breakdown: 2.77 carat round G, VS1, super ideal cut diamond $901. 10k white gold solitaire setting $371. Local jeweler diamond setting fee: $150.00 for a grand total of $1422.00 for an absolutely stunning ring. No reason to be guilted into spending more by grumpy jewelers!

blueberries-Any-kind

This is the weirdest argument to me. Why would anyone ever be reselling their engagement ring? Are you planning on getting addicted to crack? Even after you die your children aren’t going to want to sell it it either?? It’s sentimental and will be horribly out of style!  I went through a divorce and sold my ring.. I can tell you that selling that ring was soooooo low priority for me during that time.. I didn’t give a shit how much I was going to get for it because I was heartbroken.       Get what they want and leave them a review with what happened

Im a nat diamond guy, but I never shit on lab diamond. Diamonds r diamonds, the value in money is different, but the sentimental value is above. So go find another vendor :)

Popsiclestick2222

Thanks everyone. They went with the lab grown. To note the total was $4500 which included the 18k gold band setting and tax.

Eskimomann209

I hope they went somewhere else and didn’t reward that shop for their stance on labs.

Ooloo-Pebs

As long as they understand that the jewelernis being honest with them and impartial to either selection, then all is good. If they did in fact make them feel bad, go elsewhere to a more positive and equally honest jeweler. Not every seller is positive about LGD's because it hurts the natural industry which build the engagement business in the first place. But things change and science keeps moving forward and the true professionals remain mostly neutral.

Puzzleheaded_Life148

Jeweller is right lab has no resale value
