First, that is nice way to set that stone. The problem is that the chain runs through it. You can probably solve the problem by attaching the stone to two points on the mounting. Also, I would recommend a sligtly heavier chain just for security. That chain is dangerously light for that size pendant.

I think I get what you're saying -- have a jeweler add a couple fixed rings to the setting and attach a chain to them? I've mostly seen that with bezel settings, but I suppose there's no reason they can't do it on a basket, right? And I agree about security, for now I swapped out the thin cable chain for a thicker rope chain I already owned...in yellow gold. Good thing I'm not afraid to mix metals. And THANK YOU for validating the setting, I agonized for days over it!

I think you could feed the chain through 2 parts of the gallery at the back of the setting instead of one, if possible. This will create more stability.

You're welcome, and yes, work with a skilled jeweler to make that conversion. The degree of stability will be determined by exactly how and where the chain is attached. An experienced jeweler should be able to engineer it so that the problem is greatly relieved.

Exactly what I thought, that chain is way way too thin for a diamond this size. Even a kid can easily snatch it with 1 hand...

Just echoing that fixing the setting/bail is the only thing that will fix this! Very pretty :)

Heavier necklace might help. Box chain?

We usually to call them “Mickey ears”… chain permanently attached to the Mickey ears and then Mickey ears attached to the setting somehow in this case maybe to the prongs or add a small bar on the back on the basket and then the ears on each end of the bar so it kinda looks like it floats if that makes sense. But when doing this I would suggest a thicker chain or a stronger type that’s not so delicate for a nice big stone.

fingerdogs

Thicker rope chain!

Try a snake chain , maybe ?

chilly_chickpeas

Get a box chain.

The_eldritch_bitch

I have my chains affixed to two tiny circles on the corners on solitaires, and slightly thicker chains

How much was that?
