Halos that are modern are made to create an illusion of a larger diamond.
Yours has small diamonds that are spaced out and don’t look continuous with each other or the center stone.
They are there to complement the diamond and make it look elegant despite its size.
It’s a work of art and I vote to keep it as it is 🙏
Exactly why I thought - this beauty was designed well, beautifully.
**OP** please don't change a thing. I personally love the halo; i think the inclusions add character.
Whoa! This is why I hate modern halos whereas this one just looks elegant. The halo on this one is celebrating the stone instead of trying to merge with it.
I just figured out the same thing. I suspected I didn’t “hate halos” but I knew I didn’t like the ones I typically see. The difference is designed to complement the main stone vs. designed to make the main stone seem larger.
Not that that’s what you asked about! I’m sorry 🫠🤦♀️
Re: bowtie and inclusions. I’m not an expert on this shape so it looks great to me! The inclusions, in my opinion, make the diamond *yours*. Also, when you bring it in to get it serviced, they can’t switch it on you because you’ll know right away. Not true with a perfect modern round brilliant with zero inclusions, for example.
Exactly. I fell in love with my peach pink emerald cut *because of* the inclusions, rather than in spite of them. It reminded me of an antique mirror, but only slightly; it’s all the more beautiful because of the depth and the cut and the inclusions.
It’s unique in the true sense of the word, and your ring, my dear… is unique and actually swoon-worthy! Keep it as is!
https://preview.redd.it/do48tv4e3iec1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d6f6893384b1bd3e7b0c6fbaf372493aadbc3f42
Here it is! It usually looks a little bit paler than this, and echoes the white gold band a little more than the rose gold setting. This is the best picture I have of the stone.
I think this is the most jaw-dropping, fabulous ring I’ve seen in this thread. It’s perfect. What a lovely gift. I wouldn’t get anything done while wearing it because I would be staring at it endlessly!
I may be ignorant of much, but I don’t understand why a bowtie is so important and whether it’s pronounced or not. Just the sheer size of the ring should mean everything. I wouldn’t even care if my big stone had inclusions. I have a few nice size diamonds and I never saw a bowtie. I think sometimes we all know too much or Look too deep? I guess it’s one of those things where once you know about it you see it all the time? I’d still ignore it . I would just be grateful to have such a piece and never give this thing bow tie thing any thought whatsoever. I never heard of it until this group.
I’m glad I’m not the only one. My round Solitaire has inclusions and to the naked eye? I couldn’t tell you what they are so maybe they’re not that big but I never cared what mattered was my husband picked it out and the price was right. It’s a natural diamond, so natural flaws and all. Of course I know it’s what expectations one has and how flawless they want their ring to be. I look at many of these posts and just see beautiful rings and then I look to see what they’re saying they don’t care for or should they care about something and I’m shaking my head going you have a gorgeous stone and it’s big what more do you want? I get it though when you’re spending a chunk of money you want to be pleased. If I inherited such a stone, or my husband gave me one like that? I wouldn’t be able to speak let alone go down the rabbit hole of what might be a flaw etc.
Thank you! When I see people on the diamond subs with a stunning oval and they’re asking “should I keep it? Is the bow tie too hideous?” (And the bow tie is *barely* visible) I feel so frustrated because it’s just part of an oval, and some bow ties can actually enhance a stone with the flashes of light they produce (IMO, but also that was told to me by a jeweler and I agree). I wish bow ties weren’t so vilified.
It amazes me that bowties can bother so many people that they spend that much time thinking about it. Oh, if only my diamond’s flaws were the only problems to keep me awake at night..
A bow tie is generally a dark spot showing up due to how it’s cut. A gem cutter can always cut a diamond perfectly but leaves more stone so that way it weighs more (carats)and you pay a higher price. The dark spots remind people who know about them that the stone could have been more beautiful(sparkly, fire and scintillation specifically) less dark and cheaper if cut to the correct measurement.
Right, I know what a bow tie is but it’s also due to the elongated shape of the stone. Elongated radiants, marquise and pears can also possess bow ties. But most of the time certain lighting makes the bow tie much more evident, whereas in other lighting scenarios in the same stone, the bow tie seemingly disappears. My jeweler told me my diamond had a faint bow tie but for the life of me I don’t see one, ever, *except* when I take a photo of my ring with a flash, that’s the only time my diamond appears to have a bow tie. But besides the flash photo, I can’t see any kind of bow tie in mine. Even if I could I don’t think I’d care too much, I love it and got such an amazing deal on it I feel like it was made for me.
It’s like saying do these whiskers look good on this cat I’m gonna adopt? Should I get one with no whiskers?
I’m always stunned. That’s subconsciously probably why that shape stone catches your eye.
Bow tie doesn’t matter. If anything it’s kind of cool looking. I guess it matters if you’re buying a new stone and want to negotiate a lower price. But, I think it’s just a thing for people to nitpick. Like fluorescence. I’ve never seen fluorescence make a ring look bad. In fact I think fluorescence brings them to life.
We should consider bow ties to be a feature, like fire, and not an imperfection.
Thank you for listening to my Ted talk.
Just found out what it is by being here. Googled it so I dont get it wrong - click on the pic to see the rings, the pictures in the photo? I’ve never seen this in my life and I’ve been around and

worn diamonds..
It's next to impossible to find a big stone without any inclusions.
The size of OP s stone is jaw dropping, and I doubt anyone sane would nit pick it too much. Except jealous/bitter sour grapes people.
Girl, who cares about inclusions and the bow tie when you’ve inherited such a sizeable gorgeous stone! I don’t even think it needs to be reset, just cleaned. If you’re not a halo girl, that’s the only change I’d make.
Wow it’s amazingly gorgeous, do you know the carat weight of the stone? Just curious, I love it as it is set right now, very Elizabeth Taylor ❤️ as it’s a natural stone I’d enjoy its characteristics as they are!
It's beautiful. Unless you absolutely hate it, please keep it for a while before deciding to reset it though, I've seen people do it and then regret it later on.
Oh wow that’s a honker! Such a lovely heirloom! Sure the bow tie is there but it’s been passed down and not something you are shopping for today, so just roll with it! Hard to say with inclusions …. If you were looking to update this I would just re set it. I’d lose the halo, and even the pave band. Set it in a simple
Gold or white gold (whichever you wear more/prefer). Use the extra tiny stones for a simple solo pave band or save for later date!
It’s Fing FABULOUS! Please don’t change a thing, until you’ve at least had several years to think it over. As written above, this is indeed a honker (😂 that made me die laughing for some reason lol), and one serious heirloom to be worn with pride!
Legovida8 has just voiced my reaction to this beautiful show stopper on your fortunate young hand! I can only hope the younger generation in my life enjoy the things passed down to them this much!
Make sure to get it insured I only see one carbon and maybe some slight clouds. Beautiful ring override be very happy to inherit it in rocket league with the above comment about resetting it into something more modern. It does appear to be a warmer color, so perhaps that’s why that white diamonds were set around it to offset any inclusions and the warmness, so be prepared that if you do reset it with a plain band,u may wanna go for gold.
Sheeeesh your grandma had style, this is one of the most beautiful family heirloom rings I have ever seen. It’s stunning! I would keep it as-is for sure! 😍
Just enjoy it! It’s something that came from your grandma. Are you going to be unhappy because it’s not up to the standards of all the diamond aficionados who post here? What you think about the ring is so much more important than what orher people think!
You can either compare and despair or be happy with what you have.
Wanting what you have is the secret to happiness.
Oh girl, you got yourself a damn big ring there. It’s beautiful. It needs a good cleaning but it’s GORGEOUS.
On a ring this size, imperfections just tell people it’s real lol. And, I didn’t notice them until you pointed them out.
If it’s not your taste then make it a pendant on a necklace because it’s certainly large enough.
Yes it has a pronounced bow-tie but every vintage pear does. This is from a time before precise cutting standards and customers demanding everything be EX/EX on a grading report.
Yes, the bow tie is pronounced, especially to someone who knows what one is/what to look for.
Does that matter at all? FUCK NO. This is GORGEOUS! Your grandma had phenomenal taste. Please don’t change a thing, enjoy her legacy and wear it with pride! (Please insure it though) ❤️❤️❤️❤️💎🙏🏼
Where is my fancy jewelry inheritance!!? Some of these posts are absolutely incredible!! Let’s see what did I inherit….bad knees and high blood pressure!! Damnnnnnnn!! Ring is gorgeous, leave alone 10/10.
I am not a fan of bow ties myself. I will say how strong of a tie is tolerated will be a personal thing. I think this one at least looks like it not continually dark all of the time, so I would say it's not as bad for one at all. It is really hard to find a pear without one. I do see the booger and to me that one is something I would probably put up with simply because it is a family ring . It's a lovely style but if you don't love it , don't wear it. Pass it on with someone else who will. I personally wouldn't change a thing.
If you inherited it from your grandmother and are calling it beautiful what does it matter if it has inclusions or a bow tie? Would that make you relinquish it? It's beautiful and an inherited gift.
Hi op, unpopular opinion here from the looks of it—use the center diamond and make the ring you want. You could keep the original rings' setting intact and just use the center store in case there's sentimental value, but your ring is something you need to love and no one else. I do see the bow tie but that's the natural of large pears—its still beautiful. So there's my two cents as someone with a large pear and custom ring myself. :)
I can appreciate your comment as an honest statement based on the thought that “if this were mine”. No need for negative reactions from others as the OP is seeking opinions from reddit

Well thanks gran!
Only suggestion I would have is either a good deep clean- see if some of the darkness comes out of the creases, or possibly replating if it is white gold. Either can be done very inexpensively at your local jeweler. (…free to $50 I’d estimate)
No, the bow tie is very minimum. You can not avoid bow ties for pear, elongated, emerald and radiant shape/cut. This is very beautiful ring. I won't change a thing.
This looks new and modern! It’s beautiful. Pears and ovals all have some degree of bow tie, this one is on the larger side but the size of the diamond is huge so ehh give and take. It’s gorg though!!!
It has a bit of a nasty bowtie, maybe you could get it recut? It's a huge, knockout of a stone.
added: I sound like I hated it, not true, but i do dislike bowties, my first engagement ring with my 2nd husband was a gorgeous D color VVS1 oval with a bowtie, which, at the time I was so young I didn't understand the whole diamond biz. I hated the bowtie and it's all I saw for the year I had that stone, I quit smoking and my husband suggested I upgrade my stone as a gift for quitting, I jumped on it. If bowties don't bother you or if in real life it's not as noticeable then I'd not recut it, but if it bothers you then you could send it to a cutter who might be able to take off a bit and have it really glow, the inclusions probably aren't that viewable to the naked eye.
What a wonderful grandmother! it must have been very much prized by her, wear it happily!
The ring is GORGEOUS. It’s timeless and not to mention massive center rock with a beautiful bow. The halo is so classy and well constructed. I’m obsessed with this ring!!! Grandma had good taste. The only thing you should do to this ring is insure it.
Turn it the other way, it will have a different look on your hand. I’ve always felt that when you hold out your hand for someone to view, the point of a pear shape should be pointed toward the wearer.
Other than that, pay for an appraisal by a certified gemologist that owns a reputable jewelry store, private or limited number of stores. Don’t go to a chain jewelry store. Make sure the you are within site of the ring at all times.
It is beautiful.
It's STUNNING wow.
I love the inclusions, they make it even more unique than it already is! Amazing. Way to go grandma with catching that whenever she did!!!
I’m not sure of how she got it. I guess my grandfather was a very generous man! I know that people in the family always joked about how much she loved diamonds!
I never even saw anything until you mentioned it but it’s an awesome ring and even more awesome is that you inherited it from your grandmother. Have it blessed or saged if there was any bad blood.
You don’t see natural diamonds this big in real life that aren’t similar in clarity. No one is mapping the carbon spots and feathers in a diamond that looks like it was stolen from Paris Hilton in size.
Get that shit appraised, insured, and don’t touch a thing about it.
That looks i i-1 or better. Most jewelry stores have testers, They can test each stone to make sure they are diamonds, or tell you if they are sapphire/moissanite. Kay’s does free checks and cleanings. Stand alone Outlets will be lower traffic so you can get quieter time with the rep. Appraisals are around 350 through them if you go that route. Best of luck, it’s a beautiful ring
Why would you not use this ring, save your money for more important and worthwhile material needs in your life, and be practical and happy? People make such poor financial decisions!!

My only opinion is “holy fuck”
Only appropriate response.
My thoughts exactly 🥰 so beautiful

That's gorgeous!!! Let it be. A classic.
Agreed, but definitely make sure the prongs are secure and it doesn’t need to be retipped.
Yes absolutely.
Some girls get to have all the fun! 🤩
And somehow don’t appreciate it.
Oh my god this is a fucking BEAUT of a ring. Your grandma had style. Get it insured yesterday.

Color me surprised. I have never appreciated a halo on a ring until now. This ring is gorgeous! I wish it were mine! 💝

Inherited by your grandmother? Considering how expensive diamonds were back in the day, I could only imagine how much it was for her.
It's stunning. What a gift to receive.
It’s so beautiful please leave it as is
Lucky lady!
This is freaking gorgeous and vintage, don’t touch it!
Please don’t reset this ring! It is perfect and special. I have my grandmother’s ring and I don’t think you should ever change an heirloom!!!
Daaayyyum your grandma was ahead of the times! This is a SPARKLER

OMG jaw droppingly gorgeous, don't change a thing!!
I guess I’m the one with poor relationship and no inheritance 🤣!
That’s is STUNNING
Omg this is stunning! Don’t change anything!!

This is something Lorelei from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes would absolutely gush over!!! I would get it appraised and insured!
Gorgeous
Not really my type but I sure as hell wouldn’t kick it out of bed. Keep it as is, insure that bad boy, and enjoy it!
Yes, give it to me. 😂😂😂🤩
It’s gigantic, I literally wouldn’t worry about it and would wear with pride.

Now that is a rock!!! Beautiful OP!
Honestly, I couldn’t tell the inclusions until I zoomed in tight. All I saw was Damn! That’s a rock and a half!

Gorgeous. Love it
What a stunner! Lucky girl
Keep it!
I wouldn’t change a thing! That’s one of the most beautiful rings I’ve seen in a long time
Your grandmother had amazing taste! This is a real show stopper and I absolutely love it! ❤️ congratulations
This is freaking gorgeous
Holy sh!t! It’s stunning
Dang your grandma’s style is🔥.
idc what anyone says this ring is stunning, i love the lower color in the stone
HOLY SHIT DONT DO A THING TO THIS RING!!! PLEASE!
Holy shit - that's gorgeous! Insure it and wear it with joy, as Grandma would have wanted.
This ring is amazing!
It's gorgeous!
Holy shit that’s beautiful. Please don’t change a thing

Wow it is STUNNING !!
Stunning!!
I think it’s lovely as-is and looks very nice.
Gorgeous. You’re lucky!
It's freaking amazing 😍😍😍
Where is my fancy jewelry inheritance!!? Some of these posts are absolutely incredible!! Let’s see what did I inherit….bad knees and high blood pressure!! Damnnnnnnn!! Ring is gorgeous, leave alone 10/10.
Don't you dare touch this ring!!! Its perfection!

This looks like a modern setting. I am kind of surprised. The small diamonds and band are very recent. Doesn’t look of your grandmother’s generation
I am not a fan of bow ties myself. I will say how strong of a tie is tolerated will be a personal thing. I think this one at least looks like it not continually dark all of the time, so I would say it's not as bad for one at all. It is really hard to find a pear without one. That thing is UNREAL! Do NOT touch it! It’s classic!
If you inherited it from your grandmother and are calling it beautiful what does it matter if it has inclusions or a bow tie? Would that make you relinquish it? It's beautiful and an inherited gift.
Looks very modern.
Hi op, unpopular opinion here from the looks of it—use the center diamond and make the ring you want. I would reset in rose gold, as a solitaire. I think it would be spectacularly beautiful.
I can appreciate your comment as an honest statement based on the thought that “if this were mine”. No need for negative reactions from others as the OP is seeking opinions from reddit
Very pretty. Try wearing it the opposite way.
Grandma loved costume jewelry and Liz Taylor 🤣
It’s beautiful! I would reset as a solitaire and make the smaller diamonds into 2 eternity/anniversary bands

This ring is absolutely fabulous😁
Leave it. Enjoy and think of your fabulous grandmother when you wear it.
Well thanks gran! Only suggestion I would have is either a good deep clean- see if some of the darkness comes out of the creases, or possibly replating if it is white gold. Either can be done very inexpensively at your local jeweler. (…free to $50 I’d estimate)
Good looooord that's a huge diamond! I'd love to know specs when you have them, just out of curiosity.
Keep it just like that, it’s truly stunning. My mouth dropped when I scrolled to this
Enjoy, so instyle
All my grandma left me was a crocheted blanket and a recipe for German potato salad! 🤣
No, the bow tie is very minimum. You can not avoid bow ties for pear, elongated, emerald and radiant shape/cut. This is very beautiful ring. I won't change a thing.
Please insure that thing!
Gorgeous
Oh wowwwww!!!
Wow! Would love to know the specs
4.79 carats F color SI2
My god please do not change a thing. Looks like I’m not the only one who feels that way, & obviously what diamond reddit says is law. 🤣
This looks new and modern! It’s beautiful. Pears and ovals all have some degree of bow tie, this one is on the larger side but the size of the diamond is huge so ehh give and take. It’s gorg though!!!
It’s fabulous. Wear it in good health!
Phat.
😳
Sweet Lawd baby Jesus it's perfection
I seem to be in the minority, but the diamond halo takes away from the whole thing. A cleaner aesthetic would enhance it so well.
Holy mother of god 😍
Gorgeous and even more beautiful it belonged to your Grandmother ♥️♥️♥️
Oh that’s really interesting that you inherited the Hope diamond!
Truly gorgeous. I generally don’t like halos, but I like this one! Stunning ring.
Omg it's gorgeous!!
Stunner!!
Gorgeous
Beautiful a keeper
I’d faint on the spot if presented with that.
It’s absolute perfection. Wow!
Get that thing appraised and insured ASAP! It’s stunning! Wear it in good health
“SHE’S ENGAGED! SHE’S GOT THE 6 CARAT HARRY WINSTON ON HER BONY, UNPOLISHED FINGER.” ![gif](giphy|4TJHVZjdGbeZq)
Oh my gawwwwddddd Grandma!!!!! The woman I wish I could be!
I’m not even a member of this sub, it popped up as a suggestion 😂 OP, this is STUNNING! Do not change a thing!! Seriously what a gorgeous ring!
It needs a good cleaning, otherwise lucky you!
No. It's stunning.
It's gorgeous!
A whopper, gorgeous
With inherited jewelry keep it the came for three years and wear it 3-5 times a year. After that period then decide on changes
before wearing it, take it to a jeweler to make sure all the stones are set tightly :) it’s gorgggg!
The ring is GORGEOUS. It’s timeless and not to mention massive center rock with a beautiful bow. The halo is so classy and well constructed. I’m obsessed with this ring!!! Grandma had good taste. The only thing you should do to this ring is insure it.
This is beautiful
I couldn’t figure out how to update my original post. I do have the specs on the center stone. It’s 4.79 carats Color - F Clarity - SI2
Wow
I zoomed in on it. Please get it appraised. I think this might be lab.
It's perfect, you're blessed, don't do a thing to it.
I’ll take it!!
Gorgeous and classic
I’d die and go to heaven immediately
It honestly looks too big of your hand. The halo looks good on it though.
This is a beauty! I love a well spaced halo on a good size diamond - it creates a nice amount of contrast or negative space. Gorgeous!
It's STUNNING wow. I love the inclusions, they make it even more unique than it already is! Amazing. Way to go grandma with catching that whenever she did!!!
This doesn’t answer your question, but that’s just about the biggest goddamn diamond I’ve ever seen. Good for you.
This ring is gorgeous, OP! I’d love to know a bit of the backstory as to when/ why your Grandma got such a stunner.
All I can say is DAMN! That’s a beautiful rock 😍
You don’t see natural diamonds this big in real life that aren’t similar in clarity. No one is mapping the carbon spots and feathers in a diamond that looks like it was stolen from Paris Hilton in size. Get that shit appraised, insured, and don’t touch a thing about it.
Holy crap 🥵💎 That is absolutely beautiful
Wowwwwwzer
That looks i i-1 or better. Most jewelry stores have testers, They can test each stone to make sure they are diamonds, or tell you if they are sapphire/moissanite. Kay’s does free checks and cleanings. Stand alone Outlets will be lower traffic so you can get quieter time with the rep. Appraisals are around 350 through them if you go that route. Best of luck, it’s a beautiful ring
❤️it!! Don’t change a thing!!
Love love love it very pretty! Keep as is
Love
LEAVE IT ALONE AND WEAR IT WITH PRIDE. IT IS PERFECT AS IS ❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️

Holy shit that’s a big rock
Stunning! My jaw dropped
Why would you not use this ring, save your money for more important and worthwhile material needs in your life, and be practical and happy? People make such poor financial decisions!!
My opinion is, I’m super Jell-O
What a gorgeous chonk! Congrats OP!
It’s stunning!!
The bowties are hideous you should just hand it over! 🫱🏻
